Like 70 years ago Poland again lost the most important people!

Polish President Lech Kaczynski, The First Lady Maria Kaczynska, and number of top Polish officials, 96 people in total were killed after the plane crash in Smolensk, Russia.

Those killed included also the Army Chief and several Army Generals, former President of Poland, President of Council of Advocates, the Head of the National Bank, Chancellor of the University, Poland's Deputy Foreign Minister, Senators, Members of Parliament, Presidential Aides, the Polish ambassador to Moscow, Polish Ombudsman, President of AK (Home Army)--Polish resistance during WWII, Veterans of WWII, President of Institute of National Remembrance, President of Polish Katyn Foundation, Leader of Katyn Committee, Chief of the Polish Olympic Committee, Presidents and Chiefs of other Polish institutions and organizations, Bishops and Priests, Doctors, Polish film and theatrical Actor, translators, representatives of Katyn families, and associates, crew members.

Polish officials were going to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Katyn massacre, where 22,000 Polish officers (military officers, police officers, doctors, engineers, scientists, lawyers, priests, businessmen and officials) were brutally mass murdered in 1940 by Soviet secret police and buried in mass grave in Katyn Forest. Katyn is located ca. 12 mi west of Smolensk, where the Saturday tragedy happened.

In a tragic twist, family members of the Katyn victims were on board the president's plane.

1. Stretching the resistant band

Sit or stand with feet hip-width apart. Bring slightly bent arms in front of you holding the resistant band (if you don't have one, switch it with the elastic fitness pants). Slowly open and close your arms. Don't stop in between reps.

Do 30 reps, in 3 series.

Strengthens chest and shoulders.

2. Women's pushups (wall push-off)

Stand arms' distance from a wall and place hands on wall at shoulder height, slightly more than shoulder width apart, feet hip-width apart, knees slightly bent. Keep bending elbows bringing chest toward wall and then straightening arms pushing away from the wall.

Do 30 reps, in 3 series.

Strengthens chest, front shoulders and triceps. No equipment needed.

3. Arms crossing

Stand feet hip-width apart, knees slightly bent. Holding a light 2 lb dumbbell in each hand at sides, keep your arms straighten in front of you at face height. Vigorously cross and open arms (not more than shoulder width apart).

Do 30 reps, in 3 series.

Strengthens chest and shoulders.

Appliqué

A decoration or ornament made of pieces of fabric, embroidery or other materials sewn (applied) onto another piece of fabric to create designs, patterns or pictures.

Bobbin lace

Bobbin lace is a lace made by braiding and twisting lengths of thread, which are wound on bobbins to manage them. As the work progresses, the weaving is held in place with pins set in a lace pillow, the placement of the pins usually determined by a pattern or pricking pinned on the pillow. Bobbin lace is also known as pillow lace and bone lace, because early bobbins were made of bone or ivory. Bobbin lace is one of the two major categories of hand-made laces. The other one is needle lace.

Chantilly Lace

Chantilly lace is a handmade bobbin lace named after the city of Chantilly in France, which is famous for lace and porcelain. The lace is dating from the 17th century, before the most famous silk laces. Chantilly lace is known for its fine ground, outlined pattern, and abundant detail. The pattern is outlined in cordonnet, a flat untwisted strand. Half-and-whole stitch fill is used to achieve the effect of light and shadow in the pattern, mostly flowers. The best Chantilly laces were made of silk and were generally black, which made them suitable for mourning wear. White Chantilly lace was also made, both in silk and linen. The lace was produced in strips approximately 4” wide and then joined with a stitch that left no visible seam.

Charmeuse

A man-made, silk-like fabric used in various lingerie items. It is preferred over silk because it does not have to be dry cleaned. It is originally French in origin. A satin finished silk fabric.

Chenille

Chenille is a fuzzy fabric with caterpillar appearance. Chenille will look different in one direction compared to another, as the fibers catch the light differently. Chenille can appear iridescent without actually using iridescent fibers. The yarn is commonly manufactured from cotton, but can also be made using acrylic, rayon and olefin.

The chenille yarn is manufactured by placing short lengths of yarn, called the pile, between two core yarns and then twisting the yarn together. The edges of these piles then stand at right angles from the yarn’s core, giving chenille both its softness and its characteristic look.

Many chenille fabrics should be dry cleaned. If hand- or machine-washed, it should be machine-dried using low heat, or dried flat. To avoid stretching, it should never be hung.

Chiffon

Chiffon, from French word for a cloth or rag, is a lightweight, balanced plain-woven sheer fabric woven of alternate twists crepe yarns. The twist in the crepe yarns puckers the fabric slightly in both directions after weaving, giving it some stretch and a slightly rough feel. Chiffon is made from cotton, silk or synthetic fibers. Chiffon can be dyed to almost any shade desired, solid or printed with designs. Under a magnifying glass it resembles a fine net or mesh which gives chiffon some see-through properties.

Chiffon is most commonly used in evening wear, especially as an overlay, giving an elegant and floating appearance to the gown. It is also a popular fabric used in ribbons, scarves and lingerie. Like other crêpe fabrics, chiffon can be difficult to work with due to its light and slippery texture.

Chiffon must be hand washed very gently. Since chiffon is a light weight fabric that frays very easily, bound or French seams must be used to stop the fabric from fraying.

Cotton

Cotton is a natural, soft, staple fiber that grows in a form known as a boll around the seeds of the cotton plant, a shrub native to tropical and subtropical regions around the world. The fiber most often is spun into yarn or thread and used to make a soft, breathable textile, which is the most widely used natural fiber cloth.

Crushed velvet

Velvet with a not shiny, crinkly look.

Denier

A unit or fineness for rayon, nylon, and silk fibers, based on a standard mass per length.

Embroidery

Ornamentation on fabric or garment with needlework. An embellishment in which colored threads are sewn onto the fabric to create a design. Embroidery may be done either by hand or machine.

Eyelet

A type of fabric with patterned cut-out designs, around which stitching or embroidery is applied to prevent the fabric from raveling.

Faux

Faux means imitation. For example, faux leather means imitation leather.

Flocked

It has a design or pattern on fabric that is not intricately part of the fabric.

Jacquard

Any fabric that has a pattern intricately woven into the fabric rather than printed on it. The name comes from Joseph Marie Jacquard who designed a loom attachment capable of weaving patterns into fabric. This attachment provides versatility in designs and permits individual control of each of the warp yarns. Thus, fabrics of almost any type or complexity can be made. Brocade and damask are types of jacquard woven fabrics.

Lining

The name given to material sewn into the inside of a garment to make it more opaque or more comfortable against the skin. Frequently lining is used in a bra to add structure or provide a pretty background to sheer and/or lacy fabrics.

Lurex

Lurex® is a trademark for the type of yarn with metallic appearance. The twine is most commonly a synthetic fiber with vaporized an aluminum layer onto it.

Lycra

A trademark of the spandex fiber owned and produced by DuPont. It is lightweight and soft, but stronger and more durable than rubber. It is often blended with other fabrics to produce a lightweight free of movement in apparel.

Marl

A term applied to a yarn or a fabric that is made up of more than one fiber. In blended yarns, two or more different types of staple fibers are twisted or spun together to form the yarn. A yarn is made of different colors of fibers that gives a multicolored effect.

Microfiber

Microfiber refers to synthetic fibers that measure less than one denier. Denier is used as the measure of density of weave in tights and pantyhose, which defines their opaqueness. A 1 denier fiber has a diameter of about 10 micrometers.

The most common types of microfibers are made from polyesters, polyamides (nylon), and or a conjugation of polyester and polyamide. Microfiber is used to make non-woven, woven and knitted textiles. The shape, size and combinations of synthetic fibers are selected for specific characteristics, including: softness, durability, absorption, wicking abilities, water repellency, electrodynamics, and filtering capabilities.

The fabrics made from these ultra-fine fibers provide a superior texture, a gentle drape and incredible softness. It is a man-made fiber that looks and feels good on the skin as it forms to the body’s shape.

Moisture Wicking

Moisture wicking fabrics draw moisture away from the skin. This is a great feature to look for in a sports bra.

Nylon

Nylon is a thermoplastic silky material, first used commercially in a nylon-bristled toothbrush in 1938, followed more famously by women's stockings, called later nylons in 1940. It is made of repeating units linked by peptide (amide) bonds and is frequently referred to as polyamide. Nylon was the first commercially successful synthetic polymer. Nylon was intended to be a synthetic replacement for silk and substituted for it in many different products after silk became scarce during World War II.

Olefin

Olefin is a synthetic fiber made from alkenes and used to produce various textiles, as well as clothing, upholstery, wallpaper, ropes, and vehicle interiors. Olefin is also referred to as polypropylene, polyethylene or polyolefin. Olefin's advantages are its strength, colorfastness and comfort, stain, mildew, abrasion and sunlight resistance, and good bulk and cover.

Opaque

Opaque means that the body cannot be seen through the garment. Opposite to sheer.

Panne

Panne is a shiny velvet-like fabric that has been flattened to achieve a desired design and elegant look. Velvet is the foundation for the production process of panne fabric, using silk, rayon or other fibers. The effect of brushed velvet is obtained by applying the technique by combing first then rolling. The rollers compress the pile in one direction. As the result, when the fabric moves, some of the fibers shift to provide a shimmering quality. The material is heavy enough to flow smoothly down and protect against the cool, but light enough to move easily while walking.

Pique

A medium-weight fabric, either knit or woven, with raised dobby designs including cords, wales, waffles, or patterns. Woven versions have cords running lengthwise, or in the warp direction. Knitted versions are double-knit fabric constructions, created on multi-feed circular knitting machines.

Polyamide

The basic fiber-forming substance for nylon. It’s a generic designation for a family of synthetic polymers known mainly as polyamides and first produced in 1935 by DuPont. Nylon is one of the most commonly used polymers.

Polyester

Polyester has high strength (although somewhat lower than nylon), excellent resiliency, and high abrasion resistance. Low absorbency allows the fabric to dry quickly. It belongs to the category of polymers. The name is of both a fabric and a fiber.

Polyester fabrics are claimed to have a "less natural" feel when compared to similarly-woven fabrics made from natural fibers i.e. cotton. However, polyester fabrics may exhibit other advantages over natural fabrics, such as improved wrinkle resistance. As a result, polyester fibers are sometimes spun together with natural fibers to produce a cloth with blended properties. Due to its ability to stretch and resist wrinkling is well-liked fabric for lingerie.

Natural polyesters and a few synthetic ones are biodegradable, but most synthetic polyesters are not.

Rayon

Rayon is a manufactured regenerated cellulose fiber. Because it is produced from naturally occurring polymers, it is neither a truly synthetic fiber nor a natural fiber, it is a semi-synthetic fiber. Rayon is also known by the names viscose rayon and art silk.

Silk-like fabric, but less expensive than silk, it usually has a high luster quality giving it a bright shine. Does not trap heat against the body, and absorbs moisture. It is a comfortable fabric against skin, making it desired for lingerie.

Satin

A smooth fabric made of silk, nylon, rayon or similar material that is closely woven to give a smooth glossy surface and a dull back. It is a warp-dominated weaving technique that forms a minimum number of interlacings in a fabric. If a fabric is formed with a satin weave using filament fibers such as silk, nylon or polyester, the corresponding fabric is termed a "satin". If the yarns used are short-staple yarns such as cotton, the fabric formed is considered a sateen.

A satin-woven fabric tends to have a high luster due to the high number of "floats" on the fabric. Floats are "missed" interlacings, where the warp yarn lies on top of the weft yarn, or vice versa. The floats tend to make the fabric look glossier as well as give it a smoother surface.

Sateen

Sateen is a cotton fabric with a satin-like finish, often found in bed sheets. Sateen is usually made of cotton, or sometimes rayon. Better qualities are mercerized to give a higher sheen. Some are only calendered to produce the sheen but this disappears with washing and is not considered genuine sateen. Sateen may be bleached, dyed or printed. It is difficult to make good bound buttonholes on it as it has a tendency to slip at the seams.

Sateen produces the sheen and softer feel through the use of a different structure in the weaving process. The sateen structure is four over, one under, placing the most threads on the surface, making it extremely soft, though slightly less durable than other weaves. Standard, non-sateen, weaves use a one over, one under structure. Satin also uses this structure, however, instead of using cotton, different materials are used (e.g., silk, polyester, etc).

Scallop

A decorative border on fabric or lace made up of a series or half circles as a decoration at necklines and hemlines.

Silk

Silk is a natural protein fiber. The best-known type of silk is obtained from cocoons made by the larvae of the mulberry silkworm. The shimmering appearance of silk is due to the triangular prism-like structure of the silk fiber which allows silk cloth to refract incoming light at different angles thus producing different colors.

Wild silks are produced by caterpillars other than the mulberry silkworm and can be artificially cultivated. They differ from the domesticated varieties in color and texture, and cocoons gathered in the wild usually have been damaged by the emerging moth before the cocoons are gathered, so the silk thread that makes up the cocoon has been torn into shorter lengths. Commercially reared silkworm pupae are killed by dipping them in boiling water before the adult moths emerge, or by piercing them with a needle, allowing the whole cocoon to be unraveled as one continuous thread. This permits a much stronger cloth to be woven from the silk. Wild silks also tend to be more difficult to dye than silk from the cultivated silkworm.

Sheer

Thin, fine and transparent. Opposite to opaque.

Shirring

A decorative effect created by material being gathered into lines.

Spandex

Spandex or elastane is a synthetic fiber known for its exceptional elasticity. It is stronger and more durable than rubber, its major non-synthetic competitor. It was invented in 1959 by DuPont. Spandex is a generic name that came from an anagram of the word expands. Name spandex is preferred in North America; elsewhere else is used elastane.

The most famous brand name associated with spandex is Lycra, a trademark of Invista (formerly part of DuPont). Lycra brand has become a world trademark. It’s used to describe any kind of spandex. With the same attributes as Lycra, but not registered, spandex is often blended with other fabrics to give stretch and softness to a garment.

Tricot

Tricot is a plain warp-knit fabric that can be created with an array of fibers and fiber blends. It can be manufactured with the use of cotton, wool, silk, rayon, or nylon, or any combination of fibers. One side features fine ribs running in a lengthwise pattern, while the other side features ribs that run in a crosswise direction. Bikini

Bikinis offer full or medium front and back coverage while the sides rest high on the hips or waist. A little more revealing than briefs, but less than thongs. Usually with a high-cut leg line and a waistline that falls below the belly button and rest on the hips. The sides can be anything from a string to a thicker side panel.

Skimpier styles have narrow sides, including V-cut (in front), French cut (high-cut sides) and low-cut string (string sides). String bikinis provide considerably less coverage than an average bikini.

Known for it's youthful look and styling, and surprisingly, bikini can be more flattering on a woman with a tummy.

Boy Leg Panty

Alike hot pants, boy leg panties have full back and side coverage, the waist sits low on the hips and legs come to the top of the thigh. Low-waisted boylegs usually seamed in the center front and back for definition, offer comfort and give a smooth line from waist to hips.

Boyshorts

Boyshorts provide full and comfortable coverage in a modern silhouette with lower leg cut, so an inseam is usually around 1/2" to 1" long. Sometimes called also a culotte, shorts or hot pant, it’s a cross between low-rise panties, French Knickers and tap pants.

As they provide more coverage than bikini, so they tend to stay in place better and not bunch up. Many women declare that this panty style eliminates panty lines under tight-fitting clothing. Perfect everyday alternative. Boyshorts definitely continues to grow in popularity.

Boy Thong Panty

Boythong panty, called also thongboy is a part boyleg and part thong that provides more coverage in the back and along the sides, while the cheeks peek out the bottom and quickly reduces to a thong style when going through the crotch. Visualize thongboy as a low-rise boyshort with a thong back panel.

It’s a flattering variation on the traditional thong that offers great comfort combined with a fabulous fit.

Brazilian Panty

Brazilian panties cover more of the cheeks than thongs, but less than full-back panties. Made of stretch lace with full coverage on side and back and a low rise fit. The ultimate in sexy coverage. Not recommended to be worn under thin wear as VPL is essential.

Brief

A traditional to-the-waist panty with full back and side coverage, sometimes may have high-cut legs. Waistband rests at or just below the belly button. Their conservative cuts make them called sometimes "granny pants". Ideal for those seeking max coverage.

Culottes

A wide-leg version of a boyshort. Also called a tap pant.

Control Briefs (Shapewear)

A brief panty designed for tummy-tucking and/or butt-lifting that give total support and absolute comfort while providing a smooth silhouette.

French-cut

French cut panties are also called high-cut brief. The leg opening extends a bit higher than normal.

French Knickers

French Knickers, also known as Tap Pants, are shorts with wider sides and less fabric to cover the bottom of the cheeks, usually made of lace, silk or satin. They cover the hip, part of the upper thigh and part of the buttocks, and are denominated by the 'open leg' style, or loose fitting leg for more comfortable fit. They look like boyshorts except they do not have elasticated leg cuffs.

They are not to be confused with hipsters or briefs or bikini bottoms, all of which feature elasticated leg openings and much snugger fit to the body.

G-String

An ultra minimal coverage panty with string sides and up the back. G-strings reveal more than thongs, though some manufacturers use the terms interchangeably. Called also a T-string due to the shape of the strings at the back, they eliminate panty lines. Extremely sexy.

Hi-Cut Brief

A moderate to full coverage panty with a very high-cut on the leg and sides. Also known as a French cut brief. Some women find that hi-cut briefs offer a bit of tummy structure.

Hipster

A mid coverage panty, pretty low rise combination of bikini and a brief. They rests lower on the hip than briefs, the rise is shorter, so the waistline of the hipster is well below the belly button.

Hipsters are a modern and comfortable take on the classic brief and are less bulky than boyshorts. It’s a perfect solution for wearing under low cut jeans, as invisible under mid-rise pants.

Low Rise

Low rise panty is a style that sits low on the hips for an invisible look when worn under low rise jeans. With a rise that is the measurement between the waistband and the first horizontal seam, of 6 inches or less, refers to a hipster or boyshort style.

Low Rise Brief

Low rise brief style has turned to be quite popular. The waistband rests on the hip approximately 3" below the waist. Side fabric and the legs are traditional brief legs (not high cut). Can also be called a hipster brief.

String bikini

String bikinis are bikini panties with waistband that rests below the navel and on the hips, high-cut legs, string sides and full back coverage. String bikinis are seamless or constructed of smooth fabrics like microfiber and mesh.

Tanga

A moderate to little coverage European panty line with back coverage that is more than a thong but narrower than a bikini. Very close to Brazilian back panties, but with wider sides. Made of soft lace tangas are tremendously comfortable and cuddle woman’s curves giving the excellent look and feel.

Tap pants

Tap pants, also called French Knickers, are shorts that have loose fitting legs and rides higher on the sides. Highly feminine and flattering, usually made of lace, silk or satin are sweet and playful.

Thong

Thongs leave the buttocks exposed preventing visible panty lines. They have a favored panty silhouette with a triangle shaped front panel, thin side panels and minimal coverage in a back that cover the loins not the buttocks for a no-show look underneath clothes. Provide slightly more side and back coverage than the G-strings. Very comfortable. Ideal for those seeking a smooth seamless outline.

Here I'll try to clarify all perplexing phrases with reference to brassiere.

Back Wings

Back wings are the strips of fabric that extend from the cups and secure in the back. Important features of the back wings are: stretch or inflexible, the measurement at the widest point, which is usually at the base of the cups, measurement at the closure, and type of fastening including number of hooks and eyes.

Balconette Bra

Balconettes showing little to no coverage as a more revealing version of a demi bra create striking uplift and cleavage, may have push-up pads also. The middle of the bra is slightly different in design to the half cup and appears to be more of a horizontal line going across the top of the breasts and the chest below that adds a sexier look. Thanks to the special construction (properly profiled cups and use of silicone tapes) the style can be worn as strapless.

Bandeau

Bandeau is strapless bra with no underwire. It provides no support and is recommended only for the smallest cup sizes.
Basque

A basque is also known as a torsolette. The term of French origin can mean a long-line cupped bra extending to the hips with garter hooks attached along the lower edge characterized by a close, contoured fit and extending past the waistline over the hips. Probably so called because this fashion of dress came from the Basques, and adopted by the French and then the English. Basque may also refer to details reminiscent of lingerie such as frilly lace and cut out designs.

Bodysuit

Bodysuit, also called body is a comfortable and flexible one piece form-fitting garment covering the torso, usually with snaps at the crotch. Designed to help flatten out tummies and smooth out the curves they come with thong or brief backs. Some bodysuits have fitted cups with underwires to lift the bust.

Unlike the similar leotard, a bodysuit is not a form of athletic wear. Sheer or stretch bodysuit will flatter any woman's figure and give a lovely line, as well as sexy look.

Boning

It was once made from actual bone, hence the term boning. Today, boning is made of plastic strips that are drawn through slots in the material giving structure, support and body contouring, and preventing wrinkling of the fabric.

Bralette

A bralette, called also bralet is a form fitting unlined bra with soft cups that resembles a crop top. Bralettes provide great comfort, but no support, as they don’t have underwire.

Bustier

A bra with fitted sides that extends from bust down the waist to provide an hourglass look with more control. There are many different designs of bustier, with cups or without, may have padded cups, or not. Either with or without, removable or convertible straps and garters, which make the bustier more versatile. Flexible boning throughout the body of the garment and the back with a long row of hooks and eyes make them stylish, sexy and comfortable, as they provide both shaping and uplift.

Usually made from good quality materials that are both durable and fashionable may have sexy looking or more practical looking. Sexy bustiers can be worn as either evening wear or as lingerie with almost any outfit, often with garters and stockings.

Bustiers gained popularity in the 1980's as outwear and evening attire.

Center Gore

The center gore or center panel is the piece of fabric that connects the cups together at the front. The size of this center piece determines a bra style. A supportive bra will have a center gore that comes up to the nipple line. A thinner center gore makes low or plunging necklines.

Contour Bra

A contour bra has padded or lined shaped cups with an underwire. Even unfilled the cups mimic and hold the natural shape of a woman's breasts. Contour bras provide a youthful, smooth, round and symmetrical breast shape, sculpted silhouette and outstanding support. They add definition and smoothness to the bustline and prevent nipples from show-through, as well as yield the extra benefit of balancing the appearance of uneven breasts and in-between bra sizes.

Cookies

Cookies are removable pads, the padded inserts in the cup of a bra. Usually made of fiberfill, but can also be made with silicone, water, oil or a gel.

Cookies help to change the shape of the breast and are generally used in push-up bras designed to create dramatic, yet adjustable enhancement. They also help when there is a difference between the breasts size.

Convertible Bra

A convertible bra has moveable and often removable straps that detach and can be worn in a variety of configurations: conventional, halter, one-shoulder, off-the-shoulder, crisscrossed, and strapless. Convertible bras are a flexible option since they can be worn with a variety of tops, including boat neck, halter and asymmetrical necklines.

Corset

A woman's support foundation garment which is stiffened, usually with flexible boning throughout the body of the garment for additional shaping, close fitting, possibly elasticized, and almost always laced or closed with a long row of hooks and eyes. It’s form fitted, highly structured support apparel that begins either above or just below the bust and extends down to the waist or below the hips, usually strapless. Similar to the bustier, but longer and usually pulled tight to the body for an hourglass look.

Designed to minimize a waist and maximize busts providing great lift and support. A corset supports the breasts from underneath and usually pushes them up and over the neckline edge. Some are designed to be worn to cover the bust and others are designed to sit under the bust line all are made to accentuate the bustline. May have attachments at the bottom to hold up the stockings.

Corsets are the lingerie seniors, but greatest and becoming more and more popular. There is a immense variety of designs, styles, fabrics to suit all occasions and outfits. They are not just underwear, they may be outerwear and may also have extras like faux fur, feathers and lace added to them for the unique look.

Demi Cup Bra

A demi cup, called also a demi or half cup bra provides less coverage than a full cup, but more than a balconette with contoured underwire, an open neckline, wide-set shoulder straps and cut-away cups. The half cup bra gives three quarters of coverage of the breasts and luscious look. They cover the nipple, but expose the upper part of the breasts, giving the look of more cleavage and at the same time phenomenal support. Thanks to the special construction (properly profiled cups and use of silicone tapes) the style can be worn as strapless.

This style is one of the sexiest ways to ensure comfort and support under low-cut necklines, but don’t let it seem like you’re “spilling out” your demi cup. In that case it's probably the wrong size. A demi cup bras offer the perfect amount of “barely there” coverage for petite to average figure women, while still being very fashionable and youthful. They are ideal to wear with low front cut tops and dresses.

Encapsulation

This term is essentially used in defining the construction of a sports bra. The cup construction in a sport bra with an encapsulation design surrounds the breast for support while giving them a shape and not forming an uni-boob look.

Full Figure Bra

Full figure bras provide tremendous comfort and support designed specifically for voluptuous women. A full cup bras cover most of the breast and do not cause creases or indentations along the top of the breast if fitted properly. Ideal for larger busts and pregnant women as less support can lead to sagging of the breasts and back pains. They keep the shape and fullness of the bountiful breasts, yet can be very stylish and sexy looking.

Gel Bras

Bras with usually irremovable gel inserts that make your breasts look bigger, give them a natural shape and are absolutely comfortable.

Half Contour Bra

Half contour full cup bra is perfect for voluptuous busts. The bottom half part of the cup is lined with soft padding or foam that firmly support breasts and beautifully feature them. The underwire and supportive boning lift the breasts up, gather them together and hold them up. Depends on the construction may have additional side supports helping to keep breasts at the center drawing attention to the appealing cleavage. Top part of the cup is made of lace or smooth fabric, e.g. microfiber.

Half contour full-figured bras providing more coverage, additional clasps and more fabric coverage under the arms, often include wider straps stitched to form a curve in the back and sometimes padded for extra comfort.

Designed for sizes 32C and upwards full cup bras give bountiful breasts a natural shape and are absolutely comfortable.

Inner Sling

Inner slings are curved strips of fabric that follow the natural curve of the bottom of the bra cup. As a support element they provide similar function as underwire, offering invisible additional support.

Minimizer

Minimizers tends to be for larger cup sizes over DD, since they are designed to make the breasts look smaller than normal. A minimizer bra reduces the appearance of the bust by up to one cup size. Cup design softly flattens the tissue and moves it to the sides under the arms, towards the center cleavage, up the chest and down towards the waist. Minimizers help to prevent “spilling over” and “gaping button” syndrome in shirts and blouses. These bras can be worn with day and evening wear and can give a smoother look around the bust area under clothing.

Molded Bra

Molded bra cups are shaped by a heat-machine process that mirror the natural breast shape. They do not have any cup padding and are generally not highly structured. Molded bras can be made of single layer of fabric or by heat fused with a thin layer of foam or fiberfill to provide a stiffer, non-collapsing cup shape. They may be either soft cup or underwired and are invisible under close fitting t-shirts and form fitting tops.

Since molded bra cups are permanently shaped, they may not be the right bra for everyone. The cups tend to be rigid and may not encase the breasts properly. In that case seamless bras may be alternative.

Plunge

Plunge bras designed to reveal more cleavage due to their deep (plunging) front silhouette, angled cups and thin center gore. Plunge bras differ from push-up bras as they are not so heavily padded.

Push Up

Pushup bras give the appearance of a larger breast size and more cleavage. Designed to lift the breasts and push them up, more to the center of the chest and to make them look more round, fuller and firm. Push-up bras create more cleavage for lower necklines using angled cups, underwire and variety of padding at the bottom portion of the cup. The filling, if removable, is known as cookies and is placed in the specially made, invisible pockets. Recently manufacturers use also silicone cushions for better adjustment to the body.

Push ups correct the imperfections of the woman’s silhouette. While some give a subtle illusion of a lift, other pushup bras can provide more sensational effects.

Seamless

Seamless bras are constructed without seamed cups. There may be seams in other parts of the bra, but a single piece of fabric is used for the cups and there's no stitching on the cups, giving a smooth, natural, bra-less look, nice for wearing under close fitting tops.

Soft Cup

Soft cup bras do not have underwires. They may be padded or lined, may have lightly molded or fabric shaped cups. The lack of firm cups make them quite comfortable, but not elegant. The style has quite simple construction with no boning or extra support. Recommended for women with no heavy bust, due to the fact that this bra is not able to support full breasts and may cause disfiguration over the period of time.

Sports Bra

Sports bras are specifically designed to eliminate as much bounce as possible and give great support for the bust during exercising. It helps to keep your breasts in place while you’re being active. Whether you are doing aerobics, tennis, running or horse ridding sports bras help a lot to take the strain off the breast and chest muscles thanks to wider straps, broader cup coverage, additional clasps and stronger fabrications to contain the breasts. The lined cups are high at the front and sides for support, and they have a comfort under band with non-curl elastic to stop it from riding up. Most have a racer back for further support. Some styles do use hook and eye closures.

Sports bras vary in many ways depending on how active you are and what kind of sport you do. A lot of sports bras have a range of different supports for low impact sports up to high impact for more strenuous and active sports.

Wearing a sports bra will help prevent damage to the breast tissue that results from exercise movement that breaks down the ligaments and causes permanent sagging of the breasts. Women really should have a variety of sports bras if they do more than one sports activity.

Strapless Bra

Strapless bras are especially important for special occasions to be invisible under the evening attire and those warm summer months when tube tops and strapless sun dresses are irresistible.

Designed to stay up without straps due to a wider band, supportive boning, silicone strips along the inside to prevent slippage and underwires for more support.

A strapless bra without underwires is called a bandeau. It offers no support and is recommended only for the smallest cup sizes.

Support Panel

A support panel, also known as inner sling is a rigid fabric insertion sewn inside bra cups to provide additional support. Works similar to underwire following the natural curve of the bra. An inner sling can go around the entire breast or just be panels on the sides or bottoms of the bra cup. Some support panels can be sewn outside the cup or incorporated into the cup design as an added panel.

Triangle

A triangle bra has triangle shaped cups that offer the perfect amount of coverage, but not much support, so they are great for petite to average figures. Triangle bras may be padded or lined but generally do not have underwire. Most of them have thin straps, center gore and back wings.

T-Shirt Bra

Invisible under even the thinnest fabrics t-shirt bras are seamless, contoured, typically made of microfiber and create an ultra smooth look.

Unlined Bra

Unlined full figure bras are extremely supportive and tremendously comfortable if properly fitted. Constructed with underwires and supportive side boning for larger sizes that sometimes transform into straps hold breasts together at the center of the chest. Breasts will never stride on the sides. Due to detailed vertical or slanted cut of the cup the bust is lifted up, gathered steadily together and held naturally up. The bottom part of the cup is lined with double layer of fabric, as tulle or made of the stronger material.

Designed primarily for bountiful women unlined full busted bras are ultra-elegant, delicate and fit ideally, giving more coverage, elegantly forming breasts and drawing attention to the captivating cleavage.

Underwire

Underwires are rigid insertions at the base of bra cups used for support, structure, and an graceful breast appearance. A thin, u-shaped wire offers an added support to the bra cups, bustiers, bodysuits and corsets. The underwire can be a flexible wire, a plastic coated piece of metal, or a molded plastic shape. Our bras are constructed with comfortable underwires and if fitted properly, they don't poke!

Underwire bras

Underwire bras with sewn into the fabric u-shaped wiring that runs underneath the breast in each bra cup to lift and support the breasts. This support attribute helps to lift, separate and shore up the bustline for better shape, extra support and help to reduce any sagging, especially for full-figured women. An underwire bra featuring cups with encircling support panels or slings is recommended for any woman with cup sizes DD and up.

All bras designed to give a particular shaping to the breast (push up bras, demi bras, strapless bras, etc.) include an underwire. They come in various different styles, designs and fit, and can be either plain looking or elegantly seductive. Some styles can give a seductive plunge look to the breasts. May be worn as everyday bra as well as with evening attire.

A Correctly Fitting Bra Has The Following...

When viewed from the side, the under-band should be horizontal, should not ride up the back and should be firm but comfortable
The underwires at the front should lie flat against the sternum (not the breast) along the infra-mammary fold and should not dig in to the chest or the breasts, rub or poke out at the front
The breasts should be enclosed by the cups and there should be a smooth line where the fabric at the top of the cup ends
There should not be a ridge or any bulging over the top or sides of the cups, even with a low-cut style such as the balconette bra

Fit Check

Bra fits smoothly
Cups completely include breasts, except of pushups and demi bras
No spillage or digging
No gaps and puckering
Bra is snugged, but not too tight around the body
Band does not ride up on the back
The center of the bra lies flat against the breastbone
Straps are adjusted with no pressure or cutting
Bra feels very comfortable, no matter if you stand, sit, bend or jump

If it feels uncomfortable when you try the bra on, remember it won't change afterwards.

It takes time and patience to find a right bra.

The same bra may one fit perfectly and be completely inappropriate for someone else.

Place your bosom in the cups gathering them from under your arms, not from the underneath them
Bend at the waist before fastening your bra and adjust your breasts to include them completely within the cups. Nipples should be at the fullest point of the cup. This automatically centers your bust and distributes the volume evenly
Stand up and adjust the straps to position breasts are at the right level, pull down the back
Lift your arms up after securing your bra band, make sure you are not falling out from the cup
Fix minor puckering, small wrinkles or folds in the cups

Position Of Your Breasts

Bra should keep your breast steady
The perfect position for breasts is midway between shoulders and elbows, bustline must be centered
Bra must be proportionate to the frame

Bra Band

Bra band should lie around rib cage evenly front to back
Make sure that the band is perfectly horizontal on your body
Your finger should fit comfortably under the front of the bra
Pick a size that fits you closely. Fasten your bra on the first - loosest or middle hook, if 3 hooks. You'll be able to tighten the bra over time as the material stretches out
When band creeps up on shoulder blades it causes your breasts to droop
Don’t secure your bra band too high on the back, it causes the band to ride up and the cup to fall forward
If the bandwidth is too tight your bra will leave red marks on your body and possibly create unsightly back bulges - get larger band size
If the bandwidth is too loose the bra will not provide you with enough support and rides up on the back - try smaller band size
The strap around your body should feel comfortable but firm, giving support but not restricting your breathing!

Straps

Straps should neither fall down nor dig into your shoulders
Straps provide only 10% of your support, the rest 90% comes from the band
Too loose straps cause the band to ride up your back
Shoulder straps need to be tight enough to offer support but should not rub or dig
Adjust your straps to get comfortable support without pressure or cutting
Fit your finger under snug straps

Cups

The cup size is too small

if there is an overflow from the top and/or your breasts are coming out of the sides of the bra
when the underwire is cutting into the breasts instead of around them
try a larger cup size or a different style

The cup size is too big

if there are any gaps or puckering
if there are any excess fabric wrinkling in the front
if there's a major gap between bra and body
try a smaller cup size or a different style

Your breast should be well supported without bulges or gaps between the cup and your skin
Cups must have no spillage or gapping
Having the right cup size gives you a marvelous shape and great support

Underwire

The underwires should not dig in or create sore areas anywhere
They should lie flat against the ribcage without you knowing they are there
Underwire should surround and support breasts, not poke into them!
If wires are digging in under your arms or pull away from the body in the center, it usually means that the cup size is too small

Argentine beauty Solange Magnano lost her life after cosmetic gluteoplasty surgery complications. This seemed to be an easy operation to improve her look.

The termed gluteoplasty procedure involves the insertion of liquid implants that smoothes and firms up the buttocks. The operation turned out to be deadly as the liquid leaked from the implants and infected her lungs and brain. 38 year old former Miss Argentina '94 past from a pulmonary embolism last Sunday after three days in critical condition. She left 7-year-old twins. Model and the owner of the modeling agency gave the ultimate sacrifice for her appearance.

Argentine fashion designer and a friend of the model Roberto Piazza said that she was perfect, amazing and did not need any surgery. She took good care of herself, attended gym regularly, had ideal measurements and divine little waist. She was a woman who had everything, but lost her life to have a slightly firmer behind.

"We will miss you, Sol,", "You couldn't be any more beautiful than you already were" fans posted on Facebook.

This shocking death should be a warning for many girls and guys to reconsider the "need" of such invasive procedure. Absurdly most of the people who decide to get under the scalpel usually look flawless.

Dramatic search for a bra - my story

Some time ago I met the lady who said "I don't wear bras, they are uncomfortable and since I wear jeans it's hard to find panties that don't show lines underneath, so I don't wear panties either".

That could be shocking for some ladies, but in many cases and especially in United States it's true. Hard to believe that some women don't know the bra or panty styles. They have no idea what is unlined, contour or push up bra. They assume there is one type of panties: briefs...

We have the strongest economy, we are leaders in technology and business, cost of living comparing to Europe is relatively low, food is cheaper to buy then to make and there is so little places to buy good lingerie, read underwear. By "good" I mean bras that fit right (with no spilling or gaps, giving the natural look and shape), supportive and comfortable.

When I came to USA for the first time few years ago American Airlines lost my luggage. Since I've just started my vacation at that time I spent hours and days to partially replace my suitcase (more money to spend and actually less time to enjoy the trip). The worse nightmare was to find bras, not even mention corsets (since it's not the first need product), carefully picked before the journey. The "nice" lady at AA customer service told me to go to Walmart !!!???

I was shocked, surprised and disappointed in the lack of regular lingerie boutiques, while in Europe there is so many of them. They are located in shopping malls, little shopping centers, by the more and/or less busy streets, in the cities, towns and sometimes in villages. In little Poland, size probably of State of California there is over 1500 stores with underwear and swimwear. I've found a little bit higher number of decent stores (no sex shops), including luxury boutiques in all 50 States though...

I tried to find similar stores here and it still doesn't look good. We can purchase lingerie in departments stores, such Macy's, Nordstrom, Bloomingdale's, Dillard's with the narrow brand selection of strong and established, but not always the best lingerie manufacturers. The latest worldwide cost cuts made most of these products low-quality with cheaply looking fabrics or poorly stitched, check some of the Victoria's Secret pieces. The big buyers are very picky and they are usually looking for the same type of lingerie. Boring one-color items (white, black or nude), seamless, with no fancy laces or "fashionable", but with the same look and style, like there is no other design, patterns, colors, fabrics, etc. In addition the enormous requirements and harsh terms may kill the young or small supplier.

I tried ca. 300 bras on only to pick 2 maybes that I probably still have in my closet mildly worn. While seeking I soon stopped paying attention to the fashion, colors and quality, to find something that fits and hold my C/D cup. Each manufacturer has a somewhat different method of sizing, so even if you know your correct size always check the size chart for particular brand to make sure and try it on.

It's hard to find a tasteful store with nice selection of well made bras, the place you can try you bra on and have an appropriate support from salesperson or professional fitter. Nevertheless there are some. If you are looking for some don't hesitate to let me know and I will try to help you find nice lingerie store in your area.

There are numerous online stores. The disadvantage is we don't really know the fit, unless we know the brand, the line should keep consistent sizing and we are sure that this particular style works best for us. The rest is always guessing, but it does not mean you cannot find your perfect bra that way. In many cases, due to the sanitary reasons and hygienic requirements we are unable to return the purchase, that sucks...

When purchasing lingerie our choices are usually based on newest trends or that great look on the other women. However for bra or panties to do their job, they have not only to look good, but also support, be comfortable and be suited for the figure. Otherwise instead of enhancing body assets, our silhouette becomes disproportional and unattractive, not mention the comfort that will be far from fine.

The look, the shape, the position and even the firmness (as a consequence in a period of time) of our breasts depend mostly on the right bra.

Women breasts are formed mostly of fatty tissue that gives the breasts the softness and delicate smooth outline. The connective tissue in the breasts that helps maintain structural integrity, support the breast in its normal position and maintain its shape are very thin and delicate ligaments, called also Cooper's ligaments. Two main proteins of connective tissue is collagen and elastin.

As collagen with very high resistance to stretching controls the elasticity of skin, the lack of it results in wrinkles. Elastin helps the body tissues to resume their shape after stretching or contracting. It helps skin to return to its original position when it is poked or pinched.

Since breasts are not supported by muscles it's very easy to make the skin stretched, therefore breasts loose their firmness and rounded shape. Women breasts are naturally sinking as aging due to the lengthening of the ligaments and loosing elasticity by the skin.

To protect your breasts it is crucial to wear properly fitted bra, that should provide not only comfort, but also helps our health.

Wearing a suitable bra helps to decrease stretching of the skin and ligaments and then prevents from bust sagging. Underwear should be nearly invisible (no digging, no poking, no spilling, no bulges or gaps between the cup and your skin, no wrinkles or puckering, no rolling) and may not limit our moves. Wearing the wrong bra may damage and speed up aging of your breast. From 85% of all women wearing the wrong bra 70% feel the pain not only the of breasts, but also of a spine. But the wrong bra means not only discomfort. It is to a large extend permanent deformity of our breasts.

October - Polish American Heritage Month

October has been traditionally celebrated as Polish American Heritage Month.

Polish translation is "Miesiąc Dziedzictwa Polskiego".

It's a National Celebration of Polish History, Culture and Pride.

In Cooperation with the Polish American Congress and Polonia across America.

The main point of Polish American Heritage Month is to highlight the contributions Poles and Polonians have made to America and the world as a whole, celebrate various facets of our cultural heritage and share its beauty with the community at large.

Polish American Heritage Month was first celebrated in 1981 in Pennsylvania.

This year Polish Americans mark the 399th anniversary of the arrival of the first Polish settlers in America at Jamestown, Virginia in 1608. This October Heritage Month theme is "Tracing Your Heritage" in preparation for next year's 400th anniversary of the settlers' arrival.

A Polish American (Polish: Amerykanin polskiego pochodzenia), is a citizen of the United States of Polish descent. There are an estimated 10 million such Polish Americans, representing about 3% of the population of the United States.

Things to do during Polish American Heritage Month

Community Wide

1. Meet with your local Polish American organizations to discuss a successful, well-coordinated Polish American Heritage Month event.

2. Request local elected officials to present a proclamation or special greetings to the Polish American community.

3. Offer a Mass at your local church for the intention of your area Polish American community and invite everyone to attend. Following the Mass, hold a reception with Polish pastries and refreshments, welcoming all in the spirit of Polish hospitality.

4. Sponsor an event to honor noted men and women of Poland. During October we mark the death of American Revolutionary War Hero General Casimir Pulaski on October 15th. You can conduct a tribute ceremony in front of a portrait of Pulaski. You can also consider honoring people such as Ignacy Jan Paderewski, Fryderyk Chopin, Marie Sklodowska Curie and others.

5. Encourage people to display Polish and American flags and Polish American Heritage Month posters in their homes, organizational headquarters, banks, businesses, etc. Flags, posters and banners help bring attention to the fact that October is National Polish American Heritage Month and that Polonia is celebrating proudly. 6. Sponsor a lunch or dinner social with Polish food, music and entertainment.

Youth Activities

1. Organize an essay contest in your local schools. Complete information on sponsoring an essay contest is available from the Museum’s Internet site. You can award prizes during a school assembly or public event to encourage participation from parents and students alike. Ask local businesses and organizations to help sponsor the event and offer prizes. This is also a way to involve local teachers as judges of the essay contest.

2. Sponsor a coloring contest. Art work samples are available upon request from the national committee or you can download coloring forms from the Museum’s Internet site. The coloring contest remains very popular in schools.

Ask local art students to organize and judge the entries. Ask a local printer to reprint the artwork for your committee at no charge with the name of his business at the bottom as an advertisement.

3. Sponsor a children’s music or dance recital to highlight Polish music or dance in a local auditorium, school hall or recreation center. There are children's groups that would appreciate this type of exposure. It’s a great way to get people together for a positive event involving young people. Invite the general public to attend.

4. Sponsor a Polish poster art contest requesting area schools to highlight Polish history and culture through student art. Display their art works and sponsor an award ceremony.

Cultural Displays

1. Organize a display at your local shopping mall or library featuring Polish books, arts and crafts, wycinanki and paintings by Polish American artists. Contact local artists and request them to display their works at the local library, parish hall, organization hall, public or office building lobby.

Media Contact & General Advertising

1. Display Polish American Heritage Month posters. Sample posters are available from the National Committee, or they can be downloaded from the Heritage Month link on the Museum’s Internet site at: PolishAmericanCenter.org. You can reprint these posters and encourage local stores, banks, supermarkets, churches and organizations to display the posters throughout the month of October.

2. Contact your local newspapers, radio and TV stations to tell them about National Polish American Heritage Month and your local activities.

3. Ask local radio programs to mention your area Polish American events during October as part of their community bulletin board or public service announcements. (Every radio station is required to give time for public service announcements.) You can also ask your radio stations to play a few selections written by Polish composers over the centuries and recorded by internationally famous artists. This is a way for them to bring attention to Polish American Heritage Month and highlight Polish composers.

4. Ask local organizations, banks, businesses and elected leaders to place a "POLISH AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH SALUTE" advertisement in local newspapers or on local radio or TV programs. Placing these salutes each week during the month of October will remind everyone about POLISH AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH. (The National Committee has an artwork for the newspaper, radio and TV salutes available upon request.)

5. Ask area high school and college students of Polish descent to assist you with press releases, public service announcements and other activities. Often this is a way for younger students to get extra credit for school and will allow them to be part of the Polish American Heritage Month celebration. Possibly there are individuals in your community with children who could be called upon to assist you with publicity and other efforts.

1. Start your family tree and invite all the members of your family to get involved.

2. Review a map of Poland and learn more about the town or city of your ancestors.

3. Read a book on Polish history and share that information with family and friends.

4. Attend a Polish American event and invite others to attend with you.

5. Display a Polish and American flag, a red and white bow, or a Heritage Month poster in your home or place of business.

6. Learn more about Polish customs and share that information with others.

7. Join a Polish American organization and get involved in some way.

The first Poles in North America arrived in the Virginia Colony in 1608. Early Polish immigrants of note included Jacob Sodowski, Kazimierz Pułaski and Tadeusz Kościuszko, who were active in America around the time of the Revolutionary War. Overall, more than one million Poles immigrated to the United States, primarily during the late 19th and early 20th century. Exact immigration numbers are unknown. Due to the partitions of Poland, the Polish state did not exist at the time, when the precursor to the Immigration and Naturalization Service classified immigrants, according to country of origin, rather than to ethnicity. In particular, the three partitions gave rise to the terms Russian, German and Austrian Poles, as seen in the context of Polish immigration to the United States.

According to the 2000 United States Census, 667,414 Americans of age 5 years and older, reported Polish as the language spoken at home, which is about 1.4% of the census groups who speak a language other than English or 0.25% of the U.S. population.

The census is a count of everyone living in the United States every 10 years.

GENERAL PULASKI MEMORIAL DAY, 2009 OCTOBER 10

BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

A PROCLAMATION

Each year on this day, Americans pause to remember a patriot and champion of liberty who fought valiantly for the freedom of our Nation. During our struggle for independence, General Casimir Pulaski displayed heroic leadership and ultimately sacrificed his life in service to our country.

His commitment to liberty remains an inspiration to us today, 230 years later, and it serves as a reflection of the many contributions Polish Americans have made to our national identity.

Born in Poland in 1745, Brigadier General Casimir Pulaski witnessed the occupation of Poland by foreign troops during his youth. He joined the struggle for Polish independence in 1768, fighting alongside his father with unwavering determination.

Despite the tremendous courage of Pulaski and his compatriots, the foreign forces prevailed and Poland was divided among three of its neighbors. The young Casimir Pulaski was exiled, and, while in Paris, met America's envoy to France, Benjamin Franklin, and learned of our nascent quest for independence.

Arriving in America during the summer of 1777, General Pulaski quickly earned a commission and led his troops with admirable skill in a number of important campaigns. He would eventually become known as the "Father of the American Cavalry."

In 1779, Pulaski was mortally wounded during the siege of Savannah while trying to rally his troops under heavy enemy fire. Before laying down his life for the United States, this Polish and American hero had earned a reputation for his idealism and his courageous spirit.

Pulaski's ideals live on today in the many Polish-American communities across the country. These neighborhoods continue to celebrate Polish culture, while adding immeasurably to our national identity. Their contributions have expanded our collective knowledge, pushing the boundaries of science, business, and the arts. With each passing year, the cooperation between the United States and Poland grows, supported by the dedication and commitment of Polish Americans to our shared history. Today, as we remember General Pulaski, we celebrate our strong friendship with Poland, and honor those Americans of

Polish heritage.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim Sunday, October 11, 2009, as General Pulaski Memorial Day. I encourage all Americans to commemorate this occasion with appropriate programs and activities paying tribute to Casimir Pulaski and honoring all those who defend the freedom of our great Nation.

October is one of the most special and momentous of all the months.

With all the preparations to Halloween, like searching for costumes and house decorations, we are busy, creative and definitively spend lots of money.

Among our expenses are also donations and purchases toward a good cause.

Many of us contribute to fund breast cancer research, since October is also National and International Breast Cancer Awareness Month NBCAM, an annual international health campaign.

All breast cancer charities all over the world each October work together to

Halloween, our spooky annual national festivity is not patriotic, not historical, not associated with a particular religion, but enthusiastically celebrated. With its own set of highly recognizable symbols, rituals and stories Halloween weaves spirituality, death and religious beliefs into our present and historical imaginations.

Halloween has its roots in Celtic festival of Samhain "summer's end", the Christian holy day of All Saints’ Day and Catholic All Souls’ Day.

Samhain festival held at the end of the harvest season in Gaelic and Brythonic cultures has aspects of a festival of the dead.

All Saints’ Day, also called All Hallows or Hallowmas often shortened to All Saints, is a solemnity celebrated on November 1 in Western Christianity, and on the first Sunday after Pentecost ("the fiftieth day" in Ancient Greek - Pentecost is celebrated 7 weeks (49 days) after Easter Sunday) in Eastern Christianity in honor of all the saints, known and unknown.

All Souls’ Day commemorates the faithful departed. This day also known as the Feast of All Souls, Commemoration of all the Faithful Departed and Day of the Dead, is principally observed in the Catholic Church.

All Hallows’ Eve is also known as All Saints’ Day.

Halloween however is not celebrated in all countries and regions of the world, not at the same way, anyway. Yet observance in the United States has a significant influence on other nations’ celebrations.

Halloween, originally spelled Hallowe'en is celebrated on October 31.

Halloween activities:

The ancient Celts believed that on October 31st (Halloween) the boundary between the living and the deceased dissolved and the dead become dangerous for the living by causing problems such as sickness or damaged crops.

The festivals would frequently involve bonfires, into which the bones of slaughtered livestock were thrown.

Costumes and masks being worn at Halloween goes back to the Celtic traditions of attempting to copy the evil spirits or placate them, in Scotland for instance where the dead were impersonated by young men with masked, veiled or blackened faces, dressed in white.

Symbols

Believing that the head was the most powerful part of the body, containing the spirit and the knowledge, the Celts used the "head" of the vegetable to frighten off the embodiment of superstitions.

The name jack-o'-lantern can be traced back to the Irish legend of Stingy Jack, a greedy, gambling, hard-drinking and lazy yet shrewd old farmer. He tricked the devil a couple of times by using a cross to trap him. Stingy Jack made the Devil promise him not to take his soul when he died. When Jack finally died, he was rejected by Saint Peter to enter the gates of Heaven due to his cruelty and worthless life on earth. The Devil kept his promise and did not allow him to enter the Hell. Scared Jack had nowhere to go and was condemned to forever wander the earth in the darkness between heaven and hell. The only light he had once a year a candle inside of a hollowed turnip.

The carving of pumpkins is associated with Halloween in North America where pumpkins are both readily available and much larger - making them easier to carve than turnips.

What is Halloween without a Black Cat?

There is a Celtic belief that cats' eyes are windows through which human beings may explore an inner world.

This animal has power deeply to enrich our lives if, instead of obsessively loving or hating the cat, humans adopt a realistic attitude toward its paradoxical nature, and allow it to communicate its wisdom.

Trick-Or-Treating

Trick-or-treating, known also as guising is customary celebration for children on Halloween in which they proceed from house to house in costumes asking for treats such as candy or other healthy treats, with the question, "Trick or treat?", or the phrase "Happy Halloween! The word "trick" refers to a threat to perform mischief on the homeowners or their property if no treat is given.

In some parts of Scotland children still go guising. In this custom the child performs some sort of show, i.e. sings a song or tells a ghost story, in order to earn their treats.

Costumes

Halloween costumes are traditionally those of monsters such as ghosts, skeletons, vampires, witches, and devils. Costumes are also based on themes other than traditional horror, such as those of characters from TV shows, movies, and other productions.
