MANGA 'THERMAE ROMAE' GOES TO BIG SCREEN

'THERMAE ROMAE' is a Japanese manga series by Mari Yamazaki. It won the 3rd Manga Taishō and the Short Story Award at the 14th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize. Fuji TV has previously announced that they will produce a live-action film adaptation of the manga and now a teaser trailer has been released for 'THERMAE ROMAE'. Check it out below.

The story is a comedy about Lucius, an architect of public bath houses in ancient Rome. During the manga, he time-travels to various modern-day baths in Japan. Through manga and essay passages, the author explores the two cultures in the world "that have loved baths the most: the Japanese and the Romans".

Bauhinia Heroine is a real life super hero who dresses in costume and gives money to the poor, highlighting the growing wealth gap in China. The actual identity of Bauhinia woman is unknown, but her methods have attracted the attention of filmmmaker Stephen Shiu Jr, who will be making a film about her with rising star Chrissie Chau playing the superheroine.
Though the movie will start the shooting process in 2012 for a 2013 release, but some promo posters for ‘BAUHINIA HEROINE’ that shows Chrissie as the masked woman superhero who fighting injustice have already spread all over the web. Check two of the promo posters here.

Malaysian slasher movie ‘CLAYPOT CURRY KILLERS’ is still waiting to get its domestic theatrical release permission but a trailer has been released for it. Directed by James Lee, an art film director who took a hard turn into extreme horror with ‘Histeria’ and has dabbled with genre tropes ever since, the movie has been premiered at some Asian film festivals. Set in a family run restaurant where the meat is sourced by questionable means, the film received a blunt no when initially submitted to the Malaysian censorship board. And so Lee and his producers created a tamer cut and resubmitted. Almost 80% of the drama 'BLACK & WHITE' was filmed in Kaohsiung, which included the True Love Ferry Pier, Formosa Boulevard MRT Station, the Dream Mall and more. The drama’s magnificent filming also increased the local area’s tourism.
The movie version is returning to Kaohsiung again. Since the original south district police station has been taken down and the hamburger place was destroyed in an explosion scene in the drama, they will be constructing new ones for the movie. The local government is also providing funding for the movie to rebuild the south district police station film studio.

New character posters are up for three of four brave ladies in upcoming 3D epic martial arts movie 'FLYING SWORDS OF DRAGON GATE'. The posters featuring Chris Lee (Bodyguards and assassins) who played a rich offspring in the Ming Dynasty, Taiwanese pop singer Mavis Fan who played the mysterious lady who own the Dragon Inn, and Kwai Lun-Mei as wild foreign tribe princess. According to the report, Chris Lee costume alone took more than two and a half months to design. Art director Yee Chung Man tried to "darken" her face for the character but finally gave up and used her natural beauty. Lee received the director's permission to change the image according to her own ideas. She said, "Like the modern young people who hate to dress the standard way and like to D.I.Y to display their individuality, I deliberately carried the backpack slanted and turned the pants into Chinos. They looked a little more handsome."

Kwai Lun-mei's costume cost 100,000 yuan. The red dress had an armor and gem sequence, her make up and hairstyle also maintained the "complex" specialty with her 70 wrist long braids and the antique silver hair accessories. She also had "veil like" tattoos on her cheeks.

EPICAL SEA ADVENTURE IN DUTCH EPIC 'NOVA ZEMBLA' TRAILER

'NOVA ZEMBLA', a large-scale historical drama which is also the first Dutch movie to be filmed with the new 3D technology from director Reinout Oerlemans has started the biggest buzz currently in the Dutch film industry. The story concerns the true-life travel of Willem Barentsz, who in 1596 tried to find a shorter shipping route to India by going North over Russia through uncharted waters. The ship and its crew got surprisingly far, managing to round the Northern tip of the island Nova Zembla before getting irrevocably stuck in the ice. Plagued by hunger, extreme cold and attacks by polar bears, the men made it through the winter by demolishing their wooden ship and using the planks to build a large shelter on the island. When spring arrived the survivors demolished the shelter, built a smaller boat and managed to travel back to The Netherlands. Singapore actress Michelle Chong has taken the roles very different from what she had done before – Chong has directed, produced and starred in her very first film "Already Famous", which will be released in cinema this November. A brand new trailer for 'THE WOMAN IN BLACK' has made its way out. Courtesy of MSN, the sneak peek into CBS Films' horror thriller gives an idea how bone-chilling the movie will be. In the movie, Daniel Radcliffe takes on the role of Arthur Kipps, a young lawyer who travels to a remote village to attend to the affairs of the recently deceased owner of Eel Marsh House. He soon discovers that woman in black is terrorizing the locals. When those closest to him become threatened by the vengeful ghost, he is forced to find a way to break the cycle of terror.

LEE HOM AND BING BING ARE GETTING INVOLVED WITH ‘CONCUBINE YANG’

A portrayal of one of China's most historic beauties will be the subject of the latest co-production involving a Chinese production company, continuing a trend to gain access to the world's third-largest movie market. Slated as a China-Japan-Korea co-production, the film that has a stated $20 million budget will tell the story of a Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD) imperial consort, Yang Gui Fei, who was the favorite of the Emperor Xuanzong. Despite her legendary beauty and relationship with the emperor, she was ultimately killed by the emperor's guards after her family was blamed for a rebellion against the monarch.

While the story may be familiar to Asian audiences, Yang Gui Fei may fail to resonate with global filmgoers more accustomed to Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty, although they do address similar themes, themes that attracted South Korean director Kwak Jae-yong (My Sassy Girl) to the project. The film features Fan Bingbing, China's leading domestic female star, as the eponymous beauty. At the press conference, Fan was joined by American-born actor and singer Wang Leehom, who will play poet Li Bai, and director Kwak. Kwak said in a separate statement that China Film Group chairman Han Sanping had chosen him to direct. Chow Yun-fat has been discussed as possible for the emperor, but representatives from the film declined to name any other cast members. Set to begin shooting next month in Korea, Yang Gui Fei will wrap in February, in time for a later 2012 release. No distribution had yet been confirmed, but China Film Group’s participation almost guarantees that it will handle the film domestically.

Moon is a Taekwondo master running an old Taekwondo gym in Bangkok. All five members of his family are also the masters of Taekwondo in different styles: his wife Yoon in cooking style, son Taeju in dancing style, daughter Taemi in soccer style, and the youngest Typhoon can break anything with his strong forehead.
Moon wants his children to be Taekwondo coaches to take over his gym in future. However, regardless of their father’s will, Taeju wants to be a famous pop singer and Taemi is only interested in her secret crush at school.
One day, Taekwon family encounters treasure robbers on the street by accident and happens to get caught into fight with them. With surprising martial art skills, TK family knocks down the robbers and takes back the stolen treasures. The head of the robbers Pom, who is notorious for many crimes, escapes alone and trembles with rage.
TK family becomes famous in public. But, They do not know that Pom is planning to get his revenge.

Have been released recently is the awaited first full length trailer for epic martial arts 'FLYING SWORDS OF DRAGON GATE', the Jet Li starred 3D period costume flick that is director Tsui Hark's attempt to remake the 1992 classic film 'NEW DRAGON INN' for which he was a producer. Loosely based on Hark's own 1992 film 'NEW DRAGON INN', the film stars Jet Li as a Ming Dynasty general who must battle a power-hungry eunuch, played by Chen Kun, who has violently crushed revolts, establishing a reign of terror. With his troops, the eunuch is now chasing the remaining rebels, which are stuck in the Dragon Inn, a place for thieves, assassins…
The film also co-stars Zhou Xun, Li Yuchun, Kwai Lun-Mei, Louis Fan and Mavis Fan. The collaboration between Tsui and Jet Li, the first since their ‘ONCE UPON A TIME IN CHINA’ films, is a big reason to be excited about the film. Plus it will be the first ever 3D wu xia film!
