CATA announces bus service to the 2010 Crawford County Fair

As the summer begins to wind down, it is time for the largest agricultural fair in Pennsylvania!!! The 2010 Crawford County Fair is set to begin on Saturday August 21st and run through Saturday August 28th.

CATA will once again provide public transportation from Downtown Meadville to the Fairgrounds starting on Saturday August 21st and then again on Monday August 23rd through Saturday August 28th. There will be no bus service on Sunday August 22nd. Regular bus fares apply and service will run at 45 minute frequency on each day. Pick up a complete Fair Route bus schedule at the Downtown Mall or from any CATA fixed route bus.

CATA will also be running a special promotion on Monday August 16th – Wednesday August 18th. Each time you ride the fixed route bus on these days, you will receive a chance to win a pair of tickets to the Josh Turner concert on Wednesday August 25th. Contest is open to adults 18 years of age and older. CATA will select two winners, one from Meadville and one from Titusville. The more you ride the more chances you have to win!!!

Also if you are going to the Josh Turner or Darius Rucker concert, you can ride the bus for FREE to the Fair on the day of the show compliments of the Crawford County Fair Board. Just show your concert ticket to the driver on the day of the show!!!

CATA starts NEW Saturday bus service in Titusville

Starting with the new fiscal year that began on July 1, 2010 CATA is pleased to offer a new service for our residents of the Titusville area. CATA will now offer door-to-door shared ride bus service in the Titusville area between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM. This new service will allow seniors, persons with disabilities and all other riders the opportunity to get out and about on Saturdays. Regular shared ride fares and rules apply. In order to ride on Saturday, you must call CATA at 814-775-0228 by 4:00 PM on Friday to schedule your trip. Remember that the drivers do not carry change and if you schedule a trip and cannot make it, you must call CATA at least one hour in advance to cancel. Don’t forget that seniors and all other passengers on the shared ride service in Titusville can take advantage of the transportation provided to the Summer Concert at the Park series each and every Monday in Titusville. CATA schedules ground breaking ceremony for Construction project

Now that the demolition of the CATA site is complete, CATA will be holding a ground breaking ceremony on Friday June 4, 2010 at 3:00 PM. The ceremony will mark the beginning of the near 2.2 million dollar construction phase of the CATA Administration facility project. CATA has recently authorized award of contracts to four prime contractors with an anticipated start date of June 15, 201o. CATA has worked hard over the last four years in securing all necessary Federal, State and Local funding for this $3.2 million dollar project.

Come help us “kick off” the construction and be one of the first to take a look at drawings and renderings of our facility. The ceremony will begin at 3:00 at the project site at the intersection of Pine and Water Streets in downtown Meadville. Due to a lack of parking along the construction site, CATA will offer free shuttle service from the Downtown Mall parking lot to the construction site starting at 2:30. You can park for free at the Downtown Mall (approximately two blocks from the construction site) and take advantage of our shuttle service. The ground breaking is open to the public but please RSVP to Mrs. Joyce Derby by Wednesday June 2nd by calling 814-336-5600. CATA releases construction documents for public bid

On Thursday April 1, 2010 CATA has publically released the long-awaited construction bid documents for the Intermodal Administration Facility project. This project has recently received a commitiment of over $2,500,000 of various Federal, State and Local grants to complete the construction. All interested contractors should visit the CATA website at www.catabus.org for more information and instructions on how to obtain a CD soft copy of our bid package.

Starting Monday April 5th CATA will begin to transform the intersection of Water and Pine Streets in downtown Meadville by starting the demolition of two vacant houses that will pave the way for our new home! 2010 is shaping up to be an exciting year for CATA. We will be launching a new “Construction page” of our website where you can see regular updates on our project and literally watch as we transform our little corner of Meadville into the new CATA Intermodal Administration facility! CATA awards bid for Demolition contract

On Monday January 25th CATA authorized the awarding of a demolition contract to Earthmovers Unlimited, Inc. of Kylertown, PA. After a public bid process, 8 companies submitted bids for the demolition and site preperation of our project. CATA anticipates that the demolition work will begin in early April and literally pave the way for the ground breaking and construction of the Administration facility to begin this June.

This project is being financed by various Federal, State and Local grant programs and will become one of the first LEED Certified “green” transit authority facilities in the state of Pennslyvania. Be sure to look for monthly updates and progress pictures of our construction project on the CATA website. We will begin posting photos in April with periodic updates so you can see how a “green” facility is constructed.

CATA offers FREE Rides on Meadville Trolley!!

As the Holiday season gets into full swing, CATA will be offering an additional incentive to get out and do some shopping. This month from December 16th – December 24th anytime you board the CATA Trolley you can ride for FREE! CATA will rotate the Trolley between the Red, Blue and Green routes so all our customers will have a chance to ride for free. Each day the trolley will be on a different so you never know where you’ll see the trolley! So let CATA help you move around town this holiday season and have a free ride on us!

CATA extends hours of Meadville routes!

On Monday November 2nd CATA will launch a trial run of extended operating hours of the Meadville Red, Blue and Green routes. On Monday Novemeber 2nd all routes will operate an additional 2 hours until 8:00 PM. This new extended operating schedule will run Monday – Friday and continue for a minimum of six months.

With operating efficiences realized throughout our service, CATA is in a position to re-invest our resources to provide a much needed extension of our hours for our Meadville bus riders. The current evening route that begins at 6:15 PM each night will now operate starting at 8:00 PM with the same schedule and routing. The evening route will operate from 8:00 PM – 11:20 PM Monday – Friday and 6:15 – 11:20 PM on Saturdays.

Loop Route back in operation

CATA has resumed the operation of the ever-popular Loop route for the fall 2009!! The Loop, CATA’s Allegheny College and campus area connection to downtown Meadville and the Shopping destinations of Vernon Twp has resumed operations on Wednesday and Friday evenings.

The Loop connects the college area to downtown Meadville, Wal-Mart and the Movies at Meadville with bus service every 45 minutes from 4:00 PM – 12:00 AM Wednesdays and Fridays. The Loop then continues with late evening bus service between the campus area and downtown Meadville from 12:00 – 2:30 AM with 20 minute service Wednesdays and Fridays. The Loop also operates late evening services between the campus area and downtown on Saturdays from 10:00 PM – 2:30 AM.

The Loop is open to the public and regular bus fares apply. Seniors ride free with a Transit ID card, adults pay $1.00 per trip. All Allegheny College students ride FREE by showing a valid Allegheny-issued Student ID to the bus driver. The Loop is Meadville’s best way to get around town and have safe, reliable transportation to all the major destinations of Meadville. Shop downtown, eat downtown, have a little fun and leaving the driving to the Loop! CATA ridership tops 250,000!

WIth the fiscal year that ended on June 30, 2009 CATA has seen a sharp increase in our overall ridership. For the entire year, CATA buses provided over 250,000 passenger trips between all services! Whether it was a senior citizen riding the bus to the Senior Center in Canadohta Lake, an adult using the fixed route in Meadville to get to work or someone in Titusville going to a doctor’s appointment, CATA provided over 250,000 trips this past year.

With all the financial uncertainty, rising unemployment and other daily concerns, it’s nice to know that CATA is here for Crawford County. This past year, we have replaced our entire fleet of Meadville fixed route buses, totaling over $1,400,000.00, we added bus service to the new senior center in Linesville by offering services on Mondays and Fridays. We have also recently completed a transition from contracted service to direct CATA operation of all bus service in Titusville. There’s so much going on at CATA and it’s great to see that the Crawford County supports local bus service. Look for more updates in the next few weeks as we get ready to provide services for the Crawford County Fair and bring back the Loop route!
