Free Apple Computer Camp for kids ages 8-12

2013-06-19T09:44:00.002-04:00

Apple Stores across the nation are offering kids ages 8-12 an opportunity to make movie magic! Go HERE and search for an Apple store near you offering the camp and you can sign your child up for a 3 day, 1.5 day session. The camp teaches kids how to shoot their own footage, create an original song in GarageBand on iPad, and put it all together on iMovie on a Mac. The campers will then debut their masterpieces at the Apple Camp Film Festival the last day of camp. This is a great way for the kids to hone their computer skills and have fun doing it! There is also no pressure for you to buy any Apple products if you don't already own some.

Day one of camp:

Get an introduction to the basics of moviemaking, including creating a storyboard.
Create an original soundtrack by making a song in GarageBand on an iPad.
Prepare for shooting footage outside the store overnight or inside the store at the end of the workshop.

On day one, Apple Camp also includes an optional, one-hour Parents Workshop that will focus on using and setting parental controls on the Mac. Registration is not required.

Day two of camp:

Get an introduction to iMovie — simple-to-use moviemaking software.
Use a Mac to import and edit collected movie footage, incorporating stills and music.
Create a film.

With guidance from Apple Camp Counselors, kids will use iMovie — part of the iLife suite of creativity applications built into every Mac — to create, edit, and produce their films.

Day three of camp:

Film Festival

Kids will have the opportunity to showcase their movies to invited parents, relatives, and friends. Participation in the festival is optional. Campers can take their completed movies home at the end of day two, if they prefer.

Target Summer Toy Clearance: eyes open for this Thursday to go 70% off

2012-07-08T20:16:00.000-04:00

Target has two really big toy clearances in a year. One results in 70% off lots of different toys in February (clearing out of extra Christmas stock) and 70% off in July (to make room for new stock in time for Christmas). I am guessing (and past Target history) shows this Thursday should be the day it goes (most, maybe not all) 70% off. So you might want to check them out this Thursday (Thursday's are the mark down day for toys) to see what you can score (great way to save $ for birthday presents and Christmas presents).

**UPDATE 7/12: No go this week on majority of clearance going 70% off. I am guessing it will be next week.

My Allure Beauty Box came!

2012-05-04T16:40:00.001-04:00

I got my Allure Beauty Box that I posted about on April 24th yesterday by UPS. So excited! It was filled with full size goodies! And I can honestly say I can use everything in the box. There was only one downfall-one of the nail polishes was broken in the box. It got on a few things but I can still use them. I will probably contact Allure about the broken bottle to see if they will replace it or not.

Here is what was in the box for $50 (shipped):
Aloxxi Colourcare Leave-in Conditioner
Biore Combination Skin Balancing Cleanser
Burt's Bees Lip Shimmer
Cerave Sa Renewing Lotion
Cetaphil Dermacontrol Oil Control Foam Wash
Cetaphil Dermacontrol Oil Control Moisturizer SPF 30
Clean and Clear Morning Burst Skin Brightening Facial Cleanser
Dr. Lewinn By Kinerase Instant Dermal Wrinkle Filler
Fekkai Glossing Cream
Gillette Venus And Olay Razor
Jergens Natural Glow and Protext Daily Moisturizer with SPF 20
John Freida Frizz-Ease Sheer Solution Lightweight Frizz Control for Fine to Medium Hair
John Freida Full Repair Style Revival Heat-Activated Styling Spray
John Freida Sheer Blonde Go Blonder Controlled Lightening Spray
Miss Nail Lacquer (this is the one that was broken)
Neutrogena Pure and Free Liquid Daily Sunblock SPF50
Neutrogena Moistureshine Lip Soother
ORLY Nail Lacquer
Oscar Blandi Pronto Dry Shampoo Spray
Pantene Pro-V Shampoo and Conditioner
Pureology Perfect 4 Platinum Miracle Filler Treatment
Redken Powder Refresh hair powder/dry shampoo
Tantowel Look Good Naked Self-Tan Towelette

They seem to do these boxes at least twice a year, so keep a look out for the next time they offer them, because it really is a good deal if you use this type of stuff (although during other seasons, the products change to reflect the season).

Target to clearance Kindle's starting tomorrow

2012-05-02T16:19:00.002-04:00

According to varied sources around the web and MSN.com (see here and here and here for sources), Target has decided to no longer carry Amazon's line of Kindles and instead focus on Apple's products. You can bet that the beginning markdown will be no more than 30%. At 30% off its still a good deal, but if people don't buy these up at 30% off, it will be an even sweeter deal at 50% off! But if you are in the market for a Kindle tomorrow may be a good day to pick one up less than its normal retail value!
