I agree with comments here, so I'll make mine brief. If you are going to buy a telescope for a beginner, do NOT buy this one. I should have taken this back for a reflective telescope, but it was a gift to my daughter (not from me). Ease of use and brilliance of object is everything to a young astronomer. Get something recommended for surfing the planets. Don't trust the pictures on the box, or buy it for the gadgets. Also, light collection is more important than magnification.

Nothing will kill a beginning astronomer's interest quicker than this flimsy "department-store" telescope. Never buy a telescope based solely on claims like "420x!". The highest magnification this telescope can realistically provide under the best of viewing conditions is about 50-60x per inch of aperture, or 120-140 power in this case. Light-gathering ability is by far the most important consideration when purchasing a telescope. A much better choice for a first scope would be a 4-inch dobsonian mounted reflecting telescope, available for just a few more dollars; you DO get what you pay for.

This scope is NOT a good starter scope for anyone interested in astronomy. Here's why:

1. The objective is too small, only 60 mm, 2.36 inches, so it is too small to bring in the light necessary for even a beginning look at the universe. I suppose it is adequate for the moon, but that is it. The planets will appear as very small disks. One will be able to see Saturn's rings, but the image will be very small. Forget it for deep sky objects, clusters, galaxies, etc.

2. The mount is an altazimuth, which will not follow the celestial object in the sky. The earth is rotating, and anyone focusing on a star or moon will quickly find the object drifting out of the field of vision. A better mount is an equatorial mount which makes it much easier to track objects.

3. The mount will vibrate when touched, which will cause the image in the eyepiece to "shiver", which is very frustrating.

Bushnell's Deep Space Series 675 x 4.5-Inch Reflector Telescope is a classic Newtonian reflector telescope with an equatorial mount and aluminum tripod. With its 4.5-inch primary mirror, this telescope has more than double the light gathering power of 76mm reflectors, and three times more than 60mm beginner scopes. The package includes three 1.25" size eyepieces (H20mm, H12.5mm, and SR4mm), a 3x Barlow lens, and a 5x24 optical finder scope.

Some assembly is required: I needed a Phillips screw driver and a small wrench to put the tripod together. The assembly process was not difficult, which is good because the instruction manual is not well illustrated. When I got the telescope assembled I noticed that the mirrors had become slightly misaligned during shipping. I used my own Collimation Tool to fine tune the optics. The reward for aligning the mirrors is sharp images of the moon and planets, even when I use the 4mm eyepiece for a magnification of 225x.

Bushnell's Deep Space 4.5-inch reflector includes three eyepieces and a 3x Barlow lens. The H20 eyepiece magnifies the image by 45x, just right for viewing the lunar disk. The H12.5 eyepiece (72x) helps to zoom in on the moon and planets. When the night air is still and clear, the 3x Barlow and H20 eyepiece can be combined for 135x magnification, and the SR4 eyepiece gives 225x which is close to the maximum reasonable power for a scope this size. Unfortunately, these economy grade eyepieces have a narrow field of view and don't seem very sharp. The low power H20 eyepiece, for example, doesn't have a wide enough field of view to take in all seven bright stars of the Pleiades or Seven Sisters cluster. The good news, however, is that eyepieces are easy to upgrade. An inexpensive 25mm plossl eyepiece has double the true field of view compared to the H20 eyepiece, making it easier to find and track objects in the night sky. This simple upgrade turns the Seven Sisters into a beautiful star cluster sprinkled edge to edge with dozens of tiny stars!

The best entry level telescopes have three qualities: decent optics, a steady mount, and good eyepieces. Bushnell's Deep Space 4.5-inch Reflector Telescope delivers two out of three at a bargain price. I suggest adding a collimation tool and at least one modern plossl eyepiece to make this a bargain you'll really enjoy. --Jeff Phillips

This was a great purchase. My first telescope. I've been looking to buy one for years, but couldnt find an affordable, yet, powerful telescope. This was the one. I have gotten it for a month. I'm very happy about it. It came with several upgrades, (1) it was 0.996 inch eyepiece, now 1.25 inch, (2) new aluminum tripod, not hardwood tripod, (3) Amazon shipped it as next-day dilivery.
It's easy to assemble, but you have to balance the tube itself, then balance it with counter-weight. A beginner and/or intermediate astronomer should knows it. I don't see any problem. Don't lock those nuts when you move/transport it, a beginner and/or intermediate astronomer should knows it too. Not heavy, it's only a 4.5-inch.
H type or SR type eyepiece is cheap, but you got 3 eyepieces. The similar products from Celestron only provide H20 only. The 3x borlow is not necessary when you have 3 eyepieces, H20, H12, SR4. The pratical limit for a 4.5-inch is 225x, just about the SR4. You won't gain any to use the borlow with SR4, except you could use it at daytime for a upside down image. I bought this as a gift for a friend. We spent two weeks trying to figure out why we couldn't see anything in the lens. We gave up today and returned it.

The directions are good for putting it together, but there is NOTHING in the directions on how to use or troubleshoot. The Bushnell website and calls to their helpline were also of NO USE.

I would NOT recommend this telescope to a novice or anyone for that matter. It was more frustration than anything!

This is the HDMI cable to get right now: an HDMI 1.4 cable at a good price.

HDMI 1.4 is the latest standard (as of November 2010 at least). It is backward compatible with other HDMI gear (mine all are HDMI 1.3 compliant). And it will be more useful to you if your TV supports HDMI 1.4 networking. I was not able to test the Ethernet networking capability of this cable, but I think the idea behind it is a good one.

For my current home entertainment setup, I had to set up separate Internet connections on my TV, set top box, Blu-Ray player, and WD TV LIVE (HTPC). It would have been a lot easier if I could have just set up my TV's internet connection, and allow all of my components to share it. That's what HDMI 1.4 promises to let you do--as long as all of your hardware, including the cables, supports it. This cable will support that functionality; it's more "future-proof" than the HDMI 1.3 cables I have been using.

I hooked this braided HDMI cable between my HDTV and my computer to stream video from the internet to my HDTV. The picture is clear and the sound quality is very good. I don't see any difference while using this cable from computer to HDTV than I do when watching TV directly from my satellite box. The only problem I have with this cable is that it is very thick due to the braiding, which makes it hard to turn. I need to plug it into one side of my HDTV, loop it around the back of the TV and bring it out on the other side where I place my computer out of tripping range. The thickness of the cable makes it hard to loop around and it's heavier than the other cables I have. This cable would probably be best for professional use where there might be heavy usage and plugging and unplugging of the cord. It will probably stand the test of time and constant movement easier than the regular smooth vinyl cables. But, for normal home use, the vinyl cables are easier to handle... Read more

I have tried a number of different HDMI cables ranging from very cheap to extremely expensive. I have not found any difference in signal quality between the high priced name brands and the cheaper versions. Some of the cheaper cables did have issues with meeting the latest HDMI standards and that is where these Amazon cables fit in. These cables provide the latest HDMI standards along with the same performance as name brand cables. I have not tested the Ethernet capability but I know that it is there for future products that may need it. Why would you pay more when these cables provide the same functionality at a fraction of the cost?

UPDATE 9-10 I own 4 of these cards now. I have more of these than any other card I own because they are a very good value for capacity/price/and speed. My initial disappointment over the lack of super high speed is outweighed by the reality that this card is an exceptional value.

If you own a compact digital camera, or SD/HD video camera, this card will exceed the capabilities of all of them. For compact cameras the card isn't usually the slowest part of the data write process, it's the camera.
This card unloads very quickly with a 20MB/s read speed. You will need a SDHC card reader if you don't have one. A standard SD card reader will not read a HC (high capacity) card.

These cards make great gifts. I have given several of the 8 Gig cards as gifts and have received appreciation and great comments from all the recipients.

I purchased this for use with my new Canon T2i. I use it primarily for shooting full resolution 1080p video, although I shoot stills as well.

The camera choked on the class 4 chip that I originally purchased, but with this one, it is amazing. I can shoot rapidfire 18 megapixel stills (I've tested it up to 30+ shots in a row), and there is no lag. I've never had an error when shooting hi-def video.

I bought this card for my Canon T1i. The card I had been using before ordering this one was a Kingston Class 6 micro sd card and it worked well enough for the type of shooting I did. Class 6 was the card speed that Canon recommended when I bought my T1i (Class 10 cards were not yet available) and it seemed fast enough for the way I used my camera - isolated single photos taken at Medium (8 MP) or Large (15 MP) jpg settings and 1280 x 720 video. And while I ocassionally took continuous photos, I had never much exceeded 5-10 photos in a row and had never run into a problem with my Class 6 card.

When I first saw the Class 10 cards I did some experiments with my camera. How many continuous Large photos could I take before the camera slowed down? It turned out to be about 30. Just in case someone may feel guilty for not paying a lot more for, basically the same thing, let's look at our top of the line offer, Monster HDMI 1000HD Ultra-High Speed HDMI Cable (2 meters) and do a quick comparison.

This item supports the HDMI 1.3b standard which is almost as good as it gets (1.3c doesn't add anything special). Any HDMI 1.3 cable can carry up to 10.2 Gbit/s. Hmmm... I suppose the Monster is much better, right? Well... it "guarantees a certified cable bandwidth of 10.2" Okay, but the Monster also supports "x.v.Color, and Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD". These cables worked great for me...I'm getting 1080p@24hz no problem. My setup is a Samsung 52" LCD TV (LN52A650) and a Playstation 3. Save yourself a whole lot of money and don't get ripped off buying "Monster" or any other overpriced HDMI cable. Order processing, USPS shipping, and receipt in Texas was lightling fast(7 days). Order 2 while you're at it...someday you'll need another one!

Ok so I am a girl and I am not much of a techie but I didn't want to spend $100 on an HDMI cable. I came to Amazon and read a lot of the product reviews.

I first purchased the the HDMI cable from ClearAV, it was inexpesive and not the best product. It cost me a little over $4 for the item and S&H. I tested it on my upconverting Panasonic DVD player on 1080i resolution on my 40" 1080p Samsung LCD TV but it had poor signal quality and the cable was not an HDMI version 1.3. So when I played my DVDs the picture would go on and off and so would the sound and there was a flashing line on my screen. I got this HDMI cable for under $10 with shipping just to see whether it will work as well as the expensive ones and it was well worth the risk. I tested it with my upconverting LG DVD player on 1080i resolution on my 42" 1080p Westinghouse LCD TV (update 2009: now used for Blu-ray from PS3 to 46" Sony LCD TV) and it works just like any other HDMI cable, including those loud names who charge you ten-fold for "golden plated extra special micro gravity nanotechnology space age wireless high conductivity low noise extra gauge supercalafragilisticexpialidocious" cables with no difference in performance. By buying this cable I avoided the huge "naive citizen tax" included in these products. Considering its price, this is an amazingly good cable.

Me buy this cable. Me plug this cable between Sony PS3 and Philips 42" LCD TV. Sony PS3 say "HDMI Detected". TV say picture from source is "HDMI 1080p". Me point to Monster cables and laugh.

OK - here's the story. I was going to buy a Toshiba HDTV. I had picked it out already and was ready to purchase it and that was when I found a promotion at a local retailer that if I bought a Toshiba HDTV then I can get $200 off of any of the Toshiba HD DVD players. The HDA2 was normally $399 but was on sale for $299 and with the $200 off I got it for $99!! You can't beat that!

Well, I got that on Tuesday and it was an unexpected purchase. I asked the person at the store how much the HDMI cable would be so that I can hook it up as soon as I get home. He said, it's a Monster Cable and it costs $124.99! Whoa! I went up to the shelf and saw the sticker that said $124.99 on it and on the sticker it said "Financing Available"! What?! I'm not going to pay more for the cable than I did for the DVD player! These guys are crazy!

I told the guy "You are nuts if you think I'm going to pay that amount" and I logged onto Amazon and purchased this HDMI cable... Read more

As a proficient amateur astronomer, I was given an opportunity to play with this telescope at a friends house. My conclusion: it's not worth the money.

Here's why:
- only the azimuth axis has fine-tuning, there is NO fine tuning on the altitude axis! This is a serious design flaw which makes tracking any celestial object difficult to impossible. (the telescope has an alt-azi mount, not an equitorial mount).
- the telescope is unbalanced, i.e. when the altitude brake is released the telescope immediately drops the mirror end and points upwards. It requires support by hand to guide the telescope to the correct altitude.
- the tripod is light weight and has poor (as in no) vibration dampening properties. Combined with the akward distribution of weight in the telescope, any time you touch the telescope it vibrates wildly without settling down quickly (any gust of wind was easily detectible).
- the supporting eye-pieces are poor, they include 12.5, 9... Read more

I'm not even qualified to call myself an "amatuer" astronomer, but can easilly spot the flaws in the scope. I recieved it as a gift, and am sad it can't be returned. The biggest pain is that it's not balanced and has no elevation fine tuning. When you loosen the knob to change the elevation the telescope rapidly falls and points straight up! Pretty tough to find anything when you're constantly having to hold the telescope from falling and looking through the cheap plastic viewfinder at the same time! Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere!

I just received this telescope this weekend. The telescope works well, I was able to see Jupiter and three of her moons the first night I set it up. However, the instructions included are virtually useless. The manual is printed in 5 languages, which means it's virtually useless, in 5 languages. There are three eyepieces, three extension tubes of some sort and no description of how each is properly used or what function they might serve. The talking sky guide will likely prove to be just as challenging, I haven't tried it yet.

The telescope while very nice is difficult to use. First the manual is not very good and fails to tell you how to align the spotting scope. It has a very nice vernier movement for the horizontal, but for vertical adjustments you have to do this by hand. it makes it very hard to center on and view small objects.

The sky talk feature is also not very good, and with poor instructions. We could not get it to go past the first or second object it identified. I did help us to identify Jupiter, and we were able to see three of the moons very clearly with the telescope. It took a couple nights of work to get that into view.
