A few months into the job and Sabrina’s cold calling sales prospecting techniques were getting her almost nowhere. She would call CIO’s and CTO’s all day, and speak to maybe one sales prospect if she was lucky. The gatekeepers and voicemail were screening her out. Sabrina was “following up” her calls with emails, but she rarely if ever heard anything back.

Sabrina asked for help to improve her sales prospecting skills. A salesperson for a silicon valley software company, Sabrina was tasked with calling on CIO’s in Fortune 1000 companies. Her cold calling skills were a bit rusty, and she was under serious pressure from sales management to produce.

After a few weeks of working on these together, I got the following email from Sabrina:

“My email script has gotten another F1000 appointment! I sent it to an admin who forwarded it to a Senior Director who had his admin respond in 5 minutes that he wanted an appointment. They are right in our sweet spot so this is a very good thing.”

If you’ve done any sales prospecting to big corporations, then you know how great Sabrina felt when she got this appointment. Sabrina has secured numerous VP level appointments using her new email technique.

How did Sabrina improve her sales prospecting?

First she asked for help.

Upon working together, I coached Sabrina to sell only to the sales prospects that were most likely to buy. Sabrina developed a customer profile to guide her sales prospecting efforts. She determined what type of sales prospect would be most likely to buy her product.

Next she worked on identifying the pains that motivate her ideal sales prospect to want to buy her product. This took some research. She spoke to other sales reps, marketing management, and most importantly customers to figure out why people buy her product.

Sabrina used this to craft a short but specific email message to her best sales prospects. It was real-world due to all of her research and her prospects responded to it. The likely buyers were ones who could feel the pain that the email talked about. Those sales prospects jumped up and asked for an appointment.

Text links are the foundation of the internet. Without text links, there would be no internet. Without text links, there would be no internet users. Text links make the internet “user friendly” and allow surfers to easily move from one location to another to locate the information they choose.

In spite of the facts that this advertising tool is so familiar and simple, many internet marketers overlook it when devising an advertising and marketing plan. But this is a very big mistake because text linking is one of the least expensive and yet most powerful advertising options available.

Why You Need A Text Link Strategy For Your Web Site

Why is it important to have text links spread across a network of other web sites? I can answer that in one word — traffic.

Text links equal traffic. It really is that simple.

Text links work for you three ways:

~ Direct traffic when visitors click on the key words you have selected as your “anchor text”. This is very targeted, very profitable traffic too as each visitor deliberately clicks with the intention of learning more about whatever the key words are promoting.

~ Search engine traffic when their spiders encounter the text link and key words then visit your site. This can lead to more frequent visits by the search engines and factor into search placement.

~ Back links that affect both search engine ranking for your site but also search results

Text links can provide all those benefits — which can directly translate into income from your web site — and you can often buy text links for under $10 and the link will not only promote the specific site or page you choose but also connect it with the specific key words that will benefit you the most. Even better, when you buy a text link you are locking in your price so even if it delivers a ton of traffic — you don’t have to increase your ad budget.

How Can You Get Started With Text Links?

After you have developed your site and it is ready for visitors you should work up two versions of your text link. The first will be just a few words or a short phrase that includes the key words for your target site. The second will also include a longer description that may be a sentence or two. You should be able to find a selection of text links available for either choice.

When purchasing text links it is important to work with a known quantity and that usually is made easier if you work through a reputable text link broker.

Some points to consider when buying a text link:

~ Search engine rank (Google, Alexa, etc.) and age of site

~ Traffic

~ Content, design and usability of site

~ Placement of your link and number of links on the page/site

Many inexperienced text link buyers focus solely on Google PR but that little number doesn’t really tell an accurate tale about the traffic level on a site. While you shouldn’t ignore search engine rank information, I think it is more important to pay attention to the position of the link and the relevancy of the page or site content to yours. This will deliver better results in both the short and long term.

In the above-mentioned case, no forethought is given to the first step in building a web site. The first and most important part of web site construction is your cover page, sales process, and the least expensive ways to send targeted traffic to your web site.

Unless your web site is just a “hobby,” it should function as an automated 24-hour sales person, seven days per week. Your Internet sales letter is much more than a business card or company brochure. A properly constructed sales letter is a separate entity and can possibly close sales by itself.

When you have an idea about a great Internet product or service, have researched the demand, have chosen the best URL, and developed an outline of your proposed site - your next step should be to develop an award-winning sales letter. This proposed sales letter should be packed with unique content that drives visitors to you and captures their interest.

Your sales letter should thoroughly describe the benefits of your product or service. At the same time, your product or service should solve a problem that your potential clients have encountered. Therefore, any successful sales letter will have to fulfill a genuine need.

The right sales letter should develop trust from the very start and tell an interesting story along the way. This is not a guarantee of an instant sale, but the start of a relationship - built on credibility and trust. Your prospects visit your site because your product or service has “sparked” an interest.

Prospects visit your site for a multitude of reasons - but do you know why? Do you know the top reasons why your existing customers choose you, over your competition? This knowledge is essential when constructing a sales letter for your web site.

Lastly, when deciding how to construct your sales letter, you have many choices, but choose wisely and research your choices. If you decide to hire a sales copy writer, make sure his or her previous works have produced results or are persuasive in content. If you decide to purchase the least expensive writer available, do not expect good results. When seeking out a sales copy writer, you will get what you pay for.

Typically, a contest is set up and a keyword or keyphrase is defined by the contest holder. The object of the contest then is to develop a website or a web page that is optimized for that keyword or key phrase. The goal then is to obtain the 1st position rank for a search engine or several search engines for the given keyword.

Unless the contest holder’s rules specify against it, most participants will attempt to register a domain name containing the keyphrase.

The next step in developing a contest entry is to provide content. Because the keyphrase is the equivalent of an imaginary word, any content will suffice. Most people choose to talk about the contest, the current rankings, and how they are doing in the contest. Others choose to write stories or even use random text generation to provide content.

Content and relevant domain names are a good start but that’s just the beginning. The real work begins in obtaining backlinks. Under normal circumstances, SEO experts move at a slow even pace in achieving backlinks that are relevant to their site topic. In SEO Contests, other than other contest sites, there really aren’t any sites that are relevant to your keyword so the tendency is to acquire as many highly ranked web sites as possible.

Much of how the contest will conclude also depends on the timing of the contest. A long term contest lasting around a year will call for a different strategy than a shorter contest.

Long term contests have both the benefit and detriment of having to survive multiple Google updates.

Google updates make or break your contest entry. If you’ve engaged in any black hat SEO, the more updates that you pass, the more likely it is that Google will discover your technique and penalize your site. A short term contest allows more flexibility in your seo technique. You can get your hat a little dirty and not be in much danger of loosing your ranking because of a Google penalty.

Submitting an article to an article directory is a great way of generating traffic for your website, whether you’re just starting out or just trying to increase the traffic to your site. All you have to do is write an article that would be useful to your prospects, and put a resource box at the end of the article with a link to your website. A resource box is just a small statement about yourself with a link to your site for them to find out more information. Then you submit it to a few article directories. That’s it. Other people take over from this point.

So what exactly happens when you post articles on an article directory? Well your article gets posted on their website. A lot of other website owners check these article directories for articles they can use as content for their website or newsletter. But when they use your article, they agree to not change the article and to leave YOUR resource box on it. They advertise your website for you! You don’t have to do anything.

I can hear you now, this all sounds great but I’m not that great at writing. Well you don’t have to be! You’re not trying to sell a novel here. All you are doing is writing something that you think would be useful for someone else to know. As long as it is helpful I’m sure there will be plenty of people who WANT to read it. And the more you write, the better your writing is going to get. So don’t sit around procrastinating because you don’t feel you can write good enough. Just do it. You’ll get better.

This looks good but is it really better than paid advertising? I would say yes and there are several reasons for this. First of all it is FREE. Second, it’s viral. Take a look at this scenario. If you post an article on a couple article directories and only 10 people decide to use it in their newsletter. Each of these people has 2,000 people on their list. This advertises your site to 20,000 people. Now imagine if 100 people used your article or if they had 20,000 people each on their list. This stuff is powerful. Third, it establishes you as an expert in that field. People will trust you more and will be more willing to by your product if you’ve already given them useful information. Forth, after you’ve written a lot of article you can compile them into your own ebook and give it away for free (with links to your site of course) or sell it. Paid advertising doesn’t even compare to this. Don’t waste any more time. Start writing articles now!

Submitting articles is the proven method to drive targeted traffic to your website and make money online. The advantages of submitting articles will be discussed in another article. Here we just discuss where to submit articles and how to find them for making more money online.

You may know, there are lots of free articles directories where you can submit your articles. But we need to improve out effect to spend less time and get more result. Here are some ways to decide which directory is worth to submitting your articles.

First, you can search Google, Yahoo and MSN to find them. You just use “free articles” or something like that to search on those main search engines; you will get articlecity.com, isnare.com, ezinearticles.com, articlesfactory.com, ideamarketers.com, goarticles.com on the first page of Google search. You will get articletrader.com and articleworld.net on Yahoo. You will also get articletrader.com and freearticles.biz on MSN. You can find the results are not exact same. For reaching visitors as many as possible, you may need to submit your articles to those different websites.

Second, you can use Google Page Rank to check them. You know, the higher the page rank is, the more important the website is. We will get page rank of above websites: articlecity.com(6), isnare.com(5), ezinearticles.com(7), articlesfactory.com(5), ideamarketers.com(5), goarticles.com(6), articleworld.net(5) , articletrader.com(3) and freearticles.biz(4). The bigger the number is, the better the website is.

Third, you can use Alexa traffic ranking to check them. Alexa is the third party to display website traffic. We will get traffic ranking of above websites: articlecity.com(5,203), isnare.com(5,982), ezinearticles.com(616), articlesfactory.com(15,957), ideamarketers.com(6,896), goarticles.com(2,031), articleworld.net(39,300) , articletrader.com(17,643) and freearticles.biz(2,340,750). The less the number is, the better the website is.

Combining those three factors to consider where to submit your articles, we may get the first three websites as this: the first is ezinearticles.com, the second is goarticles.com and the third is articlecity.com. Actually, these three websites are the favorites for most authors to submit their articles.

Addition one factor you may think is the whole number of articles and authors of the website. It is a factor to check how popularity the directory is. You can imagine, how the search engine like the fresh content, the more articles the website has, the more exposure the website on search engine. The result is the more exposure of your articles. And you have to admit that almost every author is the visitor himself too. The more authors the website has, the more traffic the website has.

However, if you use software to submit your articles, it will save you lots of time. And if you have lots of time, you can submit your articles to as many as directories you can find.

Now the idea here is that, for a given keyword, all you have to do is to do things a little better than the #1 result for that keyword, and given time, holding all other things constant, you should be able to snag the #1 spot for that keyword.

Now, in the earlier editions of this, I taught about on-page and off-page techniques, so I won’t elaborate here.

But how do you apply these techniques so that you can win the search engine war? (This is continued from ‘Search Engine Marketing 105’)

2) Type in your preferred keyword in a search engine. Look at each of the results. Are the keywords appearing, not just in the titles, but also in the results themselves? Are the keywords, especially in the order in which you are typing them, coming up in the results?

Again, just making changes to your title, your description, and your content, can make a big difference in where you rank.

3) Check out the page rank of the pages. Know your own page rank. Know the page rank of the article directories to which you submit. Are several of the web pages showing lower page ranks than you are? If so, with just a little bit of work, fine tuning and such, you should be able to break into the top ten rankings for that keyword.

Most that are new to drop shipping and Internet business are excited to get their first order and all they can think about is the profit. They do everything they can to get the order processed properly (and fast to not make the buyer mad) and find out after then order has shipped that they credit card, or payment used was fraudulent and they see none of they money. The problem is they have already bought the item from their drop shipper and shipped it out. They are the ones that have lost, and are out of the money. The drop shipper can’t do a thing about it, and you really are left with the bill.

I have seen some people taken for as much as $5000.00 in one transaction from shady deals like these. I do not want that to happen to anyone who reads this article. That is why I am writing about this not so pleasant “dark side” of drop shipping.

Here is my advice:

If you are doing business in the US, then make sure most of your first transactions are done in the US (so you can get a better understanding of the business you are in). Do not be to quick to fulfill an order overseas without doing your homework. I would call your merchant account company, or bank and ask them what are the proper steps to take in order to confirm an overseas payment. If you ship out quick because you are “giddy and happy”, or because its your “first order” this is how those that run these scams operate - they feed on those kind of people that are so new and green to the industry.

Think first, and be smart about the transaction at hand. If you do, you could end up saving yourself a lot of money and heart ache. You do not want your first business transaction to be a bad experience.

What I have come to realize is that search engine optimization and good ranking take diligence and lots of patience in achieving great Search Engine positioning.

You can have the right keywords, the right met tags, quality page content, great back links, and submit to engines regularly. There is not magic wand you can wave to see your listing suddenly blow your competitors site off the map and get you in that top spot.

A new site can take anywhere from 1-6 months to show up in the search engines with the right SEO techniques. Existing web sites can take anywhere from 1 to several weeks for the adjustments you made to show the new positions.

Each search engine will update its data at different times. Google may index your site data within a week after you make your adjustments and take another week to shift your position for the keyword. MSN may take 1-2 weeks to index your data and your update your new positioning. Yahoo can take up to a month to update you web site data and positioning. Be patient it will happen.

I recommend optimizing your sites with the time frame in mind. If you advertise holiday specials, then you need to optimize you specials page in advance to target the holiday keywords.

Your Search Engine Marketing Strategy should be part of your overall Search Engine Marketing plan. If you have available funds, pay for paid inclusion or pay per click advertising for the keywords you wish to target while you are waiting for the natural placement to occur.

When you start to get great placement in the free ads area, turn off the pay per click ads for those words. Now you’re getting free traffic.

Remember free placement does not happen over night. You have to be patient, do your work, and make sure your information is relevant to what you want to list for in searches.

Is your web site like many others? Domain names always on the tip of a visitor’s tongue, but not quite memorable enough? Your choice of domain name needs to be easy to remember, as well as focused enough that your visitor will know right away what your site is about.

A Few Rules

Some rules do apply when deciding on a domain name:

Domain names must be at least two characters long but no more than 63 characters, not counting the TLD.

You can use any combination of letters, numbers, or hyphens, but you can’t use a hyphen as the first or last character.

Domain names are not case-sensitive, so my-home-based-business-advisor.com is the same as My-Home-Based-Business-Advisor.com.

Choosing A Domain Name

Choosing good domain names is almost as important as choosing your actual business (see our Startup Ideas page).

There are many different schools of thought when it comes to picking good domain names.

Some say to choose a short, concise name.

Some like numbers in the name, some don’t.

Hyphens and underscores — as opposed to words all running together — are another debated topic. It’s mostly a matter of easier reading for your human visitors. Which do you find easier to read?

Generally, the hyphens between words make domain names easier to read for most people.

While search engines don’t rank domain names, a keyword-rich name will let your visitors know what your web site is about before they get there. This makes them more comfortable because they know what they’re getting in advance.

Also, when you get other sites to link to yours, that link is usually based on your domain name. This means that your main keyphrase (which you used as your domain name) will be the actual anchor text and search engines do give additional ranking for that.
