Tea is the world’s most popular beverage after water. It surpasses coffee in popularity, and is consumed in some form in nearly every culture.

Tea has become known for its healthy properties, including cancer-fighting antioxidants. It comes in a variety of types, each with differing colors, taste and fragrance.

As sales of tea have risen in the United States, new and exotic formulations and blends are becoming available. Here is a guide to tea, from white to black.

Tea leaves come from the Camellia sinensis plant, which is grown primarily in wet, warm climates. The plucked leaves are cured according to the type of tea being produced, with the lighter teas (such as white) undergoing less processing than the darker black teas.

Tea can be processed into an almost infinite variety of blends, each with a distinctive taste. Additives in the form of other plant materials, such as herbs and flowers, also increase the variety of flavors. Herbal teas, for example, are made by adding jasmine, rose, and chamomile, among other plants.

The three basic types of tea are white, green and black, each with different tastes and colors.

White—Leaves are picked and processed quickly, not allowing for the oxidation that will concentrate the taste. White tea is very pale in color, with a very delicate taste and aroma.

Green—Leaves are allowed to wilt, but not to oxidize, thereby allowing for some color. The taste of Green tea is stronger that white and is said to have good antioxidant properties as well as other chemical properties that aid in overall health, by reducing blood pressure and harmful bacteria.

Black—Leaves are allowed to fully wilt and oxidize. Black tea is higher in caffeine than the other colors, but still has less than coffee due to preparation methods. Less tea is used per cup than coffee, although tea has more caffeine per weight than coffee. Black tea is the most popular type in the United States, and is available in a variety of blends, such as English breakfast; and flavors, such as spiced chai.

Tea grown in different parts of the world, much like coffee, will have distinctive tastes. For example, Assam and Darjeeling are both grown in India, but in different regions. Asian tea is grown and prepared as lotus tea, from Vietnam, or as bubble tea, from Taiwan.

Here in the United States, tea is enjoyed cold and sweetened (Southern style), or as hot, with milk and perhaps sweetener. Whether you are shopping to buy tea online or at your local grocery, the varieties and tastes are endless, and worth discovering, as a delicious alternative to coffee.

Gavin Ashford

The fun of chewing the tapioca balls in Boba Tea !

Boba tea also called bubble tea is quite different from the conventional tea you have taken so far. If you have not tried the bubble tea / boba tea then it is time you give it a try. You have missed a lot without having such a wonderful tea.

The bubble tea or boba tea comes in different flavors. The flavors might be of any fruit you like or you can have the bubble tea with any dairy creamer you like. A bubble tea can be green or black with the addition of ice or make it hot.

Usually you get two main types, which are fruit flavored and milk bubble tea. For more flavors of boba tea you can check the site boba tea direct.

The boba tea has the bubble tea pearls made of tapioca balls. When you have the boba tea, the boba pearls are also taken along with the tea.

You will be chewing a few boba pearl balls along with the drink and this gives you a different sensation and taste that you have never felt before. It will be more exciting for the first time and you will never miss to have it when you get a chance in the future.

The boba pearls that are added to the bubble tea are prepared from the cassava root or tapioca. Small ball-like shapes are created with this root and cooked well before it is used in the boba tea. These ball like shapes are called the boba and hence the name boba tea.

Use a wide straw to drink this tea so that the balls come up with the tea. Since the tapioca balls do not have a taste, they are soaked in honey for an hour before they are used in the boba tea. So when you chew the boba pearls you find that experience different while you have your tea.

There are also boba teas that have coffee jelly, rainbow jelly, or coconut jelly added to it in the form of cubes. Having these little cubes added along with the Boba pearls gives a different taste while drinking tea. Instead of chewing the tapioca balls alone, these jellies offer you different flavors in between.

There are many flavors of bubble tea that you can get. One of the types of bubble tea called snow bubble tea has shaved ice cream along with your favorite flavor of fruit.

Although the bubble tea’s origin is Taiwan, it is now spread across different countries like China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Philippines, South Korea, Malaysia and Macau. It is one of the popular drinks in these countries and now it is also spreading in United States of America, Europe, Canada, and Australia.

So the next time you want to try something different, make the bubble tea or boba tea as your choice.

You can get more detailed information on boba tea at www.bobateadirect.com.

No, it’s not bubble gum! Rather, it is bubble tea. If this term sounds strange to you, let’s take a look at the origins of bubble tea and the place it holds in society today.

Are you wondering how bubble tea got its “bubbly” name? Well, this is because when it is shaken it produces a frothy, bubbly texture.

Bubble tea is a combination of iced or hot black or green sweetened tea with either milk or fruit flavors added to it. Therefore, there are two types of bubble tea – fruit-flavored bubble tea and milk bubble tea.

The milky bubble teas can be enjoyed with dairy or nondairy creamers. On the other hand, fruit bubble tea has a wide variety of flavoring that can be added to it – including the tastes of chocolate, coconut, passion fruit, and strawberry.

These flavors can be added to the bubble tea as a powder-like substance, juice, syrup or pulp. After all of the extras are added to it, the tea is then shaken in a cocktail shaker or put in a blender.

Gum-like balls made of cooked tapioca (often referred to as yam starch in Asia) can be added to the bubble tea drink. These balls are sometimes also referred to as “pearls” or “Boba”. They sink to the bottom of the teacup, and are sipped through a wide straw along with the drink.

They have a diameter of about six millimeters or less, and are meant to give the drinker something to chew on between sips of tea. The tapioca pearls have little taste to them, but are typically soaked in sugar or honey after being boiled for a half of an hour. They are typically good to use for up to seven hours after they are prepared.

If you do not happen to be a fan of tapioca, you can use coconut jelly, coffee jelly, lychee jelly, rainbow jelly, or konjac jelly instead. These types of jellies can be made into small cubes for you to enjoy. Some tea enthusiasts actually order “half and half” bubble teas, with one half tapioca pearls and one half jelly cubes.

New types of bubble teas are constantly coming about.

For example, a “Snow Bubble” is the slushy-like version of the bubble tea. It is made with shaved ice and fruit flavoring.

Bubble teas originated in Taiwan, and are highly popular in Asia, including places like China, Hong Kong, Macau, South Korea, the Philippines, Malaysia and Singapore. It is also gaining popularity in the United States, as well as Europe, Australia and
Canada.

Bubble tea is available in a variety of small cafes and restaurants around the globe. These types of places typically serve coffee drinks as well as fruit smoothies and juice drinks. Cafes that sell bubble tea in these countries use plastic dome-shaped

lids on their cups to keep the frothiness inside the cup.

So don’t be shy… try some bubble tea today and see what the rage is all about!

You might be asking yourself: “What the heck is bubble tea?”. First it’s a very fun drink and one of my favorite drinks.

Bubble tea is also known as boba tea or pearl milk tea. It’s mainly made up of tea, large pearls of tapioca, fruit flavoring, and milk. You use a large straw to drink it and suck up the chewy pearls as you’re drinking. You can use any sort of tea you can think of: green tea, black tea, jasmine tea and so on.

So how can you make some?

Here are the ingredients: Large tapioca pearls, tea bags, bubble tea powder mix, water, and (optional) sugar/syrup. All the ingredients can most likely be found at your local Asian grocery store.

Here are the steps for the bubble tea recipe.

Note: 1 serving consists of 1 tablespoon of large tapioca pearls, 3/4 cup of tea base, and 3/4 cup of the dissolved bubble tea powder.

1. Tapioca pearls: Bring water to a boil in a pot and add the tapioca pearls (8 cups of water per 1 cup of pearls). Boil for 5 minutes while stirring. Turn off the heat and let them simmer covered for 15 minutes. Drain the water after that.

2. Tea base: Bring water to a boil in a pot and add the teabags (3/4 cup of water per 1 teabag). Boil for about 5 minutes.

3. Bubble tea powders: Bring water to a boil in a pot and add the powder (which usually consists of a mix of milk powder and a flavoring powder) in a package. Proceed as instructed on the package but it’s usually about 3/4 cup of water and 1 or 2 scoops of powder.

4. To a glass, add 1 full tablespoon of the cooked tapioca pearls, 3/4 cup of tea base, and the dissolved bubble tea powder. You may want to add 1 tablespoon of sugar or syrup if you like it sweet.

5. Mix everything together and refrigerate for about 1 hour.

Enjoy! So that’s the bubble tea recipe in 5 easy steps. Try it!

In the year 1980, in Taiwan a new drink was born. This drink is actually two in one, because it can be both a drink and something to eat at the same time.

Bubble tea is the name of this drink or so to say the name that stuck with it. Boba tea or tapioca drink or pearl sake are some of the names that were given to this drink at first before one stuck.

Bubble tea, or in short boba tea, then started to gain ground because it was fun and tasty and different. Boba tea first gained Asia, and then Europe was next in line. Nowadays, bubble tea is popular all over the world.

If you wonder where the name came from, then this is another story. Bubble tea or boba tea contains tapioca, this being the main ingredient. The name bubble actually refers to the balls of tapioca that can be found in your boba tea.

In its beginnings, bubble tea was actually made of the black tea specific in Taiwan, mixed with honey and condensed milk. As the drink became more and more popular, some other variations started to be created. This made boba tea more fun then it was before.

The possibility of having the same drink but tasting different every time is actually something that most of us dream of. As variations stared to be created so did the name of the drink. Milk tea, big pearl, pearl tea were some of the alternatives to the original name of this drink. In the end, bubble tea or boba tea stuck, because a great drink like this had to have a catchy name as well.

As the popularity of bubble tea grew, the recipe started to change in order to meet the demands of the costumers. At first there was the iced version of boba tea. This was very popular and so the changes went on. Makers started to add flavors to the bubble tea.

At first they tried only a hint of plum or peach flavor and because it was so successful, other flavors were added as well. In the end, boba tea became tea- less, its place being taken by real fruits. Nevertheless, the name bubble tea stuck, even if there was no tea in the drink anymore.

However, there are still places where the boba tea actually has tea in it and is pretty much like the original drink, except only some minor changes. Bubble tea is now a mixture of sweetened tea, hot or iced, milk, tapioca and sometimes other flavors as well.

This drink is found in plastic glasses and you actually drink it through a straw. It can be difficult at times, because the main characteristic of bubble tea is tapioca pearls, that are as big as six millimeters in diameter. These tapioca pearls were the reason why many names with pearl were given to this drink, before these two names: bubble tea or boba tea became permanent.

Nowadays, besides the normal color of the pearls, which is translucent brown, some other colors are available as well.

In the end, what is the most important of all is that bubble tea is both fun and tasty and the changes that has evolved are for the better.

Have you ever tasted BOBA? Do you know what is it? Or do you ever heard of it? Well let me tell you about it. It’s a tea.

Well it’s a type of tea with different flavors and can be hot and can be cold. Are you tired of the latest fad coffees?

Something new is hitting tea houses and coffee shops across the country. It’s bubble tea.

This bizarre drink also goes by the names BOBA, pearl tea, milk tea, or bubble drink. It’s part drink, part dessert snack, and all fun!

Bubble tea is far from the plain-looking tea you are familiar with. It comes in a wild variety of flavors and colors. Challenge your palate with peach, lichee, mango or passion fruit!

There are also the more traditional green or black tea flavors. It can be served either hot or cold. My personal favorite is chocolate milk black tea, iced. But the fun part of bubble tea isn’t the colors or the flavors; it’s the ‘bubbles’.

Let me tell you now the Recipe of BOBA TEA (Bubble Tea):

Ingredients:

• 3 ounces tapioca pearls

• sugar syrup

• 1 cup brewed tea (Chinese black tea or lychee tea is good)

• 1 cup milk (or to taste)

• Ice cubes

• Tapioca Pearls

• 1 part tapioca pearls

• 4 parts (or more) water

• Sugar Syrup

• 2 parts white sugar

• 1 part brown sugar

• 3 parts water

Preparation:

Prepare the tapioca pearls (see below)

Place the tapioca pearls in the large glass jar

Allow the tea to cool to room temperature.

Add the milk.

Remember the wild bar scenes in the Tom Cruise film Cocktail?

Add the sugar syrup, milk and tea mix, and the ice cubes to a cocktail shaker and shake well. (Alternately you can process them in a blender, but that’s not nearly as much fun!)

Pour the shaken mixture into the glass with the tapioca pearls.Serve with a thick straw.

To make the tapioca pearls:

When making the tapioca pearls, which are the chief ingredient in Asian bubble teas, please note that the pearls expand considerably when cooked. Please ensure that you use a large pot.

(As a rule, the more pearls cooked, the more water should be used: that is, the water to pearl ratio must be higher. For 3kgs of pearls, we recommend using as much as 6 times as much water.)

Boil the water.

Add the pearls to the boiling water and boil for 30 minutes.

Stir occasionally to make sure the pearls are not sticking to each other or to the pot.

Turn off heat and let the pearls steep in the water for another 30 minutes with the lid of the cooking pot on.

Drain the tapioca pearls and rinse with cold water to cool them down.

Place them in sugar syrup (sugar and water solution – see below). Make sure that the pearls are covered.

Stir the pearls well. The pearls are now ready to enjoy.

If you know about the Pearl Milk Tea, so let me tell you its Recipe also.

This can be made with black, green, oolong, chai, or yerba mate. The most popular are black tea and green jasmine tea.

3/4 cup tea

1 Scoop non-dairy powder creamer

1 Scoop bubble tea sugar syrup

1 cup ice

2 fl. oz. of cooked Bubble Tea Tapioca Pearls

1. Put hot tea, creamer and bubble tea sugar syrup in shaker and mix well.

2. Add in ice, cover shaker and shake for a nice froth.

3. Add tapioca pearls to a cup, and pour your drink over.

4. Put in your big fat bubble tea straw and enjoy.

So look how easy it is to make and enjoy the most amazing tea in the town.

Author: Groshan Fabiola

How many of you have started to get tired of the same drinks, or coffee or tea? Maybe if there was something to replace it, then you would not have to drink the same drink day after day. Well, there is! And it has been for over twenty-seven years, but you just did not know that. This new, fun drink is called bubble tea.

Almost twenty-seven years ago, in Taiwan a new drink came to life and not any drink but one that could ease your thirst and your appetite at the same time. It is both something that you can eat and drink.

Because it was such a challenging drink, it had to have a challenging name. This is why many attempts have been made until one name stood in front of the others. Before bubble tea stuck, boba tea, pearl drink or tapioca drink were some of the names that were given to this amazing drink.

It did not take boba tea too much to gain its popularity. Right after it had been invented, it gained Asia, and Europe came soon after. Nowadays this drink has conquered the world and every culture there is.

Bubble tea has a very interesting history down to its name. The original drink was made out of condensed milk, honey, tapioca balls and the special ingredient was a type of tea that could only be found in Taiwan.

As this drink started to become more and more popular, changes were needed to make this tea much more interesting and fun. Many liked the original drink but felt that something was missing so they demanded more and more from this unique drink. This is how boba tea became iced and then more flavors started to be added.

Some of the most popular flavors include: taro, coconut, strawberry, mango, passion fruit, and milk tea. The fun you could have both creating and drinking this amazing tea were endless. Somewhere along the way this tea drink actually became tea-less because the imagination of the people was so rich.

The name has its own history as well. Because of the complexity of ingredients used, picking a name for this drink was difficult. Moreover, it had to be a catchy name that represented this fun drink. Big pearl, after the tapioca balls found in the drink, milk tea or pearl tea were some of the first names given to this tasty, rich drink. In the end the name that stuck to this drink was bubble tea or boba tea for short.

For those who want to enjoy the original taste of this crazy drink, there are still some places where the original recipe of the drink can be found with only minor alterations. Tapioca is still the main ingredient, mixed with sweetened tea, that can be either hot or iced and milk. If you want, various additional flavors can also be added.

The important thing that has not changed over the years is that bubble tea or boba tea is the same tasty, fun-to-make and drink beverage that everybody loved. Nothing essential has been changed because the success that it had was due to its original taste.

Tea and coffee are the classic drinks but these days tea and coffee are prepared in different modern techniques and flavours.

Boba tea is a new addition in the traditional drinks of tea and coffee. Bubble tea is the latest tea fad from Asia.

A tall glass of iced tea is a summer-time classic. There are many different ways to prepare it. Like most people like it as Apple and honey iced tea or Boston Iced tea and cranberry orange iced tea is very famous.

Beside these flavors there are lots of different iced tea can be enjoyed in the summer time, like Ginger iced tea, Lemon almond iced tea, Lime mint iced tea, Milk Thandai, Peach iced tea, Raspberry honey iced tea, Saigon tea, Sparkling jasmine iced tea, Spiced maple iced tea and Thai iced tea.

Also don’t sacrifice your cup of coffee just because the weather is too warm. There are lots of ways to serve up iced coffee like Iced Coffee Tips, Cinnamon Caramel Iced Coffee, Coffee Coke Float, Coffee Latte Shake, Coffee Soda, Cold Coffee Nog, Death from the Kettle, Espresso Chill, Frosty Miss, Iced Cafe au Lait, Iced Honey Coffee, Iced Raspberry Chocolate Cappuccino, Instant Iced Cappuccino, Lemon Cafe and Thai Iced Coffee.

Don’t let your coffee drinks get watered down with plain ice cubes. Freeze some coffee ahead of time in an ice cube tray. For a fancy touch, add a couple of whole roasted coffee beans to each cube. Warn your guests though. When the cubes melt, you don’t want folks choking on the loose beans.

Tired of the latest fad coffees? Something new is hitting tea houses and coffee shops across the country. It’s bubble tea.

This somewhat bizarre drink also goes by the names boba, pearl tea, milk tea, or bubble drink. It’s part drink, part dessert snack, and all fun! There aren’t too many drinks out there that you can chew as well as sip.

No, it’s not carbonated tea. Bubble tea is a new drink from Asia that is all the rage these days. Boba tea is served hot or cold, in crazy flavors with tapioca balls in the bottom.

Bubble tea can be a tricky drink to make at home, because you need special ingredients and tapioca pearls.

Time Required: 5 min

Here’s How:

In a cocktail shaker, combine the following:

1 scoop flavour powder
1 scoop powdered dairy creamer
1 scoop sugar syrup
3/4 cup tea, cold
1 cup ice

Shake everything up until the powders are dissolved and well blended.

Pour in a glass over the cooked tapioca pearls.

Tips:

You can adjust the amounts to suit your own tastes.

Can also be made hot, without the ice.

Have you heard about the latest sensation in the world of beverages? It’s a new Asian tea drink that started in Taiwan some 20 years ago and made it to California in the 90’s. Its called bubble tea or boba tea.

If you haven’t had one yet, you need to try one. You’ll either like it or not, but I guaranty that your first experience will have you surprised, bewildered, and maybe shocked beyond words. This is not your grandma’s dainty cup of camomile tea.

To describe it is a little difficult, but here it goes, boba tea is any number of cool and refreshing combinations of flavors of teas, milk and sugar. The tea is likely to be in pastel colors of yellow, pink, or green and its not overwhelmingly sweet.

Mixed in with the drink is small dark, pea-sized balls made from tapioca. These tapioca balls are usually several layers deep sitting at the bottom of the clear plastic cup in which the tea is served.

You’re given a special super wide straw to suck up these bobas as you enjoy the tea. At first it may seem weird to suddenly have plump balls of tapioca in your mouth as you’re sipping up the cool tea, but both the tea and the chewy tapioca make for a surprisingly good match.

I had my first boba tea 8 years ago at a Vietnamese restaurant in Mira Mesa San Diego. Since then, it seems that you can find boba tea all over San Diego and one place I’ve been going to is called Tea Station located on Mira Mesa Blvd. You can find boba tea now in most larger cities in the US.

Give boba tea a try and see if you like it. This may be the start of the next big counter punch to Starbucks.
