Do you really think they do all the work? No!

So what is Outsourcing?

Outsourcing is basically getting someone else to do a job or task for you to save you time and money. Most of the time, if not all the time, these people will be able to do a much better job then you could.

Here's an example:

If you needed a graphic for a product created, and you aren't a graphic designer or know very little, by outsourcing this task you would receive a much better quality graphic (more professional) and it would cost you less because you would first have to learn how to do it. (Just figure out how many hours it would take you to learn how and then how long it would take to do it, multiple that by how much you figure your time is worth, then compare that to what you are going to pay to outsource it.

Now when you're just starting out, you don't want to outsource everything. You should learn how to do it yourself or at least know what it should look like when done properly. There's no point paying someone to do a job for you if you don't even know if they did a good job or even did it correctly.

Some times you can get away with this, but it will take some research to find a qualified person and it will cost a lot more money.

There are many different things you can have outsourced, you can even outsource your entire business. Here are some of the things you can have outsourced:

* Ghost Writing - articles, reports, ebooks, physical books, newsletters, copywriting
* Graphic Designer - headers, footers, ecovers, CDs, DVDs, entire websites
* Programmers - design software, installing of scripts, websites or blog setup
* Fulfillment - product duplication, packaging, delivery
* Some others include - customer service, payments and refunds, legal services, audio, video

Here are some of the services you can use:

* Guru.com
* eLance
* RentACoder
* ScriptLance
* HotScripts

The great benefit from using several of these sites is you can list your project and other people will come and bid on it (how much they are will to pay and how it will take them) NEVER, take the first bid... wait a few days or a week or so, let several people bid on your project so you can compare them.

Don't choose someone based on the price. This can get you into trouble (waste of money and time) Make sure you check out their portfolio, their rating, or anything else that can help you make your decision. Also remember that just because you post a project, doesn't mean you have to choose someone.

Remember you are hiring someone to do the job for you, do you think just because you apply for a job you should get it... not likely!

The best way to get started, is to sign up for an account at each of these services. Browse around a bit so you know the layout, then decide on a project to test them out. Even if you on a tight budget, I still recommend you doing this. You don't have to spend much money, maybe $5-$20 on an article or small graphic. (I have seen several people that will do professional graphics for under $10)

When you post your project, make sure to include specific details such as if you getting an ebook created, don't just say you want a 50-page ebook. Tell them the font size, font type, margins, line spacing, etc. I have heard of some people that have posted a project without these details and ended up getting an ebook that was about 10 pages long due to huge font sizes, big margins and double spacing each line.

Think about your project, post as much detail about the finished product without going to deep as what content it should include. Once you have found a person to do your project then you will be able to go into full detail of what your ebook should include and exactly what you want.

I hope these tips on outsourcing have helped you and will give you a different outlook on hiring other people to do the work for you, so you can spend more time on things that are more important to you and your business.

To find out more about outsourcing and how it can help you to grow your business faster and more efficiently, you should check out Jeff Mills Outsource Secrets Revealed, you'll be able to read his free ebook called Outsource Compendium and his free.

For more internet marketing tips and strategies to build, promote and profit from your business, visit MikeGillis.com

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Mike_Gillis

10 Tips on Outsourcing Online Projects

"It is vain to do with more what can be done with less." - William of Occam

Globalization and the Internet have made it possible for anyone to tap talented workers in emerging economies at a low cost. Why pay for a job in dollar figures what can be done remotely for rupees. Today, virtually all large companies outsource portions of their business development to other nations.

Thanks to the Internet, outsourcing is now available to the rest of us as well. I know of many startups and individuals, like myself, who have had considerable success outsourcing. I have integrated outsourcing as part of all ongoing projects - and recommend it to any individual or business that hasn't done so yet. When done right, outsourcing will save significant amount of time, money and stress.

There are risks involved, however; micromanaging an incompetent employee living in an inverted timezone can be stressful. Or worse yet, there is a risk of getting stuck with an employee who stalls the project until it ends up costing more money than it was meant to save.

These issues, however, are not problems with outsourcing itself, but rather with the orthodox approach used to manage an outsourced project. The tips suggested in the following paragraphs will help you develop an outsourcing strategy to get quality work done for less.

10 Tips on Outsourcing Online:

1. Check Employee's Background

Choose someone with a high credibility and at least a dozen projects completed on the site. Websites such as, Elance, RentACoder, and ODesk have expert rating tests service providers can take to prove their credibility.

2. Start with a small project

Unless you have worked with a coder before, start with a small project. Remember, you cannot outsource passion. Your employees don't share the same enthusiasm as you do for your project. So communicate expectations and divide the work into small chunks so that they may stay motivated and demand less micro-managing.

When hiring, prefer workers who ask questions to those who do not. Questions show they are interested and already thinking of your needs. Those who do not ask usually end up chucking half baked work at you; 'guessing' instead of 'knowing' what you need without really caring.

3. Don't let the lowest bid intimidate you

Plan your project and work out your priorities. While it is great to negotiate costs, when you are finally hiring, be sure you are hiring the right person for the job. Do not let a low bid lure you into hiring.

4. Claim Intellectual Property

Make sure the project contract includes the ownership clause that tells the employee that you own complete rights to the work once it is paid for. RentACoder and Elance have a default clause written into the contract. This will avoid potential copyright complications later on.

5. Provide the big picture

It is your job to share the project's vision. If you are able to clearly communicate the project goals things would go far smoother than they would if you were directing a project from the seat of your pants.

6. Set a schedule for status reports

With preset status reports, you can keep track of the project's progress and it is then easier to keep the outsourced employee motivated. Time saved for them is time and money saved for you as well.

7. Clearly define what constitutes completed work

Test and retest the deliverables before you finally pay the employee for the work. When possible, work out a support clause with the coder for help after completion of the project.

8. Follow the rules

It might seem easier to just chat with the coders you hire and get your point across but sites like RentACoder.com insist you correspond everything you agreed upon through your project thread. If your correspondence is not in the arbitrating website's record then do not expect them to take your word for what was agreed.

9. Time zones can make or break your sleep

When choosing a worker, it is important to keep the time zones in mind. Make sure there will be times when you can communicate with the coder in real time if necessary. Prefer someone from the same time zone as yourself (for North Americans, hiring someone from South America makes good sense).

10. Prefer freelance workers over outsource firms

Freelance workers are better motivated since they are working for themselves, and they are not top heavy as most Indian outsourcing firms turn out to be. Outsourcing firms will bid for projects their teams are incapable of finishing; many will brute force their way into finding a project by spamming potential employers with irrelevant samples of work.

Freelancing coders on the other hand are more likely to only take up work they can complete; plus, they remove the non-technical middle man.

Conclusion

I have outsourced everything, from copy writing and marketing to software development and graphic designing. The research material for this article, for instance, was compiled for by my virtual assistant. Surprised? Don't be. I would be surprised if the likes of Timothy Ferriss wrote the entire book, The 4-Hour Workweek, without the help of an outsourced editor.

If you have a great idea, don't let your lack of skills, or even time, stop you from executing it. Yes, outsourcing can be challenging, but the benefits far outweigh the potential risks once you know how to use it to your advantage.

Jawad Shuaib is a Web 2.0 Software Developer, Entrepreneur and Marketer. It is these vary same employees who will be at the center of the upcoming transition and knowledge transfer phase, so it is critical to your long-term success to work with your staff to address their concerns.

Subject matter expertise, business process knowledge, analytical and project management skills, are just a few of the qualities that differentiate your staff from your vendor staff. Outsourcing will give your staff the opportunity to take on more of these types of responsibilities while transitioning some of the tactical and operational responsibilities to your outsourcing partner.

Vendor Staff

In addition to your own staff, the vendor will begin building a team dedicated to supporting your outsourcing initiative. It is important to remember that these people have career goals and aspirations as well that will need to be considered in order to minimize attrition.

It is recommended for you and some of your key players to schedule a meeting with the vendor employees at their office location to introduce yourself, meet your future outsourcing staff and to discuss your goals and expectations. Making the vendor staff feel that they are part of your overall sourcing team will go a long way to promoting loyalty and providing motivation.

While it is ultimately up to the vendor to manage their own staff, you will have valuable insight into the team potential if you take the time to interview some of the key people to understand their abilities, communication skills and ambitions.

Remember, these are not commodities, they are people with career goals, families and lives that want to feel they are part of a solution and can make a contribution to the overall success of your joint partnership.

This article is part of free Outsourced.SK's weekly series on outsourcing.

Please feel free to forward this article to others who might be interested in learning more about the benefits of nearshore IT outsourcing in Central Europe.

Other articles in this series can be viewed at Oursourced.SK's article archive. However historians agree that the latest and largest wave of outsourcing trend came with the revolution of IT technology and the need of manufacturing hi-tech items, including computers and electronic equipment. One of the most crucial moments in the history and evolution of outsourcing services was the dot com boom and the significant increase of e-commerce possibilities. In present times there is practically nothing that cannot be outsourced, with BPO expanding in fields like IT and ITES outsourcing, security, monitoring, administration and even commerce.

Analysts claim that in a few years outsourcing will be the focal point of all IT and online businesses, mostly because nowadays companies can benefit from skilled and experienced personnel that come from all over the world at low cost. Especially since a vast majority of outsourcers come from countries like India and China, or other Asian countries where wages are lower than in the US and the developed Western Countries, the possibility of quality contractors with low rates is increasing dramatically every year. Although the initial predictions were talking about a decrease in outsourcing in 2006, in both 2006 and 2007 the number of outsource contracts was not only bigger but also the fields of activity were more varied than in all the previous decades. The current trend in outsourcing shows that the outsource providers expand their technological scope and ensure their position in global market, while the elevated number of buyers help in the creation of new outsourcing workplaces.

Since outsourcing now is broadening its horizons to different markets taking advantage of the latest technological inventions, there are no geographical or language limits. Video conferences, instant messaging, networking groups, emails, mobile technology and social networks have facilitated the communication and work of outsourcers with the hiring companies who can now focus on the core business operations of their companies. During these last five years we saw the Western companies going offshore when it comes to outsourcers, not only because of the lower prices but also because of having access to a pool of talented and competitive freelancers, ranging from high skilled professionals to ambitious and qualified graduates who could perform equally well maybe even better.

The future of outsourcing is now considered bright and open, although everyone agrees that the main focus now will be on increasing competition and the orientation of business to processes more than before.

If you have any questions, or need to outsource web design & development project, wedesign4all.com offers a variety of IT solutions and will customize a solution to fit your needs.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Ali_Morakabi

Outsource of Course! - 5 Costly Outsourcing Mistakes Business Owners Must Avoid

Most entrepreneurs start businesses with the hopes of working fewer hours while making more money. Often these hopes are dashed as reality sets in. There are too many tasks and demands on time for the business owner to handle alone. All too often, entrepreneurs complain that their business is running then instead of them running the business. So, they turn to outsourcing as a means to increase profitability and streamline their workload.

If managed well, outsourcing can positively impact business operations. However, if not properly managed, it can disrupt business operations creating more work than without outsourcing.

Following are 5 potential outsourcing mistakes that every business owner should be aware of in order to avoid:

Not Knowing Who Enough about the Vendor: The number one problem with outsourcing is not thoroughly checking out the assistant or company which will perform the work. So, the first thing you need to do is thoroughly interview the potential vendor before assigning work to them. Ask for references and check them. Review a broad sample of their work. And, my favorite question is "Have you done this type of project at least twice?" If so, look at the results to see if they are up to your standards.

Poor Communication Between Business Owner and Assistant: Whether you are outsourcing tech support, writing, web design, bookkeeping or something else, the responsibility for clear communication rests with the business owner. In order for the relationship to evolve and be productive, you must clearly communicate your expectations and be open to discussion throughout the process. If you don't do this from the beginning, you may not get the results you expect. It is always a good idea to summarize your expectations in a memo so that both of you are on the same page - literally.

Not Budgeting Wisely: One of the reasons you outsource part of your workload is to improve your bottom line. To that end, you must do two things. First, develop a budget. And, second, monitor what you are spending for the work being done. Some projects will be one-time events requiring a single payment. Other projects will be ongoing and will require recurring or retainer payments. In both cases you may have a binding contract or letter of agreement for payment for work. Assistants charge by the hour, by project or by commission. Terms will depend on the type of project and the expected deliverable. It is best to figure out how much money you can afford to spend on each component that you want to outsource and budget accordingly. Also, you may want to add a small contingency fund for unexpected costs and opportunities.

Under Utilizing Your Contractor and Their Resources: When you make the decision to outsource some of your work, do so strategically and not just because everyone in doing it. Make sure that you capitalize on your contractors resources. Often, you will find that an assistant can do far more than you initially thought. It is contingent on you understanding what they can do and what resources they have at their disposal. I have found that asking a lot of questions has led me to unknown skills, tools and resources within my support team.

Misunderstanding Your Role as the Outsourcing Business Owner: You are responsible for managing the outsourcing process in order to get what you expect. Also, your assistants may be working on projects for several clients simultaneously so you may not get their full attention all the time. It is a way to get the work done from the professionals when we are concentrating on other aspect of business and don't want to hire the full time workers. Outsourcing is a way to earn by working at your home place with your present working. There are many marketplaces available where you can bid for different freelance projects and earn by completing these projects.

Now a day outsourcing market is suffering from the recession in whole world and India IT sector is highly dependent on outsourcing mainly 60% on US. Peoples are thinking that recession is becoming a disaster for the Indian economy but in my believe recession is actually a great time to start a new venture. It is a great time to take advantage of the lack, when talent is available, resources are cheaper. This is a fact whenever there is a lack people outsource more. Organizations don't want to hire the workers for full time in recession.

Western companies started viewing India as good place to outsource big research work, website development, designing work etc. If we talk about long-term market then we can say when the recession in the US financial market come down, Indian IT and BPO/ KPO companies will be in good position to get more outsource projects from the US companies.

Recently Indian outsourcing software and web development industry have started a new strategy to compete with recession by keeping their expenses as such and higher the working time of the staff, higher the quality of out put and reduce the out put time.

Amar Kalra
http://www.googlelance.com

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Amar_Kalra

Cut Operational Costs - Hiring Offshore Dedicated Resources

Hiring offshore resources for carrying out software development is becoming popular. Hiring is simply an extension of your company's seamless extension at your outsourcing partner's offshore development center, where the focus is on long-term gains from offshore software and application development outsourcing. Through dedicated facilities your partner can provide a continuous and cost effective solution with precise resources, equipment and infrastructure exclusively for your company with the best skill sets.

Hiring offshore programmers from India can cost your company somewhere between 16 - 20 USD depending on project complexity, skill set and resource experience required and can save approximately 60% of the cost including all facilities like workstation, internet, office equipments etc.

How it Works?

Upon getting a requirement your outsourcing partner prepare the requirement profile. This profile, which includes the desired qualifications in a person and required experience, is circulated among the human resource data banks. Your outsourcing partner then provides you with a choice of resumes to narrow down the ideal candidate. Once you have short listed, you can then interview them before final selection.

Normally a 1-year contract is desirable with minimum 4 resources commitment which makes it fair for the candidate as well as allows your company to choose from better candidates. However, depending on project scope and complexity, the contract period can be negotiated. Full time equivalent rate / Billing rate for 160 hrs / month, one year commitment are quoted to your company with every resume.

Advantages

The cost to start your business is very low.
Immediate Access to IT expertise.
Project tracking.
Scalable results and development.
Fast tracking and crashing of resources.
Ideal for any team size.

iBoss Tech Solutions Pvt. It sounds cliché, but looking for the company that fits your exact needs is just like searching for a spouse. It's because a successful outsourcing relationship is based on the same principles as a successful marriage.

Trust - First, foremost, and distantly the most important is trust. Just like you trust your spouse to be there for you, you must be able to trust your outsourcing provider to complete the task you hired them to do. A good strategy for discovering the trustworthiness of a company is to talk to their customers and ex-customers, and not only references given by their sales team. Ask about their ability to deliver on promises and how reliable they are, especially in crisis mode. Be sure to ask for specific instances. In my experience references are often more than willing to give you feedback whether it's good or bad. As this is a fine strategy for outsourcing, I don't necessarily recommend going through your fiancée's phone book and calling up old flings to see how he or she handles prospective in-law visits.

Communication - Communication is key to any successful relationship. During the beginning phase of marriage, there's that initial excitement and constant text messaging, emailing, and calling. The same should be with your outsourcing relationship. If you email the outsourcing company inquiring about their services and they respond to you within twenty-four hours, I'd say they are a solid contender. Obviously on the converse, if they take forever to respond, that's a pretty good indicator of what the relationship will be down the road. In addition to response time, cultural differences must be noted. If a company responds in ten minutes, but the responding email is written entirely in hieroglyphics or the grammar of a seven year old; that should throw up a red flag. If the outsourcing company is overseas, the cultural barrier can pose a problem, but many companies have very effective methods to ensure the best possible communication with English-speaking firms.

Respect - The basis for all the other aspects of a relationship is respect. As a husband and wife must treat each other as individual adults, there must a mutual understanding that both your company and the outsourcing provider are professional businesses with different goals. If a company communicates with you and works fervently to get your business, they'll probably work hard for you if you hire them. If a company neglects to comply with deadlines you've placed or fails to communicate despite a history of satisfied customers, they are probably not interested enough in your business to respect your requests and probably won't work well with you in the long run. There is no guaranteed technique to uncovering a company's level of respect except treating them first with respect and evaluating how they respond. Again, as with marriage, it's a two-way street.

Robbie Sherrard is an outsourcing expert for Truss Networks. Consolidation

Expect some significant consolidation on the horizon. Outsourcing competition is more aggressive than ever with a huge expansion in the number of suppliers. Industry experts are predicting more mergers and acquisition activity over the next couple of years.

2. Increased Outsourcing to China

There has long been talk of India losing its edge in the offshore outsourcing market. However; Major cities in China close the gap year-by-year and is taking major steps to close the skills gap for many types of outsourcing sectors. The trend also encourages greater specialization as smaller providers seek to differentiate themselves in an ever more crowded marketplace

3. Niche Outsourcing

Specialist providers are successfully getting more deals at the loss of both the top level service providers and the lower midrange providers. As the outsourcing market rapidly continues to expand the larger service providers can carry on protecting their earnings even with a reducing market share, the most likely affected will be the midlevel service providers who do not have a good strategy to overcome this problem. So many of the large long-established service providers may change their focus and try to win more of the smaller contracts

4. Person-to-person offshoring

The idea of offshoring and online outsourcing is more commonly associated with large-scale business and the relocation of back-office functions. But there is growing momentum on a much smaller scale. Offshoring and online outsourcing has reached small businesses private homes. Examples of services performed include online tutoring, web and software development, and writing and translation services.

5. Virtual worlds

The evolution of social networking has brought about the emergence of a virtual world called "Second Life". A partnership between Sweden based Entropia Universe and Beijing based Cyber Recreation Development. The 3D world is where "residents" can interact and setup businesses. It's still early days for virtual world-based outsourcing but businesses like Adidas, Sun Microsystems and Nissan are already onboard and the momentum is likely to build. Over the longer term, customer-contact jobs such as helpdesk or call centre roles could migrate into virtual worlds, where customers can be informed and entertained.

By Tamas Stowers

Learning Centre Writer

http://www.mytino.com

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Tamas_Stowers

Tamas Stowers - EzineArticles Expert Author

Payroll Outsourcing Costs

Payroll outsourcing costs are negligible when compared to the expenditure incurred in processing payroll with in-house staff. According to statistics, 40% of the entire administration time of a small business concern deals with payroll processing. Payroll outsourcing is a cost–effective solution for proper profit management. The cost of outsourcing is based on the specific services provided. Most of the companies offer some basic packages as well as advanced versions. The price of the package varies with the added advantages.

Payroll outsourcing costs depend on the printing of checks also. An extra amount is charged for printed check delivery to the client. In addition to a basic account charge, the cost of a check on average is $2 to $3. Each additional function is charged nominally. A small business will likely have to pay $3 to $5 per check for a full service solution.

Normally the charges are calculated from the figures given to the company when setting up the account. The charge varies with the number of employees. Some packages offer a slab system for the number of employees. For a particular slab, only the period of service is charged. If the number of employees exceeds the basic slab, then another charge package has to be subscribed to. Larger employee concerns can avail of attractive cheaper packages.

The packages cost starts from $10. An average cost-effective package costs $15 to $30. Survey reports state that an average business enterprise spends at least $59 on payroll costs. Quarterly charges are also collected along with the usual charges. Customers can opt for annual plans which generally cost around $199-$299.

Many companies offer payroll processing. Very often, these companies also offer free trials. The selection of the service provider must be done only after a thorough evaluation of the market and comparison of competitive prices and services.

Payroll Outsourcing provides detailed information on Payroll Outsourcing, Payroll Outsourcing Companies, Payroll Outsourcing Services, Payroll Tax Outsourcing Services and more.

* Guru.com
* eLance
* RentACoder
* ScriptLance
* HotScripts

Important Reasons to Outsource Work

The internet is changing everyday, as more and more companies choose to conduct business online. Ecommerce is also growing exceptionally every single month. As such, the demand for experienced workers continues to get larger, and the supply usually isn't enough. In other words, businesses these days have many reasons to outsource work.

Oftentimes companies have too much work to do in areas where not all employees are sufficient. This work can even include smaller tasks that no employee has anytime for since they're all working on larger projects. This is why there are so many important reasons to outsource work.

There are numerous reasons to outsource work, and not only does outsourcing help the company out, but it gives the outsourcing workers a change to earn money as well. One important reason to outsource work is that non-contract or freelance workers sometimes charge less rates than normal, in order to get some experience. The company also saves a lot of money by not having to pay for training, benefits, equipment, and so forth.

Here is a list of many important reasons to outsource work:

• It establishes relationships and increases connections with high quality service providers.
• It saves time and frees up resources, which in turn gives the company more time to increase customer satisfaction.
• If the service provider has experience in dealing with certain problems, he or she can be a great asset to the company.
• The company can save on labor and training costs.
• Time is money, and by outsourcing work, a company can more easily keep up the pace.
• It reduces the overall operation costs.
• By outsourcing work to professional freelance providers, a company can obtain a competitive edge over competing companies.

There are obviously many reasons to outsource work. If a company lacks expertise in a certain area, it can harness the expertise and talent of a qualified service provider. The employees of a company can only do so much, so it's essential that the extra work and small details are outsourced to talented service providers.

This means that the company will have more time, money, and resources that it can use on larger projects. This ensures overall success and customer satisfaction. The service providers will want to impress the company with their talent and will work hard in perfecting the project.

The outsourced work will be completed perfectly and in a timely manner, and in return, the company will want to work with the service providers more in the future. The customers of course will be pleased. Thus, everybody wins! This gives the company more reasons to outsource in the future.

Just as long as the company outsources to qualified providers, it's a win-win situation. While there are service "providers" out there who have no idea what they're doing or what they're getting themselves into, the company can strike gold if they choose qualified professionals.

Whenever a company finds reasons to outsource work, the internet is a great place to find talented service providers. As long as a company has reasons to outsource work, it can find the right person or persons willing to do it. Whether a company needs talented writers, graphic designers, data entry workers, telephone operators, translators, editors, etc., the internet is a great place to find them.

In summary, there are many reasons to outsource work. Outsourcing saves time, money, and increases overall productivity. It's completely risk free, just as long as a company chooses a talented professional. No matter what reasons a company chooses to outsource work, everyone can come out a winner.

Matt Henderson, owner of MyOnlineSuccess.com, is an affiliate internet marketing coach. When it comes to the ethics of outsourcing, matters become more complicated, as parities involved are continents away. A judicious choice between the right and the wrong person to do business with will determine the future of your outsourcing venture.
Why is it important to do business with organizations that are ethical?

Ethical compliance presents a strong public image and upholds the integrity and character of an organization. Whether personal or professional, not many of us will want to associate with unethical individuals. It makes a lot more sense to do business with ethical organizations as it has a direct influence on the overall functioning of a business.

When things go wrong!

This is the acid test. The way your outsourcing partner reacts during a crisis is the best indicator of whether it is ethical or unethical. When there is mutual trust and responsibility towards each other, a crisis management mechanism will automatically evolve. Ethics creates a space for itself and in ensuring the smooth running of businesses.

Legal aspects

Legal perceptions may differ from one nation to the other and ambiguity could arise when a dispute occurs, leaving both parties in a fix. The association becomes easier when the parties have a legal, moral and ethical obligation to comply with the agreement, with due respect to international law.

Information Security

The core concern of outsourcing ethics is confidential information security. Privacy and security fall under the ‘no compromise zone’. Sujoy Chohan, a consultant at IT research specialists, Gartner Company, says, “If there is any industry which is investing in security tremendously, it is the offshore industry, whether it is India or elsewhere”.

Chief Privacy Officers are highly concerned about proper information security practices. If your outsourcing partner does not have adequate information security measures, it might be wise to stay clear of them.

How does an outsourcer identify organizations which are doing ethical business?

Everyone claims to be ethical. Though a clear definition of the parameters for identifying organizations with ethical conscience will be a difficulty, some factors are vivid.

Vendor reliability

It is nothing but trust that makes someone want to outsource. Weigh the dependability and reliability of the organizations to which you want to outsource.

A clear definition and practice of the ethical rules and privacy policies of the organization like non-disclosure of trade secrets, secrecy and non-disclosure contracts with staff, third party service providers and visitors is a prerequisite. This will reassure the outsourcer that it is safe to do business with a partner who is miles away.
Employee Credibility

Information security will largely depend on the people who handle the information. Organizations that implement tough employee credibility measures have a direct implication on its outsourcing ethics.

Communication

Clear and open communication channels are another sign of an ethical company. When a project does not go the right way, an ethical partner will always keep you informed of the problem and possible solutions and time needed.

Inquiry

A thorough enquiry should be made about the organization and their nature of work management. Talking to the employees and references will give a clear idea about the professional approach of an organization. Check if the following requirements are met by your outsourcing partner:

•Proper information security systems

•Appropriate quality certifications such as ISO 9000 or SEI CMM

•Appropriate programs to protect the trade secrets of its clients, partners and their customers

•Infrastructure

•Training and upgrading the security skills and awareness of employees.

•Safety of electronic data storage

•Presence of a whistleblower

•Proper arrangement with third party service providers

How does being ethical help in reducing the risks of offshore outsourcing?

You can always find companies that offer services at very low costs. An ethical concern might seem to be a costlier choice. However, the price difference could be deceptive as the variation will only be in the initial cost. In the long run, the overall cost will prove to be much lower when you are working with an ethical partner.

Ethical vs. Unethical partnership

Unethical partnership:

•The cost of maintaining the project and the relationship will be high

•Lack of trust

•Strained relationship

•Non disclosure of facts

•Lack of transparency

Ethical Partnership:

•Reduced costs

•Reduced risk

•Common focus

•Relationship equilibrium

•Knowing the risks and managing them together

•Proper management systems

Client responsibilities

Before making an outsourcing decision, the outsourcer should also be clear about the responsibilities that he should share. This will help in building a healthy relationship base.

•willingness to discuss

•manage expectations

•last agreed document should be the basis

•build flexibility to contracts

•openness to intermediate scope and price review

Make sure that all the loop holes which can disrupt the outsourcing process are dealt with. The benefits of outsourcing are sure to show up with safe outsourcing practices.

This content was provided by outsource2india. This is an estimated figure according to our calculations revealed in this white paper.

For quite some time, there had been claims from offshore vendors that IT work that would cost $100 an hour in the United States can be done for $20 an hour in India or China. If those figures sound too good to be true, that's because they are.

The real thing is, no one saves 80 % by shipping IT work to another country. In order to find out what are the hidden costs of outsourcing, you should pay attention to all the figures highlighted on the following pages.

TABLE OF CONTENTS

· Introduction

· Cost of Selecting the Vendor

· Cost of Transition

· Cost of Managing an Offshore Contract

· Let's sum it up

· Conclusion

Introduction

In this white paper, we will explore the total cost of outsourcing by uncovering the hidden figures that boost up your bill. There are areas where you will have to invest more than you thought in the beginning, issues where things like poor processes and productivity can eat away potential savings and places where you can end upspending just as much as you would do it without outsourcing.

The Cost of Selecting a Vendor (1-10%)

With any outsourced service, the expense of selecting a service provider can vary from 0.2 % to 2 % in addition to the annual cost of the deal. These selection costs include documenting requirements, sending out RFPs and evaluating the responses, and negotiating a contract. A project leader may be working full time on this, with others chipping in, and all of this represents an opportunity cost. There are also thelegal fees. Some companies hire an outsourcing adviser for about the same cost as doing it themselves. To top it off, the entire process can take from six months to a year, depending on the nature of the relationship.

Even when there is an existing tie between the customer and offshore vendors, the expensive and lengthy step of vendor selection is a must-do for successful outsourcing.

At this stage, travel expenses enter the picture as well. A trip overseas helps CIOs get comfortable with their choice.

Estimation: Expect to spend an additional 1 to 10 % on vendor selection and initial travel costs.

Choose the best sourcing model

According to a study released by Gartner, many CIOs are still focused on short-term savings rather than longterm business success when establishing outsourcing relationships - and that it's costing them in the long run.

Cost of Selecting the Vendor

· Putting together the RFQ/RFP

· Distributing the RFQ/RFP and

collecting the feedback

· Analyzing and short listing

· Due Diligence

· Management Sponsorship

· Decision to Outsource

In order to address these issues, the organization must know that they can choose from among eight basic sourcing models to best exploit established or future capacity, whether the organization gets its services from internal staff, external staff or through a partnership. You must take each of the following models into account before rushing to choose one vendor or another, or even before taking the decision to outsource.

8 SOURCING MODELS

• Internal delivery: The current status of most organizations' IT or process operations

• Shared service or captive center: A centralized - onshore or offshore - service organization delivering IT services or business processes for an organization, also known as an "insourcing" organization

• Full outsourcing: A single contract with one provider for the full scope of services

• Joint venture: A separate service company built and co-owned with an external service provider (or other client organizations in case of consortium), which is expected to provide management and expertise

• Best-of-breed consortium: A group of external service providers, with a lead provider established for a large contract

• Brand service company: A way to share IT services (and often non-IT services and processes) to leverage the market, selectively outsource parts of the services and, in some cases, provide services to the market

• Selective outsourcing: Separate outsourcing contracts for selected IT functions or business processes, using a best-of-breed tactical approach and competitive deals

• Prime contractor: Provides management and integration of multiple service providers to derive a single or global solution or service In some sourcing arrangements - including multisourcing, transformational relationships and project work - an organization may want to consider additional options to get the services it needs. Specialists suggest several sourcing options sit below the sourcing models.

· The sourcing of technical or business skills

· The sourcing of a project or a part of it

According to a survey of 945 IT professionals, more than 50% of the respondents said they expected to see significant cost savings by outsourcing. Fewer organizations said their objective in outsourcing was to make companies more competitive in the market.

Gartner Inc., 2006

· The sourcing of management

· The sourcing of an IT service

· The sourcing of a business process

· The sourcing of a business solution etc.

Organizations can choose from these sourcing options based on their tolerance for risk and their willingness to accept or transfer management responsibility for the delivery of services.

Selecting an External Service Provider requires personnel resources and access to data, key processes and procedures, generally for a short period of time. These resources are crucial to maintaining the schedule and meeting objectives. Develop and follow a formal, specific timeline for each step in the process. This timeline provides rigor, reduces costs, helps maintain enthusiasm, and provides for an overall coordination of the organizational and External Service Provider personnel who manage the process.

Too many organizations, however, focus only on selecting the lowest-cost source. Organizations must institutionalize an effective and efficient process that enables the source selection team to make the best value selection (which is often not the lowest cost selection).

Cost benchmarking to the current market?

If the price (regarding the in-scope, requested services) is not appealing enough for the client, a typical vendor reaction is to offer fewer services, reducing the scope. The offer will include only those services for which the vendor can provide the best results, and it will simply leave the rest - by default - under the client's

responsibility.

This causes two major problems for the client:

• The responsibility issue: The client must manage the overall service, being responsible by default for

everything that will not be done by the vendor (i.e., not clearly agreed in the contract).

• The cost issue: The client will incur all costs associated in both doing everything that will not be delivered by the vendor (i.e., not clearly agreed in the contract) and managing on top of that the services delivered, the contract and the vendor relationship.

- Supplier delivery commitments

- Is cost/quality appropriate for services delivered, or distorted by supplier issues?

- Does outsourcing compare favorably against in-house service delivery?

- Are internal contract management costs and time appropriate?

The Cost of Transition (2-3%)

The transition period is perhaps the most expensive stage of an offshore endeavor. It takes from three months to a full year to completely hand the work over to an offshore partner. If company executives aren't aware that there will be no savings- but rather significant expenses-during this period, they are in for a nasty surprise.

Costs of transition are typically bundled into the cost of the overall outsourcing deal. However, in the case of complex BPO involving migration to new IT platforms and systems, which is more than labor arbitrage, Gartner sees separate contracts drawn up to cover these costs. Best practice is for a single comprehensive plan of activities to be created and used as the master plan for the entire transition. The greater the complexity, the higher the transition cost. Costs retained by the client must also be factored into the business case when contemplating an outsourcing deal.

CIOs must bring a certain number of offshore developers to their headquarters to analyze the echnology and architecture before those developers can head back to their home country to begin the actual work.

Cost of Transition

· Transition project management

· Third-party consultant oversight (if outside verification and validation is needed)

· Communications (resources to write, manage and facilitate, as well as the potential use of public relations firms to communicate outsourcing deal/transition messages to the public)

· Human capital management (can include severance, outplacement, retention bonuses, "re-skilling" and hiring costs)

· Legal fees (interpretation of the contract, third-party contracts, established vendor contracts if an interface is needed with the new provider)

· Technical costs (development/ integration costs to new interfaces, porting of code to new platforms)

And CIOs must pay the prevailing home country hourly rate to offshore employees on temporary visas, so obviously there's no savings during that period of time, which can take months. And the offshore employees have to work in parallel with similarly costly in-house employees for much of this time. Basically, it's costing the company double the price for each employee assigned to the outsourcing arrangement (the offshore worker and the in-house trainer). In addition, neither the offshore nor in-house employee is producing anything during this training period.

During the transition, the offshore partner must put infrastructure in place. While the offshore partner incurs that expense, the customer should monitor the process carefully. Often it can take longer than expected.

Estimation: Expect to spend an additional 2 % to 3 % on transition costs.

Hidden Costs of Transition:

The Cost of Layoffs - Laying off employees as a result of your offshore contract poses other sometimes unanticipated costs. To begin with, you have to pay many of those workers severance and retention onuses.

Layoffs can also cause major morale problems among in-house "survivors," in some cases leading to disaffection and work slowdowns. Companies with experience in offshoring factor productivity dips and potential legal action from laid-off employees into the cost-benefit analysis.

%Estimation: Expect to pay an extra 3 % to 5 % on layoffs and related costs.

The Cultural Cost - One of the biggest impediments to offshore savings is productivity. You simply cannot take a person in your home country and easily replace him/her with one offshore worker. One reason for that is the home country workers' comfort level with speaking up and offering suggestions.

Another productivity killer is high turnover at offshore vendors. Attrition rates climb as high as 35 % in India, according to the National Association of Software and Service Companies. Turnover can cost an additional 1 % to 2 %.

Finally, communication issues can slow things to a halt. Language and other cultural differences can cost an extra 2 % to 5 %.

%Estimation: Expect to spend an extra 3 % to 27 % on productivity lags.

The Cost of Ramp-up (ensuring Quality, processes and procedures)

Well-defined and accepted internal software development and maintenance processes are also key to making an offshore situation work. If a company doesn't create solid in-house processes, the vendor will have to put more people onsite to compensate for your inadequacies, and they'll spend all of your savings.

The ability to write clear specifications is also critical to achieving offshore savings. Creating a great spec package is costly and time-consuming. On a 1,000 man-hour project for example, the staff will spend 100 hours to create a spec package.

At the other end of the process is quality assurance (QA) testing, an area which must become more robust in an offshore arrangement.

%Estimation: Expect to spend an extra 1 % to 10 % on improving software development processes.

The Cost of Managing an Offshore Contract (6-10%)

Managing the actual offshore relationship is also a major additional cost. There's a significant amount of work in invoicing, in auditing, in ensuring cost centers are charged correctly, in making sure time is properly recorded.

Each project manager oversees the effort. He audits the time sheets from the vendor and rolls the figure into an invoice, which then has to be audited against the overall project, which is then funneled to finance for payment.

Sometimes, managing the offshore vendor is such a big task that you have to assign someone to handle it on a half-time basis. The individual must make sure projects move forward, and develop and analyze vendor proposals against the RFPs when it comes time to bid out new work.

% Estimation: Expect to pay an additional 6 % to 10 % on managing your offshore contract.

Now let's sum it up

What we skipped in mentioning so far, are the well-known standard costs of outsourcing that every company will provide you. That is because we wanted to emphasize exactly on the "tricky" hidden costs that will give you a more realistic view on how much will outsourcing bite from you budget.

The IT research company, Gartner, provides us with the following standard figures in %age of what you must specify in the contract about payment.

Furthermore we add another table with what we have outlined on the previous pages. Therefore you can see that the real costs you pay for outsourcing is somewhere between 13-65% higher than you think in the beginning.

Conclusion

The estimation of costs it's a crucial stage in deciding whether, how and what to outsource. You must take into consideration every single aspect that might boost your bill.

And what's more important, instead of focusing on low cost when choosing an outsourcing partner, you will gain more by looking at the bigger picture, and scrutinizing if the firm has the necessary resources and the ability to deliver. The firm should be a part of the strategic decisions taken by the parent company and commitments should based on long-term returns that benefit the business as a whole rather than just saving on short-term costs.

http://www.outsourcing-factory.com

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Gerard_Szatvanyi

Offshore Outsourcing

Certain companies contract their businesses or part of their businesses to other companies located in foreign countries. This business procedure is called offshore outsourcing. Offshore outsourcing has become a very feasible trend for companies that are expanding or just trying to reduce their overhead expenses.

It makes good economical sense to outsource business to a developing country. Developing countries like India have the human resources to conduct businesses, but they may not have the capital to set up huge infrastructures. Such offshore countries are usually willing to do business at a fraction of the cost, as they pay their employees less and also have an easier structure of tax payments. This profit carries on to the outsourcing company.

Another advantage is that the portion of the business outsourced (which may be sales, telemarketing, research, etc.) no longer remains the concern of the outsourcing company. The offshore company hires its own experts and professionals. This creates a constructive division of labor that becomes fruitful to both the outsourcing company and the offshore company.

Outsourcing may be a way for a company to lay roots in a foreign country where they may be thinking of expanding. Hence, a company may outsource its business to a company in India in order to understand the prevailing Indian market and to adjudge the Indian customer. This may be a ploy to sooner or later open a branch in India. Huge conglomerates that are perpetually expanding opt for outsourcing as a survey method rather than as a method for garnering more business.

There are certain dangers to outsourcing. One of the most prominent is the exposure of sensitive data to foreign countries. It may not just be the question of data – even secret organizational tactics and managerial strategies may be exposed that could prove to be detrimental to the parent company. There may also be dangers relating to restrictions and dissimilar legislations in the offshore country that sometimes require changes in business policies. Outsourcing is also responsible for the distance it creates between the employer company and the employees. This deters the employers from building good rapport with their employees.

However, if a company has correctly assessed its limitations, then outsourcing may make good business sense. It may also provide dynamism in the economy of a developing country.

Offshore Outsourcing provides detailed information on Offshore Outsourcing, Offshore IT Outsourcing, India Offshore Outsourcing, Offshore Call Center Outsourcing and more. You would find the existence of several organizations. For example, there are business organizations that produce goods or services. All these organizations exist to achieve pre-determined objectives. Though there are vast differences in their functioning and approaches, they all strive to achieve certain objectives. It must also be noted that organizations cannot achieve the objectives effortlessly. They are achieved through systematic effort. Several activities have to be performed in a cohesive way. In the absence of systematic and cohesive performance of the activities to achieve the objectives, it is no wonder that the resources of organizations would simply remain as resources.

Outsourcing is one such process, which can not only help in attaining the objective of the organization but can also help immensely in utilizing your resources. Thus, outsourcing can be defined as a business decision that can be made for quality or financial reasons. It is evident that the emphasis is on achieving the objectives by using the inputs like material, machinery, money and the services of men. These inputs are drawn from the environment in which the organization exists. Whether an organization is engaged in business or non-business, the various inputs are judiciously used in outsourcing to produce the outputs. This process which involves the conversion of inputs into outputs is common to all organizations.

Depending on the nature of business or activity tha

Reasons on Why You Should Do Outsourcing

The business horizon for any business in the US or for that matter any company in the world anywhere has changed considerably. Initially the companies used to think the home territory as their own but that is not the case anymore.

More and more companies from outside the US are coming and doing business here and vice versa is also true.

When the foreign companies come and do business in the US they have access to cheaper pool of labor and great amount of subsidies for them by the government. Sam is not true for American companies and hence they have very high cost structure.

That said you cannot compete with that company on the cost alone if everything is the same. The playing field is likely to become uneven. So what options are you left with as a company. You will have to do the same as that company is doing and that is get into a lower cost structure. The aim for you is to reduce the cost for your for a lot of things.

The answer to that is simple. Go to the third world developing countries and outsource. The way outsourcing works is that some of the work can be done from people who are sitting far away from your location. One example being answering the phone calls for the customers. Anyone can answer the customer's phone call if she has a phone connection. Now if that person happens to be in India, Brazil or Philippines hardly makes a difference.

So make sure that you identify the services which can be pruned here and then hire a company in that country which will do the business for you. It is very true in case of information technology related where there is no customer interface and a lot of companies are doing the work from India mainly.

The other benefit of doing this apart from cutting costs to get that competitive edge is that you can use the freed up labor for more productive use here. Also the time zone difference helps because then you have people working for you 24x7.

A lot of people are against the sending of work to other countries as it reduces the amount of work US people will have but the fact is that in this competitive world you will not survive with this cost structure. So the choice is between survival as a company and the pruning of employee base here.

The author writes is a outsourcing evangelist who has a business card translation guide and has a resource which tells about the good business card translation practices.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=John_Border

Outsourcing Your Internet Marketing Business' Busy Work

It is very easy for internet marketers to get overwhelmed with all the work that needs to be done to become and stay successful online. Those who do well online, while still maintaining their sanity and having a life, have learned the value of outsourcing. Outsourcing can be one of your biggest weapons. It allows you to accomplish much more then you can do on your own. It also gives you the opportunity to work on the things that you like doing the most. Below, we will discuss common tasks that can easily be outsourced, saving you time and giving you peace of mind.

a. Article Writing: Many online marketers and website or blog owners prefer to outsource their article writing. Articles are great to use to advertise your business. They can be submitted to article directories and social networking sites. Articles can also be added as web content. Websites that are updated on a consistent basis tend to do better in the search engines.

b. Web Building: Web building requires some software skills that many people do not have. Instead of spending many frustrated hours trying to figure out how to build a website when you are not a "technical" person, simply hire someone else to do it. There are lots of very skilled persons that do phenomenal work. It would be worth the effort and peace of mind to outsource your web building needs.

c. Forum Posting: Forums can be used to advertise. You may want to pay someone to make new posts on related forums or contribute to open conversations. Placing your signature link in your forum posts gives you an opportunity to advertise your website or business absolutely free and to people that are interested in your niche.

d. Support: There are a few very good Support software packages that will allow people to submit tickets. However, someone has to answer those questions and concerns. Instead of you being bogged down with support responses, if business is good enough, you might want to consider outsourcing this to someone else.

e. Graphic Design: Professional looking graphics can really give your website or product a huge boost. Because people can not actually see your product, you have to provide a picture for them. Your product needs to seem tangible and attractive. The problem is, it is difficult to create nice looking, customized graphics. Therefore, it is often necessary to pay someone to provide graphic design for your business.

f. E-book Creation: If you do not like to write, barely passed high school English or do not want to spend the time crafting an e-book from scratch, you may want to outsource these projects. Doing so allows you to spend time doing other productive things such as marketing the products you already have or are an affiliate for. If you can find a good writer or a few of them, you can crank out new products very quickly and add to your online product arsenal. The more products you have, the greater potential you have to make more money.

Need a quick and easy solution for driving targeted traffic to you website? Go here: Drive Traffic to My Website.

Scott Brooks is a successful internet marketer who has been working online since 2004. Software needs to undergo a step-by-step process before it is available for general use to leverage best industry practices at minimum cost, meeting international standards and industry norms. Nowadays, everyone of us, an individual or an enterprise wants to be at the top, but just gaining the top positioning won’t do; retaining and maintaining that position is of utmost consideration. Outsourcing software applications to offshore companies has strong impulse to monetize spending of business players.

Software outsourcing gathered strength with increasing number of sources available in present IT-edge, requirements delivery in possible least time, less skilled personnel available, discrete communication and inefficient management of various modules within a large enterprise. These corporate players started looking and relying on third party for better management at lesser cost and remain competitive in the global marketplace. These are the few factors that led big companies to outsource their software application development to offshore companies where they find time zone difference from eastern countries most attractive, cheaper human capital, rich resources, and skilled professional and low processes cost. Market analysis shows gradual penetration of investors in Indian market and other developing countries. We find increased productive, managed easy solutions where full control remains in the hand of outsourcing companies.

40% of the Fortune 500 companies including GE, Lucent, Oracle, Microsoft, Motorola are leveraging the outsourcing model. The list is growing depending upon the onsite and the outsource resources available. Offshore Software Outsourcing is the most leading area of outsourcing. Cost saving by adopting this model can vary from 40% to 70%.

Manipulating overall strategy (considering failure and success) we find overall the offshore outsourcing campaign is a success. Objective is to maximize the ROI, remain competitive and reduce upbringing cost.

Remember offshoring software outsourcing is not always the solution, so before moving to it, the best approach is to find the niche requirement and then find solution to the root problem. Proper synchronization between onshore and offshore team members, improved processes, and better time management and growth opportunities for both developed and developing countries are among few benefits that offshore software outsourcing companies are enjoying.

Icreon, is an Offshore IT Outsourcing Company, SAP business channel partner that savvy your business needs by providing elite Offshore Software Outsourcing solutions.

Rakhi, is a experienced SEO content writer at Icreon Communications Pvt. When confronted with the opportunity to outsource, many opt not to pursue this direction because there is a feeling of loss of control. Used correctly, the ability to use outsourcing can improve operational performance and individual job quality no matter whether the outsourced activity provided is product or services. What has made this approach popular with some companies and avoided by others? Why is outsourcing a good idea for companies? Is outsourcing a viable strategy given the business environment of today? If so, to what extent is it appropriate for your business?

The idea of outsourcing has grown beyond the idea of product or component part production. The initial concept of supply-chain management coupled with lean manufacturing techniques support outsourcing components and can be illustrated well when reading Henry Ford's comments on the subject:

"The task of putting business on better foundations depends on every department of the business and not alone on the manufacturer."1

The resulting effects on industry have been substantial for large manufacturers and especially for businesses with smaller work forces where the ramifications have been substantial. In many cases, their ability to use this approach has fostered their competitive advantage and provided a sustained period of business growth.

Businesses are increasingly hiring specialized service firms that perform services that they used to provide for themselves. A company's ability to specialize or provide a more sophisticated service creates opportunities not previously available for many businesses. Growth in the underlying need for services is driven by several factors including the need for increased sophistication, globalization, and the ever-increasing aspect of management complexity.2 Specialized forms of services have proliferated, as has the complexity of needs in such established service industries as advertising, accounting, consulting, information systems, market research, and investment banking. The companies that are able to create advantages by working smarter and staying cost competitive will be the companies that will have the ability to survive the increased competition, aggressive pricing, and sustain the threats from international competition.

Are products and services affected in the same way? Specialization and sophistication are occurring in both areas. However, services are actually being de-integrated or removed from the businesses. This de-integration result actually is a net increase in service provision being provided to the organization. The trend in graphic arts industries is toward integration, or in-house provision, though this industry is considered non-traditional and does not reflect the trend by the majority of other service industries.3

By far the greatest reason for lack of outsourcing within any industry, no matter whether product of service related, is the fear of loss of control. The pervasive thought that the product can be produced better or the service performed better can be an inherent part of a business culture that can cause stagnation and large inefficiencies. Individual managers or owners will many times decide that the opportunities to vertically integrate demand in-house functions to remain "in-house". Thus maintaining quality standards that cannot be supposedly matched by outside sources or incur increased costs that will impact the sale of the product or service.

The services that are being provided have grown and are continuing to grow due to three underlying factors: the specific need for increased sophistication by service providers, the de-integration of services previously performed as an in-house function, and the privatization of public services.4 Many of these service firms have reinvented themselves during the last decade due to the increased use of information technology. It has allowed increased productivity from the individuals that are part of the firm as well as increased the amount of information and number of services each service firm can offer to their clients. Many of the services are now automated which provide immediate access without a need for direct customer interface. The airlines have taken automated ticketing to new heights via the telephone and the Internet. The new technologies are both the cause and effect of changes the industry structure and the source of major competitive advantage in many service industries.5

Multi-service firms allow their clients to tap into a broader selection of available services. At the root of the growth of these firms is a type of systemization that allows efficient and consistent replication of the services at multiple clients due to standardized employee procedures, internal methodology, automation of the actual service tasks performed by the individual. This has spawned another critical aspect that allows firms to narrow their focus of specialization for their clients. Take for instance, a consulting firm that offers multiple service functions but has true expertise in only a couple of areas. This broad approach has given way to increasingly specialized services such as human resource management, compensation modeling, and strategy definition to name just a few. Specialization leads the service firms to a much more narrow focus which provides better service in the specific areas of client need.

There are several advantages of having a narrower focus within the service firm. Among them are the economies of scale that the service firm can gain with the specificity of a narrow focus area. For example, diagnostic service programs that can be run via a phone modem at a remote location of the client can check software programs and often even correct the problem. Other types of enhanced communication can provide data processing, telemarketing functions, or answering services possible. These are closely related to the centralization needs of the client and are specifically scale-sensitive meaning that activities provided by the service firm are adapted to the client's need to service their clientele on a regional, national, or on a world-wide basis.

Additionally, the aspect of competition and focus are potent advantages for the outside service provider. In-house service departments are at the very least cost centers for the business. This is not to say that an in-house service facilitator cannot be profitable. It does, however, mean that the policies, procedural methodologies, and accomplishments should be regularly measured to not only justify the existence of the department, but also provide adequate pressures and performance incentives when faced with outside service alternatives.

At the same time, in-house service departments do face inherent constraints.6 Understanding barriers that are constraining for a business helps ownership and management better evaluate the performance requirements necessary for an in-house service department to function well. Given the limitations, such as compensation structures and employee benefit packages, those responsible for making the decision should probably opt to outsource the services instead of having them handled internally.

"In-house service units are housed at expensive locations, subject to corporate salary structures and benefit plans, constrained in some cases from using part-time workers, and live under other guidelines that are inappropriate for the nature of the service function provided. The independent service provider, conversely, tailors every aspect of its value chain to the particular service involved."7

The concept of increased cyclicality should be considered by the organization facing inefficiencies. Cyclicality increases the inefficiency of maintaining a permanent service function in-house which provides companies alternatives to converting a fixed cost into a variable one.8 They need only to call on these companies, as the organization requires their services.

Recognized Opportunities to Outsource

Similarity of Service Needs - The aspect of service needs that organizations require have similarities whether competing at the local level or on a global scale. Some service needs may be industry specific, or even segment specific. For example, consulting services tailored to niche industries require years of expertise to understand specific nuances that affect industry trends requiring specific client recommendations. As the demand for services globalizes and competition becomes greater, the actual service performance at the local level may provide a cost advantage to the client. This allows for competition to be somewhat "equalized" for the local firm regardless of a whether the competing firm is considered to have global reach.

Mobility of Buyers - With increased information flow throughout the world, the opportunity for global service firms increases at the local level. In past years, buyers were confronted with minimum options when faced with the need to take in-house services out for bid. The buyer's perspective has increased substantially providing the buyer's organization opportunities today that may have existed in prior years, but were not available or familiar to the buyer. Additionally, the aspect of paying in different currencies is continuing to be less of a concern since many trading blocks have adopted a common currency thus relieving the concern of loss due to currency fluctuation. The Euro is probably the best and most recent example of this.

Rising Economies of Scale and Geographic Scope - The advantages that drive local service competition to open multiple offices or locations are prevalent at the global level as well. It is easier today than at any other time in history for companies to establish an international presence for services that can be outsourced. Economies of scale allow these companies to spread costs in areas such as information technology, personnel training, and capabilities to enhance topline sales revenues. The advantage of global positioning by an organization allows for growth in areas of brand cache, local personnel participation with global perspectives, and the overall advantage of serving other multinational firms similar in scope.

Greater Mobility of Service Personnel - The aspect of telecommuting has grown in recent years because many people prefer to work from home, or are unable to make the commute efficiently to the home office of the service firm. In-home workers are providing companies the opportunity to reap large benefits on productivity and employee satisfaction unobtainable in prior years. If travel is required, the ability to get to an international location is relatively easy and customer contact is relatively short. This again provides economies of scale for the employing organization which enhance the solution for their client.

Information Exchange - Buyer interaction at a distance today is to be expected given the overwhelming amount of information available via the click of a mouse. Samples are available via overnight delivery services. Emails and telephones provide instant access to other individuals needed in the buying process. Employee assessment and testing are available through many consulting service firms where the client has access to use licensed information technology at their discretion and the consulting firm has virtually no client interaction, unless required by the client, except to invoice for the services. This type of service function allows for more access to remote buyers whether face-to-face or not. Employee behavioral assessments illustrate this point well.

Wide Disparities in Cost or Quality - Huge differences remain in costing methods and overall quality of services that can be outsourced. This is true at both the domestic and international level. It is becoming easier today to setup service facilities in India or China due to availability of personnel and the overall cost of the facility itself. Many countries have not made the jump to service outsourcing from manufacturing outsourcing as yet. However, as the world's population continues to grow and the state of development by country is opportunistic, the proliferation of service industries will be advanced.

Buyer/Supplier Relationships - The relationship between the buyer and the supplier is pivotal in the use of service firms for the organization. There are two considerations that should be taken into account when mentioning this aspect. The first is without a local manufacturing base, the demand for outsourced services will be limited. The second is the actual structuring of the manufacturing sector which can strongly influence the types of services to be provided. A certain amount of sophistication is required in order for specialized service firms to exist and be successful such as specialized software application companies or consulting services.9 On the other hand, economies of many third world countries that are non-manufacturing based have no need or demand for out-sourced services. The point being that the more sophisticated service-based economies is more apt to take advantage of the out-sourcing opportunities.

Outsourcing is truly a quality of life issue that faces individual owners and corporate business entities alike. Mature industries where specialized firms are available to be used, should determine what their core competencies are and how they impact exploitation of the firm's competitive advantage. The organization's core competencies should be protected at all costs.

Firms are demanding more opportunities to use outside services that provide increased product quality or sophistication of services. The opportunity to find specific areas that will benefit from these services can make a company more profitable, time efficient, and productive. Employed as a viable company strategy, outsourcing will enhance an organization's ability to sustain upward growth patterns and explore new opportunities by using redefined human resources within the business.

RESOURCES:

The Competitive Advantage of Nations, by Michael E. Moreover, many 21st century businesses exist entirely in the online world. And this makes perfect sense, given the relatively low costs involved in setting up a web site and maintaining it either from home or a small office.

And, whilst in the early days a web site may have been designed merely to augment the existing operations, any company worth its salt will now dedicate a large percentage of its resources towards maintaining and promoting their online presence.

At a time when the global economic climate is looking more uncertain than ever and many forecasts predicting an imminent recession, never has it been more important for businesses to place more focus on all aspects of its revenue-generating activities. As such, there is less focus on the time-consuming behind-the-scenes activities that may be necessary to running a successful business, but simultaneously hinder a company from carrying out their core business functions to the best of its abilities.

And this is why many organisations choose to outsource certain aspects of their operations. Not only does it enable them to concentrate on what it is they do best, but it helps them to tap into the knowledge and expertise of experts in a specific field.

For example, a company may choose to outsource the recruitment side of their business, particularly if they are an organisation with a small staff turnover, as it enables access to a specialised service only when it is required.

Similarly, information technology is a key area for most 21st century businesses. However, a high level of technical expertise is required to optimise this side of operations, whether it's through effective web design, web hosting or network management. By outsourcing such specialised business functions, it can actually be a lot more cost-effective in the long-run, as it is one less area that a business has to worry about becoming an 'expert' in.

Furthermore, using a dedicated server to host all internet and network services can offer a business a far more flexible solution than a shared server can, as it gives the organisation full control over operating systems and choice of hardware. In this respect, dedicated servers are able to offer more security and reliability, as a result.

It is also possible to arrange a server administration service from the hosting company which, ultimately, can offer a far greater return on investment in the long run. And given the current global economic situation, any possible solution that can increase revenue and help to streamline business operations, can surely only be a good thing.

Isla Campbell writes for a digital marketing agency. And who can blame them? Their necks are on the line if something isn't done right. But a good entrepreneur knows her strengths and weaknesses. A good entrepreneur knows when to delegate and what to delegate.

If you are trying to start a business and you don't have time to create your own marketing materials, or you don't know the first thing about how to go about creating marketing materials, you should consider outsourcing.

Before you outsource your marketing campaign, you need to decide on a target market and you need to know your budget. Then you'll know who want to hire based on expertise, and you'll know who you can afford to hire.

Here are the basic types of outsourcing support you can use to help create your marketing materials:

Marketing Agency

A full-service marketing agency can provide many services to you, and probably many things you've never even considered. A marketing agency can do your Public Relations, design everything from brochures to your Web site, buy your media placement, write all of the copy for your marketing materials and can recommend a good full-service printer or a more specific brochure or postcard printing company.

A marketing agency is probably your most expensive option because they staff experts that only work on one aspect of marketing - the copy writer only writes, the designer only designs. And agencies charge by the hour, much like a lawyer. You could have four or five staff members working on your account at once, which means hourly rates of $100 to $300 are not uncommon. But, you get multiple brainpower and professionals with all levels of experience working on your marketing campaign.

They'll take care of everything - even advertising placement. You won't have to do a thing, except sign your approval. Depending on the size of your campaign, you'll need at least $100,000 to use a marketing agency for a full marketing campaign. Keep in mind, though, that you can hire an agency to just do one part of your campaign.

Freelance Copywriters and Designers

Using freelancers can be somewhat cheaper than using a marketing agency. Of course some established duos or trios comprised of copywriters, designers and perhaps an artist might function like small marketing agencies. Anymore, with so many people having their own Web sites, it can be easy to find a writer and designer that can work well together, and that have many years of

experience. It's also possible to find people with expertise in creating marketing campaigns for your industry.

You can place a free ad on Craigslist.org or on a freelance job board, like Elance.com. On Elance.com, you post your project and freelancers bid for your business. This makes it even easier because the freelancers come to you.

Media Buyers

If you don't use a full-service marketing agency, you'll probably need help in creating a media schedule and buying schedule, that places your ads in magazines, newspapers, TV stations, and wherever other media you want to see your ads in.

Media buyers negotiate rates and contracts on your behalf, and they generally make a commission of 15% for their services. This commission amount is pretty standard for marketing agencies too.

Marketing Coach

There are plenty of marketing gurus out there that work on a consulting basis. These people will look at your marketing budget and goals and figure out a strategy for you to follow to meet those goals. Coaches won't do the work for you; just advise you on how to find marketing agencies, freelancers and media buyers along with printers and many other resources you'll need for your marketing materials.

Katie Marcus writes everything about the postcard printing technologies being used by businesses for their marketing and advertising campaigns.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Katie_Marcus

Offshore Outsourcing Trends

Metamorphosis of the web; diffusing cross boundaries; changing growth strategies; with semantic web, social media communities, offshore and outsourcing as major transformation tools has transformed the web world and SMEs and giant IT players have come closer on a common platform to benefit from mutual interaction. These trends have become the IT success mantra. How was this introduced, when did it gain strength? What is its impact and where do you see offshore outsourcing after 5 years from now??

Offshore is relocation of business modules and functions to offshore country or location. This is giving charge of secondary operations i.e. non-core operations to external specialized entity, moving charges from an internal controller. This may not involve offshore movements. Again, multi-sourcing involves different modules sourced from different suppliers and streamlining those modules to attain perfection. Also companies have started outsourcing to more than one country and India is most preferred destination and China is next to it. Merger-and-acquisition activity is recent outsourcing trend that sprouted as a result of very tough competition that exist between IT players.

Ripening outsourcing market in 2006, boundaries smudging and intermingling of resources reflects a very challenging market for offshore outsource players and developers in consecutive years. Strategic outsourcing has reduced risk of relocation of resources and management units to India. Which way to go?? It is not clear that it will generate 100% success; lack of proper consultancy may result in failure.

Global Delivery Model helps the IT companies reach outer wing markets and move parallel to the developed enterprises. Offshoring is taking shape of P2P (person-to-person) trend, and most of the offshoring services include redeployment and very less percentage includes fresh start up and management across. Infrastructure and environmental conditions are other important factors that effect offshore outsourcing. It has improved India's economy condition and India's currency is increasing and US currency value is decreasing. This may divert outsourcers to deviate to other offshore companies. . Inflation and rise of low-cost areas, increased turn-over will lead to shrinkage of Indian market in coming years. Labor cost is the key issue to decide the offshoring location. Its has created a job deficit in US, UK markets; if quality product and services and rich capital are available at the low cost why would anyone invest more for the same. Offshore outsourcing has enabled better resource management, low cost labor, quality and effective results within stipulated time, effective business solutions.

Icreon, is an Offshore Software Development Company, SAP business channel partner that savvy your business needs by providing elite Offshore Outsourcing Software Development business solutions.

Rakhee, is a experienced SEO content writer at Icreon Communications Pvt. With the enormity of the web, getting the exposure required is difficult. Search engines have proven to be the cornerstone of recent web success stories. But the rat race to the top is not easy, and it's certainly not cheap. An SEO firm is an online marketing and web development company that provides solutions to organically increase search engine rankings. Let us analyze the various pros and cons of outsourcing search engine optimization, a hallmark of globalization in a flat world.

Pros

• Cost Efficiency

The foremost reason of to outsource SEO would be the advantage it brings to the bottom line. An SEO firm not only offers highly skilled professionals, but can also significantly reduce costs and delivery times. SEO consultants in India charge roughly half the amount their counterparts in North America or Europe would.

• Highly Skilled Human Resources

All outsourcing destinations have a large pool of highly skilled and trained IT professionals. These individuals are young, competent and informed of cutting edge web technologies.

• Global Standards and Infrastructure

While standards of living may differ, most firms outsource SEO to countries like India that have strong and secure Internet infrastructure. Additionally, global standards are adopted by SEO firms across the web, regardless of their location on the globe.

• Delivery Time and Work Ethic

With the right documentation and effective communication, an SEO firm can efficiently reduce delivery time. This is because most firms work six day weeks with a diligent work ethic.

Cons

• Knowledge Gaps

Since the SEO firm resides thousands of miles away, there is always the fear of choosing one that employs older techniques. The best guide to selecting an SEO firm is past experience; check their references and previous projects.

• Time Zone Issues

Another concern often raised is the timings that both the SEO company and their client would need to work around. After all, come Friday and the weekend has already begun half way around the world. Regular communication can once again save any hassles that the difference in time brings.

About the Author

Convonix Inc. is a search engine optimization firm providing organic SEO services to help you improve search engine rankings and pay per click campaign management services that help you get the most traffic at the least cost resulting in improved ROI.

Follow The Outsourcing Trend With A Service Small Business by Candice Clem

Mention the word outsource in the wrong group of people these days and you're likely to receive some unwanted and rather disgruntled remarks about how the practice is stealing American jobs. That may be true in some cases, as bigger corporations move their tech support facilities and manufacturing plants to foreign nations, but there are other cases in which outsourcing, as a general practice, is creating American jobs. These business service franchises create jobs for the small business owner and his employees who work to provide other small and mid-sized companies with services that they couldn't otherwise afford to hire an in-house staff for. And with the practice of outsourcing becoming more and more common, there is a great deal of wisdom in starting a business service franchise. There are 4 primary areas in which franchises are available in this sector: finance, technology, marketing, and human resources.

Finance
Most smaller businesses simply don't have the resources to pay an in-house accounting staff to attend to financial matters. The next best thing is to outsource the work to other small companies that specialize in the work and can attend to specific matters as they arise, instead of being on staff, taking company dollars year-round.

One good finance home business for the fiscally-minded entrepreneur is Commercial Property Consultants, a premier name in cost segregation analysis. Unlike many finance organizations, Commercial Property Consultants is very specialized in their work, doing nothing but cost segregation, which means that very few companies could do it better. In fact, with 20 years of experience, producing reports for 10,000 clients, they promise that no one does it better. Franchisees need not have prior experience in any particular market; they receive full training and are given a turnkey operation with no future fees and an unlimited territory.

Another lucrative area of business finance is cost containment, and Alliance Cost Containment is one of the hot names in the market. Aside from saving their clients money by being outsourced instead of in-house, Alliance Cost Containment's whole purpose is to analyze client spending, seek better pricing than they're currently getting, and cut client costs everywhere possible. In operation since 1992, this franchise business has been perfecting their tactics, saving clients more time and more money, and teaching franchisees how to best do the same with great success.

Technology
The average business also doesn't have the financial resources, or the need, to hire a fulltime IT staff for in-house work. But as everyone knows, computers will inevitably crash at some point, which can leave a small business in a bit of a pickle.

With access to a work from home business like Nerd Force IT, however, companies without an IT department can solve their computer problems with one call to request a technician. Franchisees enjoy getting to do the work for themselves as well as having all the benefits of being a part of a bigger organization: like the call center, 24/7 helpdesk, support team members for bigger jobs, and large-scale marketing that no small business could accomplish alone. Franchisee and client problems are thus solved.

Marketing
There are many ways to advertise, but many small-scale business owners don't know how to do it and don't have the resources to pay a fulltime staff to do it for them. That doesn't leave them out in the cold, though. Businesses like WSI Internet profit from that kind of situation, while providing the best marketing work that money can buy. This franchise is the nation's best name in internet marketing, sitting at the top of Entrepreneur Magazine's Internet and Technology service franchises list for the last 7 consecutive years. Whether franchisees opt to work at home or open an office location, WSI Internet franchisors teach them all they need to know about finding clients and putting the internet to use as a marketing tool. There is no previous experience necessary, just the desire to use WSI Internet's systems and make a strong and successful business.

With a wider marketing purpose than WSI Internet, franchisees with Advertising Consultants provide a wide range of 20 advertising services to their clients, including brochure making, copywriting, promotional items, magazine ads, television commercials, and internet marketing. For 10 years, this franchise operation has been serving the small business sector, providing them with big-business advertising quality at affordable prices. And the system works for franchisees as well, affording them the freedom to either dive into fulltime work or stay part-time until the home based business is strong enough to sustain the franchisee.

Human Resources
In what seems to be a budding sub-industry in the franchising world, Human Resource Rx is the first of its kind, providing business clients in small and mid-sized operations with outsourced access to HR professionals. Because developing a human resources department can be very costly, and training current employees in the laws associated with that side of business can be time-consuming and a little overwhelming, using existing HR personnel on an outsourced basis is a very wise decision. Human Resource Rx franchisees keep a staff of HR consultants to help small businesses keep their employee relationships legal without costing them an arm and a leg. Franchisees are taught how to manage staff, acquire and maintain a client base, and, if they so desire, how to operate a master franchise for an entire region.

Some people may have demonized the idea of outsourcing labor, but for many small business operators within US borders, outsourcing is their bread and butter, and it could be yours as well. Whatever field interests you, if you'd like to get into the business service industry, there are plenty of business opportunities available: those listed and many others as well. Dig around for further information and see how following the outsourcing trend could work for you.

About the Author

Find more small business opportunities including business service franchises Small Business Sale
