3 Good Online Business Situations When It Makes Sense To Use Paypal.

2012-05-14T09:22:00.000-07:00

Every day, a growing number of people venture into the world of online commerce, or ecommerce, in order to sell their goods and services online. When merchants first venture into the online realm, they can get in over their heads by using solutions that are too costly, too complex, or just have way too many features than what the merchants truly need.

The good news is that there are solutions that allow the first time online ecommerce merchant the opportunity to sell their products and services with much less committment and cost on the part of the merchant. Solutions such as Paypal offer the first time ecommerce merchant the opportunity to go into the online realm and get their feet wet without drowning. One must follow the standard safety precautions associated with solutions such as Paypal and they can be on their way to earning an online income.

The next section will go over what you the merchant, will need to consider if you think a payment processing system like Paypal will be work for you or not.

1. Low monthly business volume on your ecommerce website

If you don't have a lot of sales on your ecommerce site, and especially if they are low ticket items, then you may want to consider using a pay-as-you go type of merchant account system such as Paypal. Usually these types of payment processing solutions have a higher percentage rate that they charge the merchant. Sometimes it can be as high as 15% of the price of the item being sold by the online merchant.

Typical merchant accounts usually have a monthly charge associated with the account, whether you sell anything online or not. They also have a lower percentage rate they charge the merchant, so for higher volumes, the merchant will end up saving money with this solution.

When deciding what type of merchant account you should get, you will want to determine the costs associated with merchant processing based on estimated monthly sales volumes. For instance, if you expect to sell 15 items that cost $25 each on average, then determine how much a third party processor like Paypal would charge you for that, and then how much a standard merchant account processor would charge you for the month based upon the same volume. You will find that in going through this excercise, you will discover a break-even point at which you will pay less using a standard merchant account as opposed to the third party processor such as Paypal.

2. You are new to the whole ecommerce concept

If you are new to selling your product or service online (ecommerce), then it may make sense to use a 3rd party processor, such as Paypal to handle your online payments. This way, you aren't forced into any long term contracts, and can discontinue using it if your business isn't working. In most cases you can do this without having to continue to pay additional fees, such as a monthly service charge, to the this type of merchant account processor. With Paypal, it is easy to start up the online processing again without any additional costs, if you choose to give your online business another try.

3. You sell your items on Ebay

Ebay is one of the largest selling platforms on the Internet today. Ebay became so successful, they even purchased Paypal. Ebay does accept payments through other means besides Paypal, but they set it up so that it is easier to perform your transactions through Paypal than other methods.

If you are doing a huge number of transactions through Ebay, it may make more sense to use your own merchant processing account as you will save a lot of money. However the average Ebay seller usually doesn't have the volume to justify using their own online merchant account unless they are already using it for another online business.

Different needs for the ecommerce merchant require different solutions. By no means is there a "one size fits all" type of solution. Merchant processing solutions that work well for one online merchant, may spell disaster for another. The best thing an online merchant can do is to determine their expected sales volume, and their needs, and then find a solution that best serves them. For merchants who are new to ecommerce, and don't expect to generate a lot of volume, Paypal can be a good solution to get them started.

$1 Million in Google AdSense Earnings

2012-05-14T09:07:00.003-07:00

They are calling him the million dollar man. Jason Calacanis recently revealed in his blog that he is on track to earn a million dollars from AdSense over the year ahead.

And if that number doesn’t wake you up and have you sitting on the edge of your seat, consider for a moment that he reached this level in less than a year. His company only started using AdSense in September 2004.

Calacanis runs Weblogs Inc., a network dedicated to creating trade weblogs across niche industries. And he’s quickly proven that AdSense is a credible advertising partner.

As their network has grown, so has their AdSense revenue. In January 2005 they earned an average of $580 per day. In March it was $737. In May it was $1,585. One day in July, just before he made the blog entry referred to above, they earned $2,335. Remember that is just for one day. If they can take that daily average to $2,740 they’ll be earning a rate of $1 million for a year. And Calacanis predicts that reaching daily earnings of $3,000 or even $5,000 is quite achievable.

That’s quite an achievement. Keep in mind that Calacanis has 103 bloggers on the payroll and nine staffers. Even so, many webmasters would give an arm or a leg to have even a third of that.

Google’s AdSense has been revolutionary. It has become firmly established as the darling of the online advertising industry. Although rumors are heard of major competitors launching a similar service, AdSense’s premier position seems secure for now.

In essence, AdSense has made it possible for almost anyone with a web site or blog to earn some revenue from advertising, without having to employ sales people or spend precious time searching for advertisers.

AdSense works like this. Webmasters sign up for an account in just a few minutes. They receive a small snippet of code to include on their web pages. Google will then automatically serve advertisements that are relevant to the content on the webmaster's pages. When someone visits the webmaster's site and clicks on one of Google's AdSense advertisements, the webmaster earns a fee. Advertisers can pay anywhere from five cents to a hundred dollars per click, and the webmaster receives a percentage of that fee.

Many webmasters are content with earning five to ten dollars from AdSense to cover the cost of web hosting. But many, unsurprising, have higher ambitions. At a popular WebmasterWorld forum, participants share tips and encouragement on reaching a goal of $300 per day from AdSense. So it is no wonder that Calacanis created quite a buzz when he made his million dollar blog entry.

Google have proven once again that they excel at designing innovative Internet services. If you are in the web industry and have not yet used AdSense, then perhaps you should try it out. Or if you are already using it, perhaps Calacanis’ impressive results will encourage you to track the performance of your AdSense units more closely, fine tune their positions and formats, and take your earnings to a new level.

Before your valuable time and money are spent building a website and infrastructure, here's one way to test the waters of a new possible online market with very little work.

2012-05-14T09:03:00.001-07:00

You know information is valuable.
You know the Internet is a profitable venue for marketing information.
You think you may have a great idea or maybe even a product... Now what?

If you've done your research, you already have the right tools to start your online business. Namely, you know how to make a website (or if you don't know how, you know that you can learn how to do it easily or that you can hire someone else to do it for you) and you understand the mechanics of selling your product online (like signing up with a payment processor and getting visitors to go to your site).

But maybe you're afraid to start.

There's nothing wrong with being wary; in fact it's good business sense to know what you're getting into. A common statistic thrown around is that 9 out of 10 new businesses will fail within the first year. But knowing that doesn't mean it's time to quit before you even start. You have a product and therefore you have a target market; it's useful, even necessary, and most certainly comforting to your beginner's brain to do your own research and due diligence.

One method of practicing your business before actually going it alone is to become an affiliate. Using an affiliate program to enter a new market allows you test out your ideas and hone them with the ultimate goal of creating and promoting your own product. (In summary, for you beginners out there, affiliate marketing is the process of earning a commission off of purchases made by visitors who arrived at that particular product's site by clicking on a link on your webpage).

An advantage of affiliate marketing is that your only concern is driving visitors to their site; the affiliate program will worry about having the perfect product, providing customer service, and delivering the product. Affiliate programs may even provide you with banners or free e-books and techniques showing you how to promote them. This will provide a good learning ground for you so that you can garner ideas for eventually promoting your own product.

Find some affiliate programs related to your particular idea or product. The research you'll derive from joining an affiliate program will be the real benefit. By setting up a website or a few websites testing out your various ideas and promoting these ideas, you can then sit back and see what happens. Hopefully you'll start making money. Then you can see which products are really selling and what marketing techniques are working. As you work on improving your website for the products that are selling, you're laying the groundwork for selling your own product. You can then feel more comfortable about your own venture using the successful techniques you learned through this "practice" attempt.

And maybe starting your own business won't look as scary.

"Manufacturers are beginning to approach me to review their hair products and tools on the site. "Hi, can we send you some free stuff?"... "Um, YEAH, okay!"

"New challenges are presenting themselves now that my site is poised for takeoff."

My mom became interested in SBI! about a year after I started my first site. Since then she's been working on her own sites which are now bringing in a nice monthly income for her. Many people ask me about how I earn a living. They're all curious... lots of questions and a sparkle in their eye as they think about how they could do it too... and they could! In truth though, most of them don't. So seeing my mom go ahead and create her own success is incredible!"

"My 7 year old son (who has a strong entrepreneurial streak) is showing a keen interest in starting a site of his own at some point. What an incredible thing it will be to show my son how to build an online business!"

"My online success means so much more to me than money. The fulfillment I feel in my own life and the example I'm setting for my kids far outweighs the dollars (although dollars will always be welcome!). ;-) My boys are growing up with the knowledge that they really can achieve their dreams if they're willing to have faith in themselves and take action in their lives. Then all it takes is some dedication and hard work, which is easy to muster when you're doing something you love! ... Oh yeah, and SBI! of course."

"I've said it before, and I'll most definitely keep saying it... Thank you Ken, for what you do and the way you care. I'm sure (with a bit of struggling) I could have gotten a website online without SBI! but there's a spirit to the SBI!! community that takes the journey to a whole new level. Not just in terms of the site you create, but who you become and the LIFE you create in the process."

"With the addition of Content 2.0 (which allows visitors to contribute pages and comments), my page count has increased by nearly 300 pages within the past six months. That's not including the articles I've written and added to the site. Traffic is strong and my rankings are always improving."

"My income continues to grow along with my passion for this business I'm building. Some recent additions to SBI!s functionality have made it possible for me to take the business in exciting new directions."

"I work on my site(s) every day. Okay... not every day. After all, I can take time off whenever I feel like it, which is good, because we get a lot of company these days! During those times I limit my "work" to checking stats and income and answering the odd email. But when the visiting is over, I truly can't wait to get back to work."

"The fulfillment I feel in my own life and the example I'm setting for my kids far outweighs the dollars."

"I no longer work from home in the evenings and my income is constantly growing. Right now, it's double what I was making when I was standing behind a chair... I do what needs to be done the most at any given time and the nature of website building is such that I can stop or take a break at any point and carry on when time allows. I can work in my pyjamas and fuzzy slippers and switch from work mode to mommy/caretaker to silly dance partner whenever the mood strikes."

"Six months after my site went live, I received an email from the Editor-In-Chief of a publishing house in New York wanting to know if I'd be interested in writing articles for their hair magazines."

"The irony of it still makes me chuckle...within 6 months of starting my SBI! journey, I was in the enviable position of having them approach me! And to think a year prior, I'd been laboring over a proposal, hoping a publisher might give it a second glance and find my idea worthy."

"It's been over a year now since I started my first website, which ranks within the top 1% of sites on the net and receives up to 1500 visitors per day. I now have a second site, and plans for a third before the summer of this year. I no longer work from home in the evenings and my income is constantly growing. Right now, it's double what I was making when I was standing behind a chair."

"A wholehearted "Thank You" to SBI!. Perhaps it seems weird to thank a computer program, but SBI!! is not some technically run corporate group with invisible leaders. It's really a down to earth company run by a fatherly CEO, bringing a global family of like-minded people together in success and freedom."

"I feel so fortunate to be a part of it and I suppose I'd be considered "one of the lucky ones," living the best of both worlds... at home to raise my kids, giving them the gift of always being there for them, while running a successful business at the same time. Passion, freedom and fulfillment... does it get any better?!"

Testimonials from Elad Shippony

2012-05-05T21:06:00.000-07:00

"Tamar and I did lots and lots of research on kid birthday parties and started experimenting with our ideas on kids and during parties whenever the opportunity arose.

We wrote up lots of content for the site and I was in charge of strategy and building the site from a technical aspect (although, with SBI!!, you really don't need any technical knowledge because you can build a site through simple building blocks and monitor every aspect of traffic through a consolidated control center.).

In no time, both of us became kid birthday junkies."

"My goal was to build an online business that would generate an income equal (or greater, of course) to the salary I was earning. And also wouldn't be dependant on any country's economy (as my country's economy is in shambles...)."

My Traffic Is Going Through The Roof!

2012-05-04T06:36:00.000-07:00

From www.revolutionary-war-and-beyond.com

You know this SBI thing is pretty remarkable... I have broken my all time traffic record every day for the last four days - Monday: 8001, Tuesday: 8260, Wednesday: 8653, Thursday: 9524!!! I can hardly believe it!

That's almost 10,000 visitors in one day! I am probably going to hit one million unique visitors for this year by the end of the year! Wow! The whole snowball thing is getting out of control here! I am averaging more than twice what I was at this time last year.

I mostly attribute it to 3 things:

Following the Action Guide from the start,
Writing good content and
Because of the good content I am ranked high in the search engines for a lot of terms. This traffic has also made my adsense skyrocket. I broke $100 a day for the first time... and I did it three times in the last week!! Whoo hoo!! I would KISS that elf if I could find him!
