You can smile about the sterotypical weirdnesses of Japan as much as you want (like the rumour, that they just get into other countries to carry around their camera and make vacation at home by looking at the images they made), but when they do something, they do it right. One example: One would consider that that an 10 minute film music would be edited down in length and complexity to play it live. Well ... not really. Just listen to the studio version and the live version of Kenji Kawais "Kugutsuuta kagirohi ha yomi ni matamu to" from the "GitS2 - Innocence" soundtrack. They simply played the studio version - live. Virtually identical. Awesome.

A reader with much better eyes than mine (think i should really visit my ophthalmologist) found an interesting reference to Solaris/SunOS in the new Tron Legacy Trailer:

It's at 1:12 in the trailer. SolarisOS 4.0.1 Generic_50203-0un4m i386 Unknown.Unknown The architecture is interesting: sun4m. That's something in the range of a SPARCstation 4 to SPARCstation 20, several Lunchbox systems had the same architecture and finally SPARCserver 630MP, 670MP and 690MP were sun4m, too. The production of those systems started in 1989.

I know what i will do on December 16th ...

On Boxing Day i've used the opportunity to visit a cinema with a really good friend of mine in Oldenburg. Obviously the choice felt to Avatar. And i have to admit, that i'm really impressed. Tron was one of my favorite movies in my youth. I assume i just looked Strange Days and the both movies of Ghost in the Shell that often. It looks like i´m knowing at least one movie i will look in 2010 or 2011. I just found the teaser trailer at Youtube.

A picture says more than thousand words, a film is worth thousand pictures, and some films are worth thousand other films. I stongly suggest invest the bandwidth of your internet access to view this movie. It´s HOME - a documentary made by Yann Arthus-Betrand. From a photographic view point this movie is nothing short from drop-dead gorgeous:

When you were really in doubt about the beauty of our Earth, how fast we destroy our Earth and how badly our home needs our help, you won´t have this doubts afterwards. A must-see. And at least in my case, it led to massive goosebumps ...

And now to something completely different: The actress Sophie Ward writes about the "joys" of filming sex scenes in "Love Scenes". Great article. So ... the next time you sit with your significant other in a cinema looking at such a ostensiblyromantic and amourous scene. It´s hard work and remember the words of Mrs Ward:

Love scenes, also known as sex scenes, are as inevitable for actors as death and taxes and held in roughly the same esteem.

It´s like christmas, the world just goes downhill when you don´t believe anymore that Santa Claus exits. Same with cinematographic love.

Rambo

Zumindestens Rambo - First Blood war aus meiner Sicht immer ein sehr unterschaetzer Film. Ich glaube, das liegt auch daran, das man Sylvester Stallone erst nach Copland auch mal zugetraut hat in einem Film mitzuspielen, der nicht nur aus plumper Zurschaustellung von Gewalt bestand. Das man eben primär auf die physische Erscheinung von Herrn Stallone geguckt hat, als denn auf die Geschichte, die dort erzaehlt wird. Und ob man es glaubt oder nicht, zumindestens der erste Teil erzaehlt eine Geschichte.

Nichtidentisches hat nun mit dem aeusserst lesenswerten und gelungenen Text "Rambology - Mit John J. Rambo durch die Dialektik der Aufklärung" diese dumpfe Ahnung untermauert.

Wow, i think Pixar wants to know it with Wall-E ... Jonathan Ive (you know, the Apple Design Guy) helped with the design of Eve, the female robot in the movie, and a few minutes ago, i´ve read that Peter Gabriel worked on parts of soundtrack.. Stunning.

No Country for Old Men

Es gibt ein gutes Kriterium, um die Herkunft eines Films zu bestimmen. Sind am Ende alle tot, dann war es ein japanischer Film. Ist der Held gebrochen, viele von den Guten und alle von den Boesen, dann ists ein europaeischer Film. Lebt der Held am Ende noch als strahlender Sieger, hat das Gesetz gewonnen, die Boesen sind alle tod (bis auf den obligatorischen Cliffhanger-Scheintoten) dann ist es ein amerikanischer Film. Wie passt dann aber bitte "No country for old men" in dieses Schema? Vielleicht sollte ich noch eine Kategorie fuer Filme der Coen-Brueder einführen.

Ich habe den Film gestern abend im Kino gesehen. Ich habe mir mal wieder eine gute Freundin ausgeliehen. Sehr schoen photographiert. Stellenweise vermute ich aber das die Vorfuehrer den Kontrastumfang bzw die Kontrastarmut des Materials nicht so im Griff hatten. Aber das ist mir schon haeufiger in jenem Kino aufgefallen. Die Geschichte ist interessant und bestimmte Werkzeuge sieht man nach diesem Film mit ganz anderen Augen. Die Verwendung dieses Werkzeuges haette ich eher in einem Film von Tarantino vermutet. Achja, Tommy Lee Jones ist wirklich sehr alt geworden.

Der Film lohnt sich. Auch wenn das Ende durch seine Abruptheit etwas verstoerend ist.

Star Trek XI

Christmas 2008 is a date to mark in you calendars. Star Trek XI will come into the theaters on this date. I hope, this film breaks with the tradition, that StarTreks with a odd number are bad movies, as StarTrek 10 broke with the tradition of good movies with an even number.

PS: Star Trek 8 First Contact is the best movie of the franchise in any case ...

Die Medien haben sich ja relativ viel darauf kapriziert, das George Clooney für diesen Film einiges Gewicht zugelegt hat. Aber eigentlich ist das das Nebensächlichste an diesem Film. Ich habe mir heute diesen Film mal angesehen, und war ziemlich erfreut: Im Jahre 4 nach WTC wurden politische Filme auch in den Vereinigten Staaten wieder möglich. Ich weiss von einer Kollegin, die diesen Film nicht so toll fand, das er kompliziert sei. Doch gerade das macht den Reiz dieses Films aus.

Die grundlegende Aussage des Films ist eben genau diese Komplexität. Man darf die Welt an einem Ende nicht manipulieren, und hoffen, das das am anderen Ende schon nicht auffällt. Man kann nicht folgenlos in die Geschicke der Welt eingreifen. Die Welt ist ein kompliziertes Gebilde aus komplizierten Elementen. Am Anfang ist es ein verlorener Oeldeal und am Ende kommt ein explodierter Tanker dabei heraus. Reaktion, Gegenreaktion und auf die Gegenreaktion, reagieren wieder andere mit einer Gegenreaktion. Ad infinitum.

Das die Welt genauso ist, eben kompliziert, dreckig und ohne klare Grenzen zwischen Gut und Böse, richtig und flasch, genau das vermag Syriana eindrucksvoll zu vermitteln.

Es ist hier der Krieg gegen die Drogen, nicht gegen den Terror, aber die Gefahren sind austauschbar, wenn es gilt, Angst in den Köpfen zu induzieren. Als Philip K. Dick die Geschichte schrieb, war Terror für Amerika noch ein ein europäisches Problem.

Jetzt habe ich es auch endlich mal geschafft, wieder einen Film von meiner "to view"-Liste zu streichen: V for Vendetta. Dystopisch. Bildgewaltig. Hintersinnig. Und auch wenn man nicht ein Parlamentsgebäude in die Luft jagen sollte, erinnert der Film doch daran, das man manchmal den Mund aufmachen sollte, damit die Bürgerrechte nicht schweigend in der Dunkelheit einer unbestimmten Angst untergehen. Das Vorbild sollte hier nicht V sein, sondern der Talkmaster oder das kleine bebrillte Kind.

Ich hatte ja vor kurzem die Gelegenheit 300 zu sehen. Ich habe dann doch nicht gewartet, bis der Streifen auf DVD kommt. Hm, ich weiss garnicht, was ihr habt .... ich fand man konnt herzlich darueber lachen. Insbesondere über Xerxes. Ich hätte mir in dem Moment auch gut vorstellen können, das Lilo Wanders vom Thron steigt.
