Someone in the session asked about combining email marketing with text messaging. I knew the last time I looked that wasn’t an option through the same vendor It looks like MailChimp has a plugin that makes it possible, Constant Contact seems to have a partnership with EZ Texting and with EMMA I couldn’t quickly find one partner but a few options that may do texting. SO the answer is yes and no – through partnerships they are able to do it but not on their own.

Someone had asked about adding clickable images to a Facebook Page; I wanted to follow up. Turns out there isn’t a quick and easy way to do it. I found an article that outlined my suggestion, which was to create an article outside of Facebook (maybe on your website) that uses an image – then when you share that link the image (from your website) should get pulled into the Facebook post.

I mentioned a site that will check your website’s ADA compliance and we use a checklist to help follow along. Otherwise you can see the video and access the presentation below. On June 17 we are going to talk about the ins and outs of using Facebook for a small business.

Today we looked at strategic planning for online marketing. I think the most important step is figuring out what you want to do and how you’re going to measure it. (There’s a worksheet that goes with the class.) You can learn more below:

The process is simple and the website walks you through the steps. At some point, Google will ask you to verify your association to the business. They will ask you to do that by sending you a text or recorded message with a code if your business is listed in a business directory such as the old phonebook white pages. If they cannot find an “official” phone for you, they will send a postcard to your business address. BUT you can complete the registration before you verify.

Here’s what you’ll want to have at your fingertips to get it done quickly.

• Name and address
• Business hours
• Images (jpg or png format):
  • logo, profile – need to be at least 250 px tall and wide
  • cover photo – a larger image, perhaps of your shop or employees
  • Option for more photos – choose what you’ most like you customers to see

the social sharing of content that occurs outside of what can be measured by Web analytics programs. This mostly occurs when a link is sent via online chat or email, rather than shared over a social media platform, from which referrals can be measured.

It’s important to folks who track the impact of social media activity. I just read a report from Simply Measured dark social is a huge chuck of what we should be measuring…

• According to RadiumOne, 70% of all social sharing is dark.
• According the The Atlantic, more than 50% of social traffic is dark.
• According to InsideSocial data, more than 50% of digital sales can be dark for consumer products.

So how can you track the dark social?

• Make it easy to share content through easier-to-track share buttons
• Use trackable links on shared/sharable items
• Dive into stats of individual pages on your site and peruse “direct traffic” it might help you unearth some interesting mentions and unknown champions (or non-champions) of your business
• Search for your name (company, product or service) on Google – see what comes up. Again it might help you find something interesting – good and bad.

1. Click Edit Profile.
2. Click Details About You.
3. Click Add a nickname, a birth name… below Other Names.
4. Select the type of name you want to add next to Name Type.
5. Enter your other name.
6. Check Show at top of profile to have your other name shown next to your full name at the top of your profile.
7. Click Save.

Private Photo Vault allows you to import photos into albums and hide them behind a PIN lock. Beyond basic password protection, the app has two other bonus features called “break-in report” and “decoy password.” If someone tries to enter the app, it will secretly take a photo of the person and log their GPS location so you can see who was trying to access your private photos. You also have the option to set up a decoy password that launches a different set of pictures.

Hidden-photo vaults, such as Calculator% (looks like calculator app), Keep Safe, Private Photo Vault, and Best Secret Folder, are places to keep photos out of view from a prying parent or friend (there are many more if you Google or type in secret photo on the app store). They share key features, including:

• requiring a password for access
• hiding their true purpose (Fake calculator apps actually do function as a calculator but double as a way to input a secret code and stash secret pictures.)
• sounding an alarm or snapping a picture when accessed to catch anyone trying to break

To check and see if they have these apps:  on iPhones go into Settings -> Privacy -> Camera to see which apps have used the camera. This will reveal any camera apps disguised as something else.
