Come help us “kick off” the construction and be one of the first to take a look at drawings and renderings of our facility.  The ceremony will begin at 3:00 at the project site at the intersection of Pine and Water Streets in downtown Meadville.  Due to a lack of parking along the construction site, CATA will offer free shuttle service from the Downtown Mall parking lot to the construction site starting at 2:30.  You can park for free at the Downtown Mall (approximately two blocks from the construction site) and take advantage of our shuttle service.  The ground breaking is open to the public but please RSVP to Mrs. Joyce Derby by Wednesday June 2nd by calling 814-336-5600.  We look forward to seeing you on June 4th and hope that you can be a part of our celebration of this project.

Starting Monday April 5th CATA will begin to transform the intersection of Water and Pine Streets in downtown Meadville by starting the demolition of two vacant houses that will pave the way for our new home! 2010 is shaping up to be an exciting year for CATA. We will be launching a new “Construction page” of our website where you can see regular updates on our project and literally watch as we transform our little corner of Meadville into the new CATA Intermodal Administration facility! This project is being financed by various Federal, State and Local grant programs and will become one of the first LEED Certified “green” transit authority facilities in the state of Pennslyvania. Be sure to look for monthly updates and progress pictures of our construction project on the CATA website. With operating efficiences realized throughout our service, CATA is in a position to re-invest our resources to provide a much needed extension of our hours for our Meadville bus riders.  The current evening route that begins at 6:15 PM each night will now operate starting at 8:00 PM with the same schedule and routing.  The evening route will operate from 8:00 PM – 11:20 PM Monday – Friday and 6:15 – 11:20 PM on Saturdays.

The Loop connects the college area to downtown Meadville, Wal-Mart and the Movies at Meadville with bus service every 45 minutes from 4:00 PM – 12:00 AM Wednesdays and Fridays.  The Loop then continues with late evening bus service between the campus area and downtown Meadville from 12:00 – 2:30 AM with 20 minute service Wednesdays and Fridays.  The Loop also operates late evening services between the campus area and downtown on Saturdays from 10:00 PM – 2:30 AM.

The Loop is open to the public and regular bus fares apply.  Seniors ride free with a Transit ID card, adults pay $1.00 per trip.  All Allegheny College students ride FREE by showing a valid Allegheny-issued Student ID to the bus driver.  The Loop is Meadville’s best way to get around town and have safe, reliable transportation to all the major destinations of Meadville.  Shop downtown, eat downtown, have a little fun and leaving the driving to the Loop!  For more information on the Loop (including bus stop locations and days of operations) and to get up to date information on all CATA services, check out our website at www.catabus.org

CATA has recently completed the acquisition of property in downtown Meadville for the construction of the new CATA Intermodal Administration Facility.  CATA’s new home will be located at the intersection of Pine and Water Street in downtown Meadville along the current Green and Blue routes.  Our new home will be one of the first buildings in all of Crawford County to pursue LEED certification status.  LEED certification is the recognized leader in environmentally friendly building designs.  As a true partner in the community, the new CATA building will be "green."  Some of the LEED features will include live vegetation on the roof to assist with building cooling and assist with storm water management, local building materials, intelligent light structures, etc.  

CATA has secured the services of CDM, Inc from Pittsburgh, PA for the facility design.  CDM brings a wealth of transit experience to CATA and is well underway with design.  CATA anticipates that construction activities can begin as early as this fall with full completion in mid to late 2010.  Look for more updates in the news and on the web as we work diligently to bring this project to life!
