Prince was born an epileptic, just like me! We're twins....also I am wearing my Prince t-shirt today.

Iowa court upholds ruling; marriage no longer limited to one man, one woman | DesMoinesRegister.com | The Des Moines Register: "The Iowa Supreme Court this morning unanimously upheld gays’ right to marry.

“The Iowa statute limiting civil marriage to a union between a man and a woman violates the equal protection clause of the Iowa Constitution,” the justices said in a summary of their decision.

The court rules that gay marriage would be legal in three weeks, starting April 24."

Today we celebrate the day the Greeks delcared they would have "Liberty or Death" from the Ottoman Empire. The Ottoman Turks controlled Greece, as well as Egypt, Bulgaria, and parts of Romania, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Ukraine, Syria, Croatia, Bosnia, Albania, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Tunisia, Georgia and Palestine. Their influence was widespread and oppressive. The Greek nationalists were the first to officially break away from the Empire, after over 400 years of occupation.

My favorite figure in the Greek War for Independence is Laskarina Boubalina. Born in Ottoman prison, Boubalina rose to become a heroine of the revolution. After her second husband died fighting Algerian pirates(!), she took over his fortune and began building ships, including the Agamemnon warship at her own expense. After the Ottoman government tries to sieze her property, she joined the Filikia Etairia (Friendly Society) that had formed in an effort to gain independence for Greece. She personally purchased and transported weapons and ammunitions secretly in her ships. She bribed Turkish officials to ignore the size of her warship. She eventually organized her own brigade of troops, that she physically led into battle.
And unlike what most men would do in her position, she saved most of the women from the Ottoman Sultan's palace when it was sacked. An all around baddass female.

Unfortunatelty after independence, Boubalina was merked in a family fued (damn Greeks!). Though after being shot right in the chest, she badassly said "Help me stand, I want to see the sea before I die."

Also, my first dog was named Bouba for her.

I think we’re asking if a person is more masculine or feminine. After all, don’t we stereotype women as cat people and men as dog people? And don’t we think men with cats are a little femmy or, at minimum, sweeter than most… even, maybe, gay? And don’t we imagine that chicks with dogs are a little less girly than most, a little more rough and tumble? The cat person/dog person dichotomy is gendered.

And, have you ever noticed that being a dog person is sort of cooler? Like, it’s cool to be a dog person, but less cool to be a cat person? I mean, no one ever fears ending up a “crazy dog lady,” and it’s not just because of the lack of alliteration. You see because gender is hierarchical, so is the dog person/cat person dichotomy."

ROSARIO DAWSON: Harley Quinn. Now THAT would be fun. I’d have to really transform myself, which could be really, really fun. You don’t see too many female villains that aren’t like Poison Ivy, where they’re just really sexy but not much otherwise. Harley is such an off-base kind of girl, she is in that same sort of Batman/Joker insanity.

I love playing women who are strong, and characters that have these great convictions and do the right thing. I’m always 100 percent behind that. But I also like to challenge myself to kind of go in the other direction and really explore what the opposite sort of incarnation would be, to look at a situation and think, “What’s the way I can reap the most harm.” You hit the most conflict when you’re approaching a situation trying to be good, and it would be really interesting and I think really freeing and liberating in some ways. The physicality of doing it would be an interesting exploration because you really can’t be too big or too full or too expressive when you’re creating mayhem and embracing chaos. There’s a flow that evil characters seem to get into sometimes that would be fun to play with, like when you’re playing a video game and you choose to be the character that’s most destructive. I wouldn’t want to be that in real life, I don’t want that legacy, I don’t want that reality, but it would be interesting to explore it in a manner like that, to see what it would feel like when that inner voice shuts off and you just kind of go with it. That would be a safe environment to explore the darker sides of myself."

Anyone who rides mass transit knows that we've got a crisis on our hands. Unless our leaders act now, we could soon face cuts to train and bus service and double-digit fare hikes. Even worse, there's no money for the vital transit rebuilding program, which makes it possible to buy new subway cars and buses, rehabilitate crumbling stations, and fix aging infrastructure, such as tracks and signals.

Albany legislators are working out a plan to fully and fairly fund mass transit, but some are prepared to let the entire plan die because it includes tolls. Make sure they understand that everyone – including drivers – benefits from a functioning transit system, so it's only fair that everyone should contribute to keeping New York on the move.

TAKE ACTION! Sign the Keep New York Moving petition."

I only realized TODAY, that these hikes go through on March 25! The monthly metro is going from $81 for 30 days to $103. This doesn't stimulate the economy as much as it puts the burden back on the already burdened middle and lower-middle classes who rely on public transport to get to work and to spend our money. Why can't our MTA get a nice slice o' that stimulus package?

And if all else fails, let's start walking our asses in NYC this summer...maybe I'll get a scooter.
