The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, has said that no decision has been taken on doing away with the class X CBSE board exam. He said such a decision will not be made in a hurry, without evaluating pros and cons of the process.

The PM made these comments while addressing schoolchildren on the occasion of Children’s Day: “We are still debating on this issue. This is an experiment. We should not take a decision in haste”.

This is in strong contrast to the announcements made in September, by HRD ministry, which favoured abolition of compulsory CBSE board exams for class X from next academic year (2010-11) and introduction of grading system from current year.

This should come as a respite to parents who think that CBSE board exams should continue as they prepare pupils for the competition they have to face after Class X.Similar Posts:

A. Silver
2. Name 2 metals which can displace hydrogen from dilute HCl.
A. Na and K
3. Why sodium is kept immersed in kerosene oil?
A. Sodium reacts with oxygen when kept in open air and catches fire, so it is kept in kerosene oil to avoid this fire.

The Exams are just over and the students are already confused with what stream to opt for after Class XII. When everyone wants to be an engineer, a doctor one is forced to think if there is some other option. With saturation in common streams law has emerged as one of the best alternatives. India has a large number of law schools and colleges affiliated to various universities.

Once considered to be the last option for those who could not get admitted anywhere else, law today has become a sought after career. CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) being one of the popular ways to get into law career. We explain some of the aspects and history of law education in India.

The Bar Council of India is responsible of maintaining standards of legal education in India. It brought a major changed when country’s first law university was started in association with the Government of Karnataka in 1986. The National Law School of India University (NLSIU) was born. A 5 years integrated B.A. LL.B. degree was started. Students could join it after XII standard.

NLSIU conducted an all India admission test in 1988. It has been gaining strength since then. Many other state governments took a cue and started new law schools. India has twelve National Law Schools or Universitiesproviding world-class quality legal education.

The campus placements at National Law Schools are a proof of their success. Many students get placed with international and national law firms and get handsome pay packages.

Law graduates have a variety of career options available to them. They may join legal practice as a civil lawyer or a criminal lawyer or join the Judicial Services of the state as a Magistrate after passing an entrance examination and work as a Civil Judge or Judicial Magistrate. They may also opt for other options civil services exam and different positions in various government and non-government organizations like Law Firms, Consulting and Advisory Companies.

Did this get you interested? Do you want to know how to become a lawyer? If yes, Read On..

CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) 2009

A key decision was made in the year 2008 when ten of the national law schools conducted the first Common Law Admission Test or CLAT for the admit students into 5 year integrated BA LLB Degree Course. With more than a thousand seats approximately twelve thousand students sat for the test. This was a result of the writ petition filed by a student named Varun Bhagat against the Union of India and various National Law Schools in the Supreme Court of India in 2006. The Chief Justice of India directed the Union of India to consult the National Law Schools with a to conduct common admission test and the Bar Council of India and the University Grants Commission strongly supported this move towards common admission test.

So go ahead and apply for CLAT and other similar law entrance exams and join a rewarding career.
