Bucketworks news and updates

On May 22, 2002 I signed a lease for a space on the first floor of 1319 N Martin Luther King Jr Dr and, with the energy and inspiration of friends like Steve Servais and Melissa Merline, began to transform the detritus of a printing company and press workshop into Bucketworks. Now Bucketworks is 10 years old, and it's time to celebrate!

Join us on June 8th to celebrate! (6pm to 11pm)

If you're a Facebook user, please RSVP on our Facebook event page.

If you've had anything to do with Bucketworks--ever used it, gained from it, created something with it, staffed it, volunteered at it, supported it--created it--please come and celebrate with us. Bring your stories in written form, or write them on the spot, and drop them in our Story Collector. We will also have some entertainment, some libations, and conversation that will give you energy and inspiration for the next ten years.

This celebration is only the first in a year of celebration. We'll be sharing media, images, movies and stories from the first ten years, highlighting the history of Milwaukee's creative community: the people who...

Innovative minds are always coming up with million dollar ideas, but how many millionaires are actually out there? We're willing to bet there's a millionaire inside of YOU somewhere, deep down.

This Dabble class is all about selling your ideas with minimal investments of time and money. First we'll cover inexpensive yet effective ways to patent your inventions. We'll discuss how to keep everything private, along with ways to quickly search if your idea is truly original. Then we'll walk through checkpoints to determine if your idea is marketable, today, and where. We'll learn the various methods and corresponding benefits of selling your ideas to fit your lifestyle. Lastly, instruction will cover manufacturing in China and beyond.

Students will have the opportunity for free consultation and product valuations from the instructor. Walk away inspired to get your invention out there, and even with contacts who can help protect, manufacture, ship, fund and buy your inventions!

Full Fontal Pϋppetry: Summer Sell-Out (June 8-9, 15-16 and July 13-14, 19-20) brings the live action puppet comedy-variety show by Angry Young Men, Ltd., that wacky local troupe of theatre geeks, artisans, mad scientists, and drinkin’ buddies to Soulstice Theatre, 3770 S Pennsylvania Ave in St Francis.

This is the latest round of Full Frontal Pϋppetry, named for their performance style; one part Japanese Bunraku, One part Vaudeville, and one part Splatter Film. The puppeteers appear as shadows behind the characters, and their show is a combination of sketch comedy, musical numbers, political humor, new video material, and fractured poetry. They have been described by the Shepherd Express as “The sort of inspired goofiness that makes Theatre worth going to”, and by author (and living legend) Harlan Ellison as “Enormously witty and engaging”.

This round’s guest host will be Alice Wilson, local performer and founder of the local Silent-film comedy troupe, the M.U.T.E.S. Many familiar puppet characters will be returning, such as the Director Puppet Murray Gauntman, Lumpy the Golem Boy, Joon the Ogre, the inventor Blondie, and musical masochist Sweepea. Alternatively irreverent, rowdy, dark, and sweet, Full Frontal...
