House of the Dragon season 2 begins on a somber note as Rhaenyra and her family(AKA The Blacks) mourn the loss of Lucerys after his death at the end of season 1. Meanwhile, Alicent and the Hightower family(The Greens) continue their plan to install Aegon as king and begin preparing for war.

With each family hatching their plans while forces like Larys Strong and the white worm work in the shadows, the impending violence is imminent. Daemon's scheme to bring retribution for the blacks using the assassins "Blood" and "Cheese" is certain to have ripple effects throughout the season.

Following last week's "The Green Council," which focused on the Hightowers AKA "the greens," in King's Landing, this week's episode shifts the focus to our other lead, Rhaenyra, from her base in Dragonstone. Rhaenys delivers the troubling news of both Visery's death and also Aegon II's being crowned king in her place.

With Corlys "the sea snake" Velaryon making a surprise return from the brink of death to pledge support from Rhaenyra and Daemon counting dragons, it seems the Blacks are not out of the game despite lacking loyalty from many of the key lords of the seven kingdoms. The name of the game is "war," especially after Lucerys is murdered by Aemond's dragon in a chase the bards will sing about for generations to come.

After yet another time jump (six years in this instance), Vaemond Velaryon petitions against Lucerys Targaryen's claim as lord of Driftmark, calling them illegitimate children, after Corlys "the sea snake" Velaryon has grown deathly ill in the second war for the Stepstones. To defend their family's claim, Rhaenyra and Daemon travel to King's Landing to plead with Viserys on his deathbed. Meanwhile, Alicent and Otto Hightower plan to leverage the petition to bring Rhaenyra's entire position as heir into question.

Before his final day, King Viserys sees the division in the Targaryen house and makes one last attempt to bring the families together over dinner in hopes of making peace. Though a noble effort the resentment and bad blood run deep.

After last week's shocking twist in "The Bells," our characters are left picking up the pieces as they determine how they are going to restore order to Westeros in the wake of Daenerys' attack on King's Landing. In the final hour of Game of Thrones, our characters are given bittersweet sendoffs ultimately leading to a hopeful ending for the Seven Kingdoms.

With so much to wrap up, were we satisfied? We run down the list of closing moments and weigh whether or not "The Iron Throne" was logical, emotionally satisfying, and true to the story George R.R. Martin set out to tell in 1996 with the release of the first novel, A Game of Thrones.

This may be the last episode of Game of Thrones, but The Cast Beyond the Wall will return again next week one last time to reflect on how this final season changes the series as a whole. Hello, lords and ladies of the realm! The Cast Beyond the Wall continues our recap and review of Game of Thrones season 8 with a look at the most polarizing episode of the final stretch yet, "The Last of the Starks." Host Caleb Masters is re-joined by co-hosts Austin Lucari and Daniel Stull to look at the controversial episode with returning guest host, Alexandra Bohannon. 

This transition episode is packed to the brim with scheming, plot twists, and the type of Game of Thrones fun we haven't seen since the earlier seasons. "The Last of the Starks" attempts to take the show back to its roots while also racing full speed ahead to the show's conclusion. The results are mixed at best, and it's not just because Daenerys Targaryen likes her coffee extra strong. The episode brings back memories of the past in more than one way, and for many viewers, they weren't the good memories. The cast discusses how the greatly accelerated pace is negatively impacting the final season and how some of the more frustrating scenes could be handled in more thoughtful and tasteful ways. 

The discussion closes out with Caleb, Austin, Daniel, and Alexandra making final predictions for who will the battle and position themselves to take the Iron Throne. 

As the pieces are moved into place for the final battle of the series, the Game of Thrones fantasy league continued to keep everyone (including Austin the two-time dragon murderer) on their toes.

For more than seven seasons and eight years of TV, Game of Thrones fans have awaited the arrival of the white walkers, and finally, in "The Long Night," their forces mount an attack on Winterfell. The battle that ensues in unlike any we've seen before in modern pop culture. With all of the complaints about the darker lighting, do we think it spoils the episode? We discuss the benefits and drawbacks of director Miguel Sapochnik's technical decisions in an otherwise impactful episode.

Heading into the season, few of us expected the Night King and white walker threat to be dispatched so quickly three episodes before the series finale. "A Knight in the Seven Kingdoms" slowed things down one last time before the show heads into its climactic final chapters by spending quality time with our favorite surviving characters. After arriving in Winterfell, Jaime Lannister is immediately questioned about his loyalty in the face of his family's oldest enemies. After making peace, he is reunited with his closest friends, his brother Tyrion and Brienne of Tarth for a trip down memory lane. The trip ends in what will likely be one of the most iconic moments of the series, the knighting of Ser Brienne of Tarth by Ser Jaime Lannister.

While many of our characters spend their final hours drinking, finding love or spending time with those who mean the most, Daenerys Targareyn continues to seek reassurance and loyalty from those who would fight alongside her. Jon reveals his heritage to Dany, but is unable to make amends or resolve the conflict before the White Walker army arrives at Winterfell.

This is an emotionally somber episode filled with the classic Game of Thrones "talking and scheming in chambers" moments that have been far fewer in recent seasons. We close out our conversation by picking the most likely deaths in the epic battle for Winterfell. "Winterfell" started with a throwback to the very first episode of Thrones as Jon Snow and Daenerys Stormborn reached the end of their trip up the Kingsroad to the titular castle. The extra soldiers to fight the dead may be appreciated, but the tension and skepticism between the mother of dragons and the northerners, including Sansa Stark, is uneasy at best.

The alliance between houses Stark and Targaryen may not be a sealed deal yet, but the episode provided a number of long-awaited reunions between our characters. For the first time since season one's second episode "The Kingsroad," Arya Stark and Jon Snow are reunited in what may be one of the most heartwarming moments of the series. Not every character meeting is quite so happy. In a very Thrones-esque twist, Samwell Tarley learns the grisly fates of his father and brother when he reconnects with Jorah Mormont and meets Daenerys for the first time. All of this is capped off with Sam revealing Jon's true heritage.

The Cast Beyond the Wall is back recapping each and every moment with Caleb, Daniel, and Austin locking in predictions and laying out their final theories as they evaluate whether or not "Winterfell" successfully kicks off the final season.

The podcast kicks off with a brief look back at the highs and lows of season 7 before the cast breaks down the position of each main character and the role they'll play in the final storylines. Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen have taken their forces north to Winterfell to prepare for the Night King's armies who are marching south after the attack on Eastwatch.

South in King's Landing, Cersei has conspired with Euron Greyjoy to break her oath and betray Jon and Daenerys by retaking Westeros while her adversaries are fighting the army of the dead. After discovering this plot, Jaime left Cersei to join the forces fighting in the north. With her enemies vulnerable, will her plan to retake Westeros prove successful or threatening to the heroes waging war with the wights?

One potential threat to her plan is Theon Greyjoy's mission to rescue his sister, Yara, from the cartoonish clutches or Euron and his newly recruited Golden Company. With Theon's redemption all but complete, can his small team of Iron Islanders do enough to sabotage Cersei's scheme? All of these questions and more will be discussed in this final season preview.

This season also marked a notable turnaround for women in Westeros. In earlier seasons most of them were repressed by their husbands, the patriarchy of the world, or even by their own missteps, but this year Daenerys, Cersei, Yara Greyjoy, Sansa Stark, and many others claimed the most powerful positions in the world of Game of Thrones. No matter the quality, this will be one of the seasons that define the show in the years to come.

In our special wrap up episode, Austin, Alex, Daniel, and I play a little game to make the season ender a bit more interesting. If you look at the picture below, you can see we have a bracket filled with different storylines from season 6. These storylines will be pitted against each other and the victor will be decided by group vote. To spice things up a big, we give each host the option to use a "Melissandre Resurrection" to bring one storyline back an placed in a separate bracket. In the end, the winner of the original bracket will go up against the winner of the resurrected losers bracket. It's a fun way to wrap up the season discussion!

It's been a theme running throughout the entire season, but last night cemented the rise to total power for all of our leading ladies including Sansa, Daenerys, and Cersie. Despite Jon being hailed as the new "King ind in the North"," Sansa still holds a key influence in retaking the north for House Stark and likely heading south. Cersei has remained somber for most of this season and it seems we were all correct in assuming that she was going to make a huge bloody action in the name of vengeance. We knew it was going to be huge move, but we never expected her to Michael Corleone the entire Tyrell regime. It was a swift move that's left her with unquestioned power and it came at the cost of her son Tommen and what was left of her humanity.

Austin, Daniel, and I are all very excited to talk about the high bar this episode set for future episodes. This may be the season 6 finale, but The Cast Beyond the Wall will return for at least two more episodes this year! Next week we will be doing a season 6 wrap up with the rest of the GoodTrash gang followed by a special episode taking a closer look at women in Game of Thrones and whether or not the show is actually misogynist(this finale doth protest). Keep your eyes peeled for more!

Jon Snow has seen white walkers at Hardhome, defended the Wall outmatched a hundred to one, and even been brought back from the dead, but that doesn't make him any less a Stark. Leading up to the Battle, Jon scrapes together a strategy and ignores Sansa's advice not to go into battle. Sansa on the other hand continues to withhold the crucial info about Petyr Baelish's armies from the Eerie. Have Ramsey and Littlefinger compromised the elder Stark or was this just a rookie mistake?

Despite the title of the episode, this week also featured the biggest set piece we've ever seen in Mereen. Danerys rides Drogon and decimates entire ships from The Masters' fleet while Dario leads a full fledged ground assault with the Dothraki horde. Following the flawless victory, Theon and Yara Greyjoy arrive and request independence for the Iron Islands if they support her claim. We take a moment to discuss the issues with the season's continued abbreviation, particularly as it relates to Mereen. Has Dany's time to cross the Narrow Sea FINALLY come? For the sake of my sanity, let's hope so.

The Battle of the Bastards may contain not just one, but two of the finest action set pieces the series has ever seen, but I make the case that it lacks the magical secret sauce that makes Game of Thrones special. Austin and Daniel on the other hand were enamored by the undeniably impressive spectacle.

This week was another great table-setter that featured a little bit more of the classic Game of Thrones monologuing that's been lacking in the breakneck pacing of the season so far. Margery proves that she's got the High Sparrow handled in her own way and even sends Lady Olenna Tyrell back to High Garden. Further north, the Starks have apparently discovered a magical means of teleportation as they recruit what's left of the northern houses. 

After suffering from a couple of lame storylines, it looks like Jaime's banishment from King's Landing might be the most interesting thing to happen to him in seasons. He's joined by Bronn as he's forced to retake Riverrun from the Blackfish. For those of you who may have forgotten, Brynden "The Blackfish" Tully, is Catelyn Stark's Uncle who escaped the clutches of The Red Wedding.

Things pick up with Bran immediately after last week's tragic sacrifice  when he and Meera are rescued by none other than long lost Uncle Benjen Stark. After being attacked by white walkers, he's more zombie now than man, but he remains loyal to the Three-Eyed Raven. We talk a bit about the somewhat anti-climatic reveal as well as the meaning of the flashes of Westerosi history witnessed by Bran.

After a week off, the show returned the wretched hive of scum and villainy of King's Landing. This week saw Margery and Tommen making a deal with the High Sparrow which gave him the upper hand when faced with Jaime and the Tyrell army. It was a surprising turn of events that led to Jaime's being set to Riverrun.

That's right! After nearly fading into obscurity, Game of Thrones is heading back to the Riverlands to revisit the home of one Walder Frey. We discuss what this could mean heading into what appear to be the final chapter of the show.

Book of the Stranger featured many crowd pleasing moments, but none as long awaited or emotional as the first Stark Reunion. We laughed, we cried, and somewhere George RR Martin felt a deep disturbance in his source material(probably). At long last, Daniel's dreams of whimsey and Stark victory seemed within grasp right before the rest of the team shuts him down by talking the rather unfortunate demise of Osha at the hands of Ramsey.

Austin coins the term "Post-Martinism" as we discuss the unusually optimistic turn of events in nearly every storyline this week. After being MIA for more than five episodes, Petyr "Littlefinger" Baelish returns and it looks like he's bringing his army from the Eerie into the fold. After experiencing a moment of uncharacteristic fanboy excited, I discuss what his move could mean for the wars to come.

If all of the other heartwarming cheer moments weren't enough for you, Daenerys finally returned to form by reminding us all why she doesn't need dragons, unsullied, or knight's to be the epic leader that has been promised.

This week has us delving even further down the R+L=J rabbit hole as Caleb, Austin, and Daniel discuss the highly anticipated battle between Ned Stark and Arthur Dayne. Just before getting to the real meat and potatoes of the flashback, Max von Sydow's Three-Eyed Raven swoops in to remove Bran from the greater mystery of the past. 

The rest of Westeros continues to be in a state of decay as King Tommen continues to be the world's biggest pushover, the small council is divided between Lannister and Tyrell, and the North's leadership is slowly crumbling to the feet of Ramsey Bolton. This week continues to be dialog driven set up with a few surprises including the Jon Snow's final decision as the the Lord Commander of the Night's Watch. 

Essos continues to be a real snooze fest with Arya's training spinning its wheels while Daenerys continues to retread her old narrative stomping grounds. 

The show continues to move at a rapid pace and the gang here at The Cast Beyond the Wall are excited to lay out their favorite theories and predictions.

This week marks the return of the majorly MIA Greyjoys. After being away from the action for years, it looks the House is back to sow some major storylines. What better way to mark the return of the "winner" of the War of the five kings than a good old fashion pirate mutiny. Austin chimes in with his thoughts on Balon's mysterious brother and what it could mean for later in the season.

There are a number of cool moments including Jaime's standoff with High Sparrow, but the really moving and shaking in this episode was happening in the North. In a shocking turn of events, Ramsey Bolton finally crossed the line and took out Roose. We try to decide how many of the Bolton's numbered days are left. We also can't wrap up the discussion without talking Bran's newfound superpower to look into the past or Jon Snow's awakening.

Following the ultimate sacrifice of Shireen, Stannis prepared to attack Winterfell. In what had been prophecized as his defining moment, everything Stannis had killed for crumbled in mere moments. After being crushed by the Bolton army, Stannis fled into the woods where he would finally encounter the fan favorite Brienne of Tarth. We discuss the storyline that has been building to this moment for years. Despite the slow build up, it looks like we'll have to wait just a little bit longer to learn the fate of the fallen Baratheon.

Our final trip to King's Landing this year took us to an unusual place as we finally felt sympathy for Cersei Baratheon as she "atoned" for her sins by making the demoralizing walk of shame to the Red Keep. Cersei is easily one of more villainess characters on the show, but watching the long walk was one of the most difficult scenes any of us had to sit through. We talk about her arc this season so far and whether or not her lowest moment could send her out to find redemption.

Across the sea in Bravvos, Arya finally got some much-needed traction to what has been one of her more uneventful stories. After crossing the despised Meryn Trant off of her death list, we try to make sense of seemingly omniscient powers of the Faceless Men. We also head back to Mereen where Tyrion, Jorah, and Daario make plans to find Danerys back to the city. 

Game of Thrones left us on an especially distressing note as Jon Snow seems to have met a cruel fate at the hands of his own men of the Night's Watch. It may seem like a pretty definitely period to what has been a notably bleak season, but we all tune in with our own thoughts and theories about the ultimate fate of the famed bastard of Winterfell. 

The Cast Beyond the Wall is back to talk about the rise of Daenerys Targaryen and the fall of Stannis Baratheon in this week's episode, The Dance of Dragons.

The Sons of the Harpy finally made another move against Daenerys as they upended the tournament in the fighting pits and began killing everyone including the despised Hizdahr zo Loraq. After being banished twice and killing a few men in the process, it looks like Jorah has finally won back Dany trust after chucking the so called spear of destiny one of her assassins.

Arya's storyline continues to crawl to a climax as she has a run in with Meryn Trant when he arrives in Braavos with Mace Tyrell. Her season arc has been promising, but is really lacking the progress or urgency of some of her past story lines. Daniel and I get into a heated discussion whether or not we've like the slower pace.

Dorne continues to be one of the absolute worst side treks in the history of the show and we spend a few minutes trying to figure out exactly what went wrong with our favorite Lannister/Bronn pairing.

After a season of building our trust by aligning himself with Jon Snow and promising justice in the North, Stannis finally crossed the point of no return when he decided to burn his daughter. We've never been the biggest Stannis the Mannis fans on the podcast, but we discuss the high hopes we had for him before took a nosedive into desperation. 

This was an episode of the highest of highs and lowest of lows and we try to lay our final verdict on the seasons infamous episode 9. Where does it fall in comparison to the earlier seasons? Tune in to find out! Enjoy the show!

The family drama in Winterfell began to ramp up this week as well now that Sansa is starting to settle into her old home. After years of being apart, she is finally reunited with Theon and the results are truly twisted.

Elsewhere, Mance Rayder is finally back and it looks like his true motives may have been revealed. Further North, Bran finally arrives to see the long foreshadowed Three-Eyed Crow and the reveal is equal parts baffling and shocking. In the south, Arya and the Hound run into the old fan-favorites Brienne and Podrick for one of the best fights in Game of Thrones history.

That's not all, though, as everyone's favorite Mother of Dragons and Breaker of Chains continues to learn hard lessons now that one of her dragons has killed a child, and in one of the saddest moments of the season so far, Daenerys is forced to lock her pets in chains to protect her people. Has her luck finally run out?

Meanwhile, in King's Landing, Tywin is having a rough Father's Day as Cersei spills the beans on her affairs with Jaime, and Tyrion gives him a surprise visit while he's on the toilet.

There's more though, as Austin is finally relieved to see the Greyjoys return as Yara charges Ramsey's fort to take back her long lost brother, Theon, and Daenerys learns that ruling a kingdom isn't all it's cracked up to be as her dragons begin taking down goats. To close out, we discuss Peter Dinklage's Emmy class speech that had all our jaws on the floor as he pleaded for a trial by combat to prove his innocence.

In this week's episode of the Cast Beyond the Wall, the gang discusses the shocking reveal about Jon Arryn's poisoner and it changes everything we've already seen unfold. Cercei continues her political masterminding as she visits each of Tyrion's judges before the big trial begins.
