Living A Life Of Purpose | Finishing The Race

Over the years, far too many people have become spiritual dropouts. These are people who start down the road of discovering all that God has for them. Most often, they are incredibly enthusiastic and excited about discovering their purpose. And yet, at some point, they lose hope. They give up. They drop out.

All through this series, we have continually been reminded that discovering our purpose is a process. It's a journey. It's ongoing. As we wrap up the series this week, we'll talk about what it takes to make sure we don't become another spiritual dropout statistic. We'll learn how to finish strongly so that we may obtain the prize set before us.

Living A Life Of Purpose | Organizing My Time

We've come a long way with this series. We've talked about the importance of living a life of purpose. We've walked through the steps of aligning our life with the values we hold; of recognizing the uniqueness of our S.H.A.P.E.; of committing our lives to our purpose; and, of defining our life's mission statement.

The question some are likely asking is this; how do I find the time to live our my purpose? It's a valid question. The reality is that most of us have far too much on our plates as it is. North Americans are far too busy. As the saying goes, "God put me on earth to accomplish a certain number of things. I'm so far behind, I will never die!"

So, the challenge is this: Are we going to let our schedule control us, or are we going to make the hard choices necessary to make our schedule align to our purpose? It can be done. It is possible. But it wont be easy. This week, we'll talk about what we have to do in order to organize our time around our purpose.

Living A Life Of Purpose | Defining My Life's Mission

Over the past few week's we've been walking through the steps that are necessary to discovering your purpose. We'll continue doing that this week by talking about writing a life mission statement. This statement is a concise, easy to understand statement that will help direct your life. It's more than a goal - in fact, it goes much deeper than that.

At the same time, we'll look at four purposes that every person is called to incorporate into their life. These are things that we have in common when it comes to living a life of purpose.

Living A Life Of Purpose | Committing Your Life

Many years ago, Nike came up with one of the most famous slogans of all time: Just Do It. Let's be honest, too many people never "just do it." They waver. They debate. They consider all the options. They keep a back up plan. They talk about doing it. But they never get around to actually making the commitment to step out and do it.
As we continue looking at Living A Life Of Purpose, we're going to zero in on making a commitment to living out your life's purpose. "But, how can I commit to living out my purpose before I know what my purpose is?" It's a great question. And yet, God doesn't seem to do things the way we think they should be done. All through the Bible, we find God inviting people to commit to his plan before he gives them all the details. What God is really doing is asking us, "Do you trust me? Will you commit to me even without knowing all that I have in store for you?"
How you answer that question will determine just how much of your purpose you'll discover.

Living A Life Of Purpose | Building On Your Strengths

Have you ever wondered what your life would have been like if your parents were different? If you had grown up rich? Or in another country? Maybe you've struggled with why God seemed to allow certain things to happen to you in your life. You've found yourself weighed down by something in your past.

This week, we'll look at some of those issues as they relate to living a life of purpose. We'll talk about how God takes everything in our lives: our passions, our desires, our abilities, and yes, even our upbringing, and uses those elements to shape us into the person he has created us to be.

Living A Life Of Purpose | Deciding What's Important

Everyone values something. We all deem certain things to be important to us. And yet, far too often, the things we claim are important don't line up with the way we live life. In other words, what we value in theory is often much different than what we value in practice.

The first step to living a life of purpose is deciding what truly matters in your life and then aligning your actions to what you value. This week, we'll look at how to do just that. God has created us to place value on certain things. We'll talk about how we ascribe worth and what that says about our purpose.

Living A Life Of Purpose | Why Do I Exist?

A major newspaper in the U.S. recently polled their readership. Among the questions asked was, "If you could ask God anything, what would your first question be?" Overwhelmingly, people responded, "If I could ask God one question, I would ask him, 'Why am I here?'"

It doesn't matter what your spiritual background is, people want to know if this life truly matters. Are we just the result of some random, chanced event in history? Or is there something more? Can we truly have purpose in this life? Is there a reason behind our existence?

Living A Life Of Purpose answers those very questions. Based on Rick Warren's best selling book, A Purpose Driven Life, this series promises to take us on our journey of discovering our God-given purpose.

Week One: Why Am I Here?
In week one, we'll take some time to introduce the series and lay the framework for where we'll be going for the rest of the weeks. We'll talk about the benefits of knowing your purpose, and offer some insight into the first steps to discovering your purpose.

Journey Forward | Developing Mature Leaders

Week Four: Developing Mature Leaders
Browse any book store, search Google for Christian conferences, or follow a few church-related blogs, and you'll discover that there is no shortage of opinions when it comes to the role of church leadership. And yet, it seems like we struggle with how to develop leaders within the church. Could it be that we are asking the wrong questions? Or, could we going at leadership development the wrong way?

This week we wrap up The Journey Forward series by focusing on the fourth element we need to pack: developing mature leaders. What if we viewed church leadership as a calling rather than an office? What if we emphasized spiritual maturity rather than specific positions within the church? How would that look? What if people just naturally began to lead in certain areas? Would our church be more effective?

Journey Forward | Passion For Mission

Week Three: A Focus on Mission
Ask any Christian and they will tell you that reaching the unchurched is important to them. And yet, our actions seem to tell a different story. According to a number of different studies, close to 95% of Christians will never lead another person into a relationship with Jesus Christ. It's a sad fact that The Church is becoming less influential within society every year. The average person simply doesn't see any relevance in the local church and has no interest in becoming part of it.

This series is focusing on the journey forward. It is a journey that God wants to take us on. For it to be successful, we need to pack a few things. So far, we've packed a dependance on God and a desire for community. This week, we're including a focus on mission to our list of elements.

Journey Forward | Desire for Community

Week Two: A Desire For Community
The fourth book of the New Testament, Acts, tells the story of the launch of the Church. From a core group praying in the upper room of a house, to a team of missionaries launching churches in various cities, the Church has been passionate about community. They saw each other as family. They were committed to growing together as they experienced the journey God had for them.

As we continue to look at the journey God has laid out for us, we must come to terms with what it means to be in community together. What does it mean to be a church family? What role should we play in one another's lives? Do we stand with those who are hurting and celebrate with those who are victorious?

Join us this week as we learn what it means desire community within the church.

Journey Forward | Dependancy on God

Have you ever taken a road trip? Most people have. It can be an incredible adventure. It can also be a total disaster. Those who take a lot of trips know that most often, the end result will be determined long before you pull out of your driveway. Especially if the trip is more than a few days. The more you plan and prepare for the trip, the more likely it will be successful. Even the spontaneous parts of a trip are better when there's been some pre-trip planning. The more people you have on your trip, the more important it is to prepare in advance.

God is inviting us to take a trip with him. An adventure. A journey. When we take this journey with others, we are called a church. When we prepare in advance, the church's journey is incredible. We see amazing things happen. When we don't prepare, the church experiences disaster and the people involved rarely make it through the trip together.

This month we are preparing for the journey God is going to take us on. We are doing some pre-planning. What are the key elements we need to have with us when we pull out of the driveway? What factors need to be in place in order to ensure that our journey lives up to the adventure God wants us to experience?

Join us for the month of January and be part of the planning!

A Resolution - A Marathon

Christmas is over, the gifts have all been unwrapped, and in some cases even been returned and exchanged for new ones, the parties and get togethers are almost finished, and the rest of the left over turkey has been thrown out in the green bins. This is the time of year when we can look back at our accomplishments from last year and look forward to what will happen next year. We prepare resolutions for New Year’s eve and promise our friends and ourselves that this year, will be the year! The year that I am finally going to be successful, only to be disappointed within 2 weeks to a month into the New Year! And that’s when it all goes down hill from here. The great news is our faith journey isn’t based on a New Year’s resolution, it’s not a sprint to the finish line it’s a marathon that needs to be well planned and well executed. There will be some falls and some disappointments but we can and will get up and carry on.

Christmas | The Perfect Tree

During the course of a year, we all face discouragement, trials, struggles, and disappointments. For some, these challenges are magnified during the Christmas Season. In Charlie Brown's case, the final straw was being laughed at for picking the wrong tree.

The Christmas message declares, Peace on Earth. In the final week before Jesus faced the Cross, he reminded us that peace is available for those who desire it.

Join us this week as we wrap up our Christmas series by discovering the ultimate message of the Christmas season, symbolized by a broken down Christmas tree.

Christmas | Pantophobia

Do you have any phobias? Sure you do. Most of us are afraid of something. After talking with Psychiatrist Lucy, Charlie Brown discovered that he has Pantophobia, the fear of everything. Most of us are not that bad!

Do you realize that there are good fears as well as bad fears? There are some things that it's good to fear. Sometimes, our fear of something keeps us safe and unharmed.

But, it's the bad fears that paralyze us. And, there is one fear at the top of most people's list. And, it usually reveals itself during the special seasons of the year. This Christmas, many people will battle with this particular fear.

Christmas | The Perfect Doghouse

In 1965, the world was introduced to A Charlie Brown Christmas. Since that time, the Peanuts' classic has aired more often than any other television program. Around the world, families have made it a tradition to watch the show as part of their Christmas celebrations.
This year's Christmas series takes Charlie Brown's Christmas to a whole new level. We'll discover some key biblical truths found within that thirty minute show.
This week, we're talking about The Perfect Doghouse.
While Charlie Brown struggles with getting into the Christmas spirit, Snoopy gets busy turning his house into the ultimate Christmas showpiece. He covers it with lights and other decorations in hope of winning the neighbourhood award for best looking house.
Many of us struggle with putting on the ultimate "show" at Christmas time. The decorations, food, social events, gifts, and even people must be just perfect or else we feel like we've failed to do Christmas "right." As one woman put it: "If you're not in the bathroom crying by midnight on Christmas Eve, you haven't done enough."
Is it possible to be free of all the stress, worry, and demands of Christmas?

Worship

I've found that in church culture we tend to limit and compartmentalize what we consider to be worship. More than just songs or going to church on a Thursday, I believe that limitless worship is more about your attitude and motives then it is about you actions. My hope is to bust some of the myths that we believe about worship, explain what I mean when I say: "worship is more about your attitude" and go over some of the ways that we do it here at Bikers church.

At some point, everyone must look in a mirror and decide who they are. Some battle with self-worth issues their entire life. They struggle with how others perceive them, wondering how they compare with the people in their life as well as the people they see on TV.

Self-help gurus make a fortune selling books suggesting that the power is within us. For some, they believe it. They look inside of themselves to find beauty and worth.

But God calls us to see ourselves through his eyes. As his children. And yet, far too often, God's voice is drowned out because of all the other people speaking into our personal image.

Join us this week as we discover how to sit in the third chair when it comes to self-image.

Three Chairs | Conflict

Last week we learned that our spirituality can be defined by one of three chairs. The challenge left for us was to spend some time determining what chair we thought we were currently sitting on.

This week we begin looking at how the chairs translate into practical living. And, we're starting out with a heavy one: Conflict.

How do you deal with opposition? When someone attacks you personally, what do you do? If someone were to humiliate you, or sue you, or place unfair demands on you, would you retaliate?

Vanier: Why and How

In one month we will be moving to the new location in Vanier. Join us this week as we talk through some of the issues related to our new move. Why are we moving? What does it mean for our church? Who is the best James Bond of all time?
We'll answer some of these questions and take some time to explain how we'll be doing children, youth, and music ministry in the new location. Plus, we'll take time to field any questions you may have about the new location.

Prayer | The Lords Prayer

For some, it's a formula. A magic phrase. "Abracadabra" and the door opens. We pray the Lord's prayer and expect magic. But is that really the point of the Lord's Prayer? Is it supposed to be prayed as a ritual to get God to do things? Or, is there something more?
Have you ever looked at the depth of the words in the Lord's prayer? Have you ever considered how life changing it can be to pray the way Jesus taught us to pray?

Prayer | Unanswered Prayer

You prepare for weeks. During that time, you work hard at not sinning. You only listen to worship music. You're nice to your in-laws. You tip more than you need to. You even help a little old lady cross the street.

And now, it's time. You've built up enough "credit." So, you pray and ask God for something very specific.

It doesn't happen. And you just don't understand why. Why is it that sometimes our prayers go unanswered? Or, even worse, it seems like the very opposite thing happens? Is it because God doesn't care? Is it because we're not spiritual enough? Is there a secret to getting God to do whatever you ask him to do?

Prayer | What is it?

Almost everyone has done it. In some cases, we don't even realize we're doing it. At other times, we stumble along trying to figure it out.

Prayer.

We know it's important. And yet, many of us aren't quite sure what it is. We believe that some people - spiritual people - are more likely to get their prayers answered, and so we often turn to others to pray for us. And yet, the Bible seems to suggest that prayer is something we can all do.

This week, we launch our new series, Prayer, by focusing on the basics. We'll learn what it is, why we do it, and how we can become praying people.
