Details of the latest incarnation of Apple’s iPhones, the 6s and 6s Plus, were finally confirmed yesterday with the tagline ‘The only thing that’s changed is everything’.

Putting the marketing bumph to one side, the new specifications look, as you’d expect, pretty nifty. Here’s what you can expect...

Get touchy feely

For the first time new multi-touch technology, called 3D Touch, allows the to sense how deeply you press the display. The result? ‘Peek’ and ‘Pop’ options that allow you to preview and navigate apps like never before. With one subtle touch you can take a peek of content – whether that’s emails, websites, photos - and with a longer hold you can pop into it for a full view.

Lights, camera, action!

Have you been disappointed by the quality of the selfies you’ve taken on your iPhone 6? Now you can rest easy. Apple have given their self-styled ‘world’s most popular camera’ a makeover on the 6s models. The FaceTime HD camera now shoots photos at 5-megapixel quality, while the iSight camera is upgraded from 8 to 12-megapixels. ‘Live pictures’ and 4K quality video are other new features that may have you wondering whether you’ll ever need a ‘normal’ camera ever again.

Behind the scenes

Apple claim their new A9 chip will significantly speed up the 6s’ performance and efficiency, which, most importantly, should mean an improved battery life. Improvements have also been made to the TouchID feature…oh, and it won’t bend like the iPhone 6 as they’re now using less pliable 7000-series aluminium for the case. Whatever that is!
