The Collect:
Almighty God, the fountain of all wisdom, you know our necessities before we ask and our ignorance in asking: Have compassion on our weakness, and mercifully give us those things which for our unworthiness we dare not, and for our blindness we cannot ask; through the worthiness of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
International Prayers:
We pray for all families who have been displaced from their homes due to war, famine, or disease. Pour out your love and compassion on the millions of people living in tents and trying to rebuild a sense of normal lives for their children.


An Update on the Search for Our Next Dean

The search for our next Dean continues to move forward. While much of the work has taken place behind the scenes, meaningful progress has been made in recent weeks.

The Chapter has completed final reference checks for the three candidates recommended by the Search Committee and invited each finalist to continue in the discernment process. Since then, one candidate has accepted a call to serve another parish, leaving two finalists who will move forward.

The Chapter is now coordinating multi-day visitation with each finalist. Due to previously scheduled commitments involving the candidates, their families, and Chapter members, these visits are being planned for early to mid-August.

We know that many in our Cathedral family are eager to learn who God is calling to serve as our next Dean. We share that sense of anticipation and remain committed to a process that is thoughtful, prayerful, and thorough, trusting that careful discernment will serve our congregation well.

Thank you for your continued patience, grace, and faithful prayers as we seek God's guidance for the future leadership of our Cathedral. We will continue to keep you informed as the search progresses.

Led by Wendy Glorioso, this four-part series will examine how the Collect and readings from the Common Lectionary and Daily Office Lectionary highlight God’s Word in our worship, the sermon, and our daily lives.

This Sunday we'll talk about the Daily Office readings and how they relate to the Common Lectionary readings in church.

Order of St. Luke Healing Service | Tuesday, July 21 at 6 p.m.
Everyone is invited to an Order of St. Luke (OSL) Healing Service with Holy Eucharist on Tuesday, July 21, at 6 p.m. in the Cathedral. Mother Patricia will serve as celebrant. If you would like prayers for yourself or someone else, you may submit a prayer request in advance through the online prayer request form. This service will continue every third Tuesday of the month.

Are you discerning how God is calling you to serve? Join Bishop Holcomb, the Commission on Ministry, clergy, and diocesan leaders for a day of exploration and encouragement for those considering lay ministry, the diaconate, or the priesthood. Registration is $20 and includes lunch. The registration deadline is Friday, August 7. Attendance is required for those seeking ordination in the Diocese of Central Florida. Altar flower donations have been lower than usual this summer. To provide fresh flowers for worship each Sunday, the Cathedral Flower Guild needs a minimum of $50 in weekly flower donations. If you'd like to sponsor the altar flowers in thanksgiving, celebration, or remembrance, your dedication will be printed in the Sunday bulletin. Coffee with Cathedral Clergy | Sunday, July 12
New to the Cathedral? Join our clergy after the 10:15 a.m. service for Coffee with Cathedral Clergy, a casual time of conversation and connection in the Parlor. It’s an easy opportunity to ask questions, meet others, and help us get to know you better—no agenda, no pressure, just a warm welcome. The Parlor is located in the Great Hall, across from the kitchen.

Young Adult Bible Study & Fellowship
Join us Wednesdays at 7 p.m. this summer for Young Adult Bible Study & Fellowship! Young adults (roughly 11th grade through college, graduate school, and young professionals) gather for an informal discussion of the upcoming Sunday's lectionary readings and fellowship. The group meets at the Strawn home (4806 Big Oaks Ln.) and will transition to Thursdays at 7 p.m. this fall when Wednesday night dinners and classes at the Cathedral resume. RSVPs are appreciated. Summer Local Mission
July 13–17
Our middle and high school students are invited to Summer Local Mission, a five-day diocesan mission experience at Holy Apostles in Satellite Beach. Students will serve local organizations, worship together, build friendships, and grow in faith alongside youth from across the Diocese of Central Florida. Participants will be commissioned on Sunday, July 12, during the 10:15 a.m. service. Please keep our teens and chaperones in your prayers as they prepare for this week of service and formation. Conference on Ministry | Saturday, August 22 | 10 a.m. - 2:45 p.m. | Church of the Messiah, Winter Garden
Are you discerning how God is calling you to serve? Join Bishop Holcomb, the Commission on Ministry, clergy, and diocesan leaders for a day of exploration and encouragement for those considering lay ministry, the diaconate, or the priesthood. Registration is $20 and includes lunch. The registration deadline is Friday, August 7. Attendance is required for those seeking ordination in the Diocese of Central Florida. International Prayers:
We pray for freedom for many of the world's Christians who live under the threat of persecution from their own governments and all those who worship in societies that are hostile to the Christian faith.


Collect for Independence Day:
Lord God Almighty, in whose Name the founders of this country won liberty for themselves and for us, and lit the torch of freedom for nations then unborn: Grant that we and all the people of this land may have grace to maintain our liberties in righteousness and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.


A Prayer for the Dean Search Process:

Lord Jesus,

We give thanks for the work of the Search Committee and now lift up the members of our Chapter as they discern our next Dean. Grant them Your divine guidance and deep wisdom. Bless their meetings with unity, clarity, and peace. Give them the insight to recognize the shepherd You have chosen for our Cathedral family.

We pray also for the person whom You are calling to be our next Dean. Even now, prepare their heart for this ministry and guide their steps according to Your will.

Strengthen our congregation during this season of transition. Fill us with patience, hope, and trust in Your leading. Draw us closer together as a community of faith, and prepare us to welcome the leader You are raising up for us.

May all our work bring glory to Your name and further the mission of Your Church. Amen.

Dean's Hour
Sundays at 9 a.m. in the Great Hall through July 5
As we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States, this series led by Father Garrett Puccetti will explore the Episcopal Church after the American Revolution, and the Patriots and Loyalists who came together as Anglicans to organize a new Church in a new Nation.

Young Families Ministry
Families with children ages 3 and under are invited to join the Young Families Ministry! Gather with us on the first Tuesday of each month for dinner, fellowship, a book study, and childcare, and on the third Saturday of each month for fun family outings. Come grow in faith and friendship with other young families!

Next meeting: Tuesday, July 7 at 5 p.m. in the Great Hall

Join us Wednesdays at 7 p.m. this summer for Young Adult Bible Study & Fellowship! New to the Cathedral? Join our clergy after the 10:15 a.m. service for Coffee with Cathedral Clergy, a casual time of conversation and connection in the Parlor. It’s an easy opportunity to ask questions, meet others, and help us get to know you better—no agenda, no pressure, just a warm welcome. The Parlor is located in the Great Hall, across from the kitchen.


Summer Local Mission | July 13–17
Our middle and high school students are invited to Summer Local Mission, a five-day diocesan mission experience at Holy Apostles in Satellite Beach. Students will serve local organizations, worship together, build friendships, and grow in faith alongside youth from across the Diocese of Central Florida. Participants will be commissioned on Sunday, July 12, during the 10:15 a.m. service. Please keep our teens and chaperones in your prayers as they prepare for this week of service and formation. Order of St. Luke Healing Service | Tuesday, July 21 at 6 p.m.
Everyone is invited to an Order of St. Luke (OSL) Healing Service with Holy Eucharist on Tuesday, July 21, at 6 p.m. in the Cathedral. Mother Patricia will serve as celebrant. If you would like prayers for yourself or someone else, you may submit a prayer request in advance through the online prayer request form. This service will continue every third Tuesday of the month.

The Collect:
Almighty God, you have built your Church upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone: Grant us so to be joined together in unity of spirit by their teaching, that we may be made a holy temple acceptable to you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
International Prayers:
We lift up the peace process regarding the war in Iran. Like you did with King Cyrus, we ask for you to work in the leaders hearts to turn them toward peace.

We pray for all those falsely accused of blasphemy in Muslim majority Pakistan and ask for protection of Christians from violence.

Parent's Night Out | Friday, June 26 from 6 - 8:30 p.m.

Join us to hear stories, see photos, and learn what God was doing through our Honduras Mission Team as they served alongside our companion church, Buen Pastor, in San Pedro Sula. Before and after the presentation, 1 lb. bags of Honduran coffee beans brought back by the team will be available for purchase, with proceeds supporting El Buen Pastor. The coffee will also be brewed that morning for all to enjoy.

Led by Father Garrett Puccetti: The American Church: The Episcopal Church and the American Revolution. As we mark the 250th anniversary of the United States, this series will explore the Episcopal Church after the American Revolution and the Anglicans who came together to form a new Church in a new nation.


Coffee with Cathedral Clergy | Sunday, July 12
New to the Cathedral? Join our clergy after the 10:15 a.m. service for Coffee with Cathedral Clergy, a casual time of conversation and connection in the Parlor. It’s an easy opportunity to ask questions, meet others, and help us get to know you better—no agenda, no pressure, just a warm welcome. The Parlor is located in the Great Hall, across from the kitchen.


Summer Local Mission | July 13–17
Our middle and high school students are invited to Summer Local Mission, a five-day diocesan mission experience at Holy Apostles in Satellite Beach. Students will serve local organizations, worship together, build friendships, and grow in faith alongside youth from across the Diocese of Central Florida. Participants will be commissioned on Sunday, July 12, during the 10:15 a.m. service. Please keep our teens and chaperones in your prayers as they prepare for this week of service and formation. Send-Off for Mtr. Patricia Orlando | Sunday, July 26
Join us after the 10:15 a.m. service on Sunday, July 26, in the Great Hall for a community meal as we celebrate Mtr. Patricia and give thanks for her time at the Cathedral. All are welcome, and no RSVP is needed.

The Collect:
Almighty God, you have built your Church upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone: Grant us so to be joined together in unity of spirit by their teaching, that we may be made a holy temple acceptable to you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
International Prayers:
We lift up the peace process regarding the war in Iran. Like you did with King Cyrus, we ask for you to work in the leaders hearts to turn them toward peace.

We pray for all those falsely accused of blasphemy in Muslim majority Pakistan and ask for protection of Christians from violence.

A Prayer for the Dean Search Process:

Lord Jesus,

We give thanks for the work of the Search Committee and now lift up the members of our Chapter as they discern our next Dean. Grant them Your divine guidance and deep wisdom. Bless their meetings with unity, clarity, and peace. Give them the insight to recognize the shepherd You have chosen for our Cathedral family.

We pray also for the person whom You are calling to be our next Dean. Even now, prepare their heart for this ministry and guide their steps according to Your will.

Strengthen our congregation during this season of transition. Fill us with patience, hope, and trust in Your leading. Draw us closer together as a community of faith, and prepare us to welcome the leader You are raising up for us.

May all our work bring glory to Your name and further the mission of Your Church. Amen.
Parent's Night Out | Friday, June 26 from 6 - 8:30 p.m.

In Loving Memory of
Betty H. Strandberg
March 30, 1931 – April 29, 2026
Dear Sisters and Brothers of St. Luke:

Our sister, Betty H. Strandberg, passed peacefully into eternal life on Wednesday, April 29,
2026.

Betty was a devoted member of the Cathedral for almost 50 years and was a member of the Cursillo community. She is remembered for her kindness.

Betty was also passionate about Ikebana Flower Arranging which she learned while living in Okinawa with her husband who was serving in the Air Force. Later, she taught classes in Ikebana Flower Arranging. Betty continued to use this expertise throughout her life. While living at the Orlando Lutheran Towers, she made sure her floor’s reception area had fresh flower arrangements each week. After moving into Windsor Place, she would place fresh flower arrangements on a table outside her door for everyone to enjoy. She had been a member of the Ikebana International Orlando for 50 years.

Betty will be interred into the Cathedral Memorial Garden at The Cathedral Church of St. Luke, 130 N. Magnolia Ave., Orlando, FL 32801, on Wednesday, June 24 at 11 a.m. An Open House to honor Betty will be held Wednesday, July 15 from 1 - 3 p.m. at Orlando Lutheran Towers, 300 E. Church St, Orlando, 32801.

In honor of Betty Strandberg’s life-long dedication and love for Ikebana/Japanese Floral Arranging, the Ikebana Iwaya Fund has established the Betty Strandberg Memorial Ikebana Scholarship to support students seeking to further their Ikebana education and experience. The scholarship is awarded to individuals who have demonstrated both talent and a commitment to promoting and teaching the art of Ikebana. All contributions to the Memorial Scholarship are tax deductible.

Though we cannot help but feel sorrow at her absence here below, we rejoice in the fact that she now enjoys “the nearer presence of the Lord.”

Each week, altar flowers are provided by members of our congregation through the skillful work of members of the Cathedral Flower Guild. Beverly “Bev” Dunlap
November 10, 1942 – May 25, 2026
Dear Sisters and Brothers of St. Luke: 

Our sister, Beverly Dunlap, passed peacefully into eternal life on Monday, May 25, 2026. 

Bev was a devoted member of the Cathedral for almost 30 years. She was a long-time member of St. Elizabeth Guild and served as President for three years. She served on the Chapter, served as a Chalice Bearer, was a member of the Altar Guild, and served at Daily Bread and the Christian Service Center. 

Bev was raised in Fort Walton Beach, FL. She graduated Valedictorian from Choctawhatchee High School, and Cum Laude from the University of Florida. She earned her master’s degree in English education from Ohio State University. Bev retired in 2002 after a teaching career in Georgia, Ohio, and Florida spanning over 30 years. Prior to retiring she taught English as Lake Brantley High School in Seminole County. During her career she taught all grades (9-12) and all levels from remedial to honors. 

Bev believed God’s gift to her was empathy for others and that Christians cannot turn their backs on the needs of others but must find ways to meet those needs by applying the Word of God. 

A Requiem Eucharist for Bev will be held at The Cathedral Church of St. Luke’s, 130 N. Magnolia Ave., Orlando, FL 32801, on Saturday, June 27 at 11:00 AM. A reception will follow in the Great Hall. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Bev Dunlap to the Cathedral Church of St. Luke (https://www.ccslorlando.org/give or Post Office Box 2328, Orlando, FL 32802).

Though we cannot help but feel sorrow at her absence here below, we rejoice in the fact that she now enjoys “the nearer presence of the Lord.”

International Prayers:
We pray for the ebola crises, specifically for all the medical responders and those in need of recovery. Give wisdom to those managing the response and courage to those caring for the sick.

We pray for the ongoing war in Iran, Israel, Lebanon and the rest of the middle east. We ask for cool minds and compassionate hearts to think about the good of the people.

A Prayer for the Dean Search Process:

Lord Jesus,

We lift up the members of our Search Committee as they discern our next Dean. Grant them Your divine guidance and deep wisdom. Bless their meetings with unity, clarity, and peace. Give them the insight to recognize the shepherd You have chosen for our Cathedral family.

We pray also for the person whom You are calling to be our next Dean. Even now, prepare their heart for this ministry and guide their steps according to Your will.

Strengthen our congregation during this season of transition. Fill us with patience, hope, and trust in Your leading. Draw us closer together as a community of faith, and prepare us to welcome the leader You are raising up for us.

May all our work bring glory to Your name and further the mission of Your Church. Amen.
Remembering Pulse: Requiem Eucharist
As our community marks the 10th anniversary of the Pulse shooting, the Cathedral gathered for a Requiem Eucharist on Wednesday to remember the 49 victims, pray for survivors and their families, honor first responders, and commend all affected by this tragedy to God's care. We were joined by Cathedral members, neighbors, diocesan staff, public servants, community leaders, and guests from across Central Florida. Canon Dan Smith preached and wore a stole bearing the names of the 49 victims, a gift from the mother of one of those lost. The service received local and national media coverage, reflecting the lasting impact of Pulse on our community and the importance of continuing to remember, pray, and stand together.

Dean's Hour • Sundays at 9 a.m. in the Great Hall through July 5
As we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States, this five-week Dean’s Hour series led by Father Garrett Puccetti will explore the Episcopal Church after the American Revolution, and the Patriots and Loyalists who came together as Anglicans to organize a new Church in a new Nation.

The class will break for Sunday, June 28 so the Honduras Mission Team can share a trip recap.

A note from Reggie & Shari Kidd

Beloved,

Shari and I have been so very blessed by our years of being a part of the Cathedral. Thank you for the lovely, worshipful, and inspiring send off this weekend as I retire from my role as Dean. Thank you for the loving, handwritten notes, expressions of your love, with reminders of special memories with so many of you. We are overwhelmed with gratitude for the wonderful surprise gift of travel and adventure from our Cathedral family. 

We will miss you, for now, and hope to see you again. In the meantime, be assured of our prayers for you all.

News of the Family

We give thanks for the life of Joan Marie Sherman (July 10, 1933 – May 22, 2026), wife of the late Very Rev. Harry B. Sherman, the Cathedral’s 11th Dean. Joan was a founding member of St. Martha’s Guild and a longtime member of the Altar Guild, faithfully serving the Cathedral for many years.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 6, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Gregory’s Episcopal Church in Boca Raton, Florida. Please keep Joan’s family and loved ones in your prayers. Joan's obituary is linked here.

Ten years after the Pulse Nightclub tragedy, we gather to remember, pray, and commend the departed to God’s eternal care. Join us for a Votive Requiem Eucharist in memory of the 49 victims. Canon to the Ordinary Dan Smith will preach.

All are welcome as we honor their memory and pray for healing, peace, and hope.
Parent's Night Out | Friday, June 26 from 6 - 8:30 p.m.
Parents, enjoy a night off while your children are cared for by our wonderful Cathedral staff in a safe, joyful, and engaging environment. Children ages 0–12 are invited for an evening of playtime, games, snacks, and fun in the undercroft. 

Pray for Our Honduras Mission Team
Our Honduras Mission Team is traveling today to serve alongside our companion church, Buen Pastor, in San Pedro Sula. During the week, they will take part in community outreach projects and repair work on the church’s Great Hall. Please keep the team in your prayers. We pray for safe travels, meaningful relationships, servant hearts, and for God’s presence to be at work in and through them. Thank you for supporting this ministry as they answer Christ’s call to serve beyond our walls.
 

Altar Flower Dedications
Each week, altar flowers are provided by members of our congregation through the skillful work of members of the Cathedral Flower Guild. You are invited to sponsor the Sunday altar flowers in thanksgiving, celebration, or remembrance with a gift of $50 or more. Dedications are printed in the Sunday bulletin and help sustain this beautiful part of our worship. A note from Reggie & Shari Kidd

Beloved,

Shari and I have been so very blessed by our years of being a part of the Cathedral. Thank you for the lovely, worshipful, and inspiring send off this weekend as I retire from my role as Dean. Thank you for the loving, handwritten notes, expressions of your love, with reminders of special memories with so many of you. We are overwhelmed with gratitude for the wonderful surprise gift of travel and adventure from our Cathedral family. 

We will miss you, for now, and hope to see you again. In the meantime, be assured of our prayers for you all.

The Collect:
O God, from whom all good proceeds: Grant that by your inspiration we may think those things that are right, and by your merciful guiding may do them; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
International Prayers:
We pray for central African nations as they face the ebola outbreak, particularly the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, and South Sudan.

We pray for growing violence in Ethiopia that threatens to develop into an internal war. We pray for the Tigray region and historical enmity with Eritrea. Lord bring peace.

A Prayer for the Dean Search Process:

Lord Jesus,

We lift up the members of our Search Committee as they discern our next Dean. Grant them Your divine guidance and deep wisdom. Bless their meetings with unity, clarity, and peace. Give them the insight to recognize the shepherd You have chosen for our Cathedral family.

We pray also for the person whom You are calling to be our next Dean. Even now, prepare their heart for this ministry and guide their steps according to Your will.

Strengthen our congregation during this season of transition. Fill us with patience, hope, and trust in Your leading. Draw us closer together as a community of faith, and prepare us to welcome the leader You are raising up for us.

May all our work bring glory to Your name and further the mission of Your Church. Amen.

News of the Family

We give thanks for the life of Joan Marie Sherman (July 10, 1933 – May 22, 2026), wife of the late Very Rev. Harry B. Sherman, the Cathedral’s 11th Dean. Joan was a founding member of St. Martha’s Guild and a longtime member of the Altar Guild, faithfully serving the Cathedral for many years.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 6, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Gregory’s Episcopal Church in Boca Raton, Florida. Please keep Joan’s family and loved ones in your prayers. Joan's obituary is linked here.
