Just in case you were wondering.

Apparently catbearding is the new "it" thing. I can see if in there all day long. Just being fat and terrifying. It stares at you, this death glare, that makes you fear for your life. I thought about removing the nest this morning (don't even tell me not to, I don't care about the baby birds, they are ugly terrifying things), but that damn bird never leaves its nest. And I'm too afraid to try to shoo it out. So now we are at a standoff, this bird and I. I might get out the broom and poke it later. We'll see how brave I get. Or how many beers I've taken out of the fridge.

Get out of my life, bird.

What have you been up to? Life has been a rollercoaster lately. I tried to keep up with this blog everyday stuff, but I just can't. I just started a new semester in school, I'm still working full time, I'm planning my wedding, I'm running crassXstitch, I'm trying to make my house not a mess (and failing), and blogging is at the end of that list unfortunately.

In addition to all of that, Andy's grandpa passed away two weeks ago and shortly after that my family found out that my grandpa has cancer. A very rare form of liver cancer to be exact. He started chemo yesterday and will continue to have it once a week for 5 hours for 8 weeks. After that, the doctors will be able to give him a better idea of what they're looking at, but so far it's not looking good.

Andy has been putting in 14 hour days at work, leaving before I wake up, and coming home after I'm asleep. I'm lucky we work together, or I would never see him. Hopefully his work load lightens a little in the near future.

With all of that happening, there are also some good things going on in our lives. First off, being engaged is awesome. I'm having a blast planning our wedding and I get all excited every time I get to say "fiance". I graduated to one appointment a week in physical therapy. My migraines are a rare occurrence now instead of having multiple a week. My TMJ doctor is presenting my case to the University of Nebraska Medical Center today. I'm very fancy, apparently.

But really, I miss my blog friends. I'm sorry I haven't been around much and my reading list on Bloglovin' has reached an astronomical level. I'm hoping that soon I will be back in the swing of things and will be reading and commenting up a storm on all your blogs. Until then, we could use some positive thoughts at the Bung.

BONUS: For reading this post, you will be rewarded with this video of Bella from last night crying because she missed Andy. She paces on the counter by the side door until she hears his car and then she meets him at the door. She's pretty much obsessed with him.

Day 14: Happiness

#blogeverydayinmay
Day Fourteen: Ten things that make you really happy.

1. Andy said they obviously don't know me if they didn't think I would be OCD overload about planning. But in all truth, I haven't stressed out about it all that much. This is seriously one of the best times in my life, and you better believe I'm taking advantage of every single second of it. This includes calling Andy my "fay-once" as much as possible (my dad calls Beyonce "bay-once" so fiance = "fay-once").

As far as planning goes, this is what I have checked off my list in the past 2+ weeks:

- Venue: Ceremony & Reception
- Caterer: Food, linens, flatware/silverware, clean-up
- Alcohol & Bartenders
- Chair Covers (so necessary in our venue, the chairs are AWFUL)
- Photographer
- DJ
- Bridal Party

The only thing that I'm a little stressed out about is the guest list. It's getting a little out of control. I set my max at 250, and I'm already at 213 without input from my parents, Andy's parents, and Andy. I guess that's what happens when you come from large extended families.

I had one moment of minor panic last week when I found out that my first choice for cupcakes was booked, over a year in advance! But my second choice was open and I am meeting with them today to discuss options. Crisis averted.

In the next few weeks I hope to have nailed down some more concrete ideas for flowers, centerpieces, and bridesmaids dresses. My mom and sister are practically foaming at the mouth to get me into a wedding dress, so some trying on will most likely happen as well.

Where did you find inspiration for your wedding?

Day 13: I'm Sorry

#blogeverydayinmay

Day Thirteen: Issue a public apology. I didn't pick it back up, as usual. So if you can't find it again tonight, that's where it is.

I'm also sorry that I rubbed dish soap all over your arm hair yesterday. I got a little carried away playing bubbles with the nephews.

I'm sorry I made you stop working to come upstairs and kill a spider for me.

I'm sorry that cookies magically end up in the cart while grocery shopping.

I'm sure by the end of the day I will have more things to be sorry for. embarassing moment(s). Spill.

*I'm behind on this... with the funeral, Mother's Day, wedding planning, etc. I just haven't had a second to breathe yet.

My most embarassing moment would have to be my freshman year of college. My roommate talked me into going to Sunday night mass with her on campus. I had never been to mass on campus before, and every church does things a little differently. So when it came to a certain part of the mass, I stood up, because at my church that's when we stood up. I was the only one standing. I quickly went to sit down, and missed the pew entirely and fell flat on my ass. I climbed back on to the bench and remained red faced and embarrassed for the remainder of mass. My roommate could not stop giggling either, so that really helped. To top it all off, while we were in mass, it had rained. This caused the old brick sidewalk in front of the church to be very slick. As I exited the church, I saw my cousin out front. I ran to say hello. I slipped and fell on my ass. Again. I took this as a sign that I should never go to mass again. Just kidding. Kind of.

Day Nine: A Moment

#blogeverydayinmay

Day Nine: A moment in your day.

My view this morning. I'm a baby. Whatever.

1. Hair in drains. I've written about it before. Especially the incident involving the floor drain in the basement. Even thinking about it makes my skin crawl. Cleaning out my own hair brush involves a lot of gagging and squealing. I don't even like when I shower and I shed and get wet loose hair on my hands.

2. Spiders. There is a particular commercial that has been running on the History Channel for Ax-Men involving flipping over a log covered in giant spiders. I dive into the couch pillows every time it comes on. Last week I found two spiders on the ceiling of our bedroom and ran screaming to Andy to come upstairs and "be a man" and kill them, which proved to be difficult with our cathedral ceilings in the bedroom. I hopped around with my hands over my eyes making screeching noises, which was especially effective.

3. Birds. They are terrifying. With their beady little eyes and sharp talons ("Do the chickens have large talons?"), you never know what they're going to do. When my LT came to visit she made me go in the aviary at the zoo and I thought I was going to perish. Honestly. Currently I'm in a panic because there is a bird making a nest in the flower pots in the front of my office. Every time you walk up to the front doors, it comes shooting out of there like a cannon. Absolutely terrifying.

What are you afraid of?

Day Six: What I Do

#blogeverydayinmay
Day Six: If you couldn't answer with your job, how would you answer the question 'what do you do?'

My job really doesn't define who I am, so this is fairly simple.

I am a cross stitcher extraordinaire.

I spend most of my free time with these idiots.

I eat far too much every single day. Awkward pauses. I'm sure this is one this one is on a lot of peoples' lists. I always end saying something stupid/laughing after an awkward pause. And there are A LOT of awkward pauses working with a gaggle of engineers.
2. Hugs. I'm not a big hugger. Unless I truly am absofuckinglutely excited to see you/you are Andy, hugs make me feel super uncomfortable.
3. When my nail tech tries to have a conversation with me while she's scrubbing my feet. Please, let me me read my magazine in peace.
4. People asking me Andy and I's timeline for having kids. Um, I just got engaged. So let's not discuss my plans for bearing children quite yet, 'kay? I'm not even CLOSE to ready.
5. Talking religion and politics with people I don't know very well. Things tend to go south quickly when this happens. Andy LOVES debating politics with people. There was an incident last fall at a restaurant with a bunch of friends/acquaintances in which things got so heated that I wanted to crawl under the table and die. Everyone's entitled to an opinion, I just don't want to talk about it.

What makes you uncomfortable?

Blog Everyday In May: Day 2 - Something I'm Good At

#blogeverydayinmay
Day 2: Educate us on something you know a lot about or are good at.

Something I'm good at... hmmm... that's not a very long list. I'll go with cross stitching, as that little shop of mine continues to be a success in my life. So here goes nothing, a beginner's crash course in cross stitching.

Tips and Tricks Before You Start:
- For most of my designs I use 14 ct Aida fabric. You can buy this at most craft stores (Michael's, Hobby Lobby, etc.)
- Use an embroidery hoop or frame to keep your fabric taut. I use an 8"x8" Q-Snap frame for most projects.
- I like to tape the edges of my fabric with painter's tape to prevent the edges from fraying.
- Cut your embroidery floss into 12-18" lengths. The longer the length, the more likely it is to tangle and knot.
- Use only two strands of embroidery floss. Most embroidery floss will come in 6 strand.
- Mark your design area with a water soluble embroidery pen so you can correctly position your design.
- Always start stitching in the upper left hand corner.

Get Your crassXstitch On:
- Insert your needle at point 1 from the back side of the fabric.

- Complete half stitch by inserting needle into point 2.

- Insert needle through point three from the back of the fabric like in the first step, and in doing so, secure the tail from your first stitch, and pull tight to secure. I usually do a couple stitches like this to make sure it won't come loose, then I trim the remaining thread so that it won't get tangled while stitching.

- Insert needle through point four. Hey! You made a cross stitch!

- For most projects, I do rows of half stitches before going back and completing the stitches. This makes correcting mistakes much easier.

Half stitches.

Full stitches.

- To end a stitch, thread your needle through your past three or four stitches to secure the thread. So here I am. Participating in Story of My Life’s #blogeverydayinmay.

Today’s assignment:
“The story of your life in 250 words or less”
Mine is 283. Sue me.

I was born in Omaha, NE, to Renee (of Minneapolis) and Greg (of Omaha). At age four we welcomed my sister, Allison, to our family and at age eight we completed our family with my brother, Dylan. I had a medical scare at age 6 when my vision changed in my left eye. After words like “tumor” and “cancer” were thrown around, it was discovered that a calcium deposit broke off my optic nerve and severed part of it. I’m fine now. Just legally blind in that left eye. I have zero hand eye coordination and depth perception. I am a walking accident. I attended private Catholic school for 18 years. Yes, this included a lot of plaid skirt wearing. I played nearly every sport under the sun, I wasn’t very good at any of them (see hand eye coordination and depth perception). I was good at one thing. Running. I ran track and cross country in middle and high school. Then I became a lazy college student. Speaking of college, I’m now in my 7th year. Am I becoming a doctor? No. I’m just taking my sweet time. I’m almost done, I swear, Mom & Dad. After working in law offices and restaurants, I landed at an engineering company, where I met my fiancé (it is SO fun to say that), Andy. We live in a 1924 American Bungalow that we adore with our two cats, Bella and Abby. We are getting married June 7th, 2014. I met my best friend through blogging, and she’s been one of the best things to ever happen to me. My life is so full of happiness and love in this moment that I might explode.

Bungheads Are ENGAGED!

Friday I wrote about Andy and I's date night plans. After an hour or so of soaking up some sun on the patio, we headed up the street to dinner.

We sat at the same table that we sat at when we celebrated our 1 year anniversary. I went for the wine list first, naturally, and asked Andy if he wanted to do a bottle of red. He said, "Wait. What's this?" as he flicked an ivory colored envelope at me that had been lying under the wine list. I was confused, naturally, so I opened it. This is what I found:

Backstory on the "I wrote it fancy for you!":

The first summer Andy and I were dating, he was sleep talking one night. I wrote about it briefly here. He sat up in bed and asked me, "Do you want me to write it fancy for you?" I was confused and asked him, "Do I want you to what?" to which he responded, "I don't know. Some people like it to be written fancy." Then he went right back to sleep. I told him about it the next morning and we had a good laugh about it. Then at work he slipped me a note that still resides in my bedside table.

The word "It" written "fancy".

I think I said "Are you kidding me? Are you joking?" about 43 times as he held out my absolute dream engagement ring. Andy custom designed it himself. I said yes. Duh.

Little did I know, he went and had asked my parents' permission earlier in the week, and they were anxiously awaiting our call to meet us downtown to celebrate. Maybe I'm lacking an essential girl gene, but I do NOT think this is romantic:

Riding behind a stinky horse and a questionable driver wearing some sort of top hat with his dog sitting next to him? No thanks. Not to mention, a ride around the entire Old Market (MAYBE a square mile, and that's pushing it) is upwards of $100. This thing has lines wrapped around the block constantly, waiting for their turn. In addition to the lovely Cinderella carriage, they have two regular carriage rides. Andy always threatens to take me on it, like it's punishment. I think it really would be.

Tonight we're going to dinner in the Old Market, and I have created the most "romantic" evening. The night will start off with a gondola ride in the Heartland of America park.

Now this may look idyllic and pretty, and it does, from afar. Up close?

That water is the nastiest shit I've ever seen. The color is like a dark brown green, and it's constantly covered in gross algae/mold/floating garbage. When I was little, my aunt would take us there and threaten to throw us in the water if we misbehaved. That got us in line REAL fast. So that's going to be Andy and I's first stop on our "romantic" date. On a gondola ride across putrid water.

Next up? A stroll down the Gene Leahy Mall. This is how it normally looks in spring, and it's gorgeous.

But, it's currently undergoing renovations, so they had to drain the water. And now it looks like this:

Doesn't this look delicious? I bet it smells wonderful right now. The water from the park? Comes from this little man made river.

So after our gondola ride in putrid water, and a stroll down the foul smelling, trash filled mall, we will end our evening on the Cinderella horse ride.

Try not to be jealous. I have seen a physical therapist before for my headaches/neck pain, but I didn't love the experience. I met with a doctor today that specializes in head and neck therapy, so that's a plus. I expected to go in, get assigned some stretches, and go home.

Nope. He did a full body assessment on me. Turns out one of my hips is higher than the other, which is causing my muscular system to work incorrectly. It also explains my hip injury in high school during cross country season. He said I have the tightest hip flexors that he's seen on anyone under 50. I'm not sure if I should be proud of that or not. Supposedly, this imbalance can directly affect your jaw. How? I have no idea.

In addition to my wonky hips, he told me that I have issues with my ulnar and medial nerves. Basically I have early stage carpal tunnel. At 24. He said it's from the amount of time young people spend on the computer/tablets. I'm basically connected to something at my hands every waking hour of the day. My computer at work. My laptop and iPad at home. My cross stitch. I'm constantly working with my hands. Apparently, doctors are seeing more and more cases of people under 30 getting carpal tunnel because of technology.

I have to see him three times a week until he deems me fit to decrease my sessions. As I was leaving he said, "We have a LOT of work to do." Wonderful. In the meantime, I've ordered wrist supports for my work computer like a total grandma. And I will be iPadding and cross stitching with two pillows stacked under my arms, also like a total grandma.

Excuse me, I'm going to go look like an idiot and stretch my hip flexors now.

Office Closet = OWNED

You know how almost every family has a junk drawer? Well at the Bung, we had a junk closet. The closet in the office became the catch all for "I have no idea where this goes" from day one on moving day. Over the past year and a half, it has just snowballed out of control. You haven't been able to close the door in about a year.

Yesterday I decided I had had enough. With crassXstitch doing so well, I needed space to keep my supplies from spilling over onto Andy's desk. We share a big L-shaped desk and he was constantly finding thread scraps and needles all over his space. While he was at work, the closet and I had a come to Jesus talk.

I thought about taking a before picture, but I was too embarrassed. It was BAD you guys. So bad. Like, amazing that I was able to accomplish that big of a mess in under two years. I found a broken lamp, a space heater, Andy's college diploma, the deed to our house, my art supplies, about 15 winter coats (it gets cold here, guys), and a whole ton of other junk. I moved most of the stuff worth keeping into storage in the basement and threw away the rest. That left me with a nearly empty closet after moving the coats into the nap room.

We bought this storage shelf/cabinet/cubby/thingy from Le Target Boutique.

And voila!

I need to get a light in there.

Now all my crassXstitch supplies have their own space, plus room for gloves/hats/scarves/etc, games, and Andy's diploma and our deed are no longer living on the ground.

Having a dedicated workspace is really important for both Andy and I. He does a lot of work from home, and I need space to run my business and do schoolwork in. The closet was hindering our ability to use the space to the fullest.

But now that Andy has seen that I am indeed capable of organization... He asked if I had ever stolen anything. I asked him to clarify if it was from a store or from a person. He said a store. I said no. But from a person...

In college I had a friend, let's call her D. D had been a party girl in high school and was hell bent teaching me her ways in college. As a girl who could count how many times she'd drank on one hand at 18, I had a lot to learn. We were sitting around one night lamenting our lack of fake IDs. It was the ladies turn in our group of friends to procure alcohol, the guys had whined "we did it last time!". D said she thought it was time for a "collection night". With D it was her way or the highway, so I agreed to her promise that it would be a good night.

We all piled in the car and drove to an off campus house party. D told the guys to wait in the car, "we won't be long" she had trilled. D climbed out of the car armed with a giant Victoria's Secret bag. You know the one's they used to give away during the semi-annual sale? The "beach bag" looking ones that were so huge you could fit a toddler in them? Yeah, that one. I asked her what in god's name was she doing with a purse of that size. She just giggled and told me to follow her.

We mingled and played a few rounds of beer pong (it is called beer pong Alissa, not Beirut, Beirut is a country). A few people went back upstairs and D prepared to make her move. She grabbed everything remotely alcoholic in sight (including a bottle of peach schnapps, ick) and shoved it into her ginormous bag. When it got too heavy to lift, she tossed a few beer cans out, grabbed my hand, and raced up the stairs.

"Thanksforinvitingusgottagobye!", she called as we ran through the front door. The guys sped off as soon as we hopped in the car. We got back to the dorms safely without getting bag checked at the door, which was a miracle. Once we got inside D's room, she dumped out the bag to show her haul. A case of beer. Two half full bottles of vodka. The nearly full bottle of peach schnapps. A few errant Bud Lights rolled around on the bottom of the bag.

This was collection night. Going to someone's house and stealing all their alcohol. While I was not the one stealing, I was an accessory to the crime. D and I drifted apart after that. She transferred to another school for her sophomore year, and I haven't heard from her since. But I will always remember collection night. And why I can't say that I've never stolen anything.

Have you ever stolen anything?
