01. Miami Dolphins – OT Jake Long, Michigan

Fills their biggest need.
==
02. St. Louis Rams – DE Chris Long, Virginia

The Rams need pass rush and the Giants Super Bowl proved how valuable these players can be.
==
03.Atlanta Falcons – QB Matt Ryan, Boston College

The Atlanta Falcons have 2 QBs on their roster and they are named DJ Shcokley and Chris Redman and you and I both know those guys will not be the starting QBs in 2008, I think the Arthur Blank has made his mind up hes going to select Matt Ryan if the Dolphins don’t select him first.
==
04.Oakland Raiders – DE Vernon Gholston, Ohio State

Oakland will be tempted to add Darren McFadden and one of the big DTs here but I think Vernon Gholston is really impressing some scouts here to say the least as of late, losing Chris Clemmons this offseason takes away some QB pressure and behind Burgess and fellow Ohio State alumn Jay Richardson the raiders depth at DE is real slim, personally I think Vernon Gholston will be a great 4-3 end but he is versatile enough to play 4-3 linebacker, running a 4.58 at his pro day. Hes a freak and in my eyes hes the best defensive player in the draft.
==
05.Kansas City Chiefs – CB Leodis McKelvin, Troy

Kansas City is in rebuilding mode, they released Ty Law so they have a glaring need at CB, people think they will go with a OT here but I don’t believe there is a top 5 OT besides Jake Long maybe Ryan Clady but his style just does not fit KC’s blocking scheme so they can hold off and pick up a quality OT next round. McKelvin is also an electric punt returner he will be a whole lot back to special teams that they missed with Dante Hall in St Louis.
==
06. New York Jets – RB Darren McFadden, Arkansas

The Jets don’t really have a glaring need that has a value in the first round, they adressed DT and OLB in FA and it would be too early for them to go corner with young CBs in development already, Thomas Jones isn’t done but he is getting old and who knows if hes the right fit, he will start but McFadden can come in and take some carries away from him, Leon Washington will be used only in returns and certain 3rd down situations. Jets just brought in Tony Richardson a true blocking FB who blocked for Adrian Peterson and Chester Taylor last year and the Jets hope they can have the same success with Darren McFadden and Thomas Jones.
==
07. New England Patriots – CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Tennessee State

With the departure of Asante Samuel and Randall Gay CB becomes their #1 need going into the draft, they could take Leodis McKelvin instead but DRC has way too much talent and upside to pass up here.
==
08. Baltimore Ravens – CB Aqib Talib, Kansas

Baltimores CBs are getting old, Aqib Talib is a solid pick here
==
09. Cincinnati Bengals – DT Glenn Dorsey, LSU

Bengals really missed out on Shaun Rogers they thought they had the trade complete but the lions pulled away at the last minute with a better offer from the browns, so they are amazed at both Glenn Dorsey and Sedrick Ellis still being there at #9
==
10. New Orleans Saints – LB Keith Rivers, USC

Adding Jonathan Vilma this off-season was a brilliant move, its obvious the saints are ready to re-vamp a glaring need that has been ignored year after year, recently the saints just signed Dan Morgan to compete at WLB which means they question if Shanlee can start for them anymore. With the top 2 CBs off the board the Saints look to the future here and draft a new piece to the LB core Keith Rivers who will eventually start for many years at WLB.
==
11. Buffalo Bills – WR Limas Sweed, Texas

Funny how the draft works players stocks fall and rise up and down and up and down, now Malcolm Kelly is being questioned about injuries and Limas Sweed is checking out fine, but wait just last month it was the other way around, anyway scouts say Limas Sweed reminds them of the lions Roy Williams a solid possesion WR with a good but not great speed just what Buffalo needs at WR oposite Lee Evans.
==
12. Denver Broncos – DT Sedrick Ellis, USC

The broncos are shocked that Sedrick Ellis is still on the board at 12 and pull the trigger on him right away, DT is their biggest need with LB and S being adressed in the FA period.
==
13. Carolina Panthers – OT Chris Williams, Vanderbilt

The Panthers need tackles who can start, Williams the feet, balance and smarts required for the job.
==
14. Chicago Bears – OT Ryan Clady, Boise State

The Bears can’t believe that Ryan Clady fell them here at 14, OT is a huge need and they adress it right away in the first round with a potential franchise LT.
==
15. Detroit Lions – DE Derrick Harvey, Florida

With CB being adressed in the FA and no top 15 worthy LBs left on the board the lions go with another need a very important piece to playing the Tampa 2 is QB pressure, Derrick Harvey gives you just that.
==
16. Arizona Cardinals – RB Rashard Mendenhall, Illinois

Edge is getting older and he can’t do it forever to be more effective he could use a backfield mate to take some of his carries away, quite honestly this is the perfect fit for Rashard Mendenhall who only started one full year at Illinois he has a chance to learn from a great RB and develop slowly not being thrown into a starting role.
==
17. Minnesota Vikings – DE Calais Campbell, Miami

Real sad situation with Kenechi Udeze but it is a reality and even before this tragic news came front the vikings were looking to upgrade the pass rush so now it becomes even more of a need, Miami’s Calasis Campbell fits the describtion here and he’d be a solid pick for the Vikings.
==
18. Houston Texans – RB Jonathan Stewart, Oregon

Mike Shannahan never drafted a RB in the first round, but that doesn’t mean his under study Gary Kubiak won’t. Ahman Green is not a long term answer and Ron Dayne will likely be cut sometime soon. The Texans get a solid feature RB in Jonathan Stewart who many believe could be the best back in the draft but that could be said for all 3 RBs.
==
19. Philadelphia Eagles – S Kenny Phillips, Miami

The Eagles need help at safety this is no secret and Brian Dawkins isn’t getting any younger Phillips can learn from a big time NFL safety and grow into a starting role instantly in Philadelphia, and all of a sudden the eagles have a nice looking secondary on paper.
==
20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – CB Mike Jenkins, South Florida

CB is a big need in Tampa, and Monte Kiffen himself drove over to watch local prospect Mike Jenkins’ pro day and he said “Man, this kid is something else” “You can’t teach speed like that” he would be astounded if Mike Jenkins was available here 20.
==
21. Washington Redskins – DE Phillip Merling, Clemson

The Redskins need to upgrade their defensive line rotation Merling can play both DE and DT so he will serve well in this role, he can both stop the run effectively and rush the passer.
==
22. Dallas Cowboys (VIA Cle) – WR Malcolm Kelly

The Cowboys biggest need isn’t WR but with Malcolm Kelly on the board they can’t pass him up, he has the chance to develop into a #1 WR when TO decides to hang it up one day for now he can be a solid option oposite TO if he can prove his skills and beat out Glenn and Crayton.
==
23. Pittsburgh Steelers – OT Jeffrey Otah, Pittsburgh

The Steelers have problems along the offensive line, Jeffrey Otah can play both tackle and guard so the Steelers find themselves a steal with Otah falling this far.
==
24. Tennessee Titans – WR DeSean Jackson, Cal

Vince Young needs more weapons, and thats just what DeSean Jackson is he is a deep threat and an electric player with the football in his hands, they draft Jackson to go along with TE Alge Crumpler and now Vince Young has some new toys. Extra value in this pick also Titans won’t be taking back pac-man when hes re-instated so they get a new KR/PR threat and doesn’t make it rain, DeSean Jackson is the best KR/PR in this draft.
==
25. Seattle Seahawks - OG Branden Albert, Virginia

Things have not been the same since Steve Hutchinson left town, and Walter Jones is aging the o-line will get an upgrade by adding Braden Albert, right now hes classified as a guard but he is a quick learner and he posses the skill and ability to make the switch to LT, where many scouts think thats where his future is at, but for now he can play guard and compete with a starting spot against 10 Year Vet Mike Wahle, and even if he doesn’t start right away hes a nice insurance policy.
==
26. Jacksonville Jaguars – DT Kentwan Balmer, North Carolina

With WR being adressed by picking up Jerry Porter the Jags turn to Kentwan Balmer with the departure of Marcus Stroud and the age of Grady Jackson this pick makes a lot of sense.
==
27. San Diego Chargers – FS DaJuan Morgan, North Carolina State

The Chargers need to find a starting FS, DaJuan Morgan will come in and compete for a starting job in 2008.
==
28. Dallas Cowboys – RB Felix Jones, Arkansas

The Cowboys need to grab a change of pace back with the departure of Julius Jones, Jerry loves Darren McFadden so I am sure hes familiar with his running mate from Arkansas Felix Jones..
==
29. San Francisco 49ers (VIA Ind) – QB Joe Flacco, Deleware

Shocker Pick!? Not really…..Alex Smith must put up or shuttup this year, because Mike Martz loves big armed QBs that can just throw the football all day and thats exactly what Joe Flacco is hes a smart kid that could come in and learn Mike Martz system, He played his way into the 1st round with solid pre-draft work outs and impressive interviews, Martz coached Flacco a bit at the senior bowl and he really loved the kid so we will see if Alex Smith gots what it takes to overcome this and become the true franchise QB. You ask why Flacco here instead of a WR, well WR has a better value for them with their early 2nd round selection and they couldn’t take Flacco there because teams like Miami, Baltimore, KC, or even the Jets might think about selecting Flacco. The pick makes sense to me. Remember Martz influenced the pick of Drew Stanton with the 34th overall pick last year for the lions, don’t be suprised if he goes QB / WR here.
==
30. Green Bay Packers – TE Dustin Keller, Purdue

The Packers don’t have very many needs they just need to help their young QB Aaron Rodgers come in and feel comfortable and whats the best way to make a new QB feel a bit more safe on the football field? Get him the old security blanket aka a pass catching tight end and thats exactly what Purdue’s Dustin Keller is.
==
New England Patriots – Pick Forfeited

Violation of league rules.
==
31. New York Giants – LB Dan Connor, Arizona

With the departure of Mitchell and Torbor the Giants need to reload at LB and they do just that by going straight to penn st. where they produce fine line backers and select LB Dan Connor who I believe will fit well into a outside linebacker role.

32. Miami Dolphins- DE Quentin Groves, Auburn
33. St. Louis Rams- OG Chilo Rachal, USC
34. Oakland Raiders- OT Gosder Cherilus, Boston College
35. Kansas City- OT Anthony Collins, Kansas
36. New York Jets- CB Tracy Porter, Indiana
37. Atlanta Falcons- OT Sam Baker, USC
38. Baltimore Ravens- QB Brian Brohm, Louisville
39. San Francisco 49ers- WR James Hardy, Indiana
40. New Orleans Saints- CB Patrick Lee, Auburn
41. Buffalo Bills- CB Brandon Flowers, Virginia Tech
42. Denver Broncos- WR Devin Thomas, Michigan State
43. Carolina – QB Chad Henne, Michigan
44. Chicago Bears- WR Early Doucet, LSU
45. Detroit Lions- ILB Jerod Mayo, Tennessee
46. Cincinnati Bengals- OLB Erin Henderson, Maryland
47. Minnesota Vikings- OLB Xaiver Adibi, Virginia Tech
48. Atlanta Falcons- DT Trevor Laws, Notre Dame
49. Philadelphia Eagles- WR Mario Manningham, Michigan
50. Arizona Cardinals- CB Antoine Cason, Arizona
51. Washington Redskins- DE Lawrence Jackson, USC
52. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- DT Dre Moore, Maryland
53. Pittsburgh Steelers- CB Charle Godfrey, Iowa
54. Tennessee Titans- OG Jeremy Zuttah, Rutgers
55. Seattle Seahawks- TE Fred Davis, USC
56. Green Bay Packers from Cleveland- CB Reggie Smith, Oklahoma
57. Miami Dolphins from San Diego- ILB Curtis Johnson, Okalhoma
58. Jacksonville Jaguars- SS Tyrell Johnson, Arkansas State
59. Indianapolis Colts- OG Oniel Cousins, UTEP
60. Green Bay Packers- OLB Shawn Crable, Michigan
61. Dallas Cowboys- CB Justin King, Penn St.
62. New England Patriots- OLB Cliff Avril, Purdue
63. New York Giants- DB Terrell Thomas, USC

Rivals.com posted their position rankings this week and we encourage you to go check them out because they have some pretty good in-sight on every position and they break down every class, I was taking a look myself and I would have to say RB and CB are the strongest class of 2008 and particularly the Running Back position. Jonathan Stewart looks to be my favorite followed up by Mendenhall I think these 2 will be franchise backs in the league in the next year or so, personally when its all said and done this might be the deepest RB class ever, so many late round sleepers too. Heres a clip from the RB breakdown on Rivals.com below.

This class should produce as many as 10-12 quality feature backs, with a few at the top of the class capable of becoming special pro runners. There will be at least three No. 1 picks in April with McFadden, Mendenhall and Stewart probably going in the top 20 selections. Others runners with top-50 grades are Felix Jones, Steve Slaton and Kevin Smith. Junior running backs Jamaal Charles and Ray Rice will warrant top-100 selections. Seniors Chris Johnson, Mike Hart and Allen Patrick could figure into that group if they impress at the NFL Combine in February.

Why :: Before Pro-Bowl Weekend Chris Long was the pick on mocks all across the net, and never before have the dolphins express over pro-bowl weekend it was reported that if the Dolphins could not trade this pick that Chris Long would be a “safe” pick at #1 for Miami.

Why :: How many times do you have to watch your QB get sacked to realize you need help up front. Did you say more than 45 times? If you did you were right oh and you say you have a great RB but can’t open many holes for him well damn maybe you need a new LT or maybe a new RT, Jake Long can do both and is a great run blocker, and he keeps his quarterback upright with questions surrounding Orlando Pace, Jake Long is a solid pick.

Why :: I don’t have to say much here, I was wrong in my last mock saying they would take Dorsey, I been thinking about it and looking at past raiders draft and Al Davis just simply will not pass on McFadden period even if they do need a DT with 2 stud DTs on the board, you just can’t picture Al Davis passing on DMac.

Why:: Their OL play has been absolutely horrible, and it has taken a beating over the last couple of years with the retirement of great veterans at the tackle and guard positions they still haven’t been able to find any legit LTs and thats exactly what Ryan Clady is so the Chiefs don’t even think twice and rush this pick up to the podium.

Why:: Wouldn’t be a NFL Draft without a reach or a shocking pick, this might shock some people but it shouldn’t shock people that follow the falcons, its been noted that the new head coach wants to bring a power running game to Atlanta and so does the offensive coordinator so with Stewart rising up draft boards and who figures to continue rising after the combine and with Arthur Blank looking for high character players, they don’t get any choir boy with character than Stewart so it would make sense to draft this speedy 235 lb battering ram, perfect way to start your power running game, Warrick Dunn is done and Jerious Norwood will be the change of pace back getting 10-15 carries a game.

Why :: Patriots linebackers are aging and they looked pretty average towards the end of their playoff run, so going into the off-season I think grabbing a rush OLB is their biggest need and if Vernon Gholston is here they would take him.

Why :: With an aging secondary the Baltimore Ravens new coaching staff pulls the trigger on what many scouts believe is the best CB in the draft, and thats Leodis McKelvin from Troy he is a perfect prospect for the ravens he doesn’t need to start right away but when the time comes he will be ready.

Why :: The Bengals have many needs on defense but they really do not have a legit impact starting DT and they will be real fortunate if Sedrick Ellis lands here for them, he is an explosive penetrating DT who gets off the ball quick some scouts actually see Ellis as being a bit better than Dorsey so Ellis would be a steal at 9.

Why :: The Lions just could not be effective running the football, their running back’s couldn’t stay healthy at all. Listen I have always liked Kevin Jones but the lions don’t the lions coaching staff has already expressed their want for a new running back that can take the hits, and make people miss because Kevin Jones has just been unlucky and hasn’t been able to stay healthy or live up to his rookie year numbers. Rashard Mendenhall will be an instant impact at the RB spot either earning a starting role or splitting time with Kevin Jones, sure the Lions have plenty of needs on defense, but its hard to pass up someone that could be the best RB in this draft, if this happens they will go CB in FA and grab another one in the 2nd round of the draft.

Why :: Antrelle Rolle moving to FS opens up a glaring need for depth at the CB position but you don’t draft in the first round for depth you draft for starters and Mike Jenkins was first looked at as the best CB in the draft but since the others have emerged he could be a steal here. he will instantly challenge for a starting role at the #2 corner spot.
