Sweet. Simple. Elegant.

This beautiful ring is hand tied and it is made with one continuous piece of pure silver wire coiled around a nylon string. The thin twisted wire makes the ring flexible, soft and very comfortable to wear. It can be worn by people who suffer from arthritis too.
The ring has 6 leads and 13 bights.

This style of braiding is called kazaz. Kazaz technique is specific only to a city in the northern side of Turkey, called Trabzon. This thin fine silver wire coiled around a thin nylon string can be found only in Turkey and it is specific only to kazaz tecnique.

Ring size: approx US 7 1/2. Width measures 1/2 in (1.1 cm).

Since this ring is flexible, it will stretch slightly.
Again. The doctor prescribed to me two strong antibiotics and a pain killer. I hope the treatment will work fast. I can't do much since I feel so weak. I spent the rest of the day making hand tied Turks head knot rings. I love making them. What makes this silver ring so special is the fact that the ring is flexible. The special kazaz silver string makes the ring flexible: a very thin fine silver (999 silver) string (thin like the hair it is) coiled around a nylon string. I hope tomorrow I will take new pictures :)
My first one was a Singer Mars II, it was OK for my simple sewing projects, mostly table runners, pillow covers and sometimes a skirt. I wanted a stronger machine for more challenging projects: bags. Making bags means sewing through many thick layers of fabric, lining, interfacing, leather, straps, zippers, cords etc. I usually do a lot of online researching before buying a gadget for myself, and I read a lot of reviews and comments on forums over internet, I watched videos on YouTube, and finally I decided on a Janome, model 423s. I found a Janome dealer's address in Ankara. Most of sewing machine sellers and dealers are in an old district of Ankara called Ulus. It was quite late when I bought the machine and frankly speaking the guy from shop wasn't very helpful, I guess he was already thinking the dinner... but I was too excited to get this machine as soon as possible.

I am not a very experienced sewer, but I also can't say I haven't previously used a sewing machine... Sadly I got stuck with sewing many thick layers of fabrics: I got many ugly loops on the under side of the fabric. And so my Sisif work began: I changed the tension, re-threaded the bobbin, re threaded the needle, changed the needle, tried to use the zipper foot, tried to support the foot with a ruler, tried to sew on the lining too but every time I got those many ugly loops on the under side of the fabric. The foot couldn't be lowered too much as the thickness of the layers wouldn't permit this. I asked questions on sewing forums over internet, and nice people really tried to help me with their advices but it didn' help much. The best advice was to take my sewing projects and go to a Janome dealer/service and show them the project and ask for their help.I didn't go to the Janome dealer from where I bought my machine, I was lucky to found another Janome dealer. They listened to me and my pain. This 3 guys make the difference. The lady from left patiently showed me how to adjust the thread from bobbin by using a small screw driver. God knows I had tried so many ways but it didn't cross my mind that the bobbin thread's tension could be adjusted too. The guy was so patient too, he even taught me how to do free embroidery.

Three times I came over to their shop and today I asked their permission to write about them and to take their pictures. Sometimes, being a foreigner isn' very easy, different cultures, communication issues, but nice people can make a big difference.

She was nice enough tolet me have her personal cell no so I could call her whenever I would need help with my sewing projects.

Thank you Yeşim! I have a feeling that I will call you pretty soon :)

Same time İ am knitting and writing the instructions for a new knitting pattern: Keerpash Scarf. Dont't ask how on earth İ chose this name for this pattern... İt's the nickname of a friend of mine and it means small hedgehog in Turkish.

İ took a pic with for this W.İ.P. (work in progress in knitter's language :) ... ) But İ am still waiting for a less cloudy day to take a better picture in order to show the lovely texture of this stitch pattern which somehow resembles the falling of last leaves late in autumn.

My gauge was 17 sts x 23 rows for 4'' / 10 cm in Stockinette stitch with US 8 / 5.00 mm knitting needles.

Even the pattern stitch looks complicated, it is actually pretty easy. İt only requires knit, purl, yarn over, k2tog, skp and centered double decrease stitches.

İ am using a lovely yarn from Fibra Natura, Sensational Superwash 100 % Merino wool. İ love this yarn. İ am in awe. Each skein has 50 grams and İ guess 2 skeins will be enough for this project. My scarf has 5 '' width. İ will include, as usual, instructions for a wider scarf. Always be aware that a wider scarf means more yarn!
Serzany is a beautiful lacy scarf which features a lovely and deep textured stitch pattern too. İt is a quick and easy scarf to knit and it is a knitting pattern for beginner. İ used Malabrigo merino worsted for this project. İ love the softness of this yarn. İt shows so beautifully the beauty of the textured stitch pattern. Although the stitch pattern seems quite complicated, it is actually very easy: it only requires knit, purl, ssk, k2tog and yarn over stitches. İ used only one skein of Malabrigo merino worsted. The chart included in the written instructions from pattern makes so easy getting a wider or longer scarf. Don't forget that making a wider or longer version of this scarf requires more yarn.
İt's a cold November day. A wet cold November day. İ wish İ could drink a hot chocolate. İ ran off of it but it is so cold, İ won't go out just for it. İ prefer to stay curled up in sofa bed covered with a thick wool blanket. Sometimes it raines then it stops. İ watch TV but actually the TV is only turned on...The noise from TV makes me sleep and then İ start to dream that İ am on holiday with lots of friends, my former classmates from highschool...

İt is such a long way till next Spring...
And it is reversible which is very good for scarves. İ made the pdf file and now İ am looking for test knitters. İ posted a message on ravelry and İ already got a few replies. Last year İ celebrated it with my relatives: İ made so many sweets and pastries, and it was great to have all of them beside me on that day. This year it will be different. So different. Cause everything is changed. İ was just thinking of that, wow, during one year how many things changed. Things, situations, ciircumstances. İf İ draw the line, if İ could only draw the line...and make the total....but now İ feel to tired. This week İ can be tired cause it is my birthday week.
Back to knitting. İ have started a new project: a realtive asked me for a neck warmer. İn Constanta-Romania winters are pretty harsh, the weather has no mercy so İ decided for a 100% wool yarn that would keep my relatative warm. Soon İ will post pictures with this new project: a scarf with a very easy to memorize textured pattern. İ choose a dark red, a kind of raspberry red, for a dark taned person. Pics to be posted soon :)

Thanks to a great friend, the Ameeta Scarf knitting pattern is available into Swedish language too. Carola was so kind that she translated the pattern from English to Swedish.

This knitting pattern is easy to knit. The pattern stitch is easy to remember too, it requires only knit and purl stitches and it produces a very textured fabric which is reversible too. The scarf is unisex, it can be worn by men and women too, it only depends on the color scheme.

İt has been snowing since yesterday. İ am stuck at home. The wind makes almost impossible going out. Whenever İ look through the window İ feel so cold: there is so much snow everywhere. The roads are covered with snow and İ barely see people walking outside. İ thought that the smell of something baked in the oven would change this cold air at home. İ found a recipe on internet for a home made traditional Turkish pizza with mushrooms and cedar cheese (mantarlı kaşarlı pide). İ am pretty brave when it comes to try new recipe especially from internet and without even any single comment or review. But this project was a real success and İ like so much the smell of pizza while it is baking in the oven. My parents enjoyed an unusual lunch. İt was for the first time when they had Turkish pizza. İ also prepared ayran (yoghurt mixed with water, another traditional Turkish drink. Actually the mixture of yoghurt and water is beaten well until it gets foamy).

Now İ should return to my knitting project: a sweater for my friend in Ankara. Somehow it is my first big project, until now İ just worked on small projects like vests, tops, tunics or tanks, scarves and hats, and many bags İ can say. İ will post soon pictures with my work in progress.
Surprisingly, the preparation takes almost no time: very rapid and very easy. It's a very light meal. It is very popular in the south-east region of Turkey. I added the recipe below.

Ingredients:
1 kg fresh spinach
2 eggs (for every additional kg of spinach add 2 more eggs
2 tsp tomato paste
1,5 cup oil
salt

Instructions:
Wash the spinach. Keep the spinach for 1-2 minutes in boiling water then drain well.
Beat the 2 eggs.
In a frying wide pan heat the oil, then add the beaten eggs and the tomato paste. Stirr well for 2-3 minutes then add the drained spinach and stirr again for 2-3 minutes to blend with the eggs.

New Free Knitting Pattern: Ameeta Scarf

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 246px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxKJ6KD3yiyxvXUimRb76SBn8OKZALtAiG-76Ll_Cz0e0vzkTq4uvLerCtTvMygORXlSJEHV1v4TFvNeTjfLBikr-MJ8Uk0FYrcbDvyAGBhj4YALt_kx-yt-muXY7x4Sam8oliQ0VS35-O/s400/ameeta_scarf_1_medium.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5314127716458235762" />I am very pleased to offer another knitting pattern: a lovely scarf which has a beautiful texture. I thought Poems from Wisdom Yarns, a self striping yarn, similar to Noro (actually a much less expensive substitute) would be just perfect for this project. I used 4 skeins color #585 of this yarn. This yarn is a true pleasure to work with, it is very soft and the colors are my favorites: pastel tones.

The link for the free download is here. I would like to hear your opinion and I would be happy to help you with any questions you might have regarding this pattern. Last evening I hand crafted these wooden knitting needles. I decorated them with coconut shells and glass beads. İt makes knitting more enjoyable and it's so funny to notice people staring at my needles but ignoring my project.

Bursa’ya yolculuk / Trip to Bursa

Once in a month I go to Bursa and this Saturday, 27th December, I will go again. Bursa is a small city, near Uludağ mountain. Getting there has a fun part and this is when the bus goes into the ferry-boat. The not so fun part is that I have to wake up quite early, I have to be at 06.45 a.m. in İstinye for service pick-up. The express bus actually departs at 07.30 a.m. from Kavacık. I am a fidel customer of Nilüfer Turizm: I like their on board breakfast: cracker and cake with tea or coffee. The return, same day, at 05.00 p.m it’s boring because it’s already dark outside and there’s nothing much to see thru the windows, most of the passengers are sleeping and there’s nobody to chit chat with.
This time I’ll get my camera with me, I hope I can take pics of snowy peaks in Bursa.

Shopping for fabrics in Istanbul

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgP4keMzh8fPcO9uZgr1wa1nefIwG8romzRGwgQ79eJayuRiTSIN9dzZEmLx9JZQqjPJI9HjKvBjwrC4XaK_f7opmllhGa8VFYhQcEkmGbLgwA3mzRgI6srFpzmf3VwadWS1gA_StEjIb0B/s320/fabric_store.jpg" border="0" alt="bursa, istanbul, besiktas, fabric store in Istanbul, shopping for fabrics in istanbul"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5251797758558518642" />
Last week I was rambling in Besiktas, one of the most famous districts in Istanbul. I entered one fabric store. I was looking for a 100% linen or cotton fabric. I needed a thick fabric to refurbish a rescue chair. It should had been a natural fabric because I wanted to paint and stencil on it with acrylic paints.

My visit in that shop was such a pleasant shopping experience. The seller, an old and experienced man, told me so many and useful informations regarding fabrics. I am a very choosy customer, that type of buyer that not many sellers would love to see often. I like to ask many questions, change my mind in 5 minutes. I think I had half of the fabrics in the store exposed in front of me, on the desk, just for me to touch and feel them. I've never seen such a patient seller. His customer service was from far outstanding. He helped me a lot and I would highly recommend this shop to anybody who would like to buy fabrics in Istanbul. The shop's name is: Bursa Kumas Pazari and the its address is: Koyici Caddesi Buyuk Besiktas Carsisi no:21/303, Besiktas-Istanbul. Mr. Suleyman is happy to help you choose the most amazing fabrics. I will return there whenever I need lovely fabrics for my crafty projects.

Split Neckline Cap Sleeve Tee by Stefanie Japel from Fitted Knits book (part 2)

And I have another FO (finished object): Split-Neckline Cap Sleeve Tee by Stefanie Japel from Fitted Knits book.

I cast on for S size even my gauge was finer: 20 sts/4 ".
