Shalwar kamees (also spelt shalwar kameez or shalwar qameez) is the dress worn by both women and men in northern South Asia and Central Asia. Traditionally, it has been worn in Afghanistan and areas comprising Pakistan. From the last century, the ladies of India have also adopted this dress in place of sari, the traditional dress of India. Shalwar or salwar (as pronounced in India) are loose pajama-like trousers. The legs are wide at the top, and narrow at the ankle. The kamees is a long shirt or tunic. The side seams (known as the chaak), left open below the waist-line, give the wearer greater freedom of movement.

A Brief History on Salwar Kameez:

Salwar kameez dates back to the 12th century since of Islamic or the Iranian era which was then follwed by the Moghul empire in the region called now as India and Pakistan.

During those days it was men and women both used to wear salwar kameez as part of the traditional dress but over the years Salwar Kameez has found its popularity in India and Pakistan and the salwar kameez is still worn in the continent.

Salwar kameez is also known as salwar qameez and has evolved itself over the centuries in a mix of Indian and western wear.

Salwar Kameez is popular as its comfortable to wear in day to day casual wear and also in wedding, functions and ceremonies. After much tabloid-style press coverage, the new Kardashians by bebe line is finally available for purchase online and in store. The mini-collection, which features thirteen pieces, offers a limited range of primarily going-out attire. The prices range from $59 for a Sexy Zip Top to $159 for an Asymmetric Blazer.

I won't lie-- much of the line scares me. The pieces feel like they are trying too hard to be cutting edge and the result is a line that actually looks dated. There's nothing worse that being two seasons behind on that too-easy-to-place look. There are pieces in this line that practically scream cheap knock-off of Balmain Fall 2009. Enough said.

But, despite my general aversion to the line, I did find a couple of pieces that show promise when separated from the pack. The Kardashians by bebe Leather Pencil Skirt at $149 is well-priced for a genuine leather skirt and has a higher-waisted silhouette that doesn't feel too trendy. The Silk Jumpsuit is a classier wardrobe piece, but the 32 inch inseam makes it unsuitable for us taller fashionistas. If a 32 inch inseam will still allow you to wear a high heel without looking like you are waiting for a flood, I'd give this jumpsuit a try.

New & Hot: Victoria's Secret Love Rocks Perfume

The newest fragrance from the ever-expanding label Victoria's Secret has a notable distinction-- it's the first VS product launch to be fronted by a celebrity rather than a Victoria's Secret model. But, after reading more about the new Victoria's Secret Love Rocks fragrance I can see why your standard, gorgeous lingerie model wasn't quite the right look.

Love Rocks is presented with the tag line "Wild at heart. A punk princess. Rock chic meets tres chic." Yeah, there's not a single curvy VS model who could pull that one off with a straight face. Does this mean that Victoria's Secret is going to move in a whole new direction, abandoning the disturbingly perfect lingerie model in favor of a look with a little more attitude? Doubtful. But, it is kind of fun to see Victoria's Secret make a little effort to reach out to those of us who don't seek to embody the bombshell aesthetic. Love Rocks launched this past week with teenage rebelette Taylor Momsen, best known as social climbing Little J in Gossip Girl, as the spokesperson. This photo is from the NYC launch party.

Now, down to the details that matter-- is this fragrance any good? I haven't had the chance to test drive Love Rocks myself, so I read up on the components of the scent. Love Rocks is classified as a Fruity Floral. The top notes include bergamot, peony and raspberry sorbet. Middle notes are comprised of sandalwood flower, jasmine, peach nectar, plum and stephanotis, with a dry-down base of golden amber, violet, cashmere musk and vanilla. Altogether, it doesn't sound like a bad blend. I'm fond of the way bergamot and amber play together-- definitely a less girly-girl scent combo-- and there isn't an overly-floral rose or lily in sight.

The $39.00 Eau de Parfum comes in a stylish red lacquer bottle with tattoo-inspired graphics and a signature VS atomizer adorned with a removable black faux leather rosette. I'm a big fan of faux fur. It's glam, but conscientious, and typically snuggly warm. But, I have a hard and fast rule about my own faux fur consumption: it can't pretend to be something that it's not. That is, I like my faux fur to be obviously faux. I've been going back and forth about denim leggings. On one hand, leggings are super comfortable and denim goes with just about everything. It should be perfect fit. On the other hand... well... denim leggings? It does seem like one of those fashion fads that people follow blindly, only to figure out years later that they were, in fact, a slave to fashion in the worst possible way. I'm not going to pretend that I have a solution to the dilemma, but I do have a example of how one might actually pull off this questionable trend.

I'm still not convinced that denim leggings are a trend that will last-- or that we won't be completely embarrassed for following a few years from now-- but I can now see the merits of this new take on denim. I might have to snap up a pair of denim leggings for myself to see what I can do with this trend.
