Mo, the kids, and I went down Sea Isle today to look at some houses.  We looked only at those who were looking to rent for the season (5/28 through 9/12- that’s about 15 weeks.)  We found two somewhat promising ones.

 I personally love the first one (4802 Landis).  It’s a unit converted from an old Victorian house and is gorgeous with wood floors, stained glass, and the Jacuzzi.  The problem is, while it probably would meet the needs for the Knipp family, I don’t think it works as well for you young adults.  There’s basically one huge bedroom (with three bunk beds) and then the master bedroom (with a double bed).  The living area is realitvely small and not entirely convenient for crashing.  There is another small room that can be used as a bedroom, but that can sleep one at best.  The “main” bathroom (with the shower) is literally a converted space under a stairway (think Harry Potter’s cupboard under the stairs).  The bathroom with the Jacuzzi is big, but it’s off the back bedroom (the one with the bunk beds).  Finally, the bunk bed room also doubles as an entrance way to the outside – probably only a big deal if you’re also using the small room in the front entranceway as a bedroom as well, but still something to consider.

 The second one – (130 49th) is definitely functional (if a bit plain).  It has three full bedrooms and also a sleeper sofa.  All of the bedrooms and the main bath are on a second floor.  There is a half bath (toilet and sink) on the first floor. There is big dining area, lots of space to crash, etc.  Truthfully, if I never saw the Victorian (you know my weakness for old houses) it would probably be a no brainer.  From a strictly practical point – this one probably makes the most sense…but the Victorian is so freakin’ cool!  (incidently, the victorian is on sale for $400,000 – if anyone wants to invest with me, we can try and buy it outright!)

In terms of the summer rental,  There’s a few ways to do this, but one way would be to say everyon purchase a share (assume 1500 – 1700, depending on how many people we get).  Each “share” guarantees a bedroom for a week, with crash rights (ie, sleep whereever there’s room) for the whole summer

I’d be willing to put up about $3000 – $3400 representing  a larger share, (after all, my kids take up the most space!)  if I can get 7 other families, you’re looking at between $1500  – $1700 per family (depending on which house).  We could also just split evenly,     We can get together and discuss details soon….

 I don’t think I’ll get a chance to get down there again soon. I can look online some more, but am concerned if we want to do seasonal, we’re running out of time.

 For the immediate future, I just need to know the following:

 1.  Are you interested in doing this summer rental thing?  If so, is this in your budget?

2. If you had to chose between these two, which one would you choose?
