At the end of July 2012 we had our first anniversary, which we marked with a Bunny Party. About 50 people (adults and children) attended, and four new bunnies were adopted at that event. We also made new connections, and the participants had a lot of fun with the bunny petting and the magic show.

In one year of rescuing, we helped adopt over 200 homeless bunnies, and paid over $3,000 in vet bills. We also helped many other bunny owners(who did not adopt from us) troubleshoot various existing issues, which allowed them to keep their bunnies rather than having them rehomed.

All these bunnies currently have good homes rather than being dumped in parks and auto malls. Some new bunny owners were supported and trained as necessary, some single bunnies were given suitable bunny companions, and many regular cages and housing situations were improved to be both pet-friendly and people friendly.

And as it always happens when people make a difference, we have also had our share of critics and busy body slanderers. Some posted nasty notes on Kijiji, Craigslist, and forums, others E-mailed us with similar content. Sometimes I wonder how much it was done out of boredom, and how much was just by assuming things or drawing wrong conclusions without asking. Please copy and send us such info, so that we can find these misinformed activists and correct their facts or make them accountable.

Whatever our critics say, here is the truth:

1. We do not breed bunnies
2. We never rehome babies under 8 weeks old
3. We pay a lot of vet bills
5. Our rescue is seen and visited on a regular basis
6. Our rescue bunnies have free running privileges while with us.
7. Not all ads charging $30 adoption fee are ours
8. We give bunny replacement guarantee to all out adopters.
9. We provide "Bunny Petting" service to reduce the number of bunnies adopted for Easter or other occasions and abandoned soon after.
11. Our paramount purpose is the welfare of the rabbit
12. We do not euthanize bunnies that can not get adopted

For more info please read other pages on this site, including Q&A. If you have any questions or concerns you can contact us directly, and we will be happy to help clarify things.

We know how hard it is to find timely exposure for a beloved pet that needs a new home. Since we were approved to list on Adopt-A-Pet and we only rescue rabbits, we are open to help other regular pet owners with listing under our account.

This is also a fundraiser so Bunny Homes Rabbit Rescue can self-sustain with food and vet costs, continuing to treat sick rabbits and to neuter/spay them before adoption. We have a suggested donation of $5 for each new pet we post for you, which you can add to your adoption fee. Please send your gift to petsmatching@gmail.com, which you can pay with a credit card on www,paypal.com.

To have your pet posted for adoption please go to www,petsmatching.com and copy a "Pet Card", which includes all the info people would like to know when adopting a pet. Fill out as much as you know, good or bad, and let us "smooth it out" a little when we do the posting.

NOTE: We do not support puppy mills, or any pet breeders. Also, we do not post pets that eat other pets.

Why build new institutions and societies to pick up after us? Each neighbourhood should have its own built-in rescue societies. And a society needs to be no bigger than a family, or even an individual. If you and I do what we can where we live, work or study, there is no need for centralized institutions, fundraisers, expensive advertisements, etc.

This blog is to help the community meet bunnies that are looking for new forever homes. Please visit often, and help these bunnies in whichever way you can. If nothing else, tell other people about this blog, and encourage them to adopt bunnies featured here rather than buying one in the store and making bunny mill businesses prosperous.

Let's be a TEAM (Together Everyone Accomplishes More) acting proactively, rather than reacting to problems in panic, with bandaid temporary fixes.
