Google has added a fade in effect to its homepage. But it would better if we can hide links manually and other stuff other than the search box, so it would be a lot cleaner.

USB ports are becoming serious headaches to System Admins and ordinary PC owners. With USB ports open a system becomes vulnerable to outside virus/worm/trojan threats and corporate/personal data is in danger of theft. So, there are lots of ways to prevent USB ports, especially there are 3rd party fancy paid or free apps. But you can do this in just 1 minute. Just open the registry editor by typing “regedit” to run. Open the following path.

“HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet \Services\UsbStor”

In the right pane, double click on the “Start” and type “4″ in the Value field. That’s all. If you want to enable ports just change the value to “3″.

It has been 2 days using Ping. It really is useful. It is an alternative to SMS. It delivers messages through push technology. So you can use any internet connection (wifi, edge, 3g). Sure it will be a lot cheaper than SMS. The app was free when I downloaded it, but is now $ 0.99. It is worth trying if you want to lower phone bill.

Here is how. The idea is came into my mind in seconds. A few weeks before I have downloaded iPhone massage application from AppStore (free) for my neck pain, which can enables iPhone to continuosly or intermittently vibrate. While I was trying to discharge my iPhone battery to calibrate it, suddenly I have realized that it would be a nice idea to use the app. Battery was nearly %9 percent, and It has finished in minutes. By the way the app is completely useless until I find this idea You should know that Apple recommends you to fully discharge and recharge iPhone battery once a month (this prolongs the battery time.) and you have to replace your battery after 400 total discharge-recharge period.

1- One heaping tea spoon Nescafé.
2- 6 oz of water (177 ml) at 90-95 celcius.
3- Stir and enjoy.

Water quality is crucial, %99 of its is water. Water Temperature should be slightly less than boiling. Optionally you may add hot milk or creme. Please share your tips

USB Fan that does not worth a penny !

Just sometime ago, I have ordered an usb fan from dealextreme to chill my self in melting summer days, take a look at the following pictures it just doesn’t do much, nothing but an irritating sound and a continuos buzzing. Pfff, Just do not buy! Or buy as a gift to someone that annoys you.

Query:

inurl:”nph-proxy.cgi” “Start browsing”

You may alternate this query to obtain different results. Critical keyword is “inurl” as you may have noticed. It searches the desired phrase in the urls. Play with it, you will be surprised.

Long Break

After a long break (unplanned), I’m starting to write again, during this break, I did have chance to finish many things, like my first publication, which is being prepared to be published by Springer Lecture Notes, and it is titled as “A Local Behavior Identification Algorithm for Generative Network Automata Configurations”. Previously I have attended to ECAL 2009 10th European Conference on Artificial Life which was held in Budapest (I’m planning to share some more photos from my visit). Currently I’m struggling with my master thesis. From now on I’ll be posting new stuff more frequently, (I have started to use iPhone Wordpress application). So stay alive

Eye Floaters & Treatment

What are Eye floaters?
-Cellular Debris which were detached from retina to vitreous gel.

Are they harmful?
-No they are not, in some cases, floater numbers are increased in a short time, and this may be a sign of a retinal problem. (Tears and etc…)

Are there any pills/medicine/eye drops to cure/diminish the floaters?
-No, there isn’t any medicine yet

What are the causes?
-There are many causes for eye floaters,

Diseases
Stress
Bright Lights (for ex: laser pointers, any light that damages retina)
Hard Activities (Weight lifting etc…)
Cigarette
Laser Surgery

Do they diminish over time?
-There is no answer for this, because sometimes they disappear, sometimes not.

Are there any treatments for eye floaters?
-Yes, vitrectomy is the answer. But doctors do not prefer vitrectomy except the cases that patient has lots of them. They tell you to ignore and how to live with them. Also vitrectomy has many complications and risks. In most cases a cataract operation needed after vitrectomy surgery. Also there is a laser treatment for floaters, but they just divide the floaters into very small pieces, they don’t diminish totally, many people had complained about that those small pieces are worse and more irritating than the big ones.

At Which ages eye floaters begin to appear?
-In generally, eye floaters are part of aging, but there are many people have them from very early ages. (Childhood/teenage)

I am 24 years old, and have lots of eye floaters. I’m trying to live with them and sometimes it is so difficult to ignore them.

Would open source operating systems be an alternative to Microsoft?

Free software is a sort of misnomer. It is a matter of liberty rather than the price. It is essentially about freedom to users to copy, distribute, change or improve the software. Access to source code is essential to achieve this.This debate on whether Microsoft offers a better and stable operating system or a free operating system developed by Linux, Fedora or Ubuntu would make better option, is being fuelled by growing perception about Microsoft being greedy.

No doubt, for a long time, in mid nineties, when there was no credible substitute for its products, it tried to manipulate the market to the extent possible. It was the first major software company to enhance software upgrade charges to 50% against 20% which was industry norm. Standard practice of Microsoft had been to add features to its software that would put its competitors out of the business and later on selling those as add-on features.

Free open source operating systems were perceived as answer to Microsoft’s perceived greedy attitude. Free software was started as ethical movement as constructive alternative to Microsoft’s growing monopoly.

Spike the Digg at your own peril

Digg, launched in December 1994, is a community based website that allows users to rank the stories they like to the home page or to “bury it to death” the stories they do not like. The more the numbers of diggs that a story receives, the higher it ranks. Its promoters earlier wanted to call the site “Diggnation”, but for choosing a simpler name, they settled for Digg. They could not take the domain “dig” as the same was owned by Walt Disney Internet Group.

Digg bought a site that was engaged in “Spiking the Digg” as it felt that it would be worth to jump at the opportunity to shut down a scheme that attempts to undermine the legitimacy of Digg’s voting system. If you are a member of any such spiking community, tomorrow Digg could have all your activity known and your site could be penalized by Digg.

Silent growth in Google’s monolopy

Google has alleged that Microsoft’s Windows Vista’s desktop searching is virtually impossible to be turned off and thus it adversely affects non Microsoft search index program’s capability. Microsoft has denied the allegation. The outcome of the case is awaited. The moot question here is if a business giant like Google is not entirely free from evil effects Microsoft’s monopoly, what would be the fate of small businesses?

The real protest is not against the quality of the product, but rather how it behaves. The problems with monopolistic approach of these companies gets compounded when they are able to rig the laws with impunity.

Linux and BSD – Why so segregated?

BSD is a version of Unix developed at University of California, Berkley. It is compatible for x86, AMD64, ULTRASPARC architectures and compatibility with some additional platforms is in advanced stage of development. It is known for some of its cutting edge features as advanced networking, security, compatibility which are not there even in some of the best commercial operating systems. Its features make it preferable to even commercial Unix workstations. Any one can contribute to BSD through a committer.

However, despite the large number of similarities between BSD and Linux, there are equally large numbers of differences. These differences have resulted into many deep seated disagreements. Principally the differences emerge from disagreement over development methodology.

If you are new to blogging , probably you don’t know that every niche’s earning is different. So the quest in your mind is to start with which topic ? You should remember that you would better write about topics that you know very well. But again this depends on what you are aiming. If you are good at your area, it will take time before you draw some serious attention. Be patient.

1 )Earn money from best earning niches. (MoneyComes First)

2) Write about something that you know about. (Real blogging)

As you can realize, I don’t aim at earning, I write about things that I enjoy. But you may want to target at earnings.

Do jobs in open source programming suck?

Recent CNN Money survey pointed out interesting results that while expert users of .NET get higher initial salaries and hefty annual increments that can go up to 15%, open source programmers get only modest hike of just two percent. A debate has been raging in the IT community as to why do .NET programmers get better salary than the open source programmers.

The debate, intentionally or unintentionally, seems to be working in favor of Microsoft, who obviously has vested interest in promoting ASP.NET. RedHat, Zope, and IBM are known as excellent paymasters to open source programmers and scout for talented programmers from open source community.
