Well, a new year is upon us.  So far it feels a lot like last year.  But it’ll be better.  Well, I don’t know that all things will be better, but here at Buffet o’ Blog we have plans to make your experience here better than ever.  And that should be worth something. 

For a few minutes around midnight, when it officially became 2010, I tuned in to the Dick Clark new years countdown special on ABC.  Right after it happened, they went live to a female broadcaster in the middle of Times Square, who gave her first impression of the new year and all the celebrations going on.  Her response?  “I’m crying.  I feel like a little girl.”  Really?  I wonder how much she’s getting paid for that kind of insight…  Not to be critical, but I think I could’ve come up with something better than that… (and I write for free!)

And then there were people singing “Auld Lang Syne”.  I don’t know all the lyrics, but there’s something about “should old acquaintances be forgot and never brought to mind”.  I don’t get it.  Why is there a song about forgetting people?  I mean, if they did something bad to you, then it would be good to forget, but why forget old acquaintances just because it’s a new year?  Maybe I should write a new song for new years, talking about starting the year fresh, with new years resolutions, and planning to keep those resolutions longer than a few weeks this time. 

Traffic here at the blog was at the lowest point of the year on Christmas Day (and it was still 223 pageloads).  This is understandable, because we aren’t posting new content around that time, and most people are probably spending time with their families and playing with their new toys.  Since fewer people are browsing the Internet that day, I had to wonder what people were searching for.  I’m going to limit the results just to what brought people to this blog, and I’m going to remove some of the similar entries.  (Also, only a certain number of search terms are stored for each day, so this may not be everything.)

There you have it.  Are you surprised?  Imagine someone on Christmas Day searching for “fat men dancing” or “worms in feces” or “poop in toilet”.  I reckon some people spend their Christmas day a lot differently than I do…    To each their own…  But it’s not a problem, because we’re open 24/7, and pages of randomness are served even if no one is in the office.  That’s one of the neat things about technology…

Here’s a caption contest to start getting things back to normal after the holidays.  This picture features President Barack Obama holding a puppy in front of the Lincoln Memorial.  Figure out something funny to explain what’s going on here.   You can write what Obama might be thinking, or what a political analyst might say, or what an average citizen might think.  Or you can just make up something really random.  You can even put words in the puppy’s mouth.  Just keep it clean, funny, and don’t use this as a forum for serious political rants (there are plenty of places for that).

I realize I missed posting the weekly caption contest, but I have a good excuse — I had stuff to do.    I say that partly for humor, but it is true, because it’s been really busy the past few days.

Hopefully none of you regular readers are having withdrawals.  But if anyone misses my daily ramblings, then that means there’s something good going on here.    And maybe someone will feel inspired to show their support for all this free entertainment by sending in a donation of chocolate-chip cookies (or any similar gift).  If not, I’ll keep rambling anyway.  But chocolate-chip cookies are really scrumptious. 

After the Christmas break, we’ll get back to our regularly-scheduled program.  In the meantime, you just get occasional updates like this, where I write about how I’m too busy to write… 

Things are busy around here, trying to find the perfect gift for people you don’t see often, and going to various Christmas parties.  So posting has been a little slow the past few weeks (and will continue next week).  So here’s a quick post, just so you won’t have withdrawals too bad. 

If you don’t get the joke / pun, it’s that “Feliz Navidad” means “Merry Christmas” in Spanish.  I’m not sure if knowing that makes it any funnier (because it is a pun, after all), but it may cause some of you to groan (which I suppose is the purpose of puns).
