So after our first few weeks of homeschool my mommy brain was exhausted. It is hard to teach a first grader math while a preschooler asks what do I have to do next mom? Whats my schoolwork mom? Wheres my math mom? Wheres my notebook mom? Whats my spelling words mom? 92 24 89 3 10 0 6 81 55 38......? Is that right mom?

Ahhhh talk about overload. So out came our sensory bin materials!

Daddy Mommy Vacations are IMPORTANT!

So each year we have been blessed to be able to take a vacation just the two of us! It is much needed time to rest, relax, and fall in love all over again.

We have done different things each year one year we travelled to Milwaukee, WI. Another year we spent a few days in Wisconsin Dells in late fall with beautiful fall foliage!

Last year we ventured up to Copper Harbor, MI.

And this spring we headed off to Chicago's Magnificent Mile for a long weekend!

We visited a few sites, spent time walking and enjoying spring weather! Enjoying each others company. We visited the Museum of Science and Industry, The Willis Tower Sky Deck, and did a lot of shopping! We ran through a few raindrops and navigated our way through the "windy" city!

Most importantly for us we spent time talking to each other. On our past vacations we have adopted a few things from Jimmy and Karen from "Marriage Today"

We have read a lot of the books they have written on these special weekends together!

We also make it a point to listen to there podcasts on iTunes! They are AMAZING!

One of the take home points from there books is a "Vision Retreat" Where you take time to step back look at your lives and pray and ask God why did you put us together? What is your vision for us? What is your vision for our family? Coming together we work through any points of stress or arguments we may be dealing with but we come at it from the perspective of "what is God's plan?"

It is an AMAZING weekend.

The time that would be great anyways becomes even more precious to us because we are seeking GOd's will for us, for our children, and primarily for our marriage!

Each year we look forward to this time. I spend time praying for our vacation before we leave. To pray that God would guide our time together to mold and shape us into His children!

Spring Bucket List With Kids

So we are coming down with a bad case of spring fever around here. A very long record cold winter has kept us cooped up inside and we are ready for spring!

Here are a few spring bucket list or spring activities to do with the kids this year!

Jump on the Trampoline and take crazy hair pictures!

Who can find the most wildlife? Who is brave enough to get the closest?

Take a swing on the tree swing! Or make a tree swing like ours!

Go FROG hunting! Dont forget those puddle boots!

Make all different shapes of icicles and even put them in jello!

Go for a 4 wheeler ride!

Have an outside Princess Parade!

Make Slime

(2 parts elemers glue to 1 part liquid starch)

Give your tractor or bike a little shade! Make a Tractor Cab!

Find some beautiful flowers for a great picture

Have a bonfire!

Don't forget the marshmallows!

Roll out the butchers paper and some different toys for an interesting outside painting project!

Blow bubbles! Catch Bubbles! Chase Bubbles! Watch the dog chase bubbles!

Make a bird watching list, who can mark the most diverse list of birds?

Observe a frog!

Better yet observe 2 frogs and let them race down the driveway!

Go puddle jumping... Or if you still have lots of ice like us make a melted snow river through the ice, and watch your stick boats and leaves float down it! Who's leaf boat makes it down the river first?

Find a great waterfall!

Can you loose your boots in the mud? How deep is that mud really? Make a mudpie!

So my new kitchen led to a lot of extra old kitchen cabinets...!

So my excellent hubby created a new craft desk for me!

He put a few cabinets together, added some wheels, spray painted chalkboard pain on the back, and made a beautiful wood top!

It is the perfect craft desk... With lots of storage!

It is the perfect place to scrapbook, sew, or plan out our homeschool lessons!

Since we had a range of kids from 2-10 we had to find a way to make the games fair for everyone.

So each childs "PRIZE" or favor bag was marked with a number of tickets required for "purchase"

The number of tickets was the child's age multiplied by 3...So if you were 2 you needed 6 tickets for your prize and if you were 10 you would need 30!

A simple roll of carnival tickets from Amazon Prime was just what we needed!

In our house the memory verse changes every week...

And sometimes with busy schedules they are hard to keep track of?!

So we decided to make our own sign

I got my materials from Michaels but I am sure you can find these things at any hardware store

Chalkboard Spray Paint

White Spray Paint

Wood Cut to the size of the sign you want

Some pretty dainty trim

Picture Hangers for the back of the sign

Here is the paint I used:

First lay out your wood and spray paint all the pieces

Then depending on the size of your sign you may glue the pieces and use a few finishing nails!

Its really that easy!

Now our verse is easily visible and a great daily reminder of where our focus as a family belongs!

2 Year Old Bedroom Makeover

M2's room... We didn't have to paint this one! Yeaaahhhhh! I really do like to paint but I do NOT like painting every single room in the house in one swoop... So I was very happy that the colors in this room work great for M2's decor!

Our house has two dormers in the front and 2 dormers in the back. So each of the girls rooms have a dormer in the front and the back! I have to say I love dormers! They are so much fun!

We created a "reading room" in each girls bedroom in one of the dormers

Living Room Redo/ Makeover

The living room started out a very interesting color combo of terra cotta and peach...

Obviously not my favorite color!

First Night in our New House

So we closed on the house, painted, painted, painted, and painted some more. In order to get more things done the very first thing we did was set up the Crib and the Toddler Bed! So the kids could nap and sleep and we didn't have to be driving back and forth. So the first night the kids slept together in M2's room (M1's room was being painted) and we slept on just our mattress in the middle of the dining room floor... We had shampooed all the carpets and they weren't dry yet!

They were pretty excited to be back in there beds!

We woke up the next morning and ate yogurt from the cooler (since our fridge was still in storage) and sat on the porch listening to the rain!!

And then the moving began!!

Moved In!

We have been busy the last few months and I have not posted much but here are the highlights:

1. We sold our old house

2. Moved all of our worldly possesions into 2 EXTRA large storage unites

3. We moved into our camper since we didn't have a new house we wanted to buy yet

4. We found a new house!

5. We made 3 different offers and got into a bidding war on said new house...

6. We won the battle!

7. We went on a Marriage Vision Retreat, just Chris and I

8. We won the war and jumped through hoops, stood on our heads, tied our shoes backwards, and finally signed on the dotted line to purchase said house...!!!!

9. We moved 2 storage units, a camper, and 3 XL moving truck loads full of stuff to our new house!

10. We unpacked and now we are repacking to remodel the kitchen! LOL!

So... What have you been up to? Haha!

Anyways we are totally in love with our new house, the layout is perfect the neighborhood is quiet and great for the kids! The backyard is full of hiking, biking, and 4 wheeling trails! We finally have enough space again! The garage is big enough for many projects... (To Come)

What have I enjoyed so far:

Sitting on the front porch listening to the rain

Seeing the girls faces when there toys and possessions started coming out of boxes!

Decorating of course... Oh the possibilities are endless

New appliances, I still smile when I look at them (even the washer and dryer, although I am sure that will wear off soon.)

The New Zoo in Winter

So we had a really surprisingly fun outing at the New Zoo in Green Bay, WI

We were on a little mini family vacation and decided we wanted to see how the animals were up to in the wintertime! We have previously been to the New Zoo a few time in summertime and I would highly recommend it!

We have seen the Milwaukee Zoo, Sea World - Florida, Chicago Zoo, Cincinnati Zoo and a few others and we really love the New Zoo in Green Bay! It is smaller by far and you can easily spend a whole day here or you can spend a few hours and see the majority of it. We like get up early in the morning drive to green bay and then stop at the zoo and spend a few hours learning and visiting the animals! It gives the kids a few hours out of the car and gives them something to look forward to in an otherwise "kid boring" shopping trip....!

Anyways we have never been to the zoo in the winter! It is very much fun! It was a little snowy but there are some indoor exhibits where you can go and warm up, the animals were more interested in us then I believe i have ever seen zoo animal. I am just guessing here but since the zoo is not that busy I suppose they were enjoying a little entertainment watching us watch them.

M1 was most excited for.... The Peacocks!?? When we asked her what she wanted to see the most that is what she said so we spent a lot of time playing I spy a peacock! They find a lot of interesting hiding places in the winter!

Feeding teh goats in the petting zoo is always a big highlight and they both thought it was hilarious! So much fun to hear there little screeches of laughter when the goats would reach and push each other around for the food!

Probably my most favorite part is the giraffes. They have a nice indoor space where you can touch, pet, and feed them! There is a very kind zoo (volunteer? or employee?) there who is full of interesting facts and information about the giraffes! You can watch them interact with each other and play with some giraffe toys!

Overall its a lot of fun to see the animals playing in the snow from geese to buffalo to giraffes to the playful otter there are a lot of fun exhibits even in the winter! So if you're passing through Green Bay, WI I would definitely recommend stopping by the New Zoo it is just a few miles north of the city and a lot of fun!

Dolphin Birthday Party

M1 wanted dolphins this year! So for birthday number 4 we had dolphins. I believe this all started at her last birthday when we spent the day at Sea World then she decided that for her next party she was going to celebrate with dolphins!

So here is our planning:

Made from the Cake Boss's Recipe for Chocolate Cake

and Chocolate Frosting (Now to be very clear I DO NOT like cake AT ALL! I typically don't even try it but I tested this one out and OH MY! DELICIOUS is all I can say!)

The Cake recipe is linked above but to make note I did swap out the hot water for HOT COFFEE! Definitely was worth the change, no overwhelming coffee taste very subtle but not enough that the kids even noticed!

Covered in fondant and Airhead candy for decorations

gel frosting for water

Dolphins were made from fondant and covered in pearl dust

Gold fish Crackers

Sea Glass Candy

2 cups sugar

2/3 c light corn syrup

food coloring

flavoring

12 Tbsp water

Coat a METAL or SILICONE pan well with butter or crisco. Mix sugar corn syrup and water in large sauce pan heat and STIR CONSTANTLY until sugar is dissolved. Once dissolved put in candy thermometer and STOP stirring! Let it bubble and heat until about 250 degrees. Then you can add in your food coloring. It will mix itself in with the bubbling. At 300degrees remove from heat!!! And add about 1-2 tsp flavoring. STIR I used peppermint cause thats what I had on hand.

Now pour in GREASED pan. and Let harden. Once completely hardened and cooled hit with rubber mallet to break up. Mix with a little powdered sugar to prevent it from sticking together, and VOILA! DELICIOUS BEAUTIFUL SEA GLASS CANDY

We put up a large posterboard under our kitchen breakfast bar. We drew a simple under water scene and gave the kids stickers, coloring pages, markers, crayons, and foam stickers and let there imagination run wild! The finished picture is beautiful - they made boats and dolphins and sharks and rainbows and mermaids and even a submarine. The coloring pages they cut out and glued onto the paper!

This is before they really started coloring the finished project is beautiful!

M2 was dressed up in her new Doc McStuffins Dress up outfit over her pretty party dress!

For the dolphin hoop game the kids had a stuffed dolphin or whale in there favor bags. They threw the dolphin into the moving hoop. If you made it you go back in line if you miss you sit out! Pretty straight forward but lots of fun!

They also did a seashell hunt, before the party I hid seashells all over our family room area and they hunted them down. (As an after thought it would have been a good idea to give them some kind of bag to collect them in.... :(

I really enjoy planning parties for my kids. I am so thankful for the time I get to spend with them decorating and baking before hand! They are my little helpers! They love to be involved every step of the way! They helped to roll fondant, stir frosting, make cake, hand streamers, rip tape, eat frosting, eat frosting, eat frosting, Haha!

Such a great time for learning and playing together!

Monkey 1 and Monkey 2 both worked hard to clean up the house and do there chores the day before, and M1 kept telling me that I was making "HER" clean house dirty...! LOL

I am thankful for the friends and family that were able to attend the party! It was a memorable day!

Recipes

Pepperoncini Shredded Beef

2-3 lb beef roast (top sirloin is the best I think)

1 jar Pepperoncini Peppers

1 Can Beef Broth

Italian Seasoning

Put beef peppers broth and seasoning in crockpot and cook for 6-8 hours until done, Take out and shred. Put back in liquid and serve with cheese slices and rolls!

Homemade Mac and Cheese

1 box Shells or Elbow Macaroni Pasta

2 cups Shredded Cheddar

1 cup Velveeta

3 Eggs

1 cup whole milk

Salt and Pepper

1/3 cup Sour Cream

1/2 c butter

Cook noodles. Meanwhile mix other ingredients in crockpot. Add cooked noodles stir and cook for 2-3 hours.

Favorite Family Homemade Punch

1 Container Cranberry Juice

1/2 Container Orange Juice

2 large cans Pineapple juice

1 large Sprite

We usually make a frozen ring to keep the bowl cold I line oranges, raspberries, pineapple lemons etc in a bundt pan. Fill with orange juice and freeze!

Simple Sensory Bins For 1 Year Old

M2 (18 months) is super busy right now and it can be very difficult to keep a close eye on her while we are doing school work for M1 - 4 yrs

Sensory bins save the day but the mess can sometimes can be out of control! We cannot wait for the weather to warm up to play with things outside rather than in the house!

She really enjoys the simple sensory bins things like:

Dried Beans

Rice - Colored is especially fun

Lentils

Dried Peas

Water Beads

Cotton balls

Corn

bird seed

Basically anything you can pour, dump, pile or send through a funnel!

My solution to the mess?

the biggest vinyl shower curtain or table cloth you can find!

It works great!

Maple Syrup Snow Candy

A Sugar Snow!!!

We have been trying to fit this fun activity in for awhile and we had a good clean fresh snow the other day and dad went out side and collected a whole pan full of snow to make MAPLE SYRUP CANDY!

Ingredients:
Pure Maple Syrup
Candy Thermometer

1. Gather your snow in a large pan or bowl.

2. Heat syrup in a saucepan until approximately 235-240 degrees depending on how hard you want your candy to be. IF YOU DONT HAVE A CANDY THERMOMETER HERE is a tutorial on how to do it the old way before our modern kitchen tools.

3. When the syrup is heating make sure to keep it at a rolling boil not letting it boil up. WATCH IT CAREFULLY! and adjust heat accordingly.

4. We put it into our gravy boat to pour it then, easier and safer by my mommy standards! Then slowly pour over snow, don't pour too much on top of itself or it will just sink down in the pan. Then you can make swirly designs, letters, etc. The snow helps it harden and then ENJOY! DELICIOUS!

Here are some of our favorite recipes or combinations:

1. Strawberry Apple Pineapple Fruit Leather

2. Blueberry Raspberry Mango Fruit Leather

TO MAKE FRUIT LEATHER

1. blend in blender

2. Grease plastic liner of dehydrator

3. Pour about 1/4" thick

Time varies by ingredients I use 140-145 degree temp

Other Family Favorites

5. Dried orange on the rind

For the Zucchini since we are trying to eliminate processed food I try to use fruit juice, lemon juice, and honey to sweeten and flavor rather than koolaid!

Shaving Cream Glitter Paint the Tub Play

Add these two together and mix!

We then Added some other washable paints for extra color!

Then add paint brushes, sponges, brushes, and little hands!

We progressed from tub painting to tummy painting to sister painting...!

This was the perfect activity after spaghetti dinner... Can you tell?

M1 says "It looks delicious! And smells just like Daddy!"

When we were all done we added a little water and it all beautifully washed down the drain! Sparkling clean kids, ready for bed, and sparkling clean bathroom and tub = HAPPY MOMMY!

Once all the cones were done we used the red icing with a round tip to create a garland (this is obviously not necessary but I think it helped to make them all look a little more uniform together...)

She gave me a crazy look... But she is really proud of these! We put them on a tray and used coconut as snow! They have lasted the entire Christmas Season as our Center Piece on our Table!! Thanksgiving to New Years and I am sad to think it is almost time to throw them out! Maybe I can put them outside for the Birds...!

Glue Snowmen Window Clings

In Honor of the Coming Snowstorm a few weeks ago we made some snowmen to hang on the window!

Supplies:

Elmers Glue

Wax Paper/Non Stick Paper

Markers

Yarn/String

It is so simple!

Draw an outline with glue in the shape of a snowman, and then I let M1 fill them in with glue!

Ours sat overnight and by morning they were dry!

We added some snowman decorations,

Poked a hole in the top,

Tied a String!

So it has been a really really long time since I have posted... Things have been crazy busy here! Thanksgiving, Christmas, Listing our House... New Years... Homeschooling... and the list continues!
