More on List Building

You have an AWeber account. You have decided to build a list of people interested in your product niche. You have developed evergreen weekly email responses and have made sure these emails are building trust with the readers. You are only pushing a product once a month. Because you know that if you push a product every week without building trust, people will unsubscribe.

All this is good but how do you get them to subscribe in the first place?

Why subscribe to my list?

This is one of the most important questions you need to answer before you active your newsletter. Remember the reader is on you blog. He/she is interested in what you have to say. But they need an additional reason to give you their name and email address.

Readers hate spam. Do you have a privacy policy that states you will not sell or give away their private information?

Can the reader find this policy easily?

You need to explain to the reader “what’s in it for them (the reader)” to sign up for your list?

Are you offering an appropriate gift that is valuable to the reader. At least valuable enough for them to give you their private information?

You must find something that is valuable enough to your readers to make them want to give you their name and email address. And you must make it easy for them to sign up.

Sign up form

Now place your sign up form on a sales page or in a widget (which ever will work the best) and test it. If it works make it active.

Now you must market your list so people can find it and sign up.

You list can be a source of sales now and in the future. So it is worth the extra effort to get it right.

What is a list?

When you build a list of names and email addresses of people who voluntarily give you their personal information you have built a list.

Why build a list?

If you build your list properly, you have have names and addresses of people who are interested in buying from you.  You can market your products to this list and make sales.

How do you build a list?

The first step is to get an autoresponder such as AWeber.  I strongly recommend that you get an autoresponder that is only an autoresponder like AWeber.  Many of the free autoresponders work but will not back you up when you are accused of spam.  AWeber will.

Second you need to decide on the goal of the list.  What do you want to accomplish with this list?

Third you need to decide how you are going to convince your readers to sign up for your list.  Many marketers give away or sell for a very low price some product that is appropriate for the goals of the list.  If you list buys something from you to join the list, they are more apt to buy more from you.

Forth you need to set up your list in AWeber.  That includes followup emails.

Once that is finished you can add the sign up form to you site.

Now all you need to do is market your list so people can find it and sign up.

URL Directories

If you do an online search for URL directories you will find hundreds of them. Some of these directories are niche specific but most are general in nature. And each one has the possibility of creating a back link to your site.

How you submit your URL to these directories is usually straight forward but may differ between directories. So read the instructions carefully.

Take you time to develop your description so it will grab readers and make them want to visit your site.

This is one of the great ways to gain traffic and back links.

RSS Directories

An RSS directory is a website that list links to RSS feeds. You can visit them to find RSS feeds about the topic you are interested in learning more about. Once you find one you can add it to your favorite Feed Aggregator such as Google Reader.

So why add your RSS feed?

First of all you could get subscribers to your RSS feed. And these subscribers could come to visit your site for more information. They could end up buying product(s) from your site.

Second the directory will yield a back link to your site. This is another link building technique you can utilize.

But like other back links the old saying slow but steady is the rule. Don’t slam a large number of back links to your site. Search engines don’t like that.

Consider adding RSS Directories to your SEO program.

Internal Links

While your are actively increasing your back links and controlling your external (outgoing links) don’t forget about your internal links.

Internal links are between one post/page and another post/page. These links help the reader find more information on the topic of the current post/page.

In addition to helping your reader find more information, the bots also follow these links to index more pages.

So internal links help both the reader (your primary focus) and the search engine bots.

So be sure you have links to similar posts/pages as you write new information on your blog. And try to use keyword rich textual links.

We already realize that back links can help build up your ranking. We have talked about article marketing as a method of getting back links.

Now let’s talk about using comments on forums and other peoples blogs as a method of getting traffic and back links.

Steps

First you need to find forums and websites/blogs in your niche.

Second determine the requirements for adding a comment. And can you have a link to your website. This varies by site but most are very similar.

Now follow the website/forum and make comments. Share your knowledge and experience by commenting.

This is not the time for a sales pitch. You want to share your knowledge and experiences in the niche. If people find your comments important to them, they will visit your site for more information.

Link Building – Articles

Back links are important to your website rankings. The best back links are keyword rich textual links.

So how do you get back links with articles?

Article marketing is a great way to get back links. All you need to do is to write an article (about 400-500 words) and a resource box. Be sure the article is keyword rich so that it is easy to find.

The resource box will be different depending upon the article directory you choose. So read their requirements. But in general this is where you add keyword rich textual links back to your post or pages.

Once the article is accepted and posted on the article directory you have a back link. Writing articles is a great way to get back links. And you are not restricted to only one article directory.

So write articles and post them on multiple directories. Be sure to read the policies of each directory before you submit just to be sure you meet all of their requirements.

There is one important aspect of SEO that many people forget. And that is link building. Especially internal links and back links from authority sites in your niche.

Internal Links

Your readers need an easy way to find all of your information about a topic. You navigation bar is one of those methods. As long as your organize your posts and pages into categories people will be able to find your information.

But think of how it will be when you have hundreds of posts and pages. Now it will be more difficult to find all of your information because there are so many posts and pages. This is where internal links between blog posts and pages becomes important. As you make a new post or page be sure you have links to all of the other posts and pages with similar content.

This internal linking is a never ending job because as you add posts and pages, links to and from other posts and pages will have to be updated.

So start this process early and keep up.

External Links

These are links from your site to other sites and from other sites to your site. The most important ones are coming back into your site. These back links come from any other site that has a link to your site.

Such as articles you have written with a link in the resource box. Squidoo pages you created with links back to your site. Comments you have made on forums and other blogs where you can add your website address. And many more.

This is a never ending job. But a very important job for your ranking. Remember to use keywords in these textual links.

Your online business website has already added information to help the visitor with the first two stages of the buying process – awareness and discovery. Now you need to have the solution available for purchase.

In addition to an easy buying process you need to have the benefits of purchase explained. The benefits of the product and the benefits of buying from you either online or off line.

Remember you have competition with the same or similar products. You need to point out the benefits of your products and the benefits of doing business with you. You know these benefits, just add them to your site and make them easy to find.
