i've been finding myself listening to r. kelly's ignition (remix) whenever i need to start something. whether it has been getting ready for school/work, starting a paper, or this long, and overdue blog post.
hello. i'm alive.
while i seem to have lost my will to take 'outfit photos', as well as every day life photos, i am still around. here is a list of things:

i have moved: i moved to a new 2/1 with my bestie/new roommate, caitlin. i have mentioned this happening before. i flew to her in jan, and we drove back to california from connecticut together. the drive went smoothly. now i am still getting settled, while she is completely unpacked. i can look to my left and see a pile of clothes and cardboard boxes stacked on top of each other. one of these days i will finish. oh yeah, i've been here about a month now. so. probably not.
work is picking back up again, and i am not ready. the boyfriend had stopped working at the nursery briefly (that's where we met!), but is now employed there again. so although we work together, we don't get to spend nearly as much time together as we once did. also, i am not ready for the spring season. i know i can handle it just fine, but being a seasoned employee, and not a newbie this year, a lot more is expected of me (more hours included). this last week was 40 hours with my 12 unit school schedule. while i've done this before, it being my last semester it is a bit much, but nothing i can't handle.
school! i graduate! i am so ready for it.
pistachio is loving having all the room to run around now, sometimes he looks so happy running around, chewing on boxes. but i'm pretty sure i discovered a part of the couch (in the back luckily) that he has decided to chew, this is of course after i had covered all available cords. oh well.
the boyfriend (okay, he has a name, it is michael) is the best thing ever. more on that later.

in terms of clothing: this is one of my favorite cardigans ever of all time ever. thank you thrift store. shrunken wool cardigans have become a staple in my wardrobe. especially in lovely colors like this. the dress came from the modcloth last hurrah sale at the end of august, and i hadn't worn it until this. and i've worn it quite a few times since.

now, it isn't as if i am not getting dressed. but with working 5 days a week, i prefer to go home after 8-9 hours of work and put on leggings and oversized sweatshirts than get dressed (especially when it is completely dark when i get home) and i haven't felt the need to photograph the outfits i wear to school the other two days a week. hopefully this will change, or maybe this blog will change. i'm not sure.

i am still posting things from 2012. so, sue me.

this outfit. i was really proud of it? if that's a thing one can be about wardrobe choices. i got these pants at target for some ridiculous low price, like $12 dollars or something. and i was like. WHY NOT. i don't own colored denim, and this would make them the third pair of pants i own. (one pair of jeans for work, one nice pair). this shirt, i thrifted a while ago, and never wore, it's slightly too big now, but it was so cheap, and something i wanted from target when when they carried it. plus favorite shoes.

this outfit is also from october. we had some WEIRD weather in october. including a couple of 100 degree days?! i don't understand. but anyway. yes. i liked this outfit. i even got random compliments from strangers in it! so that's a win.

in real life, big girl news, caitlin, my bestie of besties, is moving to california. i'm flying out there in just about a week, and driving across the country with her. it'll be crazy, and amazing. then we are moving in together. so i'm excited to have a place that will be more of a home, more room for pistachio, and a kitchen again (i currently don't have an actual kitchen).

other than that, i got a 4.0 last semester (5 classes! plus working a lot! plus pluses!) and i'm pretty proud of that. i am beyond the moon happy with the boyfriend. (we just spent the day together with coffee, breakfast, and adventure time). and other than currently not working, at all (cold/no one wants plants/management is stupid!), everything is awesomesauce.

i'm still posting outfits from 2012, i'm listening to taylor swift all too much, it's the first day of the new year, and i'm happy. a lot went wrong in 2012, but then it all shifted to a whole lot of great. i rarely am one to utter the phrase, 'everything happens for a reason', but when things happen because of REASONS, it starts to make more sense.

good things that happened: i started my new job, i met michael, i moved, michael and i started dating, i finished two semesters (one more to go!), did my first sacramento based craft fair, ~lost some more weight~, and made new plans for 2013 (which i will speak of later).

i spent new years eve with michael, eating snacks, watching a documentary (marwencol), and parks and recreation and cuddling. it was perfect.

this outfit contains many of my favorite colors and items. and i don't have much else to say beyond that. it seems a lot of people are losing their blogging spirit, and i might be in that group as well. i got busy, i got lazy, i preferred to sleep in with the boyfriend rather than get dressed for school. i'm not sure where this blog will go, i'm surprised it has gone as far as it has, but i love some of the people i've met because of it. so, why not keep it up?

i am finished with school for the semester! i am very excited to be done. because this means i actually have days off! i haven't had one yet, but they start tuesday. my other sister is coming back to california for the holidays, and i'm picking her up from the airport. and i've also got plans to maybe see a friend or two, and i am taking the boyfriend to meet the rest of my family. nuts! we've been dating for almost 7 months now, and i don't know when is the right time to do stuff like this? i'm not a very good adult. but we are pretty serious about each other, so i guess as long as it feels right.

i got this skirt from asos on sale, and now i can't stop wearing it. i was eyeing it on the american apparel website before i saw it on asos, so i was stoked to get it for less than $20.

i am still working at the nursery, which means i'm an ~official~ employee, seeing as how now we are well into winter. it's so very slow and cold working outside there, but i do enjoy it. spring will then come and we will be super packed with a bunch of fresh faces. the boyfriend went with me to my work party (that's actually where we met, we used to work together), and it was nice to see everyone out of polo shirts and jeans.

we have successfully made it into october in terms of outfits! it was still a little too warm to be wearing cardigans, but this day in particular, i had gotten out of school or work early, and got dressed to photograph michael and go eat dinner. he's been such a good sport for me this semester, being the subject of numerous projects. but we will get to that a bit later.

i love this dress. the side buttons may be near impossible to button, but i'm so glad i got this one at the last minute during the modcloth last hurrah sale. it has a slight sheen, or sparkle to it in light. i wasn't sure how to wear it this day. because it wasn't cold, and i really imagined it with a mustard cardigan, but that's still something i don't own.

right after taking these photos, i took the lipstick off. it used to be something i wore a lot more often, but now it doesn't feel like me as much. but i do miss it.

now, to add some recent and present light onto my life, this past weekend i had that craft fair i mentioned! i did well! better than i thought i would seeing as how i had never shown around here. this is definitely something i am going to keep doing. michael (the boyfriend) attended with me and was the best. he dealt with me being weird and anxious very well, and manned the booth well enough on his own so i could go walk around and talk to people and warm up (we were in the shade the whole day).

this outfit is from september. that's all i have to say about that. this semester has been the worst the the best all at the same time. i've been working about 30ish hours a week since it started, along with taking 5 classes, this blog has seen better days.

right now i am currently preparing for a craft fair! i usually do one the saturday after thanksgiving, but it was cancelled this year. so i found one in sacramento, and i am going to try my hand at it. you can visit my etsy shop, in which i am selling these items at the craft fair.

this outfit was simple, and perfect for the hot september days we were having. lately, it's cooled off enough for me to wear tights and cardigans and sometimes a coat. i've been enjoying spending my free time from school and work with my boyfriend. he's kind of the best thing ever.

i hope everyone had a good thanksgiving. i went home and visited my parents, and went target shooting! there will be photos eventually.

i bought this plain white t shirt from everlane, where i also got my tote bag from. and it's very soft, but i have a hard time with plain t shirts. and i haven't worn this since, but i plan on breaking it out very soon. they were just out of any of the other colors i would've worn more, and i should've gotten a medium, not a large like they said.

now this post took me a long time to get up. but i wanted to make sure i was completely done with everything before i finished it.

i was contacted by glasses usa to do a product review. but i was not just sent glasses. i was sent a giftcard code so i would go through the entire process like any other person.

it all started out okay, i got the code, and i had picked out glasses, waited a little too long (i get busy what can i say) and the giftcode expired! the person i was in contact with has been more than happy to fix that and work with me, so she did, and i picked out a pair of glasses:

i was pretty excited! they looked adorable on the screen, and i had just dealt with firmoo and the quality of those were awesome! so i expected even better from glasses usa.

but unlike with firmoo, after i entered my prescription, glasses usa needed to verify it, and instead of emailing me first, they called my phone (which is a huge pet peeve of me with companies, especially when i order online!) and i don't answer numbers i don't know, and i rarely listen to voicemails, so that added a couple extra days onto it before i could find the scanned copy of my prescription and email it to them.

when i did get the package i was so excited! i went to go try them on right away. and i took these photos right as i was opening the box.

they came in such a nice little case and everything.

but this is where the unfortunate stuff starts,

first, they were CROOKED. this happens to me a lot with cheaper glasses. they don't sit straight on my face. but i did not have a problem with that at all with the pair from firmoo.

if you can see here, my fingers are not even on the same level.

so i started going about the process to return them. there is no reason to keep glasses (especially when i spent extra on them) that do not work for me. i looked all over the website, and they say:

i could not find a return service area, but instead i had to go to customer service, and contact them, and wait for a reply. then they did not initially start the return process. instead asked me if there was anything else i could do for them (which i understand, but start it, and ask that in the same email). and when they created a 'return ticket' for me, it also had an expiration date! so of course, being me, i did not get to it in time, so i had to pay for return shipping back to them, even with their 365 day return policy. so i sent it off, emailed them. then there was some more stuff that happened where they said they hadn't gotten my glasses i returned, and could only offer me store credit, but with an email back saying i did not want store credit, because i would not be shopping at their online retailer anymore, they somehow got the glasses and returned the money i had spent extra (beyond the gift card) on the glasses.

so in the end, this company was not for me. it seems i am unable to operate within their time frame of purchasing and returning glasses, and i was not satisfied with the product. i know i'm not the only one who did not have a positive experience this company, i don't want to say now, don't try this company, but do so at your own risk, and make sure you have time to deal with it! i didn't, so it caused unnecessary problems.

but, if you're willing, they constantly have sales, including currently, getting half off, plus free shipping.

as i make this post, obama has just been re-elected president of the united states.

it is safe to say i am very pleased.

i've been really awful about actually taking the time to take photographs of my outfit, other than instagram, and then take the time to edit and post them. but i am trying. i'm finally getting the hang of my schedule, even though the semester is halfway over. i've been going back to the gym, doing surprisingly well on things in class, and learning new/old photographic techniques (cyanotypes/van dyke).

today was nearly 80 degrees here, but the end of the week should be 60s. but what i am most excited for is friday and saturday. friday, my boyfriend and i are going to go see delta spirit! my favorite band of ever, and his newly appointed top band. we haven't done anything fun or roadtrip-y yet, so i'm excited. and saturday, i asked for the day off so i can sleep in, and hang out with him, and just do normal things that people who get days off get to do. i am very excited.

I've got a plethora of posts I can make. I've been so busy focusing on school, work, boyfriend, sleep, that I haven't been posting right after taking photos, or even that week, or month. I believe I wore this to go get the keys for when I was housesitting. The boyfriend and I probably also ate some food. Because sometimes we go outside.

But I do remember that I bought this dress right before my sister left for Montana. We tend to go shopping together, and I've been getting some of my favorite things when I go with her.

the dress itself is different from what i normally wear. white lace on top of black. with a pompom trim? it was cute and makes me think of the circus. also, the boyfriend thinks it's cute. and i apologize for the strangeness of colors in these photos.

because i'm terrible at doing things on time, here is my outfit from my first day of classes this semester. i joked with my boyfriend about wearing all black, because it was was a reflection of my 'soul', and that wearing a smiths shirt will get me all the friends. truth is, i don't have many friends, or am i very good at making them. but i think i'm a pretty good friend, once you got me.

i've had this shirt since i was a very rebellious 16 year old (lip ring! pink hair!). and i gained a lot of weight post high school, and it didn't fit me. and it was always my goal to have it fit again. and last time i went to my parents, i grabbed a box of old clothes (band shirts), and then tried it on a couple days before these photos. now i have to resist wearing it all the time. favorite shirt then, one of my favorites now.

i treated myself to this steal of a giant tote bag from everlane right before school started, and now i'm obsessed with it. it is so filthy now, and i've used it nearly every day since this photo was taken. it went from being stiff to soft and malleable. it is pretty much perfect, and comes in other colors, and is only $35 dollars.

i also got sent these glasses free from firmoo as a part of a promotion they are doing where you can get free glasses! yes, free glasses, from them. i picked out their tortoise shell ones, and for the price (or free) they are amazing! they feel sturdy, came in a hard case, a cleaning cloth, and a soft drawstring bag. so much better than another pair of glasses i am going to review later. right before i got these glasses, i broke my bonlook honeybadger frames. i've since glued them, but i'm always on the lookout for cute vintage-esque frames that don't break the bank.

i've been having fall dreams since august. making purchases i knew would look lovely with cardigans and sweaters. anxiously awaiting cinnamon and spice flavored things. the beginning of october here was still in the 90s (and a couple 100 degree days), but now it has become a high of mid 70s, and i am ever so grateful. i can walk to class without sweating, i can wear my fleece to work, hot tea makes sense again.

today instead of sitting in the design lab at school and scanning negatives like normal, i went to target and went grocery shopping. found some burgundy pants on clearance i'm interested in trying out, and a new cardigan. i still haven't found THE PERFECT CARDIGAN that works with every outfit, and doesn't fall apart after 6 months. so target ones will have to do. i'm trying to take it easy when i know i can, because i felt myself wearing down fast.

the boyfriend and i have been watching community (rewatching for me, all new to him), and it's my favorite thing to do. have him sleep over and cuddle, and in the morning make coffee and listen to records. not much can beat that.

i actually wore this when we went to go see paranorman in theaters! which is an adorable film, not long after we made it officially official.

i am still alive. since my last post, over a month ago:

school has started! that has mostly been what is keeping me busy. i am going to school 4 days a week, and taking 15 units. so school takes up most of my time.
still also working at the nursery! which is great! i was worried i would have been let go already. but so far, so good. but that's another 25ish hours a week/4 days a week as well, so that takes up the rest of my time.
the boy i spoke of is my boyfriend now, and he is the best in all of the land, and i spend any chance i get between work and schoolwork, with him. this means, i've barely been blogging, let alone, having time to photograph my outfits. they've all been happening over on instagram, but that's about it.

this outfit i wore back in JULY and it was for a guest post over at of corgis and cocktails. my sister came down to stay with me for a few days. we went to the zoo, and hung out with the boyfriend and his friends. and it was relatively chilly at night, so i was wearing more layers than i get to wear now.

does this indian summer we are clearly having in california bother anyone else? i literally am at a loss for what to wear. i had planned to be donning tights and cardigans now. but i'm still in cut offs and high school band shirts. what gives?

i'm still alive. it's been overly hot here in northern california, so i didn't ever want to stand outside and take outfit photos, that's for sure. it's starting to cool down (for now). i'm still working at the garden nursery. i feel like i've been working a lot of days, but not a lot of hours. hours are getting cut because of the changing of the seasons (spring is the main event for them). i'm not sure if i'll be kept through the winter, but i'll find out soon enough.

i wore this post a day at work, i got let go early because it was very slow. the boy and i went to go eat at this place called pronto. i think it was the first place we went out to eat together. i got the exact same thing i got the time before, their black and blue portobello sandwich. mmm. i really like food. this outfit was boy approved as well. it felt nice to spend time and do my hair and makeup, even if i was tired (it shows on my face). we then attempted to watch the life aquatic, but didn't get very far.

oh yeah, clothes. i recently hemmed this skirt, i wore it before, and i like it a lot more now. plus, look at my shoes!

so this is what i wore on my birthday (the 5th). i thrifted this princess-y dress months back, for $5. and it was totally worth it. it even has POCKETS. if you know me at all, you know how i feel about pockets. i love them. my friend javi came up and took me to brunch, and then we went down to old sacramento for a bit. later in the evening i ate pizza with some more friends. it was low key, but also nice. i had already gone out for food and a movie with anita, and then my parents are coming this weekend to probably go eat more food. if you can't tell, i like food.

i also wore a ribbon in my hair, which made me feel like a disney princess.

my birthday didn't feel like a birthday this year. i turned old (25), and the boy was out of town (on the oregon coast, boo that whore). but nice friends make days nice. and so does delicious food and mimosas.

remember dashboard confessional? now that i listen to his voice, it is awfully whiny and not in a tolerable way at all anymore. but hands down, is a great song still.

my birthday was yesterday! i will have some photos coming from that real soon. my old friend javi came to visit me, and we did brunch, and some minor exploring of sacramento. then i went and ate late night pizza with the few friends i have here. the boy i like is in oregon, but i can't wait until he gets back!

sometimes i try to do something different with what i wear. then i hate it. i don't think this shirt is going to stay in my wardrobe any longer, but that's what this blog is good for. i can see how things look on me, and know when to get rid of them. i've been cleansing my closet a lot. first when tiara was here, and again to create a 'shop my closet' blog shop! i've only got a few pieces in there, but i have a good handful more to go still. hopefully i'll get to doing that later tonight. also! i finally got a new sewing machine (those who follow me on instagram know this). i thrifted it for $30, and it works very well. so i've been throwing some new tampon pouches together. i'm just happy to be able to create things again. work has been slowing down (ending of the season) and i don't think i'll have it much longer at all.

i recently went back home to visit my parents/family for my mom's birthday. i didn't take any photos. at all. in fact, my camera never even made it out of my bag. but i had a nice time. lots of silly times with my newly giant little brother (he's nearly as tall as me, i'm 5'9"), walks with my mom, and a FULL GAME OF MONOPOLY. it took us 3.5 hours. my sister and i painted our nails, and my mom french braided our hair while we listened to the 90s pop station on pandora and sang along to britney spears. i have no shame.

but before that, i wore this outfit to go to the drive in with some boy to watch the new spiderman movie, and prometheus. i really liked spiderman. i don't really ~get alien movies. but i watched the whole thing. i've worn this outfit kinda sorta once before. i just really like the peach with the colors of the skirt. plus my cute new hair barrette i got from charlavail's store. i like supporting artists that are working towards something. her tumblr is kind of inspirational. she wants to open an art space/confectionary kind of thing. plus, skulls in mint green.

i'm currently sitting in pincurls, listening to the "90s alternative" station on pandora, sippin' on diet coke. today is my day off, and i got a slower start than what i wanted to, but i already went on a 5 mile walk, and watched one too many episodes of toddlers and tiaras (i cannot explain my fascination with that show, but thanks netflix). my plans for the rest of the day will hopefully involve some hand sewing and cleaning. i've been sorting my piles into new piles and it's time to make things less pile-y.

also, how great is the latest beach house album?

i got this dress on sale, and with a gift card i won with a lame joke (or two), and then with a coupon code from emerging thoughts. it's a dear creatures dress, and it's not entirely 'perfect'. but i just like the plaid and the color combination. i switched out the rope belt it came with it for a black ribbon one. and right after i took these photos, it cooled down immensely and i threw on a cardigan and knee socks, then i loved it. i can't wait to wear it with tights and more sweaters. this summer is only making me miss fall. and my shoes! 'sunday school shoes' (moonrise kingdom reference). i've been wanting some for a while, and until i can commit to buying some nice bass ones, these payless numbers will have to do.

sometimes i get so inexplicably sad. i wish i understood why. it's like anxiety creeps up on me whenever i'm alone. i shake my leg until i forget what i'm doing, or i bite off my nails one by one in public. i try to concentrate on sewing, books, music, or a silly television show but i can't. like my mind races off in another direction without me and i'm left sitting here wondering what's going on.

maybe it's the heat (currently 101 F), maybe it's nothing. but it always FEELS like something. even if it's nothing (it is nothing).

i got this dress from little miss amber, over at modest june. i'm unreasonably tall, so it's a little short, but adorable, blue, and has pockets. so i don't mind. i wore this outfit to sit inside and sew, develop some film (i updated my flickr here), and go and visit some boy. i changed my shoes three times while wearing this. and even ended up with tights on for a brief while. i can't make up my mind. fickle little lady.

as someone who occasionally puts vintage clothes on etsy, i have piles and heaps of clothes. i've gotten pretty terrible at updating that thing, even though i REALLY REALLY want to. but instead, i've taken to going through it and trying on clothes i bought for spare change and seeing if they fit me now, months later. and a lot of them do. i had bought this shirt a few months ago, and i decided to wash a few handfuls of vintage, and i randomly tried this one on. and now it's mine forever. because it's awesome. it goes quite well with the skirt i refuse to take off.

since both my machines are broken, i've reverted back to sewing by hand. it's nice, and comforting, and i can take things with me, but i still miss the quickness in which my machine can operate. things that take me an hour, would have only taken me a minute on my sewing machine. and it also means, that i can't finish the resizing of other vintage clothes that i wanted to. hard knock life, obviously.

the days are warming again. i've started a new book with the purest of intentions. i just want to make the most of my days, and walk away feeling i did something.

i don't really know how to talk about clothes. this is a t-shirt. it is from a band i really really love. i can't stop wearing this skirt. and i really like the coral color of this belt and bows. the simplicity pleases me.

by the way! i'm super proud of kater of all this happiness for being named modcloth's blogger of the moment! i've read her blog front to back (allll the way back) and she is one of my favorite ladies of the internet. congrats girl! it is well deserved.

i've been picking records out of my collection to listen to. usually i'll listen to them for a few hours, the same record. sometimes for a day, sometimes for a week. this day in particular it was islands - return to the sea, then vetiver - to find me gone. even though i was feeling bored most of the day, now that i think of it, laying around listening to records, sipping on tea, and half reading bukowski is how most days should go. i should try to embrace it and revel in it, rather than be thinking about what i'm not doing.

having days off of work is so strange to me. i'm used to school work school work work work. i started sewing, then broke both my machines. i just need to figure out my new project that i can make or do that doesn't require my machines. until they are fixed at least.

i've been spending quite a bit of time with someone who i fancy quite a bit. it's comfortable and unnerving all at the same time.

these photos are from when tiara was here. for her very brief visit. but it was lovely. we half cleaned my room, i gave her tons of my old clothes that no longer fit me, and that she is starting to fit into (proud of this girl). we were going to go to the drive-in, but we underestimated the time. and went to bed early. it was lovely.

i've been trying to get inspired to make new things. i have these ideas, but it's so hard to put them into fruition. i've been doing little doodles and sketches. for things like owls with scalloped wings, and monsters with long limbs. hopefully the push i need comes soon.

i wore this outfit to go to a breakfast, which ended up being a brunch lunch kind of deal. and it was the best and lovely. i can't stop wearing this skirt. and i see no reason why i should.

i've read the first ten pages of a book, i have made one characteristically crooked stuffed animal (working on a second), went to the drive-in, and dyed my hair since i last updated. while, these photos are the precursor to these events, this was probably one of my favorite things i've worn in a long time. i can't wait to duplicate it with cardigans and tights in the fall.

my friend tiara is supposed to come see me this coming week, and i am very excited for this! she's down from portland for the month, and i don't know how much we will actually get to see each other, seeing as how we are still located 90 miles away from each other, but she's going to stay with me for a day and night and i could really use some bff/girl time with her.
