We’re all moved by music in some way or another, whether that be in the ass-shaking region or touched by heart-wrenching lyrics, but could the tunes spinning on your record player, walkman, or speakers move one to be a hero? Much like our fabled superheroes, recording artists wield great responsibility and can just as easily save lives. Billy’s newest series explores the relationship between real heroism and fantasy, though in real life we never got Billy Idol riding a giant seahorse so maybe comic books have the edge in that respect.

Adidas's 'Quick Family' Commercial: A$AP Rocky, John Wall, Damon Lillard & Jrue Holiday Get Down...

Sneakers are my passion, and I love them so. Over 200 pairs in my current collection, and countless pairs have come and gone over the years. One company I have always admired but only owned a handful of shoes from would be Adidas. I am not a huge fan of the look of their kicks, but I have always loved there marketing campaigns. This is the company that embraced hip hop and ran with it when Run DMC decided to rock their Adidas with no laces, long before any other major company wanted to fuck with hip hop. So when I see a great commercial, I gotta show it love. A$AP Rocky is one of the best new rappers making music right now, and he is the featured artist in a new commercial featuring NBA players John Wall, Damon Lillard & Jrue Holiday. These three are supreme young talents and they feature some crazy moves in the Adidas CrazyQuick model. The sneakers aren't that great looking to rock fashion wise (sorry, not for me) but look to be a good balling shoe... and the commercial is cool as hell. Enjoy the full video after the jump...

F.A.C.T.S. - The Comic Book Convention That Gets Cosplay Right.... And You Probably Never Heard Of!!!!

I am a huge admirer of Cosplay. The reason why I say admirer as opposed to lover is because I like to look at Cosplay but just know that I don't have the gumption or tact to pull off a great costume. In this day and age Cosplay has gotten extremely detailed and so well done that it is being considered an art form. Anytime there is a convention or comic con in the US we see tons of geeks websites posting awesome Cosplay pics. But I was sent a pic from a con (Thanks Fletch!) that takes place in Belgium and these guys get Cosplay right... especially Ninja Turtle Cosplay! The F.A.C.T.S. convention takes place every year in October (you can find information by clicking here) and I was lucky to get a glimpse into what went on in 2012 through the pics of Deviant Art photographer Killing Raptor . These are absolutely fantastic... and they are sending the Tumblr world into a frenzy!!! While most of the geeks who came across these on their Tumblr feeds instantly did a Google search to try and figure out where they could buy them from, it seems that these are merely concept pieces designed by Deviant Artist SevenThirtyTwo. 'Judge Minty' - A Judge Dredd Fan Film That Will Blow Your Mind...

I am a huge Judge Dredd fan... have been since the days of the 2000 A.D. comic and the abomination that was the Sylvester Stallone film. Like O.G., triple O.G. status. I really liked the Karl urban vehicle last year as well... even if no one else went to go see it in the theaters. So when I came across a fantastic fan film that featured 27 minutes of Mega City madness over on Bloody Pit of Rod, I just knew I would have to post it here on CCD for all my fellow Dredders... This movie is excellent, and is done with the full permission of the rights owners... which is really rare when it comes to fan films. 100 Days Of Monsters by Patrick Carson Sparrow

I love when I come across great artists and there fantastic work, but I even love it more when they come recommended from a good friend and have an ambitious project in the works. Artist Patrick Carson Sparrow is one of those cases... my main man Johnny from Freddy In Space has been singing his praises for years, as most of his art is horror themed. But his recent '100 monsters in 100 days' project has really captured my attention. Sparrow just decided to do 100 sketches of his favorite monsters, creatures, and killers and post 1 a day on his Facebook page. He has been remarkably efficient (most people who do these types of challenges fall off and fall behind) and he picks some great choices... not the run of the mill choices and the proof that Sparrow is the real deal when it comes to a horror fan. Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Gets It's First Promo - The Marvel Universe Invades A TV Set Near You!!!

Just picked up for next season, Marvel's show about S.H.I.E.L.D., the super secret spy organization in the Marvel comic book and movie universe. This seems like a great way for new characters and concepts to be introduced to the ravenous Marvel film fan base before showing up on the big screen in the summer blockbuster films. I am not sure if Coulson is alive or dead since I have no idea what time period this show is set in. I assume it comes after the first Avengers film. He could also be a LMD (life model decoy) which would be a great reveal to end Season 1. Check out more after the jump...

I hope they milk the corners of the Marvel Universe for cool and fun nuggets that will appeal to the fan boys in all of us and reward long time Marvel maniacs. There is room for a cool spy/superhero show with a sense of humor out there.

Astronaut Chris Hadfield Shows Us What Those Guys Do For Fun On The International Space Station... It's Bowie Time!!!!

I always wondered what astronauts do for fun up on those space ships and space stations. I am sure there are movies & video games, that sort of technology seems easy enough to supply given the technology involved in space travel. But karaoke... or better yet re-enacting a classic rock tune by making your own video? I would have never thought it possible. But astronaut Chris Hadfield has done just that, and boy has he picked just the right tune to do it. Hadfield takes on David Bowie's 'Space Oddity', a song that revolves around the communication between ground control on Earth and a lone astronaut named Major Tom who is on a mission in space (for those that live under a fucking rock... I am sure most of you knew what Space Oddity was about!). What a great idea, and it is executed perfectly. Gotta love the anti gravity shots, and the backgrounds of outer space and the stars. Captain Harlock: Space Pirate Is On It's Way....

I was never much into anime as it was presented on television in the late seventies. I hated the way the characters looked and talked when translated into English. I hated the hair over one eye 'look' and the big eyes of all the characters. Nothing seemed to make much sense. I could barely stand G-Force which I should have loved but there is just something about that style of animation that I never connected with. This new CGI Captain Harlock Space Pirate looks pretty cool, however. I love all the skull and pirate motifs and the action looks solid. You can't ever go wrong with giant space battles. And I actually like the look of the title character. I am sure that Captain Harlock has plenty of ennui and action to keep me interested this time around.

Fantastic Teaser Trailer For 'Gravity'

I am pretty much wetting my pants over this one. One Mr George Clooney and one Miss Sandra Bullock, trapped in space after a catastrophic shuttle accident? A high concept indeed but the effects look to be killer. I hope the story lives up to the visuals the show off in this trailer. But I have to admit that I found Sandra's Space Suit breathing annoying in a minute and a half. I can't imagine a whole movie. But George Clooney. Yeah... I Am Pretty Excited About 'Ender's Game'

The first trailer has been released for the 'Ender's Game' movie adaption and I must say that it does look great. I re-read the book a few months back and was sucked in to the story all over again like I was 13... and I was eager to see how they were going to adapt it. The cast is fantastic. Asa Butterfield is perfect for Ender (I loved him in Hugo), Haille Stanfield (killed it in True Grit), Abigail Breslin (always great), and luminaries like Harrison Ford, Ben Kingsley, and Viola Davis. But I am a bit concerned. They seem to have changed a few things (Mazer Rackman is a Maori tribesman and not a Jew? Why? Adn what is up with that final scene in the trailer? Please tell me that is not what I think it is...). But who knows? Maybe the changes will be for the best. Either way, the trailer is doing justice to the cause. Check it out after the jump...

Drive For Sega Genesis... Wait, What?

I love when modern TV shows and films are given the 8 bit Nintendo/ 16 bit Sega/Super Nintendo treatment. It is old hat now, but still pretty cool. Youtuber Gunderson Munderson seems to have nailed it with his rendition of one of my more recent favorite films, Drive. He gets the vibe of the movie down with his buildings, and with his music choice (which, according to his notes on the Youtube vid was created with the same Yamaha music emulator that was used for all Genesis games). What Type Of Geek Are You???

There are many different kind of geeks out there... that is not debatable. The thing that makes geeks so cool is their love of 'certain' specific things. They may overlap, but no real geek is an across the board geek. They specialize. Take Scott Johnson's '56 Geeks' poster as an example. Johnson uses graphics to illustrate 56 types of geeks and how they usually appear (or would like to appear if they had their druthers!). The Cosplay, Tron & Apple geeks are my faves. I fit in about 10 of these categories for sure. This is a great poster, but Johnson has much more cool shit over at his Frogpants store for sale. This one goes for 12.99. RIP Ray Harryhausen - June 29th, 1920 - May 7th, 2013

Good things always seemed to be book ended by bad things and vice versa, right? At around 6 pm on May 7th I was en route to the hospital... but for all the right reasons. My sister in law Kate and her husband Rich (two of my favorite people in the world) were on the way to having their first child. As we sat there, eagerly anticipating the arrival of little Richie, we had nothing but time on our hands. I sat on my tablet and surfed the Net, looking at the many websites that I peruse on a daily basis. I stumbled upon an article that brought me down instantly... Ray Harryhausen was dead at age 92. Fuck. At some a great moment of my life, a moment of pure joy for my family, all I could do was think how sad it was to lose a true talent like Harryhausen. Sure, he had lived a very full and excellent life. Sure, he has been heaped with praise both critically and from his peers for decades. These are things that should make you smile when you think about someone after they pass. But I immediately thought back to my early childhood, Clash of the Titans, and how a certain effects guy changed my life forever...

This was the model my pops had...

Back in the early 80s my pops had one of those top loading VCRs that was bigger and heavier than my current 42 inch television. This thing looked like a microwave. But it had magic in it... magic of the movies. My dad could just throw a tape in there, and any movie we wanted to watch would just begin... like magic. I was fascinated by this, especially since my Dad was priming me to be a movie buff that I would become by taking me to the cinema and exposing me to as many films as possible. It was around this time that my Dad popped in a film that would forever change my life: Clash of the Titans.

Clash was just insane. It featured a cast of luminaries (Laurence Oliver, Maggie Smith, Ursula Andress, Burgess Meredith), a buff young star in Harry Hamlin, and it had some of the coolest monsters I have ever seen before or since. Yeah, special effects are fantastic now a days and monsters look great. But there was something about all the creatures in this movie that just sucked me in. Calibos, Medusa, Bebu the owl, Diokilos the killer dog, The giant and The Kraken are all just fantastic... fan-fucking-tastic. Pegasus was just so amazing to watch. The creations of Harryhausen were just magnificent and looking back on them they are even more special because they shouldn't have even existed....

Why shouldn't have they existed you ask? Harryhaussen had been using his split screen 'Dyna-motion' techniques for years, on films like Mighty Joe Young, The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms, and the Sinbad films. They always went over gangbusters. But everything changed in 1977 with a little movie called Star Wars. Lucas would inadvertently start a technological revolution in film, one that would continue with Donner's Superman films, Ridley Scott's Alien, and many more films in the future. Harryhausen's techniques were quickly becoming the "old" way to do things... and it was clear that after years and years of doing things 'the Harryhausen way' he wasn't going to change. So Clash would become Harryhausen's last feature film that he worked on... and his tour de force if you ask me. It was like one last hurrah for Harryhausen, one that he deserved. Talk about going out on a high note....

So on this day that I welcomed my first nephew into the world, we lost a guy who truly changed my movie viewing life forever. This guy's work has stuck with me for quite a while, and always will. I have shared these films with my son, and he loves them too (in truth, he thinks the old Clash is pretty boring but loves all the creature scenes... he wanted more creature scenes!). But given the fact that Richie Jones entered this world on the day that Harryhausen went out, I feel like it is my duty to share Clash with him in the future. RIP Ray... enjoy heaven with your boy Ray Bradbury and look out for my buddy Sean Hartter while your up there. He loved your work too, and he has some crazy casting ideas for movies of the past taht you might love....

I found these bad boys over at Cal's Canadian Cave of Cool, and boy are they fantastic. They take some of the best members of the Justice League of America and uses some key quotes from the characters history. Most of the quotes come from the comics (the issue #'s are cited... cool), but Batman's comes from The Dark Knight Rises. These are great posters. Sketch Lottery Goes Green... Lantern That Is!!!!

The gang over at Sketch Lottery are really making me proud. These guys are repping hard, and they are knocking out various topics that they chose to take on with Babe Ruth like efficiency. They don't really do the basics, they take on lesser known characters like Power Lords and Bufkin from Fables. But honestly, the thing I like the most about this collective has to be the various mediums that they present their weekly topics in. You have everything from 8 bit GIFs to full on paintings... you couldn't run as much of a gamut as these guys do. This week they are going a bit more traditional, albeit still staying abstract. They are taking on Green Lantern. Now I know first instinct is to say that Green Lantern is a mainstream character, but honestly that really is not the case. He is a second tier character in the Justice League, and the bombing of the Ryan Reynolds movie didn't do the character any favors to boost his popularity. So far we only have three entries for this character, but I am sure there will be many more before the entry closes on 5/12. 'The World's End' Gets New Posters... And I Am getting More Excited By The Day!!!!

But I am getting even more excited when I see the newest promotional materials being issued for the movie. I am getting a very spacey, galactic feel to these pics... and that plays into the alien twist that has been rumored to plague the protagonists, who are on a quest to complete a 12 bar pub crawl that they had failed on when they were younger. The A to Z Blogger Challenge 2013 - Recapped & Revisited

I hate a great time participating in this years 2013 A to Z Blogger Challenge, a challenge that was very fun to complete. I joined almost 2,000 other blogs in doing 26 posts from Monday through Saturday during the month of April. I chose to go with a theme for the entire challenge. Since each day was a designated letter (Day 1 - A, Day 2 - B, etc) I decided to pick a movie starting with that letter and then do a pictorial run of the hottest female in the film. New CinemaCon Footage Of 'The Wolverine'

I think this will be one of the sweetest rides of the summer. Great story combined with the finest action adventure effects the movies can create these days. The location is fresh and makes Logan the outsider - the position that he is most comfortable fighting back from. I like that Yukio has a large part in this film as she did in the original mini-series - which is something else that you should check out before July 12th.

Adventure Time Monopoly

I am completely ODing on Adventure Time Season 1 on Netflix, so when I came across these cool ass sketches from artist Steve Wolfhard (the storyboard artists for Adventure Time) for game pieces for an AT Monoply set. He didn't even know that the actual game was going into production and then he found out that not only did it come out, but they used 5 of his token designs for the game. Marvel Vs Capcom 3: Fate Of Two Worlds Fanart by Steamboy 33

I have many fantastic memories of playing Marvel vs Capcom & Marvel vs Capcom 2 with my good buddy Joe Fletch over the years. The highlights definitely coming during the year we lived together at Manhattan College, where we played the Dreamcast version of the game on giant arcade controllers. More often than not (ok, ok... always) Fletch handed me my ass. Repeatedly. But the really cool thing about it all was that because Fletch was so fucking fantastic he made me pretty decent. To this day I can't pass by a MvsC2 machine and not pump a few quarters in. So I was really excited to see Marvel vs Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds get a release... but unfortunately I have never played it. But it doesn't mean I can't admire some awesome digital fan art from Deviant Artist Steamboy 33 featuring all the characters from the game. Marvel guys. Capcom guys. All of 'em! The A to Z Blogger Challenge: Day 26 - Z Is For Zack & Miri Make A Porno

So it all comes to an end... the 2013 A to Z Blogger Challenge comes to a halt! I have turned it up big time in my quest to bring you the hottest woman to star in some of my favorite movies, and the result is 26 classic posts featuring a lot of sexiness. So I figured it would only be right to use one of my all time favorite directors as teh final film... even if it is not his best. Zack & Miri Make A Porno is a hilarious comedy that features one of the greatest man/woman co starring roles that I have ever seen... Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks. Banks is a very pretty girl, but it's her comedic chops are what allow her to shine next to the always bright Seth Rogen. And Smith gets back to his small town Jersey sensibilities with this story. It reminds me a lot of his older wok. Plus, Justin Long & Brandon Routh completely steal the movie. One of the greatest cameos I have ever seen. RIP Sean Hartter: 11/6/73 - 4/27/13

I woke up on Saturday morning tired from a long night of working at the bar. I got home around 7 am, and fell asleep instantly. I woke up around 1 pm to my phone buzzing incessantly. Who the fuck was blowing me up so much? Turns out it was my close friend Jeff Bond, and he was bearing terrible news. "Is it true? Is Sean Hartter dead?". What? What the fuck... I had just been speaking with Sean the night before. at around 10pm on Friday night. He was sharing a story on Facebook about an interaction he had with a shitty nurse on his last hospital trip, and I was chiming in with some witty comments about what he should have said to her. That was the last time I would interact with the guy. A few hours later the man would pass away from a massive asthma attack. Huh... life is fucked up like that. How could this be it?

When I started CCD back in 2010 I decided that if I was going to feature any artists's work on the page than I would send them an email letting them know. I dropped Sean a line after I featured some of his work during our first All Horror Week back in October of 2010 . Sean got back to me and we became fast friends. I went on to feature Sean 40 more times here on CCD (this entry is number 42) in addition to the Inception piece. 40 times in 2 and a half years... way more than anyone else. And it wasn't because I was kissing up to someone I knew. I literally have been blown away by Sean's work since I first saw it. It was a no brainer to put his stuff up on CCD...

Over the past few years Sean and I grew even more friendly. He created a faux VHS box cover for a fake movie featuring the CCD family. This was buy far the coolest thing anyone has ever and probably will ever do for me and my humble website. I am forever great full to have been given the "Hartter Treatment". My boy created a piece of art that will live on forever... and now it has too.

At Christmas time I ordered a bunch of posters from Sean to give to my friends. I tried to order 10 posters, and Sean told me that he would send them... but that he wouldn't accept any money. I told him to fuck off and that if he didn't take my money I would tell his wife on him... and so he reluctantly agreed to accept payment. I bought posters for James West (Rocket Raccoon) Jeff Bond (Trick R Treat), Joe Fletch (Alien), Cal from teh Cave of Cool (Rom: Space Knight), Joey Esq (Sectaurs), Johnny from Freddy In Space (Near Dark), and even two for myself (the CCD VHS and The Omen print he did exclusively for CCD). But the most special poster I bought was for my buddy Tommy Lombardozzi. Tommy was a fellow artists and also became friendly with Sean through CCD. They collaborated on a very cool piece, an image of the Jack Kirby monster Goom. Tommy drew the beast, and Sean colored it. I bought it and hoped to give it to Tommy as a house warming gift after he got his apartment back (it was destroyed in Hurricane Sandy). Now I am just sad because it is the only time these guys will collaborate on something great...

I am so confused by losing this guy named Hartter. We planned on opening a booth together at this years 2013 NY Comic Con on the big floor. We were going all in. I believed in his work, and he believed in us enough to agree to partner up. We were going to do it... big. And Sean was just starting to get the proper due he deserved from mainstream (ie: paying folks) at the time of his death. This really sucks. I was looking so forward to enjoying Sean's company, making some money, and getting his artwork up on the walls of as many people as possible. That is what it is all about....

I will mourn my buddy's passing, and I especially sorry for the loss his wife Allison and his boys Griffin & Gabe have to endure.
