If you wish to keep Koi in your water garden, you must also be prepared to take care of them. Attending to their welfare is something that you must not ignore at all. Koi became popular because of their attractive features, but don't let the appeal of the Koi entice you to run out and buy them immediately.

There are so many things to consider when owning Koi. It takes a lot of effort, time and money. The first thing you must do before buying Koi is do extensive research and planning. Since Koi became popular, many have become experts at keeping them. Always be sure that the information you are receiving is accurate and can be relied on.

Providing a good environment for the Koi:
A preparation for their proper habitat is necessary. Koi are cold water fish. It will be better if you can keep them in a larger pond based on their number. The pond should have good filtration to keep the water clear. All the dead algae, insects and fish wastes should be removed. It is important that you have a biological filtration that makes a nitrogen cycle. It will keep the waste from turning into ammonia that can kill your Koi. The only way to keep the Koi alive is to have quality water. You have to ensure that the pond is ready and well prepared before introducing the fish to it.

You must look for a quality protein food for Koi. Medium-sized pellets tend to work great for the larger fish, and bits of fruit as a tasty snack. You must ensure you give them a good variety as too much of one thing is never good. Remember it's important not to over feed them as leftover foods can rote and contaminate the water.

You also need to be aware of what predators will endanger your Koi. As an example, cats and raccoons are a common threat, and prowl by the water's edge in anticipation for a quick meal. Planting a variety of aquatic plants around the perimeter of the pond won't allow predators such easy access to the water's edge.

Breeding the Koi:
When you are ready to spawn your Koi, make sure you have a moderate temperature of water. You must also know the kind of breeder that you want for example the color combination and the pattern. This will help you determine your choice of breeding partners because the offspring will vary on the combination of parents that you have chosen. You must be careful in choosing so that you won't be disappointed by the result of the offspring. When the fry hatch, it's necessary to keep them from their parents. Koi are prone to eating their young.

It is important that you keep the proper balance of oxygen in the water to help you reach success in your koi breeding. Not keeping the proper amount of water in your pond with the right amount of oxygen could easily cause the fry to die.

When making your decision on how many successfully bred Koi to keep, you need to consider a couple of factors. How much space do they need? A quick rule of thumb for Koi ponds would say, "One inch of fish per 10 gallons of water". Larger fish require more space so be sure to do a rough calculations. Koi are sociable and like to swim in groups but if you overstock the pond then the fish could become sick or die.

Contemporary koi ponds feature very abstract and intentional manmade designs that follow the established rules of geometric order. The beauty of this form lies in the versatility and freedom of creative design that it affords the residential landscape designer. While it is truly a modern design element, its aesthetic is not limited to only modern landscapes.

It is not so much the style of landscaping that defines the shape and size of the pond, but the architecture of the home and surrounding outdoor buildings. The shapes, lines, and angles of contemporary koi ponds reflect compliment the styles of many different types of homes.

A contemporary koi pond is very different from a traditional one. In traditional design, follow a more freeform movement that mimics natural ponds and lakes. Typically, such ponds are constructed near trees or gardens in order to add a park-like or even wilderness theme to the landscape design.

This is not so with contemporary koi ponds. As with any contemporary style, organic presence is minimized and abstract conceptualization is elevated through preeminent geometry. Rectangles, squares, triangles, and radiuses are the shapes that our landscape architects prefer to work with.

The minimal presence of vegetation does not mean that the contemporary koi pond lacks all feeling of life. The truth is something else here. Life is not absent; it is simply expressed in a more subtle manner within the stark boundaries of the geometric form.

Rather than creating an abundance of organic life, go back to the basic element of organic life by placing special emphasis on the relationship between the water within the pond and the design of the structure that contains it. The soft fluidity of clear essence conjoined with the rugged absolutes of structure lends a calming, comforting aesthetic to the abstract sense of mind.

Rather than planting trees and shrubs lining along its banks, ornament its edges with copings made from high grade materials. Instead of planting colorful flowers that hang over the edge of the water, let the fish bring the color to the surface. This adds even more dimension to the pond, and sometimes even brings gifts of attention. Koi have been known to let people feed them by hand.

Some contemporary koi ponds are built like swimming pools as unique, individual elements of the landscape design. When construct them in this fashion, you can build a walkway across the water that will allow guests to walk across its surface and feed the fish.

You can blend the two forms by building a radius into the coping that actually pushes the water into the vegetation. This works particularly well with modern tropical gardens, where exotic plants appear more vibrant in the presence of water, and hardscape design is magnified and blended into semi-organic space.

Still others love water and fish so much that they want their contemporary koi ponds to be the center of attention and activity.

This minor aspect of freeform designed introduced into linearity and angularity adds a softening touch to the hardscape design and custom patio work. It helps make contemporary form more inviting, relaxed, and amenable to special occasions. A fountain or waterfall can then be added at the opposite end that will even further magnify calming presence of water and mind, and lighting can be placed under the water to extend the sense of living presence into open space, beyond the rigidity and perceived absolutes of form.

Arguably some of the most beautiful and visually arresting types of fish to have in your possession are Koi. It is an unusual enough name but one that is somehow appropriate for such an elegant and graceful pond fish.

Koi are particularly long-lived fish with life spans of 25 to 35 years not at all that uncommon. Some specimens have even been known to live for up to 200 years! For all their longevity however, Koi can be somewhat temperamental and they typically require a lot more care and attention than your common variety carp.

Nevertheless, the skill and knowledge required to maintain a school of Koi is by no means unattainable and by keeping a few guidelines in mind, there is certainly no reason why you--or anyone for that matter--should not be the happy owner of a pond full of Koi happily swimming away.

One of the requirements of Koi that you will have to address if you intend to raise these majestic water creatures is that they demand a great deal of oxygen; more so in fact than probably any other resident of your pond. As such, you will need to install a water filtration system that is thoroughly dependable and reliable. This is the only way to ensure that your Koi live a happy and healthy existence for as long as possible. You can certainly do worse than to look into a good biological filtration system from a reputable company. The cost may be a bit more than you were prepared to handle to begin with, but believe us your fish will love you for it!

Somewhat related to the Koi's need for lots of oxygen is their need to have a suitably large space to romp around in. If the space in the pond is limited, your Koi will simply not grow to their ideal size...which is a shame really, as their size is one of their most distinguishing features.

One of the things that you can do to maximize the area of the pond is to build it so that the walls are as vertical as possible. This will also minimize the incidents of attack by birds and other wildlife, which is one of the main causes of death of Koi's.

For many types of fish, stress is an all-important factor that can be a major cause of death and illness if not addressed. Koi are not very much different from other species in this regard and you really should guard against this as much as possible if you want to enjoy your Koi for a good long time. In line with this, you would do well to monitor the quality of the water regularly, checking for the presence of ammonia as well as nitrites and nitrates. PH levels are another important concern and its level is directly related to how harmful the other contaminants are to your fish.

Finally Koi are omnivorous by nature, so they will have no trouble subsisting on a wide variety of food from plants and fruits to pet food that is typically available at pet supply stores.

About the Author
The author of this article has been publishing articles online since -06 as well as creating websites on various topics since -04.
One of the best things you can add to a garden or your backyard is a fish pond, and having a pond added to your garden ideas will require a bit of planning. There are a number of ideas you can use when you are planning on putting these structures in your backyard, and these ideas can be easily worked on as long as you know what you are getting yourself into. Basic ideas for building and maintaining a pond filled with fishes should include the design of the pool in correlation to the surrounding garden, the type of fish you want to have in it, the size of the structure, and even the design elements that you want to add to it.

When you want to add a pond to your existing garden, you will need to find an ideal spot where you intend to put it. Some of the suggestions you might want to consider include areas where the pond is visible from the house or areas that need the added attraction of a fish pond in it if your yard is way too big. Another thing you will need to consider would be the construction of such an addition to your garden and what kind of materials and designs you should choose. There are many ideas you can use when you decide to put a pond in your garden. Some of the choices people make for the pond include plastic basins, wooden barrel type constructions, concrete pools, and even those ponds that are lined with tiles for easier cleaning.

When planning your pond, you will need to have a diagram and a list of the construction materials. Included in the list of materials are the other elements that you will need to make your little fish haven look good and this includes the plants, rocks, and other decorative pieces you may want it to have in and around it. Your fish pond will need to have a water source that you can easily gain access to. Your fish home would also need to have a place in your yard where leaves will not constantly fall into it and that there is still some shade for it to be protected from direct sunlight during certain times of the day.

When it comes to choosing the fish for your fish pond, you will need to follow certain suggestions that most fish pond experts have on the subject. There are many types of goldfish and koi that you can choose from when it comes to putting fish in your little fish pool, and the choices include goldfish breeds such as the oranda, fantails, black moors, and ryukin. When it comes to koi, you will find that they come in many different types that include hi utsuri, kohaku, cha goi, and asagi.

About the Author
Create a good looking pond from the many fish pond ideas that you can get from fish pond experts.

How to keep a cool Koi Garden

Imagine watching a variety of gorgeous koi fish with their striking colors and patterns, swimming across your own pond. Wouldn't that be an absolute delight?; a delight that you would want to come back to again and again. No doubt they are delightful to watch. However, you need to keep your Koi garden pond in a healthy and clean condition to enjoy them the most.

A Koi garden is not your typical garden with trees and plants. A botanical garden is a delight in its own right. But, a Koi garden is a garden that can combine various elements to create a healthy eco-system for your Koi fish to live. A Koi garden can contain various elements, the main constituents of which are a pond, the Koi fish and plant life. Many other elements such as pathways, waterfalls, lights, seating area, etc can be added to create a fascinating Koi garden.
The foremost point to consider when creating a pond is the size. A pond with depth of a minimum of 4 feet is recommended to ensure that the Koi have enough room for healthy survival. As you already probably realize, the Koi will keep growing in size so a comfortable space is necessary for each of the Koi fishes to live with ease.

Another advantage of such depth is that it helps the fish from being caught by house pats or any other predators. Once you have decided about the size, then you need to decide where you will place the Koi garden pond. The worst place to place is under direct sunlight. It should be spot which is out of contact with debris, dust and chemicals. Even a small measure of pesticide or lawn chemicals can put the lives of your Koi fish in danger.

Sadly, plants and Koi fish cannot co-exist. Koi fish can give you the owner lot of work when you place potted plants in the pond. They may certain times dig into the soil or knock it over making the pond entirely messy. However this doesn't rule out growing plants altogether. This hurdle can be resolved by covering the pots with netting to prevent the Koi from digging.
Lilies are a wonderful option for your Koi fish garden pond. There is a wide range of lilies to choose from. There are lilies that grow well in shallow waters and there are those that thrive in deep waters. Although they are not so good at generating oxygen, lilies provide good shelter and shade for the koi fishes.

About the Author
For more information about on how to have a cool koi garden go to http://coyfishgarden.com/koi-garden/ now

The Brilliant Features of Koi Fish Ponds

Koi fish ponds can make brilliant features in anybody's garden and the best thing about keeping Koi fish ponds is that these fish are not that difficult to look after. Koi fish come from the carp family which means that they can grow to quite a substantial size, so when you decide to keep Koi fish ponds you should always make sure that you have enough room for the fish to grow. The rule of thumb when it comes for space for Koi fish, is that each pair of Koi need around 1000 gallons of water at least, this means that if you are planning on keeping around ten Koi fish, then you will need 5000 gallons of water on average.

If you do decide to keep Koi fish ponds, or any fish pond in your garden then it is always a good idea for you to invest in some netting to go across the top of the pond and this will do several jobs. The first thing it will do is that it will deter your Koi fish from jumping out of the pond as Koi tend to leap around a bit, the second thing it will do is to keep any unwanted pests and visitors at bay such as the neighbourhood cat, or insects and bacteria. The third thing that this netting will do is keep the pond safe, if you have young children then it will act as a barrier so that they will be less likely to fall in. it is important to cover your Koi fish pond especially if you have children or cats.

Koi fish ponds are quite popular with fish owners because not only are they quite simple to maintain, but they also have a very good ornamental quality. Koi fish ponds act as a water feature in your garden and because of the fish's wonderful colors and patterns they will be a joy for visitors to look at.
If you are thinking about keeping Koi fish or Koi fish ponds then you should alwa
ys do a little bit of research on the species of fish first so that you know exactly what they need to survive and to remain healthy and happy, as well as how you can maintain your Koi fish ponds to the highest of standards.

You can find valuable information on the internet, all you have to do is run a quick search and you will get dozens of helpful links and websites which will tell you everything that you ever wanted to know about Koi fish care and Koi fish ponds.

About the Author
If you would like more details on how to build koi fish ponds, then please go to this site that covers everything having to do with koi fish ponds.

Koi Pond Construction: The 5 Steps To a Perfect Koi Pond

Koi pond owners always aim for a perfect pond, and in order to achieve a perfect one, it should start with the pond itself. The pond should be made in a way that not only would it be pleasing to the eye, but it should also sustain your fish quite well. Here are the 5 steps you need to take in order to have a perfect pond.
1st Step: Set Up The Perfect Environment For Your Pond

The proper size, placement, and type of the pond is very important in the construction of your pond. When we talk about the size, remember this: the bigger, the better. The fish grows quite long in a fast rate, so the factors that you need to keep in mind are the pond size and also the number of fish that you're going to put into your pond.

It's a great idea to hire a professional to build your pond (unless of course if you are knowledgeable enough in fish keeping, outdoor landscaping and construction). Although you might think that building the pond yourself may save you a great deal of money, this could not be the case.

You see, if you haven't built your pond properly the from the start, chances are you'll end up spending quite a lot of money on giving remedies to problems that might come up in the future. Also, you might not be able to ensure the survival of your fish with an improper pond setup.

Keep in mind that professionals will always give what you want. They might give their own input in decision-making, but in the end, your decision will be the one that they're going to follow. So, you can't put a blame on them if your pond will fail in terms of size, location, and others. But just be on guard with those very cheap quotes, because they may cut corners that could cause potential problems in a later period. Although there are differences in quotes, there's really no significant variations between them.

2nd Step: Learn About Keeping The Fish When it comes to the topic of keeping the fish, it's truly an advantage for you if you have a lot of knowledge regarding the matter. Learn as much as you can about this kind of hobby before you get on with it. It's quite important to learn the necessary info yourself instead of getting inputs from other sources, such as your pond builder and product dealer (who have limited knowledge, and could be bias as they are selling their products too!). Also, these people won't be available to help you when you're going to experience some problems with your fish at home.

3rd Step: Purchase Your Pets

So now you have created your pond and the perfect environment for your fish. What you're going to do next is to buy your pets. Never purchase too much of them as they will grow great in length (about 2 to 3 feet long), and the they also breed almost on a yearly basis. Overpopulation will cause serious problems later for your pond and fish.

4th Step: Prevent Common Problems For Your Pond

To prevent pond problems, always make it a point that you put your new fish in quarantine before you put them into your current population. Watch out for illnesses such as KHV, as they show little or no symptoms at all.

Quarantining the new ones will help in reducing the risk and possibility of exposing your current population to harmful situations. Perform a weekly water testing, and this will help you to observe the differences in the test results before your pond will show symptoms of stress (which can save both your fish and your pond).

5th Step: Feed Your Pets

The feeding of your pets is considered to be one of the pleasing things as you have a perfect pond. Consult your dealer or local pet store about the amount of food that you should feed your pet. The feeding patterns will change with respect to temperature and season.

Treats such as veggies, fruit, bread, and others that you can buy from the store are good for them. The good thing about Koi is that it can be trained to feed from their owner's hand (this, however, might take a certain amount of time and patience).

Aesthetics
Recently, one of the most popular backyard designs is adding a water pond or a fish pond to the yard. These projects, however, can only be achieved in sprawling and huge yards that has walkways and large areas.

But if you are really certain to have your own fish pond and yet you do not have a large back yard, there are design ideas that can be incorporated to hopefully place your pond in it without having to take up too much space and dominate your yard.

Let your pond serve as the focal point of your back yard. Place it in the middle or in one corner of the yard if you have a small space. Make it appealing to the people walking around the house.

Location
If you wish to place it in the corner part of the yard, raise the pond a little higher so that the fish will seem as a surprise to the visitors. But if you want to place it in the center, it is best if you place the pond at ground level or a little above it.

Fish Types
Make sure that the fish you put inside are colorful and lively to attract attention. Watching the fishes swim around everyday can also serve to be therapeutic. But if you want to maintain a small pond, do not place large fishes such as the Japanese Koi. They may not live long in this kind of environment and they are also extremely expensive. Goldfish are compatible with the size of your pond, however, their longevity might not be a guaranteed in an outdoor pond.

Maintenance
Think how much you really want an outdoor pond and how you can maintain and build it depending on your preferences. You might find that maintaining an indoor aquarium is difficult enough, how much more an outdoor pond.

Consider the climate of your place. Water ponds and fish ponds are most applicable in tropical weather because of the advantage of the sun all year round. Some aquatic plants need to be exposed to the sun to grow. The plants and fishes may die if you let them stay in the pond during winter time. it is best to transfer them to an indoor tank if the weather is not applicable.
A fish pond in your own backyard only tells an individual how much energy, time, and money you are willing to devote to the beautification of your backyard. It does not matter how large or how small it is, it just goes to show that you appreciate beautiful things. You will not only impress a lot of people but yourself as well. A back yard fish pond brings a luxurious and relaxing feeling to the place.

In order to make your fish pond more appealing, decorate its surroundings. Landscaping the place will attract frogs and birds which can add to the overall natural feeling. If you cannot afford landscaping projects, hanging plants and flowering bushes will do. This will produce a great ambiance to your visitors and guests.

Having a fish pond is not a go-get-it-and-have-it project. You have to maintain and preserve its beauty time and again. Make sure to add water to it periodically. It is also important that you get rid of fallen leaves as this will cause decay and unpleasant appearance.

Lastly, consult your local pond professionals before building a pond yourself. Do not hesitate to ask questions as this will benefit the inhabitants of the pond.

About the Author
Want to find out about flounder fishing and bream fishing?

Just like everything else in life, building a farm pond takes, first getting the idea, planning, preparation, location the actual digging. After all the hard work we add our own personalities to the pond with needed equipment and accessories. Then finally nature will take over, but we can help with adding plants and fish.
Step 1 The Idea: When did building a farm pond become the idea? For some people it is just that they need water for the cattle. Others may have had a swimming pool and just are tired of taking care of it. Building a farm pond you can still swim, but also raise fish for food, fish for pets like a huge aquarium. Bring nature back to the property. And many more wonderful things

Step 2 Planning: Once the thought has come and you have decided to act upon that thought: You will need to check to see if you need a permit. Most important you should check with the neighbors. They may have concerns, like little children. And if you need a permit or meeting is required from the local government or state there will be a larger circle of neighbors involved. It is better to come from you than a letter in the mail.

Step 3 Finding the perfect spot: Building a farm pond will require a natural water source in order to fill and maintain the water level. This can be from under ground springs, small seeps, rain run off, or bypassing from a small stream. Is the spot located for your viewing pleasure and privacy, or displayed for everyone to see. A Lot depends on your use f the pond

Step 4 Preparation: Finding the best spot is great but not knowing if the ground will hold water in that location is some thing that needs to be found out. Do this by digging test holes to determine the subsoil structure in the pond location. Other preparations will include what type of farm pond is being built. There are two basic ways and a combination of, Dug, Dam or a little of both.

Step 5 Do it: Determine if building a farm pond is some thing you can do or want to do. Make the call to a couple excavating companies to get quotes and ideas from them. If you have the heavy equipment necessary to build the pond, still call and get some ideas or ask if they could walk you thru the process. Operating heavy equipment and building your own pond can be rewarding time, but the lack of experience and pond building know how will slow down the progress and if done improperly could lead to a failed pond.

Step 6 Accessories and needed equipment: Accessories, equipment, wiring and piping should be budgeted in at the beginning planning stage. The ponds best friend and the plants and fish are oxygen. Will the pond be near an electrical source to run pumps for waterfalls or fountains? The pond may be secluded enough that a windmill or solar power equipment may be necessary. Decks, docks, boat or kayak for entertainment should also be thought of.

Step 7 Adding life: Nature will provide life over time. This is your time to help get things started faster. Adding plants for color, shade and oxygen by adding lilies and depending on your location if they will be tropical or Hardy's. Adding game fish for fishing and Koi for their vibrant colors, your enjoyment and they help to keep the pond clean. But be careful they like to eat the plants. Frog's will come naturally within the first year. Other wildlife will find the pond too including bird's ducks and geese.

This goes to show there are steps in building a farm pond. Skipping any of them could create major damage, hassles, or a pond that is not very enjoyable.

Discus aquariums must be set up properly in advance of bringing your discus home. It is foolhardy to think that you will be able to buy the fish, and then setup the tank. In the long term, this is a failing and fish killing scenario. This article will explain what you can do today to prepare your aquarium for discus.
For filtration of discus aquariums, a cultured sponge filter will work well. If don't want to wait for the filter to culture naturally, consider using one of the bacterial starter cultures. Either choice will work fine, the important thing is that there isn't a lot of water flow, as calm water mimics the natural discus habitat.

Use a thin layer of fine gravel in the bottom of the tank. Bare bottom tanks also work fine, and are usually better for breeding. I like to use driftwood, floating plants and clay flowerpots filled with gravel and other suitable plants. Remember that the water temperature in discus aquariums is 80 degrees F or more, so be sure to choose compatible plants. A fluorescent strip light with one warm and one cool white bulb will provide enough light for the plants.

For a quarantine or hospital tank, I do not use gravel or any plants. If this is your first adventure into discus aquariums, the initial tank should essentially be built as a quarantine tank. In this case, the tank should have nothing other than water, filter, heater, and light. The reason for such Spartan accommodations is that you need to be able to observe your discus closely at first. They may want to hide, but it's better if you can see them clearly. Remember, you can always add the amenities later, after are sure your new fish are healthy. This quarantine period should last a minimum of 30 days. If you are adding new fish to an established discus aquarium, be sure to keep the new fish in a separate 10 gallon tank while you evaluate their health.

Discus aquariums need some advanced preparation in order to be successful. Most importantly, is ensure proper water quality and habitat. You also need to learn how to properly acclimate new discus to your aquarium. I encourage you to learn more about the specifics of setting up discus aquariums. Topics such as food, water chemistry, and choice of tank mates are all critical to your success. Good Luck!

About the Author

Do you want to discover the secrets of setting up discus aquariums the easy way? Some of the more exotic species live in the Indo-Pacific Ocean. What makes them exotic are the brightly colored bodies. The colors form spots or stripes across them and give them an exotic look. Because they are so exotic many people covet them as pets.
Food For Saltwater Angelfish

Saltwater Angelfish have a very unusual diet - but they can usually eat different kinds of plants and animal materials. Unlike most fish they prefer more then just the usual fish food that you can buy at your local grocery store in the size of small pellets. Instead they love things like jumbo krill freeze dried jumbo shrimp. This type of food are whole, freeze-dried shrimp and have a good source of protein, vitamin E, and fat.

For those of you who want to be more traditional with your fish can purchase the Flake Formula One Flakes for them. These flakes are made with extra algae and fresh seafood making it perfect for exotic fish. Even when you feed them this it is still good to feed them a source of live food like the shrimp.

Housing For Saltwater Angelfish

Angelfish can be very picky and territorial about their living space. They prefer to have as much as you can give them. Some species can grow to up to 16" so you should take this into account when looking for the right saltwater fish habitat. Unless you have purchased a pygmy angelfish you should make sure that the tank you buy is no less then 75 gallons.

Having a large saltwater fish habitat allows you to have other fish besides the Angelfish without them getting angry over their space. However, it is important to keep in mind that they can be territorial so do not be surprised if they kill off some of the other fish.

About the Author

SaltwaterFishCare.net is a great site that helps you to learn how to care for your saltwater fish. This will allow each koi the space they need to roam freely and so they won't overstrain their food system. Koi does not have a stomach instead a single vein extracts nutrients from the food as it passes through. Over feeding Koi is possible because, with no stomach, they do not they are full. The end result is an ammonia buildup in the water and will cause the pond to emmit a very bad stink or odor, not noticed in the outdoors due to natural exposure to air.

As well, when the coloring patterns of these decorated carp are shielded from natural sunlight it will cause their coloring to appear pale. Designs with windows and skylights can give some much needed sun, but of course nothing beats the real thing in keeping their coloring dazzling. Some koi foods with additive have been developed to help them with color maintenance, but these methods will not replace natural sunlight.

Making Your Koi Feel at Home in their Accommodations

With each indoor Koi ponds retaining about 900 liters of fresh water for each koi fish, a high quality filtering system will be required to keep the water sparkling and less odorous. But, it may be necessary to change the water often, with about 50% of the total amount changed 1 time a week. Additionally, a dehumidifier in the room will help reduce the dampness due to the open pond. The dampness can also add to the likelihood of mold growth and will have to be checked closely.

Some filtration filters are large and noisy and some businesses decide to place them away from main areas that are open by moving tubing full of water to and from the pond filters. Even with plenty of filtration procedures for indoor Koi ponds in position the need to modify the water will become apparent by inspection to see how filthy the water becomes and how bad the smell is for everyone. After a while cleaning and a water changing timetable can be established.

The area around indoor Koi ponds should be designed to keep the occasional jumping fish in the pond. In any case if one was to ever get out and nobody was to notice this would create a very embarrasing situation and not to mention a possible health issue.

For more tips and info about Indoor koi ponds please visit:
Koi Ponds Galore

About the Author

James Taylor writes regularly about gardening related topics.

What's the Big Deal with Pond Building ? The big deal with pond building is providing answers to the questions of why should I? Where will it be be dug? What are the benefits? Many variables of size, what type, and the purpose are covered. Why pond building has become popular over the years. What attracts us to water. The different tools and equipment used for pond building.
What are we humans mostly made up of ? Yes water. When we go on vacation, whether it be camping, sight seeing, or just heading to the beach. There is water involved. Camp grounds have swimming pools, sight seeing could have streams and rivers, but the hotel have swimming pools. The beach is a dead give away.

Why are we attracted to water? Water is the foundation of life with out it nothing could exist. We drink it daily, or should. But the attraction seems to be more nature orientated. This could be the waves lapping at the shore, the sun's reflection dancing on the water's surface. Smaller bodies of water such as a pond can generate sound by a fountain or water falling over rocks. So there is sight and sound, the other attraction is cooling off on a hot summer day or ice skating in the winter.

The big deal with building a pond. The big deal, How big to make it and what type of pond. It could be a water garden filled with plants, a gold fish pond that could be dug by hand. Invite family, neighbors and friends, arm them with shovels and have a great work day or weekend depending on the size of pond. Now if you are looking for a large pond that will need the use of heavy equipment, there still is the requirements of help. Picking up rocks for the pond edge, or waterfall. Then the opportunity to operate a dozer or backhoe to mold and shape the earth.
Health, mental and physical During the pond building using garden hand tools you'll get a very good work out and a good nights sleep. Okay maybe a little sore in the morning too. Operating a dozer or backhoe will also give a good work out, arms and legs operating control leavers, clutch and brakes. Getting on and off to take breaks and move rocks. Mentally your are constantly think where the next load of dirt goes, how much more do you need to dig down and visioning how it will look when completed.

The big deal. The pond building is done. The grass is growing. Aquatic plants and fish have been placed. Fountains and or waterfalls are running, display lighting lite. It is time to relax. For larger ponds build a floating dock, kick off to the middle, during the day catch some rays and at night gaze at the stars. This is very good stress reliever because you are in your own world no one can touch you here. The smaller back yard ponds, bring out the lawn chairs kick back and relax. Plan the pond near a deck or just add one. With the water flowing over the waterfall or fountain you will soon be in your own paradise.

The biggest mistake in pond building Plan your pond design carefully, lay out the shape with a garden hose or rocks. Ask your friends and family what they think. Is it located as a focal point that can be viewed from the house. Now the biggest mistake is, its never big enough. Once you have finished it is very difficult to to increase the size. Attract nature Nature provides the way to bring many different creatures to the pond. Yes some are unwanted such as bugs but overall the birds, deer and other wildlife are entertaining. Young birds that eat the bugs but have not mastered flight are very comical. Giving you some of the features and benefits of building a pond. Size and shapes are up to your imagination. Finding you what you don't know.

What Pond is a growing website, providing information on pond building. Helping people to be informed before starting the project or ponds already established.

In the summer, you'll be more likely to be in your garden in the evenings, enjoying your pond, watching the fish swimming lazily through the water. The heat of summer, however provides some challenges in maintaining your pond, and keeping the fish healthy. These tips will help you to keep the fish and the pond healthy.

Oxygen
Oxygen levels in your pond are essential if you have fish. When the water temperatures reach 90 degrees F., level of oxygen should be at least 7.0 ppm. You will start noticing signs of stress in the fish when the oxygen level drops to 4.0 ppm, and they will start dying at 3.0 ppm. The oxygen levels in the water will drop as the temperatures rise, so during the hottest part of the day, you should provide shade for the pond and the fish to keep the water temperatures down. Fountains, air stones, or other aerators will help to add oxygen to the water to keep the fish healthy.

Parasites
Parasites such as anchor worms, fish lice, flukes, and other parasites will increase in warm weather. Some of the symptoms will include thick mucous on the fish, rubbing against objects in the pond, jumping, and flashing. Visible parasites, like anchor worms, fish lice, and others can be treated with Dylox, Dipterex, and Masoten. For other parasite infections, you should consult a pond specialist for treatment. Be sure to tell them how the fish are behaving, and what the symptoms are. Follow the instructions on the label carefully to avoid killing off the fish as well as the parasites.

Feeding
As the weather, and the water temperature warms up, so will the metabolism of your fish, so you will need to feed them at different intervals than in cooler weather. Estimate the total body weight of the fish in the pond, then feed them 1%-1.5% of the total body weight in food, 5-8 times a day. Koi will digest their food faster in warmer weather than in cooler weather. When the weather gets warm, you should feed them about 5-8 times a day as opposed to 1-3 times a day in cooler weather.

Shade
If your pond gets direct sunlight during the day, especially during the hottest part of the day, you should provide shady areas for the fish to keep out of the sunlight, especially in shallow ponds. Water lilies, rocks, and other plants will provide shade for the fish. If you have to, you can also shade the pond with a beach umbrella. Just make sure that the fish have shelter from the direct sunlight to prevent them from getting sunburn. Shade will also help to prevent algae.

Evaporation
In warm weather, more water evaporates from the pond, especially with a large surface area. Monitor the level of the water daily, and add water to your pond as needed. Remember not to use water with chlorine if you have fish. You can buy water treatments that will remove chlorine from the water, or fill a few buckets, and let them sit overnight before adding it to your pond.
A pond does require quite a bit of attention in the summer. But by following these simple tips, you can keep the pond and its inhabitants healthy. And you'll get more enjoyment out of a healthy pond.

About the Author
Check out Water Gardens & Fountains for more pond care tips and resources.

To Buy Koi or Not To Buy Koi

Koi are unique in the fish world. Let's face it most fish you keep in an aquarium are pretty to look at, but as a pet, they're pretty passive. Koi, however, have personality and will actually interact with you. Once you buy Koi, they will steal your heart with their bright patterns, intelligence and friendliness.

Before you run out and buy one at the nearest fish store, there are a few things you need to do first. If you want your Koi to grow large enough to be impressive, you need a large outdoor pond. If you don't already have one, you'll need to look into building one and making sure that there is adequate filtration to keep your Koi happy and healthy. Make sure your Koi pond has hiding spots for your new Koi so they can avoid potential predators like Great Blue Herons and other predatory birds who fish. Other predators they will need protection from may include raccoons, snakes and kingfishers. You will also need to make sure your pond is safe from water runoff that may contain insecticides and herbicides. As your experience grows, you will learn to routinely test your water for chemical composition, since fish and food waste can convert to ammonia and other chemicals that are harmful to your Koi.

While your pond is being built and being readied for fish, learn about what Koi need to survive. Koi are known for their longevity. Are you prepared to care for these beautiful carp for 20 years or more? Yes, you read that right. Unlike most tropical fish in an aquarium, your Koi will live a long time, and may even outlive you in some circumstances! In 1965, a very large Koi was examined by a Japanese professor and was declared to be 215 years old, according to a study of its scales under a light microscope. Before you buy Koi, you need to know they require the right kind of high protein food. Feeding time is usually the Koi fancier's favorite time of day. Koi will learn to come up and eat from your hand. They may also do acrobatics and create a small feeding frenzy that can be very entertaining. Koi are able to taste, hear and smell quite well. They even blush when they are stressed, so they have a way of communicating with you when something is wrong.

Koi can not only make an interesting and unique pet, they can become a profitable hobby if you have the room. With enough space, Koi breed easily and those with good markings can bring in a pretty penny. There are many pattern classifications to describe these colorful fish and it can be lots of fun trying to identify the patterns your fish have. For serious hobbyists, there are shows where your brightly decorated carp can compete with others.

For most Koi enthusiasts, however it is enough to enjoy the capers of these smart, attractive fish and spoil their favorites with treats like watermelon rinds and spinach. Watching fish swim can actually help relieve everyday stress and strain. You'll soon find that koi are addictive and you'll look forward to your time out by the pond relaxing while you watch these captivating fish.

About the Author
If you are interested in buying Koi Fish, you can visit http://www.live-koifish.com.

Believe it or not, a well-constructed pond should take less maintenance than a lawn that is aerated, fertilized & mowed with any semblance of consistency. Why? Because the whole idea behind creating a great pond is the formation of an independent ecosystem...a self-sustaining habitat for both flora & fauna. If the groundwork is properly laid, there are only a few things to worry about to ensure that your koi or goldfish never go "Belly Up". Stick to these basic points of pond maintenance, and you should be able to enjoy your new ecosystem for many years to come.
One of the most important things you should concern yourself with is the water level. Evaporation is a natural aspect of any ecosystem, and it must be monitored weekly. Unlike a sea or lake of any kind of volume, your pond does not have the ability to hold as much water during the rainy seasons as it will lose during the dry seasons. Check the levels often & fill as needed to ensure a fresh infusing of water for the health and safety of all plant & animal life in your habitat. If your level has not dropped 10% in 3 weeks, pump some of your water out and add fresh water in. Be sure to add a dechlorinator to offset the amount chlorine that is in the new water. Follow the instructions of the specific product's packaging for optimal performance.

Next, check your pond for decaying plants and other debris that could "break down" at the bottom of your pond. This "break down" can release toxins that will harm, and even kill, your fish over time. Besides being unhealthy for your water features ecosystem, no one wants to gather around a pond that is full of rotting plants and algae all summer long. Take a few minutes and remove any thing that you find from the bottom of your pond at least every 2 weeks.
Finally, check your ponds filtering system every 5 weeks for clogs or other obstructions that would inhibit the proper flow of water. Remember, your filter should be running 24/7 with no interruptions, turning over the total water volume in about 2 hours. If it stops for even a few hours, it could lose a huge amount of its beneficial bacteria. To gain this back could take upwards of 4 weeks depending on what was lost! You will need to clean your filter as often as necessary to ensure a healthy ecosystem for your pond. The frequency will vary greatly depending on what type of filter you are using, and how large your pond is. Some mechanical filters will need to be cleaned monthly while a good biomechanical (mat based) filter may only need to be cleaned 2-3 times per year! The best way to know is to always check your water clarity! The less clear, the less filtration!

With a little bit of maintenance, a pond can become a wonderfully relaxing place for the entire family to enjoy. Follow these simple rules, with a little bit of consistency, and your pond will give you nothing but pleasure for many years to come.

About the Author
After being a student of the University of Oregon's Architecture & Allied Arts program, Joel Stephens began a 10-year journey in furniture design & manufacturing.

In order to keep your pond looking like a pond, it is necessary to have a pump. Without this vital piece of equipment, your lovely pond could turn into something resembling a marshland. Pond water pumps have the never ending task of taking care of all the water in a pond by circulating it every couple of hours, and filtering it as well. Water that doesn't move gets stagnant and sometimes develops a tell tail odor if allowed to stay that way for very long. Stagnant water is a favorite spot for mosquitoes to gather and raise their young. No one wants a large pond full of mosquito larvae, as they can spread diseases to man such as West Nile virus and Encephalitis. So, it stands to reason that you should try to use the very best pump you can find, not only to keep your pond looking good, but to prevent serious illness.

The size of the pump you get will depend on the size of your pond. Generally, a classic pump will have a gallons per hour rating of half of the total volume of the pond. So, a 5000 gallon pond will need a pump that will handle at least 5000 gallons per hour, or GPH in pump language. You should always purchase a pump that can handle the amount of water in your pond, and then some for best results. Keeping the water clear in your pond does not have to be a difficult undertaking.

Do it yourself pond owners as well as professionals who install ponds know that what they choose to pump pond water will also have a lot to do with whether or not the pond will develop algae. It is possible to have a pond that will not develop algae, as unbelievable as this may sound. Algae control is only difficult when you allow it to get out of hand. If you have a superb classic pump and filter and are watchful, algae will be one worry you will never have.

Custom pond pumps also have their place in the scheme of things. If there are fish in your pond, you might want to consider the purchase of a custom pond pump. Fish need oxygen in order to live and reproduce. The right pump will add plenty of oxygen so that your fish will thrive. You should also think about the type of motor that the pump you choose will have. The motor should be capable of running constantly, for if you turn off your pump, you run the risk of upsetting the natural biological balance, which can take some time to form.

Even the bodies of water that are located in your city use municipal pumps to keep the water clear and clean. No city that cares anything about what visitors to the area will think of their surroundings wants anything but a pond or fountain that looks pristine and inviting. Commercial pumps are really no different from the ones you would purchase for your own pond. The only real difference is that they are made from a material that is a little more durable. Classic Pumps are a lot more popular and in greater use than most people realize.

About the Author
Almost 15 years ago, Canfield Custom pumps designed and built the first dedicated floating pump system, Turbi-Float. The Turbi-Float answers your requests for a high performance floating pump system where ease of installation, reliability, and low maintenance are required.

Adding A Koi Pond To Your Home & Garden Bridges

Adding A Koi Pond To Your Home
One of the newest crazes that are catching on with homeowners is the koi pond. Koi ponds are in ground water gardens that contain koi fish and are deep enough to support life year round even in colder winter climates. Many homeowners are finding it to be a great addition to their front or backyard. The can add great scenery and a tranquil environment for you to relax in.

There are two different ways to add a koi pond to your home. First of all, you could call a landscaping company to add one for you. Many landscaping companies have added this to their list of services due to its popularity. This would be as simple as looking thru the yellow pages and calling landscaping companies to see if they offer this service and see what the prices are. Once their service is completed all you would have to do is add the fish that you choose.

The second way to add a koi pond to your home would be to install it yourself. This way will require a little more patience and dedication. You would first have to start with digging a hole for the pond. It is recommended that the hole is a least 4 feet deep and 4-5 feet wide. Then you would have to install your pond liner. You must install a liner or else you will risk getting debris into your pond from the ground. Then you need to install your filtration system. Flirtation systems can be tricky, so your best bet would be to go into your local pet shop and let them know your needs and dimensions of your pond. Your next step would be to add plants and vegetation to your pond. Types of plants and vegetation you should use depend on the type of climate you live in and can be researched online. Your final step would be to pick out your koi fish and add them to your pond.

Many people do not want this to be the last step in finishing their koi pond but instead add other decorative elements to their pond. These decorative elements can include decorative rocks, sculptures, and decorative redwood bridges which come in many different shapes and varieties. All of these items can be purchased online rather than fishing around at a local store for each item.

Both of these ways are good methods of adding a koi pond to your backyard. You just have to choose which method is best for you. Either way you do it, once your pond is complete it will be there for you to enjoy for years to come.

Contact infomation: 559-325-2597 Joe Guraro info@redwoodgardenbridges.com http://www.RedwoodGardenBridges.com
-------------------------------------------
About the Author
Building Quality handcrafted Redwood Garden Bridges at affordable prices for use in your garden, landscape yard, water garden or pond.

There are several types of food that will help you give your fish just the right amount of nutrients. This will allow the fish in the pond to grow to the perfect size and be as healthy as possible. All of these foods can be easily and affordably purchased. It is important that you find the perfect food for your pond fish, so that you can keep a healthy and well populated pond for seasons to come.

Nishikoi Pond Foods will provide them with the right balance of nutrients. You can get several types of food that are this brand. For instance, if you have mostly smaller fish and want to feed them more often, you can purchase the Nishikoi Staple Small Pellet. The Medium Pellet can be fed to slightly larger fish or slightly larger groups of fish. If you have many different types of fish in your pond, you may find they have different dietary needs, you can feed them the Nishikoi Pond Cocktail. This food can be good for all types.

There is also Tetra Pond Foods. These are made for regular goldfish and Koi. They come in several varieties, including Tetrapond Sticks, and Tetrapond Pellets. The Pellets come in either small or medium varieties. The sticks are good for long term feeding, or if you have larger fish who would like to eat more. The sticks also encourage socialisation among the fish. The pellets are for ones that need to eat their own food and again smaller pellets are fed to smaller fish more often, while medium pellets can be fed to larger fish, or with a longer time in between feedings.
For your Koi ponds, you want to be sure that you are feeding them the right types of foods. Laguna makes food that is for both goldfish and Koi. These foods can be good because often a pond will have several of both varieties and feeding one simple food can make matters easier for you. King British Pond Fish Foods also makes several varieties that are good for both these types. Again, this brand has floating sticks, which you can feed in your pond. They come in particularly useful if you are going away for a few days as you can leave several sticks on the water. The King British brand also includes variety foods, as well as the Ultimate Koi Food. These foods can be exactly what you are looking for when it comes to making sure that the fish in your pond are well fed.

Omega Pond Pelletsare also good foods because they are made especially for those that live in ponds. This means that the food is formulated to provide your them with the exact nutrients that they might need.

A good point to note! A very good food to have when you are expecting to go on holiday is Tetrapond holiday, this will provide your fish with all the nutrients they need whilst you are away. Also, Tetrapond has Wheatgerm Sticks that can help your fish to thrive.

About the Author
Derek Rogers is a freelance writer who represents a number of UK businesses. For information on fish food, he recommends Seapets, one of the UK's leading suppliers of fish food.

How To Make A Koi Pond

This article covers the basics on making a Koi pond. You will be able to plan and build a Koi pond with a circulating pump. You will also learn about the kind of bacteria Koi need to survive and how to make a bacteria containment system. You will learn how to line the bottom of the pond with plastic to keep the water from seeping.

We'll just start out by digging out the Koi pond. Most people like to have small waterfalls to keep the water circulating for the fish. If that's the case, you may want to stack some of the dirt taken from the Koi pond and make a sloping hill for the waterfall.

Once we have the hole dug out, we will need to put in a pond liner which is a plastic membrane made for this purpose. You can get pond liner kits online or at hardware stores.

Part of the pond construction will include a bacteria tank used to keep koi alive. Koi create a certain type of necessary bacteria which keeps the water conditioned for them. These tanks help that bacteria thrive.

Many landscapers will use the bacteria tank as a waterfall to run over rocks and down into the Koi pond. All ponds and waterfalls need a circulating pump. These come in many different sizes according to how high you need to pump the water and how fast you want the flow rate. The pump will need to be placed in the pond, but it needs to be off the bottom of the pond floor by an inch or two. This keeps the pump from sucking up sediment.

Rocks can be a beautiful part of any landscape pond. If you need to make a waterfall from rocks, you can use a rock adhesive/sealant to hold the rocks together. This also fills in holes really well. Natural rocks work the best, but if you're concerned about weight, you can get faux (artificial) rock.

Next, we can fill the pond to test it out for leaks. Once we know the pond holds water we can put all the extras in place to make it look nice. Plants and lilies are a great addition.

Plants can take awhile before they start to take hold and look healthy. We will need to wait for a few weeks before we put the Koi in. It's important to let the water circulate and build up some sediment.

Koi are such a tranquil feature to a landscaping project. They have become so popular recently. I think it's because the Koi are so tranquil when they're swimming around. They remind us to take life easy.

Larry Angell
make-my-own-house
About the Author
Larry Angell is the author of Sweat Equity, building a house at half cost.

Important Tips for Taking Care of Your Tropical Fish If you are one of the millions of Americans with a tropical fish aquarium or pond then chances are you are looking for ways to make sure your fish enjoy a long, healthy life. For the most part, tropical fish are easy to take care of and require very little additional care outside the basics. However, there are a few things you should know that can dramatically extend the lifespan of your tropical fish, no matter if they enjoy a small 3-gallon fishbowl or a 1,000-gallon aquarium.

The most important thing for freshwater fish is that you keep their habitat clean. Under normal circumstances, a filter will do the job just well. However, there are times when it can seem as though the tank or pond gets filled with algae or waste faster than you can keep it clean. This is often caused by a filtration device that is not sized correctly for the capacity of the tank. In most situations, you want your filter to completely clean the water every 4-6 hours.

This represents the equivalent of up to 4 complete cycles of the water in a 24-hour period. While you are checking out filters at your local store, be sure to also look into slugs and other creatures that can co-exist with your tropical fish and help clear out the algae. This is especially important in outdoor ponds or tanks where algae tend to grow faster due to direct exposure to sunlight. They are relatively cheap and do a great job that otherwise would be a manual task for you to complete! * Next, let's talk about food.

Now, you and I, well we tend to eat a lot - we are a society that loves our food! However, the same isn't the same for most tropical fish. In fact, in normal circumstances most varieties of tropical fish only need to be fed once or twice a week. The most common cause of death in household fish is over-feeding. Keep in mind that if you keep your fish in an outdoor pond that you may need to adjust the feeding schedule as the fish will also obtain food from nature - bugs and other flying insects that may make their way into the pond.

Finally, keep in mind that most fish enjoy a warm environment. If you live in a cold climate you should make sure that your tank or pond is equipped with a heating device so that during colder weather you can keep it at a steady temperature. The ideal temperature will vary for your particular variety of fish, but rarely should you let the temperature of the water dip below 75 degrees in most circumstances.

About the Author
The Author, Graham Wardle, offers tips and advice about the hobby of keeping fish both indoors and outside at http://beta-tropical-and-pond-fish-news.blogspot.com and also at http://tropicalpondandfreshwaterfishnews.blogspot.com

Buying A Pond Heater: Vital Considerations

Knowing what to opt for in buying a pond heater is vital to the success of your pond eco-system, and in this article we’ll look at exactly what must be taken into consideration. Whilst it may be important to speak to an expert in the area for a better idea of what’s best for your pond and the fish contained within it, there is still a great deal that can be done with a few steps in the right direction.

De-icer or heater?
One of the first questions you should consider when trying to buy a heater for your koi pond is whether or not you are looking to actually heat the pond, or rather just to prevent it from freezing over in the course of the winter months. The outcome of this will determine exactly which type of heater you need, and the implications thereafter for maintenance costs and the impact on the survival of your fish. Heating a pond is more difficult than de-icing, and will probably require some further reading and research to make sure you achieve both efficiency and optimum heat across the pond.

Cost of purchase?
The cost of a heater will determine whether or not it is the unit for you, but you shouldn’t let this overly cloud your view. Remember to take into consideration all the relevant factors before making your decision, including ongoing costs aside from the initial cost of purchase. Likewise some units may be cheaper than others, but this could be reflected in terms of the quality of the heater, and the need for ongoing care and repairs.

Heating costs?
Seldom seriously considered is the ongoing cost of heating a pond with your pond heater. As far as making your decision goes, you should take into account the fact that some heaters require far more electricity and energy than others, which can be reflected in increased operating costs. Additionally certain heaters will inevitably require more in the way of maintenance costs, which can also affect your choice of model.

About the Author
Kirk rogers: a thermodynamics engineer with 25 years experience, designing and developing heating systems. Heating Your Pond , Pond Calculators and Pond Heaters

Energy Efficient Pond Heaters: For Your Fish, The Environment And Your Wallet

Energy efficiency is something of a buzz word at the moment, particularly with the growing concern in scientific and academic circles around global warming and the irreversible changes occurring to the world in which we live. For many people, global warming might seem like something that is too distant, and something that one single person can have very little impact upon in their daily lives. However, few people realise that if we all adopt the attitude of making some minor changes in our lives, we can all save the planet, whilst saving ourselves money.
Pond heaters are no exception to this rule. Whatever the size and nature of your pond, it is often important to ensure you have adequate heating in place to protect your pond life and prevent your pond from freezing through in the winter and early spring, but many people feel upset about the potential cost implications of this necessary part of pond ownership. Let's face it, if you've got a pond heater you're going to increase your energy costs on a monthly basis. Yet it need not be as clear cut as that - there are ways in which you can make sure you save money on your heater without sacrificing the wellbeing of your pond.

If your pond needs to be heated for the benefit of your pond life, make sure you have a contingency source of heat in the event of a mechanical failure with your main unit. Too many people neglect to think about the potential for problems with their pond heater, particularly during the colder winter months, and investing now in an energy efficient unit as a backup may be a wise move for anyone who cares about the health and wellbeing of his pond.

More and more pond owners nationwide are falling for the benefits of energy efficient pond heaters, as their main source of heat or alternatively as a back up source in the event of an emergency situation. One of the best things about energy efficient heating is that it proactively saves you money, leaving you better off at the end of each billing cycle. As compared to standard heating units, and the energy they consume, the greater the efficiency, the less energy your backup unit will require. Ultimately that means that you could be saving a significant amount on your energy bill on an ongoing basis, whilst also doing your bit for the environment.

On a grander scale, energy efficient pond heaters as the name would imply require less energy to power them along, which means less electricity to be produced by polluting power stations, which is generally a good thing for the environment. At the same time, you'll directly feel the benefits on a reduced energy bill every month, creating an effective win/win situation. On that basis, it seems crazy not make the investment in energy efficient pond heating units sooner rather than later, with a view to helping your fish, the environment and your wallet.

About the Author
Kirk rogers: a thermodynamics engineer with 25 years experience, designing and developing heating systems. Heating Your Pond , Pond Calculators and Pond Heaters
