The title of this post goes out to all my true Ghostbuster fans. But this mockumentary concept is intriguing to say the least. Following the in the vein of Room 237, Spook Central takes a look behind the "real" meaning of certain aspects of what is probably my favorite 80s comedies. I would totally watch the shit outta this... Eastbound & Down & Boardwalk Empire Are Close To Returning...

I am a huge fan of many HBO shows, most notably Game of Thrones which just finished up a stellar third season. With True Blood & The Newsroom on the horizon for the summer, we here at CCD are looking a bit further down the road to see what is coming next. Boardwalk Empire & Eastbound & Down are two of my faves, and they will be buoying the fall lineup this year. The Kenny powers teaser is short and sweet, but it does get me ready for some more nuttiness from my favorite Merman. The Boardwalk Empire trailer is short as well, but we get a ton of footage and the first look at Jeffery Wright as Dr. Narcisse. I for one can't wait! Eastbound & Down is back on September 29th and Boardwalk Empire is back on September 8th. Check out the trailers after the jump....

The Many Shields Of Superman

In honor of the release of the Man of Steel tonight, I have found an excellent infographic detailing the many "S" symbols of Superman's costume.

Here’s another infographic I did for HalloweenCostumes.com, this time illustrating the history of the emblem on Superman’s chest.

Until I researched this, I had no idea just how many variations the shield went through in its first five years, before they settled on the classic design that went mostly unchanged for over five decades.

The North Remembers... And Now You Can Remember Too!!!!

With Season 3 coming to an epic ending this week over on HBO (how can they have made the Red Wedding even more brutal than the books... holy shit!) I am very eager to finally get to Book # 5 in the series, Dance With Dragons. I also feel like George R R Martin is also under pressure to get the long await Book # 6 out... finally. But the thing I love about this series getting so popular has to be some of the cool ass fan art that is invading the interwebs since it has gained so much popularity. Take these really cool House Sigil pictures that were posted over at Unreality. These are all a bit similar (why do they all have dragons in them? That doesn't make much sense.) but they are all really cool looking. I especially like the way the helmets are used. Pretty good stuff. Jon Marco's 'Rhianna' Music Video Is Pretty Amazing...

... Even if the song is absolutely shit. I don't really know much about Jon Marco the musician... the guy seems to have an OK voice but this song is not really my cup of tea. But he uses some green screen magic and fantastic editing to take a magnificent journey through the best movies of the late 70s and early 80s while chasing his fantasy girl. Really cool concept that is executed extremely well despite the fact that they probably had a non existent budget. I don't know about the lyrics, but the video will put a smile on the face of any fan of these great generation of movies. Check out the video after the jump...

William Shatner Makes Everything Better... Even Where The Wild Things Are!!!!

William Shatner is one of those legendary actors who can't do any wrong any more. They might have had ups and downs throughout their careers, and missteps as well... but they have reached that level of untouchable status that makes them bulletproof. And then they do things that add to their legend... things like Shatner did the other day at the Denver Comic Con. Shatty sat down with a group of young kids and read them Where The Wild Things Are aloud to them. Captain Kirk himself... using his trademark humor and nuttiness to its fullest extent. But the thing that makes this video so great has to be the fact that he looks like he is enjoying himself so much. Those kids are having fun too... they might not fully realize who it is talking at them, but someday it will be a story for them to tell. He was not Captain Kirk or Mr. Shatner that day... he was just Billy!!! Great tidbit that truly made me smile. Check out the full video after the jump...

“Grayson: Earth One” season one is a non profit six episode season dedicated to exploring the origin story of the DC character known as Nightwing — but with a twist. The twist being that Richard Grayson has never had the good fortune of being adopted as a child by Bruce Wayne, thus never becoming the boy wonder. Instead, we have a Richard Grayson that had to fend for himself on the unforgiving streets of Gotham and, even worse, the streets of Bludhaven. A character that has to overcome years of dog eat dog mentality to become a selfless and kind individual. To ultimately fulfill his destiny and become a HERO.

Of course, changing that single event within Richard Grayson’s life sends a ripple across the entire DC universe. It changes the history of characters such as Bruce Wayne, Barbara Gordon, Helena Bertinelli and their adversaries too.

I enjoyed this. The Batman looked a little funny around his cowl and that lessens the effect of his appearance. Aside from that I liked this first episode. The changes they made make sense and I hope to see how this rocker becomes a hero. I could see this on the CW following ARROW.

The Best Cosplay From The 2013 Philly Wizard World Comic Con

One of the coolest parts about comic cons has to be the Cosplay. People are dressing up more and more, and the costumes are getting way more detailed and intricate. There is a whole cottage industry wrapped around selling costume components and accessories, and even photographing cosplayers professionally. But in the end it comes down to your favorite fictional comic characters being brought to life right in front of your eyes. So here are about 60 pics that I took from my day over at the 2013 Philly Wizard World Comic Con. Now I must preface this by saying that I am not as great a photographer as Joe Fletch (our resident con photographer was on the disabled list with a knee injury) and I was also in the company of a 10 year old who I had to keep an eye on. So I did the best I could. These cosplayers really did their thing, so I gotta show them some love. Hope you enjoy them all...

L'Amour Supreme Takes Over Mishka LA & Busts Out His Air Brush....

I am a huge fan of the Mishka clothing line, or MNWKA if you go by their interesting spelling of the company name. I have owned various hats and even a bag from the company for a couple of years. I love their shirts (just wish they offered a XXXL option... c'mon, fat kids need fresh gear too!). One of their frequent collaborators, L'Amour Supreme, decided to drop in to the Mishka LA store and set up an airbrush stand... and lets just say there were some really interesting designs turned out. Mishka is a company that has many signature monster characters (the various cyclops, eyeball, and monster ball characters appear on tons of their stuff) and Lamour decided to incorporate these staples into some unique pieces. Now he has taken on the original trilogy and he means business with these faux paperback covers. I really love the pics, but its the small details like the titles that he comes up with that make these so cool. Wizard World Philly 2013: The Day In Review!!!!

One of the coolest things about running this blog has to be a few of the small perks that I get. One of these are press passes to cool events, mainly comic cons and the such. But I have never ventured out of the immediate NY/NJ area to cover an event. That all changed last Friday when I received passes to cover the 2013 Wizard World Philly Comic Con. My man Jerry Milani hooked Joe Fletch & I up with some passes, and we planned a road trip! Unfortunately, Joe suffered a bit of a knee injury and had to bow out... so I decided to turn my one day trip down 95 South into a Father/Son day. And honestly, there was no better person to bring beside Mikey... since he knows more about comics than any other 10 year old I have ever met. So we got in the car and headed down to Philly... and boy was it a great day!

We arrived in Philly around noon and started the day off right: Headed straight to South St for a cheese steak lunch. I am a Pat's guy myself... but Mikey liked the look of Geno's sign better. So we played a quick game of Rock, Paper, Scissors and the kid won. So Geno's it was...

To quote my main man Cal after I published these photos on Facebook "It is miraculous to see a boy with his first cheese steak. That is not a tear in my eye, that's just dust..." I loved watching him eat his first cheese steak... even if it was from Geno's.

We started out for the convention center, and met Jerry at check in. He gave us our passes, and hooked Mikey up with a kid badge (I'll get into that later) and we hit the floor. The Philly show floor is nice sized... not nearly as big as the NY Comic Con at the Javits, but bigger than past Wizard Cons I have attended in NYC. I had one day to conquer the floor... 7 solid hours. And we were gonna do it! There were a ton of cool celebrities appearing in the back at the designated autograph booths (Stan Lee, Dean Cain, Henry Winkler, Sara Jean Underwood, a Firefly cast reunion, etc), but that isn't really my thing. So I immediately threw myself into the two things I love the most at cons: Vendors & Artists Tables.

I made some great scores and met some cool artists (posts on individual artists will follow in the next few days), especially a score of older loose comics that I have been trying to purchase for a while from a guy selling them 5 for a dollar. I got a #1 Captain Carrot, a #1 Tick, and a shit ton of Sandman issues as I continue to try and put together Neil Gaiman's 80 issue run. I think i grabbed about 40 books in all, and it cost me under 5 bucks. I also grabbed a few gift issues for my boys... Tommy & Cal, you can be expecting some gifts soon!

I also bought a bunch of prints from Scott Derby, met one of my favorite artists in Tom Whalen, and picked up a few wrestling toys for Mikey. We also participated in a really cool Man of Steel/Norton Anti-Virus interactive display that was there to promote the movie. It was a really cool smart phone enabled information hunt, and it was one of the better cross over interactive displays I have ever seen:

Mikey and I also got to do something really cool... we took pictures driving the 1966 Batmobile! They had a cowl and everything... sick! Best 10 bucks I ever spent:

Definitely one of the highlights in the day. Such a great time. There were also some really cool cosplayers (I have a whole post with 65+ pics coming tomorrow), and great groups like the Philadelphia Ghost Busters and the Philly Mandalorian Group. They had some great props on display:

It was a truly great experience. I had so much fun sharing it with my son. Stay tuned over the next few days for much more from the floor of the 2013 Philly Wizard Con. On the way off the floor, we were stopped by a vendor who noticed Mikey's kids badge. He said he was entitled to a print for free, and I thought that was so cool. Jerry's badge gift to Mikey turned into a very cool 11x14 print featuring 9 cool character potraits... just another cool gift for my boy!

To finish off the night, before we left Philly, we had one more stop to make. I wasn't leaving without a Pat's Cheese Steak! So for dinner, just 8 hours after his first cheese steak, Mikey & I ate another one for dinner... From Pat's Famous!!!!

Comic Book Characters Take Over Children Book Favorites

I came across these awesome mash ups over at The Line It Is Drawn, Comic Book Resources's excellent artist page where they choose a topic and post the results sent in to them. In the #141 edition of the column they decided to sub in popular (and more obscure) comic book characters with famous lead characters in children's books. Think Galactus as The Hungry Caterpillar, or Green Lantern's & Ham instead of Green Eggs and Ham... How great of an idea is this? Cool 'Man of Steel' Featurette

This very well produced feature on the upcoming Man of Steel movie is the very reason why the Internet is so cool for me. It gives me access to such great pieces that are especially interesting when the product they are showing off is something I am already genetically primed to love. There is no way that 'Man of Steel' won't be the biggest hit of the summer. I am sure the movie will bring me to tears like this feature did at times. The Golden Age of the superhero movie continues.

For the first time we are getting and extended look at all various Yaegers in action as they beat down some alien monster scum. If the final scene set in the middle of a lighted city doesn't make you wet your pants a little then you are a too jaded a movie fan, my friend. How can you not love watching a giant robot dragging a ten ton boat behind it. WOW. Pacific Rim will be what Transformers could only dream of being. Indris Elba's speech in the middle of this trailer is particularly inspiring. I know if he asked me I would sign up to drive one of these robot beauties.

The Hangover 3: Could This Be The Death of The Sequel As We Know It ??? - A Rant By Mike CCD

Last night was setting up to be one of the best nights I had planned in a while. It started out with L & B pizza for dinner. Any night that includes L & B is a great night... but it was set up to get even better. Tara and I had tickets to go see The Hangover 3... and we couldn't be more excited! I was a huge fan of the first film in the series and is one of Tara & I's earliest movie memories. We laughed so hard in that film that I almost choked to death... literally. So when the second movie came out last year, we were there opening night... and were promptly disappointed. We both really didn't like the second film. It was a complete re-hash of the first film in every which way: They got drugged again? The baby replaced by the monkey? Chow in the freezer instead of the trunk? Teddy missing instead of Doug? Paul Giamatti giving the gang deadlines instead of Chow? It was a complete re-do, and not nearly done as well. Now I will say that upon further viewings of The Hangover II I have come to appreciate it. It is still unoriginal and kinda dumb... but it does have some funny parts. I can watch it and smile. Not nearly as good as the original, but a decent comedy. But The Hangover 3? Pure shit. I have never seen a more unfunny film in my life... especially one that was poised to be so great. So is this the death of the sequel craze as we know it???

Listen, I am a realist. I know Hollywood is not going to stop making sequels. They are cash cows. Instant money on a proven product. The demand is created by the fans who love the original. But they should be saved for action, sci fi & comic book type movies... not comedies and dramas. No fucking reason for it at all. Why you ask? here are a few reasons:

What a sequel is needed for...

1) Action, Sci Fi & Comic Book movies are telling sweeping , multi-part stories that may require more than one movie to tell. Especially if they are adapting a written work. Think of Star Wars... it is such a life long tale of characters (the prequels take Anakin from 5 year old to adult, the original trilogy take Luke from cornball teen to full fledged Jedi Knight). They couldn't be boxed into a 2.5 hour film. The Marvel films come to mind as well. Think of all the layers of the story that culminated in Avengers. Sequels are necessary to tell the full story. But a comedy? No... no fucking reason. Usually comedies are tied up nicely in a little bow... just like Hangover 1 was. why do we need to see more? What can it add?

2) Shock & surprise are what makes for the best moments of a comedy. so how do you capture magic in a bottle again? You really can't. My favorite moment of the first Hangover is when they first wake up from the blackout. The chicken roaming around the room. Alan falling all over the place. Stew face down on the marble floor. The tiger in the bathroom. The chaos of the room and them having no fucking idea what happened. And then the baby crying out... it was a perfect 4 minutes, and set up the whole fucking movie by saying "how can it have gotten this bad in just one night?". A perfect moment created by Todd Phillips. But when it happened in the second film, it was like "yeah.. really?". Alan's head was shaved, Stew had the face tattoo... it was amped up a notch and a bit darker, but really it was nowhere near as moving as the first scene. It is a played out joke... and has no such effect. Does it do the job and get the movie started? Yeah, sure... but it does nothing to build momentum. So why bother?

Oh look, we are in an elevator for the third straight movie...

3) After a while people just aren't funny when you know their shtick. In the first movie I was blown away by Alan's stupidity and childlike behavior. He was hysterical for me. By the third movie, it becomes stupid. The movie opens with him driving down the freeway with a giraffe in a trailer. It wasn't shocking or funny... just kinda dumb. Leslie Chow was one of the funniest cameo characters ever created in the history of cinema. But by the third film he is a caricature of himself, which was originally an over the top caricature. How many times is Ed Helms going to screech in terror? We get it, your a dentist and easy scared because your the timid one. And how many times is Bradley Cooper going to get hit and scream out "Awww, what the fuck?". He is always getting the physical brunt of the gang's nonsense and always says the same fucking thing. You gotta be a bit more creative in writing dialogue than a simple catch phrase like that, no? And how many times is Doug going to be missing/out of the action? It is just dumb at this point. And could you waste anymore fantastic actors in cameos? Paul Giamatti in the second one and John Goodman in the third are both the exact same character, both of whom are nothing compared to the hysterical Chow of the the first film that they are supposed to be emulating. It is lazy, unoriginal, and a clear cash grab by the studio and the filmmaker/writers/actors. And frankly, it sucks.

The Emperor is not impressed, and neither were we...

I was sitting there as the film opened and I was super excited. The prison break sequence had me on the edge of my seat and I was ready for something hysterical. All I got was a melodrama that provided me with a few chuckles at best. To call this a comedy is an insult to any comedy ever written. It was plain unfunny, wack, and killed any good will that the characters gained in the first two films. It is not even close to the second film... and the second film is a shell of the first film. So how do you even compare the first film to the third one. You can't. I hope Hollywood takes a good hard look at this and realizes that the sequel should be used only in certain circumstances. Comedies should never be one of them. I saw Iron Man 3 last week and I loved it. sequels can be good when done well. Thanks for fucking up a classic comedy Hollywood.... now lets focus on trying to get more original comedies like the original Hangover made in the future!!!

"It's The Final Countdown..." - Arrested Development Season 4 Goes Live in 3,2,1...

I think I have been doing a pretty good job by my standards of not over-hyping the arrival of Season 4 of Arrested Development on Netflix. No one is more excited than me, and I have just finished a marathon re-watch of the shows 3 seasons as well as celebrated with Tommy Lombardozzi & Cousin Stevie in our first annual "Arrested Development Luncheon" complete with chocolate covered bananas and seals wearing ties (OK, maybe there were no seals in ties... but who cares really?). So now that we are only three days away from the shows new season going live on May 26th, I think it may be time to celebrate just how excited I really am. I am so excited, I think I just Blue myself (hahaha... inside jokes abound). So lets just get to the meat and potatoes of it all... here is the Season 4 extended trailer! Complete with Buster's hook hand, Pop Pop's hi jinks George Michael's awkwardness, martial bliss between Lindsay and Tobias, Gob performing an illusion in a toga, Lucille being psychologically terrifying, and Michael just being Michael aka taking everyone's bullshit and cleaning it up!!!! The Movies Of Stanley Kubrick

Of all of these, my favorites are Dr. Strangelove and the first half of Full Metal Jacket. I have to admit that I have never seen The Shining and got through about ten minutes of Eyes Wide Shut. Clockwork Orange freaks the hell out of me still but so did the novel it's based on. Barry Lyndon did nothing for me because I always have hated Ryan O'Neil. 2001? I hate to say I needed to see 2010 to fully get what was going on which made A Space Odyssey so much more enjoyable to watch the second or third time around.

Poster art is running wild. There are prints galore available from many artists all over the 'Net featuring to many subjects to count. But it doesn't change the fact that there is so much to enjoy, and at the end of the day the more cool nerdy fan art that exists out there, the better! Take Matt Ferguson's new posters for Star Trek: Into Darkness. These are simplistic but detailed, beautifully colored and designed. Ferguson is a stud, and it shows in this three poster series. I know there is a lot out there, but if it means more work like Ferguson's than I am all for it... Post-Punk New Wave Super Friends by Billy the Butcher

We’re all moved by music in some way or another, whether that be in the ass-shaking region or touched by heart-wrenching lyrics, but could the tunes spinning on your record player, walkman, or speakers move one to be a hero? Much like our fabled superheroes, recording artists wield great responsibility and can just as easily save lives. Billy’s newest series explores the relationship between real heroism and fantasy, though in real life we never got Billy Idol riding a giant seahorse so maybe comic books have the edge in that respect.

Adidas's 'Quick Family' Commercial: A$AP Rocky, John Wall, Damon Lillard & Jrue Holiday Get Down...

Sneakers are my passion, and I love them so. Over 200 pairs in my current collection, and countless pairs have come and gone over the years. One company I have always admired but only owned a handful of shoes from would be Adidas. I am not a huge fan of the look of their kicks, but I have always loved there marketing campaigns. This is the company that embraced hip hop and ran with it when Run DMC decided to rock their Adidas with no laces, long before any other major company wanted to fuck with hip hop. So when I see a great commercial, I gotta show it love. A$AP Rocky is one of the best new rappers making music right now, and he is the featured artist in a new commercial featuring NBA players John Wall, Damon Lillard & Jrue Holiday. These three are supreme young talents and they feature some crazy moves in the Adidas CrazyQuick model. The sneakers aren't that great looking to rock fashion wise (sorry, not for me) but look to be a good balling shoe... and the commercial is cool as hell. Enjoy the full video after the jump...

F.A.C.T.S. - The Comic Book Convention That Gets Cosplay Right.... And You Probably Never Heard Of!!!!

I am a huge admirer of Cosplay. The reason why I say admirer as opposed to lover is because I like to look at Cosplay but just know that I don't have the gumption or tact to pull off a great costume. In this day and age Cosplay has gotten extremely detailed and so well done that it is being considered an art form. Anytime there is a convention or comic con in the US we see tons of geeks websites posting awesome Cosplay pics. But I was sent a pic from a con (Thanks Fletch!) that takes place in Belgium and these guys get Cosplay right... especially Ninja Turtle Cosplay! The F.A.C.T.S. convention takes place every year in October (you can find information by clicking here) and I was lucky to get a glimpse into what went on in 2012 through the pics of Deviant Art photographer Killing Raptor . These are absolutely fantastic... and they are sending the Tumblr world into a frenzy!!! While most of the geeks who came across these on their Tumblr feeds instantly did a Google search to try and figure out where they could buy them from, it seems that these are merely concept pieces designed by Deviant Artist SevenThirtyTwo. They are absolutely fantastic and I hope that one day they end up in some form of production. I think they are all great, but the Nightwing and Blue Beetle ones are the best. Artists have many different mediums that they can choose to work in. That what makes art so fucking cool... it is all up to the artist to figure out a way to express themselves. Take Mike Alcantara for example. He is a lover of comics... so he decided to use said comics to create collages in homage to the comic characters he loves.
