TreeWheelin' Bicycle Tour – Saturday October 24

A bicycle tour of over 50 of our most venerable heritage trees.

When – Saturday October 24 (9am start)

In 1976, over 200 of our oldest, largest, and most notable trees were inducted in to the City of Austin Bicentennial Registry. Join us on October 24, 2009 from 9 to noon as we pedal, bus, and walk to admire over fifty of our magnificent heritage trees. The Tree-Wheelin' Bicycle Tour aims to honor these trees--they are among our oldest citizens and most efficient city workers, and to recognize the valuable role of the urban forest in providing clean air and water, absorbing storm run-off, saving millions of dollars annually in energy costs, and beautifying our city and neighborhoods!

The tour begins at Pease Park with advanced, intermediate, and beginner guided rides. Riders can ride with a group or explore favorite trees or parts of the route at their own pace and leisure. Each tree will have a host with water and snacks, and riders can pick up a raffle ticket at each tree visited to qualify for a prize at the end of the tour! We'll finish the day up with TreeFolks' 20th Birthday Party ! (7pm at Fiesta Gardens)

The Bryker Woods neighborhood has several designated City of Austin Heritage Trees:

Elm Tree at 3302 Funston (besides house)
Live Oak Tree at 1112 West 31st (behind school)
Live Oak Tree at 1212 West 31st (back of house)
Live Oak Tree at 34th and Shoal Creek
Live Oak Tree at 1300 Northwood (front yard)
Live Oak Tree at 2815 Wooldridge (besides house) - 10th largest tree in Austin as possibly over 700 years old!
Post Oak Tree at 1617 Northwood (front yard)

Come out and celebrate and honor the majestic centenarians of our urban forest! Austin would not be Austin without the trees.

Bryker Woods Elementary School Carnival - Saturday Oct. 24th

Hi neighbors, Just wanted to let you know about Bryker Woods Elementary school carnival coming up on Saturday, Oct. 24th from 5:00 - 8:00 pm. We hope you can attend and bring your kids of any age! We have a lot of fun activities planned: Haunted House, Obstacle Course, circus act extraordinaire Schave and Reilly, Book Walk, Gross Out Your Mom, Guitar Hero, Limpy the Clown, Castle Bouncy House, Cake Walk, Duck Pond, Fortune Teller, Face Painting and much more! If there are any Bryker Woods alum out there, we'd love it if you'd like to volunteer with the Haunted House or the games. If you'd like to help out in some other way, we need books, books, and more children's books! We also need cans of soda and people or local businesses who would like to sponsor an event or activity. Sponsorships range from $150 to $500 and get your name (or business name) in banners, signs, and at whatever event you're sponsoring. All proceeds from the carnval go to the Bryker Woods PTA which funds the Spanish program, classroom supplies, lunch and playground monitors and class field trips. Bryker Woods Elementary Morning and Afternoon Traffic

Our morning arrival and afternoon dismissal is focused strictly on safety FIRST. Please use the circle drive for drop-off and pick-up. This driveway is a fire lane; therefore, unattended cars are not permitted. When exiting the driveway we ask that you turn right only. If you will, use Kerbey Lane (front of school) as a one-way going north, this will greatly help. Please stay in your car at all times. We will assist children in and out of cars. We ask that you end all cell phone calls when you enter the school zone. Our back parking lot is designated Staff Parking only. The staff needs to be able to arrive and then again leave without fear of not finding a spot or fear of being blocked in. Please be considerate of our neighbors-Do Not Block their drives or fail to give them room to back out. Local businesses also ask that we do not park in their lots. We are asking parents to park along the south side of 34th St (east of Kerbey). This street is very narrow and when cars are parked down both sides it is hard to use as a two way street. In short please remember: > Southbound on Glenview > Northbound on Kerby Thank you for your cooperation!

(Austin, Texas) The Bryker Woods Neighborhood Association is proud to announce the 2009 Bryker Woods National Night Out Celebration. The generations of families that share this terrific central Austin neighborhood will be gathering to celebrate autumn under the beautiful live oak trees that line our streets. Children are encouraged to ride bikes, skates and scooters, and adults are welcome to BYOBeverages. All participants can enjoy complimentary pizza and hotdogs fresh off the grill. Generous neighborhood businesses have donated items to be awarded as special prizes to lucky attendees, and great music will top off a fun-filled evening.

The Austin Police Department, Austin Fire Department and EMS have been invited to exhibit their vehicles and demonstrate firsthand their vital importance to our city.

Bryker Woods is comprised of homes and small businesses included roughly within the parameters of West 35^th Street, Shoal Creek, MoPac and Westover Road. Historic bridgesspan Shoal Creek connecting Bryker Woods to the University of Texas campus and Austin’s central business district.
