The hugeprocession of goddess Teej is an integral part of the festival. This procession travels through various parts of Bundi. It travels through the main bazaars and ultimately stops at Azad Park. It is a great experience for tourists to witness this procession as it includes performing artists, elephants, camels and performingbands. A large number of people also take part in the procession. Their enthusiasm for the festival isclearly reflected from their joyous mood. They deck themselves in colorful attires. The festival of Kajli Teej also holds great significance for the married couples. According to the belief, the festival strengthens the ties between the married couples. Thewhole of Bundi boasts a different look altogether during this event. Variety of foods, entertainment options for kids along with a number of cultural programs provide a great time to the peopleof Bundi as well as tourists visiting the place during that time.The cultural programs are very popular among visitors as they reflect the rich culture of the place. Haveli Katkoun Guest House is a fantastic experience. The rooms were very comfortable with reliable hot/cold water & at reasonable prices, and from the second floor fantastic views of the palace and fort. The food is great quality and reasonably priced. The staff are always willing to help, advise, and chat, but also happy to let you go about your visit independently. All in all a great experience and highly recommended.Good restaurant in courtyard which was always busy around all meal times. Reasonable prices. Good lassis and pancakes. Good base to visit fort, potter about the markets and hire a bike to visit the surrounding area.Delicious, freshly cooked & good value. Friendly & efficient service.

Bundi is a beautiful town and have importance in the History for Rajasthan. Bundi is surrounded by the Aravalli hills on the three sides and is circumscribed by a massive wall with four gateways. Interesting monuments including impressive medieval forts, palaces, havelis, temples with beautiful stone idols and chattris with carved pillars, along with a picturesque lake in the heart of the town, add to its charm. Bundi is very famous for its intricate carvings and murals.

It is located 36 kms from Kota. Once a part of Kota, it was ruled by the Had Chauhans - an offshoots of the famous Chauhan clan who ruled Delhi and Ajmer.

In 1193 A.D. when Prithviraj Chauhan was defeated by Sultan Mohammed Ghauri, some Chauhan nobles sought shelter in Mewar and became allies to the Rana while other young warriors move towards the Chambal valley and overpowered the Meena and Bhil tribals - thus establishing their own kingdom of Hadoti. Later, two branches of Hadas formed two separates states of Kota and Bundi, on either side of the river Chambal.

TOURIST ATTRACTIONS

TARARGH FORT - 14th CENTURY:
This is one of the most impressive and in days gone by, impregnable forts in Rajasthan. It has four enormous water reservoirs which were built to cater to the water requirements of the fort. The panoramic view of Bundi and surrounding hills is magnificent, an ideal place to sit quietly and watch the sunset. Taragarh means the 'Star Fort' is the most impressive of the city's structures. It was constructed in AD 1354 upon a steep hillside. The largest of its battlements is the 16th century bastion known as the Bhim Burj, on which was once mounted a particularly large cannon called Garbh Gunjam, or 'Thunder from the Womb'. The fort is a popular tourist viewpoint of the city below. the fort has three tanks which never dry up. These tanks are right on top of the fort which sits on top of one of the hills surrounding the city. The technique is long since lost but the tanks survive as a testament to the advanced methods of construction and engineering in medieval India.

KESHARBARGH 16TH CENTURY
This final resting place of Bundi's kings and queens, Kesharbargh is another fine example of Bundi's impressive architecture. The cenotaphs are beautifully crafted from fine yellow sandstone and marble.

NAVAL SAGAR LAKE - 18TH CENTURY
Seen as you enter the town and visible from the fort and palace is the square artificial lake, a temple dedicated to Varuna, the Aryan god of water stands half submerged in the centre. The reflection of the old city, the fort and palace can be seen in it's waters.

RANI JI KI BAORI - 17TH CENTURY
Bundi is known for it's baoris of stepwells. Constructed by royalty and affluent members of society, they served as water reservoirs when there was a scarcity of water. The commisioning of a baori was considered a sacred act and a privillege. More than fifty baoris exist in and around Bundi and are a marvel of craftsmanship and architecture. The finest example being the Rani Ji Ki. Built in 1699 by mother-queen Nthavati Ji during her son Budh Singh's time it is adorned with finely sculpted pillars and arches. It is a multistoreyed atructure with places of worship on each floor.

Whilst in Bundi take the time to wander through the narrow streets, make your way through the bustling markets to the colourfull vegetable marked where an array of fresh local produce can be found, remember to take your camera, Bundi is a photoghraphers delight and most of the locals are more than happy to heve their photograph taken, remember it is courtesy to ask first.

BUNDI UTSAV
A pagent of resplendent heritage of the Hadoti celebrated every year after the Kartik Poornima. The programme includes folk/classical music and dance, arts and crafts, ethnic sports, turban competition and a fireworks display.

THE BUNDI PALACE
It is situated on the hillside adjacent to the Taragarh Fort and is notable for its lavish traditional murals and frescoes. The Chitrashala (picture gallery) of the palace is open to the general public.

The largest of Bundi's baoris or stepwells is the intricately-carved Raniji ki Baori. Some 46 m deep, it was built in 1699 by Rani Nathavatji. The steps built into the sides of the water-well made water accessible even when at a very low level. The baori is one of the largest examples of its kind in Rajasthan.

THE NAWAL SAGAR
It is a large square-shaped artificial lake in the centre of Bundi containing many small islets. A temple dedicated to Varuna, the vedic god of water, stands half-submerged in the middle of the lake. the lake feeds the numerous bavdis in the old city by creating an artificial water table.

THE NAGAR SAGAR
The twin step wells are identical step wells crafted in pristine masonry on either side of the main spine of Bundi town. The kunds (pools) are currently full of waste from the ancient vegetable market in the vicinity.

THE DABHAI KUND
It is also known as the jail kund, is the largest of the kunds in Bundi. Though slightly overgrown, it is well worth a visit for the spectacular carvings on the numerous steps leading down to the water level.

PLACES TO VISIT AROUND BUNDI

ROCK PAINTINGS
Few kms from Bundi, the caves depict paintings belonging to the mesolithic period. They show hunting scenes, daily life of the period, human figures, dancing postures along with bison, deer and tiger. The painting at Gararda has been estimated to be 5000 years old bearing ample proof of the fact that Hadoti region sustained early man.

BHIMLAT WATERFALL
30 kms from Bundi, spread over an area of 6kms and cascading 60 metres into a deep pool, Bhimlat Waterfall is a place of grand natural scenic beauty.

KESHORAI PATAN
45 kms from Bundi, on the banks of the Chambal river stands a magnificent temple built around 1641. The scalloped top of the temple shines bright in the morning sun making it's golden reflection ripple in the river water. During the Kartik- fair (oct-nov) the gold mingles with a riot of colours when thousands of village folk gather to worship the deity of Lord Keshjav Rai Ji.

A SPECIAL MONSOON FEST

Rajasthan's tradition can be captured at its festive best at the fairs and festivals which are dazzlingly theatrical and lively. The celebration of Kajli Teej in Bundi, the queen of Hadoti in Rajasthan is different from the many other Teej festivals celebrated elsewhere in the state and outside. Here it is a more than a week long celebration of gaiety and fun fair. Goddess Uma is worshipped by the seekers of conjugal bliss and love.

The Teej Festival is celebrated throughout the rainy season in Rajasthan, with each region having its own take on celebrations. Such events are manifested by wearing colorful traditional costumes , new set of bangles ,decorations with the decorative mehendi and the like. It is dedicated to the eternal love of the Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati and it echoes of the time when women pray for a happy and long married life. As the rains drops fall on the parched land and the nostalgic aroma of the wet soil rises into the air, swings are hung from trees and decorated with flowers. Young girls dress up in colorful attires and sing to celebrate the advent of the monsoons. The Teej , essentially a ladies festival is dedicated to Gauri commemorating her union with Shiva. Kajli Teej is thus a religious and cultural manifestation of the same. Besides the Shravani and Bhadon ki Teej, the local Kajli Teej, is a special attraction for the foreign tourists . It is is celebrated in Bundi on the third day of Bhadra Pad whereas it is takes place on the third day of Shravana at other places in the state. The fest is particularly vibrant with the traditional procession of the goddess in a decorated palanquin which passes through the main bazaar and the streets. A sight of the idol Teej on the two days is considered auspicious and people from all walks of life attend the fiesta. The procession has decorated elephants, camels, horses, bands, performing artists and folk performers. The Teej statue is covered with a canopy whereas the Gangaur idol is open.

A local fair held nearby is very popular with the rural folks around Bundi .Exhibition of handicraft items like the traditional kataar, paintings and bangles ,rural handicraft ,petty items etc and the fancy eatables etc attract many. Artisans from far flung places participate in big numbers selling their products. The first two days are dedicated to the folk instrument "Algoza" recital competition and it renders a melodious take off to the fair. Though the main function lasts for two days the deliberations continue beyond Janmashtmi ( the birthday of Lord Krishna ). The mela venue i.e the Kumbha Stadium comes alive every evening bustling with fun and frolic . Amongst the other popular festivals in the region the Kajli Teej has its own charm and flavour.

An exuberant procession culminates at the Azad Park in the heart of the city. This year the festival took off beautifully and with the participation of the royal Teej idol with its historical background and the traditional one simustaneously in the form of a colorful shobha yatra passing through the streets of the city. The event attracted many dmoestic and foreign tourists. Organized jointly by the local municipality and the district administration each day cultural performances with special Qawwali evenings, Kavi Sammelan and Devotional songs , musical nights etc by the well known artistes as well as local artistes are part of the celebrations. The curious tourists also have get a feel of the local culture and enjoy the traditional festivity.

The popular Kajli Teej with the dressed up ladies carrying the idol of Teej Mata has also been nicely depicted in the famous Bundi miniature paintings , housed at the Garh Palace. Special poems have also been written for the ocassion. The original Teej idol made in gold and precious stones was siezed by the landlord (Thakur) Balwant Singh of Gothra in Bundi from Jaipur many years back and later the Hada king Rao Raja Ram Singh brought the idol to Bundi and continued the tradition by celebrating Teej in the month of Bhadra 15 days after it is celebrated in the state capital Jaipur. In the present times only a neatly decorated replica of the idol is used for the festival. The original and the historical Teej is kept at the royal palace of Bundi. The idol of Teej rests at the Sukh Mahal ( known as the Kiplings Rest House ) .

बून्‍दी शहर से 5 किलोमीटर दूर हरी-भरी अरावली की तलहटी मे महाराव राजा उम्‍मेद सिह ने सन 1713 ई मे अपने पुत्र अजीत सिहं के लिए गददी छोडकर नगर से दूर तक एकांतवास बनाया था। जिसे शिकार बुर्ज कहा जाता हैं ।

भीमलत महादेव (झरना ) बून्‍दी से 30 किमी दूर चितौड जाने वाले मार्ग पर सुष्टि की नि:सन्‍देह सुन्‍दर कुति है। करीब 60 मीटर की उचाई से जल- प्रपात एक सौम्‍य संगीत की उत्‍पति करता है। सीढियों के जरिये हम वहां पहुंच सकते है, जहां झरने का जल एकत्रित होकर तालाब का रूप ले लेता है।

पश्चिम दिशा मे जब अस्‍ताचल गामी सूर्य की किरणे किसी मजार को प्रणाम कर करती है तो याद आता हे नजारा- बाबा मीरा साहब की दरगाह का।

बून्‍दी नगर की पूर्वी पहाडी पर निर्मित मीरा साहब की दरगाह प्रथम दरगाह होने का श्रेय प्राप्‍त करती है। मीरा साहब के संक्ष्प्ति नाम से पूजित इस संत की मजार की प्रमुख विशेषता इस पर पांच मीनारो का निर्माण है। जबकि प्राय: अन्‍य मजारो पर चार मीनारे होती है। इसमे पास ही प्राकुतिक जलाशय के साथ ही मध्‍ययुगीन एक भवन भी बना है। ईद के पर्व पर यहां भव्‍य मेला लगता है।
