Many believe that a ceiling fan is never a cute statement. I disagree. A ceiling fan in every bedroom and in the places where a lot of living is done is an absolute must to me. That does not mean I plan to give up style.

My basement plan is to incorporate as
much of the mid-century theme as possible. My carpet will be tightly woven with
a graphic print weave. That got me started on the whole 60's den concept.

It sounds like a challenge. However that look is so popular
these days that sharp affordable pieces can be readily found. A sleeker, tufted
look and a lot of blues and greens indicative of the time will help add that
authentic feel. Stores like Target offer many affordable [pieces that you can
use to throw a mid-century look into a space.

Some lights can stay and just be refinished. Some must go.
The basement has a lot of florescent lighting. All will be replaced by cans.
The brass cans will be replaced with white. Every fan will be replaced. My
Husbands office will get a fan. All of the flush ceiling lighting will become
cans also. In the laundry room I will be placing a vintage light bulb in the
semi flush light fixture. I LOVE the ceiling in here too. I have less space though and a strange layout. A lot of windows is nice…until you try to place furniture. I have a huge room right now and this will be a bit of an adjustment. I also have tiny closet space and no linen closet in this new place. So I want to find a place for a double PAX wardrobe. I see some bedroom furniture NOT making it in this room. I LOVE the ceiling in here. I am going to put my yellow side board on the only available wall. I am going to re-do the chandi with rub n buff, fabric, new shades & bulbs. Wood floors, shutters and paint. The doors to the kitchen are going away. I really want to do something with the trim, I just may have to put off something’s for later based on time & physical restrictions. The cabinets are solid, so they are staying. I will be trimming the fronts
and getting larger hardware. The hardware will be put on horizontally. I am painting
them a creamy white in a satin finish. Sausha recommends BM Mascarpone
color matched in satin at Sherwin Williams. I will be painting the banister and
most of my large black furniture pieces the same color.
