I finally got my St. Patrick's Day decor up. I decided to try and decorate with things I had around the house and not spend any money...and I did it! It was a fun little challenge.

I am loving my Silhouette! It makes decorating so fun and easy! I love that it does vinyl and card stock...and so many other things.

I love how my subway art turned out too. It's nice to have a variety of things.

The bouquet of shamrocks were also cut with my Silhouette. It's so fun!

"Healthy" Peanut Butter Cookies

Hi! My name is Shayla and I am addicted to sugar. I know I'm not the only that struggles with this and I have decided I can overcome it! Solution...healthy alternatives. Sort of. I'm starting slow and hoping to become good a substituting. We'll see how it goes.

Here is my first attempt....peanut butter cookies. I have been craving cookies-more specifically cookie dough-a lot this week. A co-worker of mine told me of a clean chocolate chip recipe she tried so I decided to try my hand at creating a somewhat "clean" cookie recipe. I'm not 100% sure of what it takes for a recipe to be clean but hopefully this counts.

1 c. peanut butter

1 egg

2 Tbsp. butter

1/2 c. honey

1 1/4 c. oat flour

1/4 tsp. salt

3/4 tsp. baking soda

1/2 tsp. baking powder

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Mix peanut butter, egg, butter and honey until smooth. Add remaining remaining ingredients and mix until well blended. Scoop onto a cookie sheet. Using a fork create a criss-cross pattern and bake for 8-10 minutes.

Makes about 32 cookies.

**for the oat flour I just used my magic bullet and old fashioned oats...worked great!

Here's a quick tutorial for the oh so fun "Exploding Love Box"! I saw this love box and wanted to try it for myself. Since I used different paper and accessories I thought I would share it here. For more details instructions head over to Glitter Adventure.

For the box I have 3 12x12 papers. I cut down two of them so they layer well.

Next I cut out the corners and scored the center square to make it easier to fold. Then glue the center squares together.

I love a variety of colors so I chose these to go inside. I didn't put printed paper on each square because I wanted to add pictures on the blank squares.

I didn't take a picture of the finished pages but I had pictures on some squares, quotes, and my own little thoughts and thanks. My son even scribbled his own little notes...can't get much better than that!

Make your lid, decorate and ta-da...a super cute box of love and appreciation!

There really is so much you can do for those you love and appreciate in your life....so let them know every once in a while...they will love it!!!

St. Patrick's Day is a holiday that is a little forgotten at my house. This year I decided to try and be more festive and make this holiday a fun occasion! Hopefully I can do. I have big plans for breakfast the day of...oh just wait and see!!! :)

To kick of the decorations I started with this cute little subway art. I L.O.V.E subway art. I have some for each holiday! ...a little obsessive... perhaps! But they are so fun and add a different element in the decorating scheme of things. Can't wait to see how the other pieces turn out!

The holiday of Love sure came fast this year...

But I did get to decorate and enjoy this fun holiday

I made the love blocks at a girls craft with my mom and sisters...SO FUN!

These cute little hearts I got at at The Wood Connection...love that place! They are the perfect little addition to the LOVE blocks.

This awesome "XO" set I purchased at Crafty Wood Cutouts and just used some fun valentines papers I already had in my sweet stash. I really love how they turned out...simple but so very cute!

I wanted to make something that could have interchangeable pieces...this cute ensemble does the job perfectly.

I'm sure we have all seen this great quote all over Pinterest....and honestly it is one of my favorites. I just pulled out my trusty Silhouette and let it do the rest. I want to keep it up forever!

So that's a little of my Valentines decor. How do you decorate?

{Wow Me Wednesday}

I'm so excited for {Wow Me Wednesday}!!!

This is a little segment I decided to start mainly for myself....I'm always looking for amazing ideas that inspire creativity. I just love to see something that makes me go "WOW!! I wish I could make that!" So pull up a chair and take a look at what inspired me this week!

I love this idea!! I don't have kids yet but they are on the way. This fun little bag looks so functional!!!! I love the fact that it just fits on the stroller but then you can totally use it as a diaper bag too. Make it and Love it shows you exactly how this awesome bag!

Sew Much Ado made these fabulous flash cards. Most flash cards get super mangled when the little ones play with them or rather tries to eat them. I love that you can just throw them in the wash when they get a little icky. You can also make these for the alphabet, shapes, or anything you would like to match.

Another wonderful idea for kids! Lil Blue Boo has a tutorial and free pattern download for this cart cover. I'm kind of germ-a-phobic and I like that a little one sitting in the front won't lean down and starting sucking on the yucky handles...cute solution!

Yet another idea for kids...(it's all I think about right now seeing that we have our own little one on its way!) I want to be able to make sure my kids learn everything about everything. Oopsey daisy shows how to make this fun Gospel ABC's book.

Last, but certainly not least and not too connected to kids, is this ultra cute Valentines throw! Moda Bake Shop shows you how to make this quilt just in time for the holidays!!! Love the colors!!!!

Camera Strap

I made this adorable camera strap for my sister, the aspiring photographer! I initially planned on using the two different fabrics and ribbon for a cute accent...but the planned changed about 3/4 the way through. Here's how you make a camera strap cover.

Gather your materials. I chose the orange fabrics because they are bright and fun and totally match my sisters personality.

Next, cut out your main cover. I believe all straps are basically the same size but make sure to measure and add seam allowance. My measurements were 24" x 1.75" so I cut 2 strips measuring 25" x 2.75". **Note**If I make another strap I would save myself some cutting time and cut one really wide piece and fold it....cuts out a sewing step too!!!

Next, sew your two strips together and then iron that seam flat!

After they are ironed you will want to hem the ends of the strips. (sorry...no picture of that one)

For my little ruffled piece I cut 2 strips, 2" x 40", and the sewed them together so I had plenty of ruffle! I measured 1/4" and ironed the fold and then stitched it all the way...on both sides.

Now you have your two basic pieces!!!

In order to gather the fabric, I sewed a running stitch (a longer stitch) right down the center, like so (pictured below)

To gather, just pull on on of the threads until you get the desired ruffle. Once you are satisfied with the ruffle, pin it to the other fabric and sew it on.

After you have the ruffle attached, put right sides together (so it looks like it is inside out) and sew your final side seam. The fun part comes next...turning it right-side out! I like to use a wooded spoon to help me out and it works quite nice!

So this is were I decided i didn't want to use the ribbon. I like ruffles but not too many and the ribbon just wasn't working the way I imagined. So.....I cut a small little strip about a 1" wide, hemmed it all up and sewed it in the middle of the ruffle. I love how it turned out!!!

I love wreaths! They are just so so fun. So when I found this wreath at Superfluous I had to pin it and put it along with all those other wreaths that have caught my attention. Someday I plan to make this one as well as most of my other favorites. The fun this about this is you could totally use both sides for different occasions/holidays....so great!

Christmas decorations are so much fun...I really don't think you can have too many! :)
I love this idea of hanging ornaments from a curtain rod. Fresh Poppy Design has so many cute Christmas decorations idea...hop on over and check them out!

There are so many different kinds of advent calendars out there but I like how this one centers on family activities. The holidays are so fun especially when the whole family is involved! What is more festive than cinnamon stick candles?! Craftaholics Anonymous has a great tutorial on how to create this fabulous look. Just looking at that I can smell the cinnamon.

'Tis the season to believe!

I have a confession...this is not an original idea. I actually saw this in the Deseret Book catalog and now can't find it anywhere. But that's okay. I really didn't want to spend the money on it anyway...I sound so cheap! Yikes! In my defense-if I have everything to make something and I don't have to buy a single thing, I will just make it! Besides, it's definitely tons more fun!

First things first: Gather supplies...paper, wood, tags, Silhouette, wire {not all items are shown...sorry}

First paint your board. I painted it black. Now, while the paint is drying, measure your paper so it fits just perfect on your board. My board was a little longer than my 12 inch paper so I had to piece...don't look to close please :)

This picture shows two steps because I am really terrible at remembering to take pictures...I'm working on it though!!
Cut out your vinyl and stick it on the board. Then distress corners and seams, if you so desire. I sanded all edges and the seam between the red and green and then took a black ink pad around the edges. I really like the way it turned out.

I skipped a couple step of pictures but you will need to cut the vinyl letters for the BELIEVE. I actually didn't have green vinyl so I just cut my letters out of some green paper and stickerized them!!! I love that machine!
After that I attached the letters to the tags, which I also cut on my Silhouette.
This picture is showing how I attached the tags so they weren't just dangling. I took photo square and put on on the back of each tag.

I wanted the letters to look like they were dangling without them actually dangling {a tad bit confusing} basically I wanted them secure but not perfectly straight...

Then I just added wire and curled the ends. Easy!!!

L.O.V.E the way this turned out!!!!!

I'm so excited for {Wow Me Wednesday}!!!

These fun whimsical trees come from Celebrate Life. What a cute twist a traditional tree! I love the colors...not necessarily traditional colors...but so cute!

Kara's Part Ideas has so many holiday party hosting ideas. I especially love the gingerbread house....one word....yummm!!!

Kind of straying from the holiday theme here but I couldn't resist this wreath! I love the burlap and the grapevine together. The Roseland Family blog has so many cute ideas along with a tutorial on how to make the cute roses on this wreath.

These snowmen are adorable! I found these cuties at Etsy.com {sold, but it looks like you can custom order}. Great winter decoration inspiration!!!!

I have actually never heard of Garnet Hill before....have you?! But I saw these and thought it would be such a fun project, especially for kids. I have a few glass ornaments {probably plastic to be honest} that are a little scuffed so this would be the perfect fix!!

Christmas Here I Come!!

I love everything about Christmas....

-Nativity Sets (I own a few, okay, maybe 5 sets....and I plan on collecting more Ü)

-Christmas Lights, especial outdoor lights

-Stockings

-Yummy Festive Foods

-Snowmen (when you decorate with them you can leave them up through January!)

-Family, Friends, Family

-Christmas Stories and The Christmas Story...yes, I grew up acting out The Christmas story every Christmas Eve with my siblings!!! Fun times!!!

-Secret Santa

-Snow

-Decorations...pretty much my favorite kind of decorations

-Happiness and Love that seems ever more present during this time of the year!

-Family...I love spending the holidays with family...it's the BEST

And to start the season off here is a sneak peak of a few of the fabulous things coming this month {yay!!} I can't wait to share the Christmas ideas that have been waiting to be revealed!!!! It's going to be so much fun!

One last Fall Post...

I'm getting really anxious to start Christmas everything!!!! I love it!!! But, Thanksgiving still hasn't happened yet it shouldn't be looked over. So....one last tribute to fall before the Christmas festivities begin!

I love all the subway art out there. So why not add another to the mix!? I though I would give it a try for Thanksgiving and I really love how it turned out. Personally, I love the colored version on white paper with an burnt orange frame...super fun! The black and white on is just as fun on some colored paper though...tough choice :)

These work best for and 8x10 frame, but can be re-sized.
I would love to see how you display your subway art...let me know how it turns out!!

{Wow Me Wednesday}

I'm so excited for {Wow Me Wednesday}!!!

This is a new little segment I decided to start mainly for myself....I'm always looking for amazing ideas that inspire creativity. I just love to see something that makes me go "WOW!! I wish I could make that!" So pull up a chair and take a look at what inspired me this week!

How fun is this!? A rope bowl. I think it feels a but rustic personally and I love it! Every Creative Endeavor has a great tutorial that shows you exactly how to make this fabulous bowl.

I found this adorable idea at Parents.com. I think I mostly love the colors, but I also love the idea! Thanksgiving is so passed over these days and what a great reminder of this time of year. There are so many things to be thankful for!

If I had a nice fireplace I think I would definitely use cute banners. Centsational Girl has a tutorial for this fun project as well as other fabulous fall decoration ideas. I especially love the sparkle!

I had to end on this amazing transformation! All Things Thrifty is doing a bunch of chair transformations and this is just one of them. I wish I was brave to use bold colors and awesome fabrics! Maybe someday, right?!

Another word block tutorial…I just love ‘em!

It’s so nice to have these little sayings for all the holidays and they make for very cute decorations too. So let’s get started. First you gotta round up all your supplies:

-Scrapbook paper (fall colors of course)

-2x4 pieces of wood (mine are different sizes-can’t remember what sizes-but it’s fun to have a variety)

-Paint and a paint brush

-Silhouette Cutting Machine

-Sticker Machine (this comes in handy…trust me!)

Step 1: Paint the back and sides of your blocks. I don’t paint the entire front cuz you will end up covering it anyway.

When I’m working with longer words I like to write the letter on each block as well, just in case things get a little mixed up.

Step 2: Pick out your colors and decide which block they will go on. I like to just trace the block onto the paper and then cut it out.

Step 3: This is where the sticker machine comes in handy. Turn your pieces of papers into stickers so you don’t have to use glue or modge podge…end result…NO BUBBLES EVER!!!!! It is a-ma-zing! And so super easy!

Step 4: After you have stickerized {that’s a word, right?!} your papers stick them onto your blocks. See, so easy isn’t it!? When I first used my sticker machine I was hooked…no more bubbles or sticky messes.

Step 5: Use your silhouette to cut your letters. I used the font Gentle Redhead. I also decided that I would need two colors…a light and a dark…because I had both light and dark colored papers. These are the letters I did in brown. All the other letters were done in ivory.

Step 6: Put those letters on! The project is almost done!!!!!

Step 7: This is by far my favorite step…ACCESSORIZE! Sometimes I like to leave my blocks blank but most of the time I like to add just a little extra something to make it fabulous!

Ta-da!!!!! You’re done and have a super fabulous fall décor item…how do you decorate for the fall?

I was even able to use my super cute turkey!!! Love my fireplace!

{Wow Me Wednesday}

I'm so excited for {Wow Me Wednesday}!!!

This lovely idea comes from { the vintage wren }.

I love the idea of putting words in a frame...genius really. The fun part of this idea

would be changing out the words every once in a while for a quick change!

Today's Fabulous Finds wows me quite often, to be right honest with you! I absolutely adore this crate!

The amazing thing is that she made it out of...wait for it...paint sticks! I

love how simple this is and how very versatile it is!

I love shelves...mainly so I can display everything cute and crafty I find or make on them. Someday soon {hopefully} I will need a corner shelf and found one over at The Idea Room.

This is a fabulous idea I may just have to try!

And last, but certainly not least, are the crazy cute pumpkins. Under My Umbrella is a blog after my own heart....lots of wood crafts. I love anything to do with wood and became a huge fan of many of her crafts. These are just a few of the super amazing "Wows" that I love this week....

Happy November!!!!

Now that little crafting itch gets a little more intense...at least for me it does. It's time to create yummy recipes for all those holiday gatherings, fabulous decorations to make home feel festive, and plenty of Christmas present to make {hopefully being crafty will help the Christmas budget!}

Now on to the real reason for the post:

How to make a cute turkey!

This little turkey of mine is a current favorite. I don't have any power tools, though I really wish I did, so I used my resources...namely foam board. All the supplies you need are:

-Foam board

-Scrapbook paper

-Glue

-Lighter

{sometimes I get really excited to do a craft and forget to take pictures during the process...

this is one of those times....sorry for the lack of pictures :) }

After you cut out all your cute scrapbook papers, glue them on to the foam board. You will then glue each layer to each other: the colorful feathers, the brown feathers, the body, the feet, and then the beak.

I really like the burnt look so I took my lighter and went around all the edges of the paper to give it just a touch of texture. Add some raffia and now you have a super cute turkey just in time to decorate for Thanksgiving!

I've been trying to decorate every room in my house for Halloween and it has been so fun! I had an extremely empty wall and didn't know exactly what I wanted to do. So I went rummaging through my pile of picture frames for those "someday" projects :) I found a strip of wood from a past project and found a fun frame.

I especially love the lettering and the cute ghosts on this Happy Haunting sign. The spider is another favorite...just made from a cotton ball, a few twigs, and some black spray pain...easy!

This frame was originally gold. I really like the texture and feel but I'm not a gold person. So I painted it a bit {just enough so it is black but you can still see the texture}and I really love the way it turned out. As for the graphics...just an easy project for my dear Silhouette! I love that machine! :)

And this is what it looks like all together. I think it's a pretty good solution for a very empty wall!

Question of the day....
Would it be considered white trash if I use certain pieces of garbage for a craft project?

I thought about that as I was putting together this little project. I have a little pet peeve about clutter and would so much rather have something cute to look at instead of a pile of random stuff. So one day after making cake mix cookies I thought, "I wonder what I could use this empty box for?" and came up with this....

It started out with a toilet paper roll, two empty cake mix boxes, and scrapbook paper.

Choose your paper and glue it on to the cardboard. Add any accessories, if so desired!

Not a huge craft nor the best, but it totally cleans up that clutter...which I love!

I love Halloween decorations! These spooky blocks are among my favorites. They are kind of a cute twist on a scary holiday....if that's possible :)

I especially love the little bats above. It's just fun!

Trick-or-Treat!

This was a super simple little project. I just found some old wood out in the wood pile, pulled out the Silhouette and viola.....a fun, rustic, Halloween sign.

I wanted something to put outside and this is perfect since the wood is already weathered! Fabulous!

I've been wanting to do something cute to display our name. The only problem that kept coming up was the length of our name....it's long! Everything that I would think of just looked awkward and not right. And then I finally found the perfect project. It was quite a project to get right. I wanted there to be color and variation {which there is not much of now} but the wording wouldn't show up. So this is what I have as of right now...

I like it but it is a little too plain. I'm waiting for some inspiration of some embellishments but it just hasn't come yet....Any suggestions?! I would definitely love any ideas :)
