trbidi="on">

A new platform-as-a-service Stratumn, designed for developers to build applications.

Stratumn is a Paris-based startup, a platform that allows applications to communicate with the bitcoin blockchain.

Users can build, deploy and run applications on the platform-as-a-service, where the resulted developed applications communicate with bitcoin blockchain. It is quite similar to the Heroku service.

The way the bitcoin blockchain works is by processing, on a distributed database where it is recorded all bitcoin transactions with an associated time-stamp. In its architecture it has a built-in open specification called Chainscript as JSON files that handle data. As a result, a user can then send the data to the blockchain with this method on the platorm. Later on the user can then retrieve and audit these packets of data by adhering to the Chainscript format.

There are many cases of developers building applications that were not necessarily related to bitcoin blockchain, but utilized the benefits of blockchain. As an example there is Stampery which has the capability to replace notaries. The service is designed with the capability to issue legally binding proofs for a user sensitive documents, with these proofs residing on the blockchain.

The innovation here by Stratumn is that, is offering users and their applications to communicate with the blockchain with little development complexity.

At the moment the biggest blockchain is the bitcoin’s blockchain, the opportunity here for Stratumn is that if it can build a blockchain-agnostic platform that works with private blockchains or alternative blockchains, then users can build applications with little development complexity on top of decentralized databases.
Google Improves Hybrid Cloud Security Offer, Partners with Splunk, BMC and Tenable

Following the offerings from competitors such as IBM, Cisco and Microsoft where they already offer their customers an expansion on their services for the enterprise market, with an option offering on hybrid cloud environments, it then follows that Google in order to improve its offerings, it has now partnered and is integrating with Splunk, BMC and Tenable.

As a result there is now more options on the Google Stackdriver, a platform that allows management of Information Technology operations between Google’s cloud platform, AWS, Azure among others, following the new partnerships by offering security and compliance.

Deepak Tiwari and Joe Corkery from Google Cloud stated “Integration with rich third-party ops solutions is important for customers, and we know that many of you are already using these tools to manage hybrid operations in private and public clouds”.

In terms of their third party partnerships, the offering from Splunk, allows Enterprise users to have insights onto GCP traffic, specifically covering Security Information and Event Management (SIEM), integrates via Google’s Pub/Sub messaging API for routing data between apps.

Regarding the BMC integration, users have the ability to manage all applications in one window, while also monitoring security and compliance. And the Tenable integration is focused on its SecurityCenter Continuous View product, in which GCP users can monitor what apps, devices and people are accessing your network or running on it. SecurityCenter Continuous View works across both on-premise and cloud environments.

Feel free to add your comments to this post, thank you.

Hedvig innovation comes from the idea that current storage approaches are not the best, as their limitations lie in the fact that from the ever-increasing amount of data that businesses create in terms of such fast rates of data generation systems tend to struggle.

Hedvig distributed platform, allows businesses to expand storage set-up as required, without having to constantly re-architect storage architecture. They was it works is that it adapts to existing storage assets, as well as future storage purchases.

Hedvig storage is both hardware- and compute-agnostic and operational for legacy, virtual and cloud environments. Administrators are able to provision storage and provide self-service access to internal and external users. Furthermore, the service can scale from small deployments to handling petabytes of data and subsequently data can reside on-premise, public and private clouds.

This service is currently generating a lot of interest as well as just having recently received a substantial investment from investors.

Amazon Web Services is best known for cloud computing instances, databases and storage.

Moreover AWS is now venturing into productivity tools offerings.

Amazon most known end user productivity tool is the Amazon Cloud Drive. Since its launch in 2011, it has been gaining more and more uptake particularly with the many hardware mobile devices users that Amazon now produces including the latest Fire Phone.

Within this framework service offering, Amazon now has a full-featured competitor to Google Drive for Work and Dropbox which includes a web-based interface. The current preview offering is targeted at businesses, without a current free offering for end users nevertheless it can be envisaged that afterwards once preview stage is over the strategy may already include end users too, in a similar way to google apps. Below is a video introduction to Amazon Zocalo.

Another feature that AWS’s already offers for developers is its mobile app analytics service. Currently, AWS offers everything developers need to build their applications, either for mobile or web apps.
The acquired business GreenButton provides its customers with a service requirement that permits large amounts of compute power and data processing in a wide range of fields such as science, engineering, media, finance, etc. by utilising cloud computing capabilities in their business model.

The company has custom developed a variety of integration processes with existing software products which are capable to offload their compute-intensive processing to the cloud. Examples of this service includes bio-informatics platform Geneious, Pixar’s RenderMan On Demand and NVIDIA’s mental ray. Furthermore, the company also offers developers an SDK for integrating its services with their existing applications.

Currently. the company service also supports using HP Public Cloud, OpenStack, VMWare and Amazon Web Services.

Following IBM Impact Conference, it was announced a new cloud marketplace hub, an central marketplace for IBM users of its cloud services and a new opportunity marketplace for third-party solution partners.

Over the last several years, IBM has been putting together a portfolio of cloud services from Softlayer for infrastructure, BlueMix for development and more than 100 cloud-based software services including recent purchases of Silverpop and Cloudant.

IBM's Steve Robinson stated that this new marketplace goal is to offer and bring most of its offerings together and offer new opportunities to partners “Many clients have been asking for a consistent way to explore what IBM has and ways to discuss [and understand] a fuller spectrum of what’s available”. The new marketplace follows the trend of other established consumer marketplaces such as the Apple store and google play approach in its offer to users to experience and consume software at a popular central hub approach. In this case, this new marketplace is more in line with that of Salesforce App Exchange.

IBM is inviting companies who have built apps on BlueMix or are running apps on SoftLayer to put their products into the marketplace.

Feel free to add your comments to this post, thank you.

Following this latest development by Microsoft, it does now put into perspective services like Dropbox and Box as cloud competitors alternatives and their strategies for growth in the enterprise market.

From an enterprise user perspective the cloud services storage without the availability of editing and collaboration tools is seen as less favourable, which in turn having editing and collaboration tools capabilities without a good sufficient cloud storage service space can be also less appealing. In this scenario, the big players such as Microsoft does have a strategic advantage and they seem now the be making the most of it, without actually making large investments, by simply giving what users wish in terms of flexibility and data storage.

The other large players such as Google and Yahoo have also recently offered their improved cloud storage solutions to users. In the case of Yahoo it now offers a terabyte of storage on Flickr, and Google has also reduced its prices for cloud storage. Further developments are now expected from Amazon, and another possibility in the pipeline may come from IBM too.

Feel free to add your comments to this post, thank you.
http://feeds.feedburner.com/BusinessComputing

<georss:box>51.475843 -3.188017900000033 51.477079 -3.1854969000000333</georss:box>

Cloudera Cloud Service Distribution Receives Further Investment

Cloudera start-up technology company that specializes in Apache Hadoop based data management software and services.

Received investment led by T. Rowe Price and Google Ventures.

The way Cloudera Hadoop works is that it helps manage big data in a business by offering software, services and support for databases. When there is a requirement for raw data to be analised such as patterns or trends or even the possibility of finding data answers in pools of data that has not been used previously it uses its approach of producing efficient results.

Cloudera distributes Hadoop by providing practical services, in a way similar to the existing Red Hat and its Linux framework.

Nitrous.IO, is a development framework that allows flexible and collaborative online development environment.

It was announced that it has received more investment today from Bessemer Venture Partners.

David Cowan partner at the investment company stated: “The development community brought cloud computing to the masses, and now Nitrous.IO returns the favour!”.

One of the drawbacks of software development is that many hours can be spent creating, maintaining and debugging localhost. Nitrous advantage is that it takes this drawback away from the development software coding cycle.

Nitrous.IO is very popular with software developers who are at early stages on learning how to code. The it works is by a few clicks is sufficient to set up a development environment on the platform. With Nitrous.IO there is no need to configure machines as it puts early coders simply concentrated on the coding development. Furthermore, as the platform is available in a browser, users have tremendous flexibility with almost no investment in hardware capabilities.

It is expected that with this latest investment, the company will focus it solution into the enterprise market. Furthermore, it can be envisaged an expansion of its services for technology start-ups where larger existing business will continue to follow the current pattern of facilitating and welcoming the cloud development, where Nitrous can present a development environment available at the browser.

The company CEO stated “We believe in letting people to code from wherever they want, but we also know not everybody will convert and develop in the cloud,” Nitrous also has support for Windows and Mac which enables software developers to utilize their existing editors and save to their local file system, which is then synced in real-time with the cloud service.

Feel free to add your comments to this post, thank you.

With data security in mind, Twitter has enhanced its service by enabling Perfect Forward Secrecy, including website and API feeds as a preventive measure in anticipation for any possible breach in the future.

This new feature, Perfect Forward Secrecy works by securing historical data so that in the eventuality that current data is decrypted for any reason or flaw is then ensures that past data will not become accessible or readable straight away.

Twitter’s Jacob Hoffman-Andrews stated “If an adversary is currently recording all Twitter users’ encrypted traffic, and they later crack or steal Twitter’s private keys, they should not be able to use those keys to decrypt the recorded traffic”. As stated at the Electronic Frontier Foundation .

Initially Twitter implemented fully HTTPS compliant in early 2011, though a login flaw uncovered late last year that allowed passwords to be sent in plain text. This new security enhancement will further complement the current TLS and SSL protocols in use by Twitter to protect logins and transmission of data across its network.

Twitter now integrated a security solution where an individual machine client and server session generates its own encryption key, which does never sends the unique key over networks. In the case where an organization attempts to collect a large amount of Twitter data, it will not however be able to break one lock and read all the data, as from now as a result in order to be possible to break significant data it must unlock thousands or hundreds of additional keys to even read any significant relevant data that makes it even worthwhile.

The only slight drawback is that the site will encounter a slight initial slowness in its speed with this implementation around 150ms.

In this context, Google already implemented PFS around two years ago, and it appears Facebook will also implement. Further information on PFS is available on this blog here.

The development of cloud technology has
brought down business costs, enabled companies to be more creative in their
acquisition of software and also increased the storage capacity of any IT
system.

Enterprise Resource Planning

One area that has benefited from the use of cloud
technology is enterprise resource planning (ERP) software. This ingenious tool acts as a central
database for all departments within a company allowing them to update and share
data and work in synchronicity across the board. ERP is also used as an accurate basis for
financial projections and can be employed as an invaluable document-tracking
tool for company compliance. Many small
to medium enterprises (SMEs) use cloud technology as a way of extending their
use of ERP by storing their data and keeping their IT budget in check. Users pay for ERP cloud services with a flat
fee rather than with an individual charge per user. The move from in-house expertise to cloud
storage certainly will reduce IT departmental costs, as well as cutting down on
expensive software installation and upgrade expenditure.

Management Consultancy

Project management is an essential part of any efficient
business but many firms do not necessarily have in-house expertise and will
look to a professional management consultant for advice. They will then utilise their know how in
order to advise on compliance and will learn how to make company software
systems integrate with an ongoing project.
Many management consultants will start their role by carrying out a risk
assessment to ensure that company departments are integrated. Most projects will be doomed to failure if
there isn’t any internal integration.
ERP software can be complex and management consultants can advise which
types of software are best suited for an individual project. If an SME is involved, a consultant may
advise the use of CloudERP in order to reduce hardware and software costs and to innovate. At the start of a project the consultant will
want to ensure that governance procedures are in place and a traditional in-house
IT department may find it costly and time consuming to deliver these
objectives. Those firms who use ERP
cloud technology will find that they can upgrade and incorporate new features
with ease and minimum additional expense.

Project Management

An ERP system allows an experienced management consultant
to assess company HR, accounts, production and sales strengths and weaknesses
from a single database. All of this
information is vital to any project. A
management consultant understands corporate structure as well as software
capabilities, whereas, many IT consultants only understand their own field of
knowledge rather than corporate compliance as a whole. ERP implementation can benefit a company but
advice from a management consultant means that the proposed software will work
far more efficiently. When choosing a
consultant it’s important to get references from other companies in order to
confirm that the consultant’s claims to expertise are relevant to the needs of
the business. At the start of any ERP
implementation it’s important to recognise exactly what the business needs as
well as the functions of each individual department. Implementation consultants can help a
business enormously but it’s up to the commissioning firm to carry out due
diligence so that it can achieve the highest standards from management
consultancy.

It was announced today by Google, three new features to its Google Cloud Storage service, however its Cloud Storage SLA does not yet apply.

Following these updates the Google Cloud Storage service is becoming a competitive service offering comparable to Amazon’s Web Services on the S3 option, furthermore competitive with Microsoft Azure Storage.

The new updates include Object Lifecycle Management, capability to users choose in which region their files and data will be stored. It was also announced that users will have a capability to upload their files faster via Gsutil 3.4, incorporating an upload processing in a parallel structure. In the case where the data is simply too large and time consuming on uploading it is also possible to send hard drives to Google.

It appears that from Microsoft’s CEO Steve Ballmer arrangements with its Azure chief Satya Nadella including Oracle president Mark Hurd it has been announced a joint press conference this Monday.

The press conference is scheduled only two days before Microsoft’s Build developer conference in San Francisco. This event comes in a context where the Oracle CEO Larry Ellison is committed on a series of major partnerships deals, which also includes one with Salesforce.

Larry Ellison stated “Next week we will be announcing technology partnerships with the largest and most important SaaS companies (software-as-a-service) and infrastructure companies in the cloud” as seen on Oracle to announce partnerships.

Oracle Larry Ellison stated that companies will use their infrastructure for years to come, where its new technology is similar to that of SAP HANA.

In a strategic sense it seems that Microsoft and Oracle are planning a big data initiative in order to compete with Pivotal as seen on here and GE. It may even be possible that in the medium term a new company may even emerge following this initiative.

With these developments in minds it also follows that SAP already works closely with Amazon Web Services.
In comparison to DropLr, CloudApp, Ge.tt and Dropmark the new service CloudUp works by creating a tool that allows for sharing images, links, documents and videos to the user extremely friendly on both the user emitter and the user viewer/receiver.

This new service does have a minimal design look and feel, which may be quite user friendly for most users that are not familiar with the mechanics of a file sharing service and operation. The way it works is that users can simply share file by dragging them and dropping them into their browser, automatically generating a link which they can then share on email, including social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook.

Feel free to add your comments to this post, thank you.
http://feeds.feedburner.com/BusinessComputing

<georss:box>51.475843 -3.188017900000033 51.477079 -3.1854969000000333</georss:box>

Google Cloud Platform Now Available to Everyone Including Businesses

It was announced by Google today at I/O that its Google Cloud Platform is now available to everyone.

Currently the service, has around 3 million users but now it can be envisaged that businesses will make use of this new general availability and will certainly be a strong competitor with its services when compared to the popular Amazon Web Services (AWS) and the emerging Microsoft Windows Azure.

The main features on the Google cloud platform announced are:

Sub-hour billing charges for instances in one-minute increments with a 10-minute minimum, as a result developers only pay for compute minutes that they use.

Shared-core instances provide smaller instance shapes for low-intensity workloads.

Advanced Routing features help create gateways and VPN servers and enables developers to build applications that span local network and Google’s cloud.

Large persistent disks support up to 10 terabytes per volume.

Google is using its attractive existing data-center infrastructure in order to attract developers and businesses. Where software app developers can benefit from APIs that allow them to integrate with apps with the usage of data centers for compute and storage development.

Today there is a new update on BlackBerry Enterprise IM 3.0, where users of BlackBerry 10 now have new messaging capabilities. The new features include integration with third-party services, such as Microsoft Lync, Office Communication Server and IBM Lotus Sametime.

The way it works is that messaging data is encrypted from send state to read state, it then results that it not only protects BlackBerry enterprise users but also protects users on desktops and third-party platform-enabled smartphones.

It was announced today, by BlackBerry Frank Cotter of which it stated: "To be competitive in today's fast-paced marketplace, you need to enable your workers with tools that let them collaborate in real time." In this interesting development, it means that the enterprise mobility management solution now works across multi-platforms.

Furthermore, BlackBerry has plans to launch BlackBerry Messenger to iPhones, iPads and Android-based devices.

Feel free to add your comments to this post, thank you.
http://feeds.feedburner.com/BusinessComputing

<georss:box>51.475843 -3.188017900000033 51.477079 -3.1854969000000333</georss:box>

Google Cloud Notification Messaging Service Now Available on Chrome

Following 2012's announcement at Google I/0 on the availability for cloud push notification messaging service designed for Android. It now follows that this week, this service is now also available to Chrome and Chrome OS.

As a result, software cloud app developers can now create Chrome apps with the capabilities built-in that allows developers to wake up their apps remotely or with a combination of either sending simultaneously notification messages directly to their all cloud app end users from a central server.

The Google chief Mark Scott wrote further details following the announcement in his blog post ”event pages keep apps and extensions efficient by allowing them to respond to a variety of events, such as timers or navigation to a particular site, without having to remain running persistently.”

The cloud based Zoho platform made available to its users a new mobile phone app on iTunes and Google Play that works by scanning business cards on the go, after which the input data is directly published to a user's Zoho CRM which can be either as a new contact or to update an existing contact.

The process as stated by Zoho's Raju Vegesna is done by synchronizing the scanned data to the user's CRM utilizing a background service. Furthermore, if the scanned data contains a Twitter handle, then it automatically assigns on the Zoho CRM contact details its Twitter account. Later the data can be exported from the Zoho CRM, however at present the data cannot be exported directly from the scanner mobile app as it first needs to be added to the Zoho CRM and then subsequently the data exported if required. However, we understand that in following versions this capability will be added to the features of the mobile app business card scanner.

Other existing mobile apps already exists such as Evernote Hello where users can have the service integrated with LinkedIn, email and calendar features. Another example is the CamCard where the scanned data can be exported to Microsoft Excel. However, a mobile app that integrates with a CRM system, this is where this Zoho app offers its unique selling point.

We understand that Oracle is acquiring Nimbula, this is a cloud OS start-up created by some founding people of the popular cloud service that is Amazon Web Services (AWS).

It appears that this latest development by Oracle is not an attempt to directly participate on OpenStack, rather a talent acquisition and the technology share, nevertheless Nimbula is a member current member of the OpenStack Foundation.

As a result, Oracle will become an OpenStack interested party despite not being a direct member. The growing interest and current members include VMware via Nicira, HP, Dell and IBM.

In an overall strategy it can be envisaged that Oracle has an interest for the Nimbula technology in a context where the Amazon EC2 offers and has an ever increasing market share on cloud computing solutions. It may be that Oracle is positioning itself in a technology market segment where it feels it may be able offer similar and better solutions following on the current success of Amazon's vision and implementation.

Feel free to add your comments to this post, thank you.

The Amazon Web Services now has cheaper pricing particularly on the messaging and notification services, relevant to application developers and are being applied from today to users.

The cheaper services are the Amazon Simple Queue Services (SQS) and the Amazon Simple Notification Service (SNS) which were first introduced back in 2010. The new prices are summarized below.

SQS API $0.50 per million API requests.

SNS API $0.50 per million API requests.

The SQS and SNS free tiers are to expand to 1 million free API requests per month.

It appears that this new pricing may be a strategy in order to compete with the growing in popularity Microsoft Azure and Google Compute Engine.
The new pricing also applies for installed tiers on the Cloud Files storage. Further details can be read on the Rackspace blog.
