My parents live in a beautiful old farmhouse and one of their spare bedrooms really needed a makeover. Well, to be honest: they just never finished it. When my grandparents bought a new bed my parents placed the old one in their (half finished) spare bedroom, and that was it. I thought it would be a great idea to find a nice wallpaper for this room to update the look of the bed. Also, I do love the reclaimed wood cabinets, but the fact that the whole room isn’t finished yet just makes it look old (not in a good way). My parents choose this beautiful patterned wallpaper with large florals from Photowall (Obviously Pink 24A). We got the premium wallpaper with the tool set. Everything you need is in the tool set. The only thing we were missing was a stick to stir the wallpaper glue. The glue was amazing by the way, the wallpaper is really thick and heavy, so we where a little bit afraid that it would come right off. But it worked perfectly!
Because the wallpaper is so heavy we did run into a few things that we would do different next time. First: There is this piece you have to cut of after the glue has dried. I think I would cut off that piece before gluing it down next time. As you can see our walls have an angle. We tried to just glue the paper down en cut it off later. That was a giant fail. It was way to heavy to do it that way, it came right down. This makes it a little bit trickier to glue down walls that aren’t rectangles.

Photowall is not cheap, actually it’s quite expensive. Do I think it’s worth it? Well yes, I absolutely do! The wallpaper goes on smoother than any other wallpaper we ever tried before, and it looks so luxurious! They have the most beautiful patterns and images to choose from, so there will be something for everyone. If you want something special, that looks high end and are willing to spend some money this wallpaper is for you!

If you order your Photowall wallpaper before June 4th 2021 you can use my code bywilma25a and you get 25% off!

I love a little bit of spice to my food but with a 3 year old I can’t just spice up every dish. Sambal is a great way to add a little bit of spice to individual dishes. It’s an Indonesian sauce and widely available here in the Netherlands. It tastes great as a sauce with meat or use it to marinade for example chicken. Delicious! There are many different kinds of sambal but the store bought variants are by far not as tasty as homemade sambal. The homemade Sambal Badjak recipe that I’m sharing with you today has many layers of sweet, sour and spicey. Store bought sambal here in the Netherlands mostly tastes sour and spicy. So if you want to try this delicious spicy sauce I really recommend making your own! Stir the sambal until blended and heat for another minute or two. Now you can put the sauce in a jar. Keep in the fridge with a little bit of oil on top for a longer shelf life.

1. Take your ribbon and place it on top of your flip flop straps. Cut a little triangle in the ribbon where it has to turn the corner. Use your lighter to burn the cut edges to prevent the ribbon from fraying.

2. Glue the ribbon on the flip flop and cut of the sides so it covers your flip flops straps completely. Burn the edges with your lighter to prevent it from fraying.

3. To make the strap on top of your bohemian flip flops you have to measure your instep. Cut a piece of ribbon (burn the edges!) and a piece of the cotton twill tape and glue them on top of each other.

4. Glue the strap inside the existing straps that are already on the flip flops.

That’s it! I hope you enjoyed this DIY because I’m planning on making more pretty flip flops very soon! XO Wilma

Find the perfect ginger root

First you need to find the right kind of ginger root. Try to find a piece that has a plump and smooth skin. Preferably with some green buds already sprouting from the root. I like to buy my ginger at a Turkish super market, for some reason the ginger I buy there is way better than what the supermarket has to offer.

Soak your ginger

Most store bought ginger has growth inhibitors on them. In order to remove this and also to hydrate the root you have to soak your ginger in a bowl of water for 12-24 hours.

Step 3. Plant your ginger

Ginger roots grow horizontally, so you need a wide but shallow pot. I choose smaller pot to start the ginger root and move the plant to a bigger pot when the ginger grows. Ginger loves rich soil. I use potting soil to which I add extra fertilizer every week. Don’t bury your ginger too deep! It should be almost uncovered. Just press it down into the dirt.

Step 4. Taking care of your ginger

Place your pot in a spot with indirect sunlight. Don’t let the soil dry out between watering and add fertilizer to your plant every week. Ginger is not a fast growing plant, so it takes a few weeks up to a month to see any roots growing.

Step 5. Harvesting your ginger

After a 3 or 4 months you can harvest your first roots. These roots are still green, and not as strong in taste as the original beige roots. After 8-10 months the ginger is beige colored and ready to be harvested.

Now you know how to grow ginger from a store bought ginger root. In a few days I will share a recipe for my favorite sambal with you. It’s a sweet sambal with (of course) a lot of ginger in it! XO Wilma

Cut the necklace to the right size for your buffalo skull. If it’s a beaded necklace (like mine) you can cut the necklace and thread the part you want to ckeep onto a new piece of nylon thread. Add as many things you like.

Use your glue gun to attach the jewelry to the skull.

I love how these buffalo skulls turned out. They look amazing in my office. XO Wilma

Break 16 forks, 16 knives and 12 spoons in two pieces. The breaking point thus should be approximately at the end of the handle. You can trow out the upper half of the knives and the forks, the spoons will be used in its entirety.

 2. This is the first sunburst mirror that you will make. For this one you will use the handles of the knives and the forks. The fun part of the cutlery set is that the knives have a flat handle and the forks, a slightly curved handle. This can vary nicely around your mirror. Start with the forks. Put some glue on the first handle at 12 o’clock, the second at 3 o’clock, the third at 6 o’clock and the last at 9 o’clock. Use your glue gun for this.

3. Place a fork handle exactly between the previously placed handles. Repeat this until you have glued down all of the 16 fork handles. Now you can put in the knife handles between the already glued down fork handles. Make sure these are slightly lower than the fork handles so you get a nice sunburst mirror effect.

4. For the second sunburst mirror you use the spoons. Start with the handles glue the first down at 12 o’clock, the second at 3 o’clock, the third at 6 o’clock and the last at 9 o’clock. Now place between the handles you’ve already glued down, another two handles. It basically comes down to a handle for every hour of the day. Now glue down the upper part of the spoons between the handles.

The mirrors that I use for this project are magnifying mirrors, but because I use them as a decoration piece it doesn’t really bother me. I’m super happy with how this project turned out and I am super curious about what you think about this project. Please let me know in the comments below!

How to make goat yogurt bark

Grab a large baking dish and line it with a piece of parchment paper. Pour the goat yogurt in and spread it.

Put the berry jam in a saucepan and heat until it is liquid. Stir two-thirds of the jam through the yogurt.

Spread the strawberries, blueberries and almonds over the yogurt. Finish it off by sprinkling the remaining jam over the yogurt.

Place the baking dish in the freezer for at least four hours. Remove the bark from the freezer 15 minutes before serving.

This Valentines day I wanted to do something extra special. Normally I cook something really nice (read: something with expensive meat) but we didn’t really have the budget for that. So it had to be low budget but amazing at the same time. It started with the idea of an indoor picknick and ended up with this amazing bohemian blanket fort. How cool is that? I have a lot of pretty bohemian blankets and fabrics lying around, so that part was easy. The hard part was the frame. I wanted a big blanket fort that would fit the three of us easily. I considered many options but in the end I used an old frame of a party tent that I had lying around. It came with the caravan we bought last year and we didn’t really know what to do with it (it’s green and hideous). But hey, for my blanket fort the frame was just right! I used only half of the frame and some tie wraps to keep the frame together. The whole thing was 3 meter on each side, so that would have been way to big for my living room. But using half of the tent […]

The whole thing was 3 meter on each side, so that would have been way to big for my living room. But using half of the tent frame worked like a charm! I draped the blankets and fabrics over the frame and I used clothes pins to keep everything in place.

To make everything extra special I added a bunting that I made a few years back for Rens his birthday and some firefly lights. Inside the tent we used some pillows from our couch and a few extra blankets to make it really cozy.

As you can see Rens wanted to sleep in the blanket fort. But we ended up eating pancakes and cheesecake inside our beautiful bohemian tent. Tom loved it, Rens loved and I did too. So we really had an amazing Valentines Day!

Dress: Zaful Necklace: Ebay Bracelets: Forever21 Rings: Primark and Larimar Bliss I love long bohemian style summer dresses. I just can’t get enough of them. I love how they flow, I love the colors and (floral) prints and I love how I can look great by just putting on one item of clothing. So when Zaful asked me to review one of their clothes or accessories I didn’t have to think long (or hard). I wanted a pretty, long bohemian summer dress. I choose this pretty high waisted maxi dress because I just loved the color and the bohemian print. Zaful offers really cheap clothing so I didn’t really know what to expect of the dress. I love brands like Forever21, Boohoo and Newlook, but I never ordered anything from a Chinese company. I normally where a size medium, but a European size medium is a lot different than an Asian size Medium. Luckily Zaful offers size guides so you can find the size you need. I did order the biggest size (a XL) for this dress, but I did see that the sizes are varying a lot per clothing item, so you have to check the size guides every time you want to […]

The quality of the dress is better than I expected. Of course, it’s a cheap dress, so no expensive fabrics here. And the fabric wrinkles easily. But what can you expect of a really cheap dress? I love the look of the dress, it really is very pretty and the print is absolutely stunning!

Would I buy again from Zaful? I might. I found the sizing very confusing, but the quality of the dress is pretty decent. Certainly for this price category. Plus they have a lot of pretty bohemian style dresses (there is a full bohemian dresses category!). So I am tempted to buy one in the future!
