Blogs are mushrooming at the speed of light in this day and age. For this reason, creating a blogging effort for your company can be extremely profitable and rewarding for your company. There is no real start up fees or set up fees that are needed, and starting a blog is quick and easy in most cases with so many free templates and ideas out there. The real key to creating a corporate blog and advancing your corporate blog effort is marketing your blog well, increasing your reader base consistently and effectively so that marketing your products, services and company will allow you to reach out to a large number of people all at once. Here are 8 key ways to create and advance a corporate blogging effort.

1 – The first step is simply to get started.

If you have no place to start, choose a free blog hosting service and begin there. Free blogging services are not the most ideal destinations for corporate blogs, but they do provide a sturdy foundation from which to build your corporate blog if you are just getting started.

2 – Choose a topic of focus that you are interested in, that you know about, and that you can write passionately on.

The topic that you choose is going to influence the keywords that you focus on, which will influence how search engines and searchers will find you on the internet.

3 – Update your blog every single day in order to make sure that search engine spiders and crawlers are constantly on the look out for your blog and its newest information.

Blogs that are updated daily are much more appealing to most readers, as they show that you are serious about the endeavor. If you do not update often enough, your blog will simply fall off the radar.

4 – In order to make a profit from your blog, you need to be able to generate a strong and powerful reader base as early as possible.

If you do not have enough people reading your blog, most advertisers will not want to work with you. Market your blog through every possible method to gain link popularity and a higher page rank for an increase in readership and advertising opportunities.

5 – Make sure that you are making an effort to keep track of site traffic.

This way you can determine your popularity online rather than giving up on your marketing effort. Analyze your traffic and you will better understand your strong points and your weak points.

6 – Do all that you can to gain an insight over what keywords are being searched for, and how people are or are not finding your blog.

Utilize your keywords right and you will have people coming back for more.

7 – Make your online presence even stronger by managing a network of sites or blogs on the same subject, but with different content.

8 – With each blog that you create, use a topic that will allow you to connect to your audience.

Keep your content short, easy to read and interesting and you will have an easier time interacting with your audience.

When you first start your corporate blog, it can be pretty exciting. You’re all charged up about the benefits you’re going to be reaping and the sales you’ll be making. After a few weeks of this however, this newness tends to wear off. If you didn’t luck out and gain instant success with your blog, it can feel like it’s just you and the crickets. While no one wants to waste time and resources, it is important to give your corporate blog enough of a chance to make it, and that means sticking with it, even though you may be completely fed up. Here are some tips to keep you going.

1. Set up a posting schedule and stick to it every day.

Once it becomes routine, and you realize that posting really only takes a few minutes, it is easier to keep the habit. Try making your morning coffee time your corporate blog time too, or find ways to combine your posting time with something that you enjoy. If necessary, set up a reward system so that you treat yourself for every post you make. Your blog won’t stand a chance if you abandon it, so you’ve got to keep at it until something happens.

2. Set realistic expectations.

Very few blogs make it overnight, and less than 2% of all blogs are actually runaway hits. It is vital to go into this project knowing that the returns may be smaller than you expect. You will need to give your blog at least six months to develop a steady audience. If after that time you have not seen any measurable results, it will be time to reevaluate your options. Until then however, stick with it.

3. Find new ways to get excited about posting.

Every single post you make on your corporate blog does not need to be a well thought out missive. Try putting up polls instead, or reference an interesting article that you saw. By finding new things to talk about that are related to your industry, you can keep that forward momentum going.

4. Put a face on your audience.

Corporate blogging is all about putting a personal face on your business, but this works both ways. It can be pretty difficult to get excited about posting when you feel like you are talking to a brick wall. To keep your energy up, imagine that you are writing to a friend. Envision this person and write your posts as though you were having a conversation with them.

This has the added benefit of making your posts more reader-friendly and more engaging. Try it and see if you don’t notice a difference in your attitude.

5. Don’t set yourself up to fail.

If you find yourself grumbling about “no one is going to read it anyway,” stop right there. Defeatist talk will only get you defeat. You’ll need to keep a positive approach going and give yourself time to succeed. It will happen, if you apply yourself.

In many people’s opinion, organic traffic is the best. It’s free, it’s targeted and nine times out of ten, you’ll get a much better response, whether it’s for a company promotion, getting readers to your blog and building up solid relationships. Let’s take a look at just a few easy ways that you can start taking advantage of organic traffic and visitors, right now.

The first step is to make sure that your blog is fully optimized. One of the best platforms for quick indexing is WordPress, but depending on your content, it may not work quite well enough for you. Once you have your SEO portion of your campaign completed, you will need to keep going, making small changes, testing conversion rates and seeing just how much traffic your efforts are bringing in.

This optimization should extend not only to your content, but also to your post titles, headers, image alt-links, and literally everything else on your site. If you want a lot of organic traffic and you are in a competitive niche, you’ll need to go all out to make sure that you are getting the results you want.

Now, once you have your corporate blog fully optimized, it’s time to think about what you are actually going to be writing and whether or not it will help you increase the amount of organic visitors to your site. While placing keywords in your post is important, it should never outweigh good content that people can actually use, learn from and connect with.

Good content gets around, and that means more organic visitors for you. Word of mouth is still one of the most popular and profitable forms of advertising and there is no reason that your corporate blog cannot benefit. Since you’re not paying for these visitors through PPC ads or other means, you’re getting a chance to actually develop a relationship with your visitors and that all important motivation to keep going.

Promote your RSS feed. One of the easiest ways to get backlinks to your site, and to increase awareness about your products is through an RSS feed. Whenever you post on your corporate blog, take the time to ping your feed using a service like Pingomatic, or Pingoat. These will submit your RSS feed to numerous places and you can easily start to see results right away. As a bonus, indexed RSS content can be picked up by search engine spiders very quickly.

So, now you have your corporate blog optimized, you’re starting to develop relationships with your readers and you are getting your feet wet with RSS promotion. It may take a few tries to get results, but if you can stick with it, chances are you’ll start to notice a big increase in the amount of your daily traffic.

Try a few methods today to help you get more organic visitors and see how well the techniques work for you. With a little hard work, and smart promotional tips, you can get noticed by your audience.

One of the best ways to raise morale is through an internal newspaper that keeps employees appraised on what is going on with the company. They foster a sense of belonging, especially if you cover employee birthdays, events and special happenings within the office. However, if your resources are a bit strapped, you may not have the time to put together a special publication. Print costs are not cheap, and it can be quite time intensive to publish a newspaper each month.

In order to get the benefits that a company newspaper can bring, without the downsides, you can begin to use your corporate blog to fill this position. By including your employees in your blog’s news, they will feel more a part of the company and they will want to share the posts with their friends. Everyone likes feeling like a star, and a blog is a great way to share news, promote friendly competition among employees and keep everyone updated.

Before you jump in and start making your corporate blog into an internal newspaper, there are a few things that you should remember:

1. Ask before using last names.

A lot of people prefer not to have their full names splashed all over the internet. You may not realize it, but if other sites are including your RSS feed, your posts are appearing all over the internet. Always ask permission to use an employee’s last name, or err on the side of caution and use first names only, or their first name and last initial. They will know who you are talking about, but your readers won’t. In today’s environment of identity theft and cyber stalking, last names should be avoided.

2. Always remain professional.

Sure, it’s a fun company newspaper, but the general public will have access to it. Unless you are going to password protect the posts for your internal news, you will need to keep that veneer of professionalism up at all times. It’s one thing to be lighthearted and fun, it’s quite another to veer towards being unprofessional. If something has the potential to be spun in a way that is negative towards your company, don’t publish it.

3. Be wary of posting photographs.

A lot of companies like to use photographs on their blogs to let the public know that there are real people working for the company. This is terrific, but you should always remember point one above. Never use last names to identify people in a photo. The public doesn’t really need full disclosure, they’ll be able to see the real people – they don’t need their names. Again, with the threats to people’s safety, it is best to err on the side of caution.

These are just a few things to remember before adding this option to your corporate blog. Remember, if you don’t want the public to know something about your company – don’t write it! Always keep the fact that news can be twisted in front of you while you are writing your blog.

Business blogging is rife with benefits for anyone who is able to utilize it properly, as it adds a significant amount of value to a company’s web presence, increasing search engine visibility and encouraging excellent and meaningful interaction from readers, driving an increase of traffic to your website in the process. However it is important to keep in mind that blogging for business is not always easy, because writer’s block does happen, especially when you do not want it to. This is a continuation to our list on ideas for creating blogging content for your corporate blog.

6 – Theme.

Create a series of blog entries that focuses on some kind of theme that is relevant to your business. For example, write about the “Top 10 Reasons…” or “15 Steps To…” or “10 Things You Should…” and make each of these items a separate post in your blog. This is also the kind of blog entry that will get a lot of links from other bloggers all over the internet, which will send extra traffic in your direction if you let it.

7 -Put it on paper.

When you really need to brainstorm for ideas, take out a piece of paper and start putting ideas down on paper. Write down information on your products and your services, and then write down different ways that those products and services can potentially solve the problems of your readers. Jot down some of the best features and benefits for your services and products, writing freely rather than necessarily editing yourself, and by the time you are done you will have a bunch of new blog entry ideas.

8 -Interviews.

Conduct an interview of someone in your company or industry in Q & A format on your blog. Reach out to experts in some field that is related to your company, inviting them to do an online interview through e-mail. When you get answers back from the interviewee, you can publish the entire interview into a blog entry.

9 -What are they doing?

Consider looking to other bloggers in your industry in search of blog content ideas and blog content inspiration. What are other bloggers talking about in your niche or industry? What topics seem to be the most popular or the most talked about in your niche or industry? Read other blogs, visit forums and conduct as much research as you can in order to stay current on what is hot and happening in your industry.

10 – Google News.

Head to Google News (http://news.google.com) and do a search for the keywords and key phrases that are related to your business. This will bring up all kinds of interesting new content including news articles, press releases and other content that will provide an excellent resource for blog entry ideas and guidance for content writing.

With these tips for content creation, you will find it difficult to run out of blog topics to write about in your corporate blog.

There is a lot of controversy over which blogging platform is ideal for corporate blogs. With so many schools of thought on the matter, it can be difficult to figure out which one you should be using. We have two main favorites, Blogger and WordPress, and both are very well suited to corporate blogging.

The two main benefits of both of these platforms is that they are incredibly easy to use, and incredibly search engine friendly. That solves a lot of problems right there. While we typically don’t recommend free services for corporate blogging, now that Blogger allows you to attach your own URL to your Blogger account, they’ve moved up in our estimation.

Basically, if you don’t want to go through the trouble of using server space for your corporate blog and you need a publishing platform that is literally idiot proof, then Blogger is ideal. It has many of the same features as WordPress, and since it is owned by Google, you’ll have a pretty good chance of getting a good ranking as long as you keep publishing quality content.

For corporate blog owners that need a little more control, WordPress is our natural favorite. There are thousands of customization options that are available and it is very easy to get started. With the right plugins, you can make a very advanced site without breaking a sweat, and you’ll be optimizing your content at the same time.

While there are other platforms that work well for corporate blogs, we really prefer WordPress for two main reasons:

1. Smaller learning curve.

WordPress takes less than five minutes to install, even if you have no prior experience. Everything is spelled out for you in the dashboard for your site and publishing is incredibly easy. With the right configuration you can easily build a very popular corporate blog without any effort.

2. More options for optimization.

There are thousands of plugins for WordPress that are designed to help you manage comments, optimize your content, take advantage of SEO trends, and keep everything running smoothly. These are all easy to install and use and most require very little interaction on your part.

The bottom line is that not everyone can afford to hire a web designer or programmer. Either one of these solutions is absolutely free to use and in most cases, they are more capable than the platforms that actually do cost money. For those that need to get a quick start and do not have the time to learn HTML, PHP coding and basic blogging set-up, you can’t go wrong with either of these platforms.

Try setting up a sample account on Blogger, or install WordPress on your own server and play around with them for a few minutes. Chances are you’ll be able to get the hang of it immediately and you will be well on your way to becoming the owner of a successful corporate blog that is completely tricked out and reader friendly.

Sometimes it can be pretty tough to get inspiration for a new corporate blog. You may understand that you need one, but you’re not quite sure where to start. There’s an easy way that you can put together a plan for your own blog and it will only take a few minutes of your time. Anyone can do this and it can make a big difference in how well your blog does.

First, start by making a list of all of your competitors. Find the ones that have blogs and make an effort to go to their sites and read every single post they have made. You’ll be getting some pretty powerful information and you’ll be getting some ideas on what you should be doing and what you should be avoiding. Once you’ve compared all of them, you’ll have the groundwork to start building your own blog.

1. Look at how they write their blog.

Although everyone has to find their own voice, sometimes it helps if you can see what other people are doing. Look to see which blogs are quite personable and which ones are stiff. Chances are the personable ones are the most popular. Learn from these techniques and study to see how your competitors manage to be engaging without crossing the line into unprofessionalism.

2. Find out how they promote their blog.

Are your competitors relying on organic results, or are they actively promoting their blog? Look to see the types of advertising they may be using and which social bookmarking sites that are using to drum up new readers. You can then adapt these methods to your own needs. It may take a little trial and error but you can learn a lot from what they are doing.

3. Find out how they rank in search engines.

Pick one post and see if you can get it to come up by searching for the keywords contained in it. If you can’t then that blogger is not doing a good job with their corporate blog. If you can easily find them, emulate the techniques that they are using to help increase your chances of getting listed in the top 10 for search results.

4. Look at what you could do better.

Take an honest and hard look at your competitors. See which ones are using techniques that work and then come up with a plan that will improve those results. Look at sites that may not be as strong and learn from them – avoid what they are doing since it is not working for them and chances are it won’t work for you either.

A blog management company can help you craft a plan that will ensure your blogging success. Sometimes, it is better to get help from a professional so that you can ensure you’ll be able to meet your goals with a lot less effort and you won’t have to spend as much time.

If you are completely new to blogging, you may find that you have a lot of questions and at times, it can be hard to find the answers. We’ve compiled the most common issues facing new corporate bloggers and supplied the answers to these problems below.

1. Is this going to make my company more profitable?

Yes and no. It is important that you go into corporate blogging with the right mindset. Yes, it can be a very powerful means of promotion, but it’s going to take a lot of time and success will not happen overnight. The main reason that most companies get into corporate blogging is not to increase sales directly, but to improve their search engine rankings. Often, the result of a better ranking is more sales, but you should not view your corporate blog as a mythical tool that will rake in millions of dollars in sales.

2. What blogging platform should I use?

This is a tougher question because the answer is a bit nebulous. Everyone is going to have their preference, but overall, the most powerful and customizable platform has to be WordPress. You’ll have two main options with WordPress. First, you can set up an account on WordPress.com, where they will host and install your blog for you, or you can download a free copy at WordPress.org and install it on your own server.

For those that don’t have a lot of experience, the hosted version works quite well, despite its limitations. For those that need more options with plugins and configuration, installing it at the server level is the best option.

3. How do I promote my blog?

Once again, there is no set answer to this question, but there are several techniques that can be used successfully. First, you’ve got to make your blog easy to find on your own corporate site. Next, you’ll need to start promoting it in two different ways, directly and indirectly.

Direct promotion involves submitting your blog posts to social bookmarking and networking sites. Indirect promotion involves leaving comments on other blogs and leaving a link to your own blog inside. This should be used in moderation and your comments should always be related to the post and not blatant promotional attempts.

4. Is corporate blogging worth the effort?

Absolutely, but only if you are willing to spend extra time promoting your blog. If not, then it is a waste of your time. A good corporate blog will take a few months to catch on and you’ve got to be willing to take the time to really work on creating great posts and promoting them. Success is not going to happen instantly, and it will take work. However, you can see a big difference in your main site’s traffic and in public opinion when you really work on your blog.

Corporate blogging is not for everyone. If you’re interested in getting started, it is best to remember that it will take a lot of time and effort. For those willing to make that sacrifice, success is just around the corner.

There are actually a couple of different ways that you can effectively gauge traffic to your corporate blog, each giving different answers and filling in a slightly larger piece of the puzzle. If you are writing in a corporate blog and you want to get a good feel for how much traffic you are getting, consider the following:

- Use tools like Sitemeter to track how many visitors actually land on your site.

You place a small image on your webpage, and it tracks information about your visitors as they come to your website. Not only will Sitemeter let you know how many users have come to your website or corporate blog, but it will also tell you where they came from, where they live, how long they stayed, which pages they visited specifically, how long they stayed on each page, and finally, where they went once they left. This is a great little utility if you want to see where your traffic is coming from, where it is going, and how long it is visiting your website in the middle.

- Another way to gauge traffic to your corporate blog is through comments.

How many people are commenting on your blog entries? Not only is this going to tell you how many people are visiting your blog, but it is also going to tell you how many people found your blog entry interesting enough to leave a comment. If you are not getting many comments, you either are not getting enough visitors, or you are not interesting enough visitors to garner comments from them.

- Trackbacks and links are another way to gauge traffic to your corporate blog.

Are people linking to your blog entries? Are they talking about your blog entries elsewhere on the net? Not only does this give you a good idea of how many people are visiting your corporate blog on an average basis, but it is also telling you what your readers have found to be interesting, noteworthy or worth passing on, as well as why. If you want to get a good idea of whether or not you are posting the right topics and subjects for your potential readers, keep track of who is linking to you or talking about your corporate blog elsewhere on the internet, and take their suggestions seriously to improve your capabilities as a corporate blogger.

If you combine all three of these methods for gauging traffic to your corporate blog then you should have no difficulties getting a fairly decent idea not only of how many people are visiting, but also where they are coming from, what they are coming for, what they are reading and where they go once they leave. The key here is to take this information and use it to your advantage to improve your corporate blog and gain more readership over time.

Most people understand the basics when it comes to blogging or corporate blogging, but unless you have been trained in SEO, you probably do not understand what goes on behind the scenes. For example, are you aware of how backlinks are vital to the success of your corporate blog? If you are wondering how backlinks are going to benefit your corporate blog, and more importantly, how you can get the most out of them, keep reading:

The first thing that you need to understand is what a back link is. Any time a link is created to your corporate blog from another blog or website, you have a back link. Google and other search engines look at these back links as a testament to the effectiveness of your blog, because if other websites and blogs are linking to yours, then yours must have value of some sort. In other words, if you want your blog to build up popularity in the highest ranking search engines, you need to find ways to have links created to your blog from other places across the internet.

There are essentially a couple of different ways to create back links to your website, all of which can benefit your corporate blog.

1 – Link exchanges build back links.

Strike deals with other bloggers in your niche or industry. If you link to them in your blog or on your website, they will link to you in exchange. The more popular their websites are the more important and vital these links will be.

2 – Link to your own blog entries elsewhere.

Comment in other blogs in your industry and post a link back to your blog. Submit articles to submission sites with a link back to your blog. The more links that you create that point back to your blog, the higher your search engine page rank is going to be when Google finds these links and then connects them back to your website.

3 – Create links to your blog from your website, and then to your blog from your website.

Every link to your blog is a valuable back link, even though some back links are not as valuable as other. Google and other search engines do actually count how many links are pointing to your website as a reference for how popular your website is, and how valuable your content is. When Google sees a large number of links pointing to your corporate blog, especially when they come from a wide variety of different websites, that is how the search engine will know that your corporate blog is providing high quality content that offers value to other people on the internet.

4 – By offering valuable content, other readers and bloggers will naturally find and link to your content.

The more value you provide, the more other bloggers will want to talk about your blog.

In other words, if you want search engines to acknowledge that your corporate blog offers value, you need to build back links.
