Sentiments of a Brother

I don't like myself for being such a bad brother to my sister. I guess I got used to it. But now that we're getting older and not anymore little kids, there is no reason to bicker like one. There's only the two of us and I guess there is no space for stupid conflicts.

Now that 2010 is looming, I fear of making the choice whether to pursue a career away from home or not. And every time I do something very bad, I immediately regret it. If I choose the faraway career, I'd be away from family for a long time. And this is what haunts me the most. Time is of the essence. I wish to spend every living moment in harmony with my family.

I hope I'd become a better person, a better brother, a better son, a better friend. There is so much to change. The remnants of my of old self still cling to me so tightly. I just wanna brush it off right here and now. I wanna be good.

I've thought about this blog. Poor blog. This may have been my first blog but I'm like leaving it to rot now. Ah just kidding. I just don't have anything to write in here now so I'm going to do this iPonder, iWonder thing. It's just like a culmination of thoughts, mostly random shit, written when I'm bored or I don't know. So here goes my first iPonder, iWonder thing.

Tumblr is a really cool place to hang out. Everyday.
There are a couple (a lot maybe) of annoying people on Tumblr I follow. Pfft. But me no hater. I don't unfollow too. Me no evil.
There are a few hot people on Tumblr. Muhahaha.
I have one Tumblr crush and I stalk that person's whereabouts and whatabouts and abouts abouts. Muhahaha again.
I miss Plurk but I'm thinking, I have no reasons to miss Plurk so uh...
I hate procrastination and it's clinging on my skin like crazy.
I don't like my build.
I'm broke. I'm not earning online anymore. I envy others out there. Rah rah. I'm broke. Me no money. No more new shirts.
Rah rah ah ah ah <-- Homo.
Glee is gonna die in mid-season because of damn AI. I guess it's a sign that I must finish studies first before I drag myself to kiddy stuff. But I will miss (maybe) the show.
We're not earning anything (just some few cents, round off, becomes nil) from Glee TV Guide. We may have a decent amount of traffic per day but I don't know. And I'm not sad about it though. Let my pride be fed more, traffic yo.
I almost bought an iPod Touch. But heck, I'd rather buy when I'm working.
I'm spending less and less time at school. I must spend more time there. At home I'm useless (to myself).
I've thought about this thing, phenomena, noumena, but it's a secret for now.
I almost became evil again. Halp!
I think this is getting too long and draggy, so next time? Ugh.

Justice (I Hope) Shall Prevail in Maguindanao

It's stupid not to react about this one. What the hell is happening with our country? Are we gonna rot like crazy? What happened in Maguindanao is awful, beyond human reasoning. All because of politics can mankind just blast off another life. There are innocents who were victimized too. In case you don't know, a massacre just happened in Maguindanao, a province in Mindanao, the third poorest province in the country. Politics.

Look, our country was just branded as the most dangerous place for journalists. And we have just went beyond Iraq and Somalia's reputation. It won't just scare international journalists too but everyone (business investors, tourists, etc.) too! Bull.

There's no need naming names for now. That is until justice will be served. And I believe it will be. The criminals shall be caught soon I suppose because of their "failed" (for me) operation. I don't either blame the government. I just hope they'd do better in coping up with situations like this.

Let not our country become a barbaric one. Though that's far from possible yet nationwide.

Glee-less Unextraordinary Night of Bryan Karl

I'm bored, pissed off and bored. Ever since Mikyu and I put up Glee TV Show Guide last week, we've been overly busy and happy with our nighttime. Two reasons! One, we get to do some happy things with our site - add posts, see stats, etcetera etcetera. Two, nighttime is daytime in the USA. And most of our readers are from there. Sigh.

As of writing, my poor blogs hosted at iRock Web Hosting are down. Don't give me the 'I told you so' look as that won't take effect. Probably I'm just unlucky when it comes to hosting - been there done that might as well learn. Host owner said there are problems in the data center. I don't quite get this data center thing though. All I know is that he is also pissed off with what's happening. He's 'transferring' accounts and I don't what that means. I'm not angry with him. I don't blame him. And put me in his shoe and I'd stumble. The least I could do is bug him (and let Mikyu help me bug him), so I'll just shut up and wait for 12 sad hours (ETA for the server to be up again) in agony.

I'm bored because I'm supposed to do a lot of things in the Glee site and all are put on hold. And also on my The Extraordinary Kiddo blog - supposed to write something to fill my wallet. But GOOD NEWS! My lost domain BryanKarl.net is now returned to its rightful owner... me! Thanks Jon Towns for giving me my domain back. Sorry for calling you a loser before but you're less a loser now with what you did. Forward, forward to a currently dead blog, rarr.

Amf, with the 24+ hours Glee site is dead, we're losing a big amount of visitors. Huhu, we're supposed to get 100/200+ a day and we just missed them now. Hope hope that everything's well soon.

Just Switched To Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope

After a very mind-boggling semester, my laptop which was using Windows Vista then became full, crappy and slow. I have been itching to use OSS ever since people claimed its wonders. Now that I am on my semestral break, I decided to borrow the installer of Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope, released last April 2009, from James.

Now my Vista's wiped out. I am using solely Ubuntu as of the moment because I felt I need some software refreshment. My Ubuntu's now fully functional; I hope I didn't miss anything. But here are some problems/not-much-of-a-problem that I faced during/after installation:

There are so many libraries and files to update. This is since the installer is for April 2009 and we are now in October and prolly there are thousands of upgrades/updates done in between. It took me around 3 hours to update.
No sound! This is the biggest problem I had. My soundcard doesn't seem to be recognized or what. I have to scour the web with all the possible solutions. I have tried a lot and most of them failed. I found the solution here: http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/index.php?topic=3103449.msg179195#msg179195. Just some minor file edits (I don't know and care what file that was) and a reboot and voila, I'm hearing That Girl by Plain White T's now.

One more question, will I stay with Ubuntu for a long time or do a dual boot with Vista? Of course I HAVE TO do a dual boot.

I don't like Open Office that much. Though there has been lotsa improvements, Microsoft Office still has the twang I need to do all my school stuff.
I think I'll be needing a Windows platform for my Special Problem next semester.
Windows still has its advantages over Ubuntu/Linux vice versa. It's good to get the best of both worlds.

So that's it. Thanks James for letting me borrow the installer. I needed this. Now I'm done with this, I'll do some minor exploration and next focus on reviving my freaking dead blog. Screw Kinohost.

As of writing my main blog is "suspended" and I don't know why they suspended it. No notice, announcement, email, anything! It frustrates you if that's the first thing that faces you in the morning! Rarr! I already sent an email to the owner Jon Towns asking for an explanation of such suspension of my bryankarl.net blog.

Now here's the deal, if my blog doesn't return tonight or I will not get a response from Mr. Jon Towns, I'd have to buy a new blog hosting service from bubblecrush.org or somewhere and I have no choice but to use my www.whataboutbryan.info domain since I still have it with me. And I have no money to buy a new domain in par with a new host so I'd have to recycle. And I don't care! Grrr.

I'm Going Back To Maribago Bluewater!

You heard that right! I'm going back again to one of Cebu's premium beach resorts, Maribago Bluewater Beach Resort. I Think I May Have Otitis Externa, Oh Noes!

After doing some quick research in the internet, I think I may have found the name of my problem... It was yesterday that I started feeling some pain on my right ear. Well it pains when I pull my ear, when I push it, or when I do something that shakes my head. I got a bit (or very?) worried that I had to research on ear pain just now. I stumbled on this diagnostic tree-structured like something about ear problems and I followed the questions openly. It lead me to this problem called Otitis Externa. At first I was hesitant to open since it says "swimmer's ears" and I haven't been swimming lately. But I opened anyways.

Otitis externa — commonly known as swimmer's ear — is an infection of the ear canal, the tubular opening that carries sounds from the outside of the body to the eardrum. It can be caused by many different types of bacteria or fungi. This is my first time to hear of such problem. Let me quote, "But you don't have to swim to get swimmer's ear. Anything that causes a break in the skin of the ear canal can lead to an infection. Dry skin or eczema, scratching the ear canal, vigorous ear cleaning with cotton-tipped applicators,... can all increase the risk of developing otitis externa." And I remembered I cleaned my ears last weekend using cotton-buds . Oh noes.

That made me conclude I MAY have otitis externa. It's really painful. I don't have any hearing problems though or any yellow pus thing dripping on me ear. If this stays after the finals week, then I may have to ask my mom to go with me to the hospital or wherever (I don't know). I just wish this won't worsen. D:

Been So Much Busy

Whew, can't believe my latest post is about Ondoy. That's history. Pepeng's the present. But anyways, finals week is next week and I would really have to face a very very rough week -- sleepless nights, tired eyes, weak body, wobbly and all.

I just finished editing our "music video" entry for The Sipser Show (that's on October 16 in Royal Concourse). We shot it in the Boardwalk at SRP and it was not that great but at least we have one.

Yesterday, we had our finals in Automata wherein I made a modified 7-7-7 haiku instead of the conventional one. My haiku sucks big time. After the quick final exam, we played a game called Sipser Wars. More details about our Sipser Wars game on my main blog.

For now, my whole week next week is already filled with final exams, reporting, defense, dance practices, etc. I just wish I would be able to make it to the week after next.

On Sunday next week, I'd be taking an "important" and "big" exam. But I don't put my hopes high. After the exam would be Philippine Blog Awards 2009! Weeh. I've been saying this over and over again, lol. Congrats Nogra for the nominations. That's one big step to stardom.

Today's a Sunday, and after writing this blog entry, I'd prepare myself for "school". Yep, I'd go to school later and make our artificial intelligence case study (or maybe continue coding the document tracker module). Is it ironic that artificial intelligence is seeping away all my intelligence? Doh.

Typhoon Ondoy left us a devastated Manila. Though as of speaking the waters have already gone away, some dried up, the remnants of the disaster still hang on the lives of the people affected by such calamity. There is a call for help. We know that there are many residents in Manila and thousands have been affected -- loss of lives, loss of property, loss of livelihood. We here in the provinces are lucky enough not to be damaged by Ondoy, or any typhoon in that matter. What we can do to help our fellowmen is to help.

As Tyra Banks said in her Twitter status, even a $1 amount could help and would sum up to a big total, enough to help many. If the foreign people are thinking of ways to help, much more reason for us to do our share of help. Kimmy Dora... I Just Can't Stop Laughing

Ok this may seem a bit too late but I'm posting it anyways. Yes, I've watched Kimmy Dora in SM Cinema last September 15. What made me decide to watch it? First and foremost, I NEEDED the laugh and the chill. I've been over-stressed this month and that one day is the only day I could slack off. So off a friend and I went to SM after our class to use my Jollibee GCs. And out of thin air we suddenly decided to watch the last full show of Kimmy Dora afterward. I got treated to Kimmy Dora! :P

We went in as the second to the last show was finished. We waited for half an hour for the show to start. Cool trailers amazed me -- 2012 and many more. Then Kimmy Dora.

Kimmy Dora stars Eugene Domingo, one of Philippines' top comediennes. I think this is her first time to take on the main role of a movie. But she did not fail her audience.

Kimmy Dora (Kambal sa Kyeme) tells the story of twins Kimmy and Dora, a parody of the soap opera Kambal sa Uma. It also stars Dingdong Dantes, Miriam Quiambao, Paolo Contis, Zanjoe Marudo, produced by Piolo Pascual and directed by Joyce Bernal.

The movie is full packed. If you would just look closely you'd actually learn a lot of things. It's no nonsense. I won't be telling you the synopsis here. I suggest you watch it in the big screen instead. My favorite part is when Dora acted to be Kimmy and this is where I couldn't stop laughing. I COULDN'T stop laughing.

I so much enjoyed the movie. Seems like Eugene Domingo's career's going to be rocketed off to more projects. The movie is worth more than the P120 ticket price. :)

Wow, after so long of not joining any blog contest, here I am again. When I started out as a blogger I used to preoccupy myself with blog contests. The prizes seem good enough and sometimes just grand. And there's no harm in joining right? But I am very unlucky when it comes to raffles. The only one time I got lucky was when I won a one year web hosting from BizzHost. But I haven't used it though.

Learn To Deal With Diversity

It was raining hard. I had around 20 steps back home but decided to continue on where I am going. The skies had cleared. A little. At these troubled times, I should have stayed at home and bored myself with notes about satellites and sensors. But I didn't. I rode a jeepney. And studied. Yep, in the jeepney.

I was about to doze off when a heavy thud brought me back to my senses. It rained so hard -- an instant storm. And I was about to get off. With only a handful of printed notes to cover me from the rain, I had to run across the wide mud-filled street and had to squirm myself out of the line of cars caught in the traffic. The first thing I saw is a shabby umbrella by a sidewalk vendor. I tried to keep myself dry with that small thing. Bad luck. The winds had settled when my next jeepney ride came.

Emergency meetings come with a purpose. And so it goes. Issues need to be tackled one by one. Ideas need to be collected, decisions made and whatsoever there is to do on meetings. I just realized that there's been so much going on now within our group. Conflict arises when we least expect them. And as a newbie I just don't know what to do, what to tell. So I listen.

Being in this group is practicing being a player in a diverse environment. There is so much diversity among ourselves that we tend to scrutinize rather than understand. There will be many happenings to follow and we just can't figure out what. For now, there is reason to weed out the bad grass and to sow the fruitful ones. Whatever that means.

I came home with my mind filled with eager thoughts and worried ones too. Thanks to the McDo chicken sandwich for filling me up as I go home.

Yaya and Angelina: The Spoiled Brat Movie Trailer

GMA Films and APT Entertainment present "YAYA & ANGELINA: The Spoiled Brat Movie", a rip-off from Bubble Gang's famous segment.

This funny movie from GMA stars Michael V as "Yaya" and Ogie Alcasid as "Angelina". This Yaya-Angelina tandem started out in GMA's gag show Bubble Gang and is now transformed to a movie, maybe from the viewers' request. If ABS-CBN has Kimmy Dora, GMA has Yaya and Angelina. Ok, completely off topic.

Intrams Has Ended, What Now?

Last Friday, UPVCC's Intramurals 2009 ended and that meant for everyone to go back to their ordinary school routine, enjoying and suffering from everything.

I had my Azeus interview that day. Turned out okay.

The closing part of Intrams was fun. We were first to perform in the Dance Fusion. We won third place. It should have been second place though. ;) Thanks to those who helped in the preparation - James, Jenny, Anne, Darlene, Honeylyn.

It was hard being bathed with glitter dust. Aside from having to shower everyone near you with it, it gets itchy most of the time. I went home with all the glitter dust on my body, concentrated on my neck. No wonder people are staring at us while we're heading home. The whole house got infected with the glitter dust. It was hard removing some on my scalp. Finally, all's gone now.

The Department of Computer Science won second place overall. Glad we weren't third. Who's third?!

Now everyone's back to work - Software Engineering, Remote Sensing, Automata (in preparation for The Sipser Show), and a lot more. I'm busy uploading all the documentation for Intrams e.g. Dance Fusion practice videos, basketball women video, etc. I will be studying Remote Sensing and Soft Eng soon. What a life.
