Community Service Event Announcement - CAPS Back to School Bash
Saturday, August 3, 2013
12-4 PM

The event will feature a school supply giveaway for up to 200 middle school & high school youth, a series of on site life skills workshops, activities that will promote awareness to health & fitness, craft stations for younger kids, food, music, and more.

The Back to School Bash is the perfect event for all ages and the entire family.

Families will need to meet low-income qualifications to receive supplies for children in the household. Supplies will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis. All interested parties must register at www.CAPSforSuccess.org to receive supplies.

In a continued effort to assist youth ages 11-18, @CAPSforSuccess is proud to sponsor our 2013 School Supply Drive. Individuals and companies are invited to sponsor a child in need of school supplies by making a monetary donation, gift card donation, or school supply donation no later than July 20.

$15 provides 1 child with one School Supply Kit
$30 provides 2 children with school supply Kit
$100 provides 7 children with school supply Kit

It’s back! We are proud to announce the return of our annual Hope & Hoops Basketball Tournament. The tournament is a Los Angeles based basketball tournament that has been held annually since 2011. Hope & Hoops feature 5 on 5 double elimination games and shootout contests. Prizes will be given to each winning team, and winners of the shootout contests. Food and refreshments will be provided for every participant.

Who Can Play
Hope & Hoops is designed so that anyone can play: male or female, young and old, short and tall, experienced or no experience at all. This year, the tournament is broken down into four divisions: Adult - Men, Adult - Women, Youth - High School, and Youth - 11-13. During the registration process, the team must select which division they would like to compete in. Each team is allowed 5 players.

Is your child making the right decisions?

The teenage years are filled with a myriad of choices and challenges. As adults, we know that from time-to-time, everyone experiences difficulty getting started on the path to success. Decisions we make ultimately determine the life we live and goal setting helps us separate our strengths from weaknesses and make realistic plans for improving our lives. This workshop helps youth decide how far they go in life by how much sustained effort they put into their goals and dreams, even when faced with obstacles.

This four-week workshop will cover:

Good vs. Bad Decisions
Decisions Youth Face on a Daily Basis
Developing Personal, Social, Educational & Career goals
Barriers & Overcoming Challenges

Many young people are living in the future. Their values, attitudes and behavior are more in line with the way the world will work in the future, than the way it works today. Although we don’t know what the future holds, we can’t help but to notice pivotal changes as each generation is produced.
In order to prepare our next generations for success, CAPS presents Project YOU, a free life skills workshop that transforms traditional values into a fun interactive experiences to help youth build habits that will encourage selfefficacy in life.
Through exercises and activities, the 4 week workshop will cover:
● Self Esteem & Confidence
● Social Skills
● Moral Behavior
● Personal Character Traits
Participants will also take away dozens of other values and skills, all designed to help to rebuild traditional values in untraditional youth.

Tis the season of giving. This year #CAPS is donating toys to the children of City of Hope Hospital. If you aren’t aware, these children are constantly in pain fighting for their lives. Join us in bringing some Christmas cheer this Holiday Season. From November 1 - December 15 we will be collecting donations to deliver on December 21st, right in time for Christmas. Here are 4 Ways YOU can help:
Donate Money: Click here to donate money to the toy drive. All proceeds will go to buying toys/gift cards for the children.
Mail: Mail a check/money order or toy of your choice.
Collect: Collect toys for the toy drive at work or place of worship. Email info@CAPSforSuccess.org to receive a collection box.
Toy Drive Mixer: Drop off your gift at our 1st annual Holiday mixer on Saturday, December 15, 2012.

Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.

The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15. The day of September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September18, respectively. Also, Columbus Day or Día de la Raza, which is October 12, falls within this 30 day period.
