People have conflict styles, and so do organizations. Gaining understanding of both the individual and organizational conflict styles is a critical and essential element in conflict management. This workshop offers two distinct skill opportunities. The first is to complete a personal conflict style inventory that allows supervisors to determine their conflict management style and how to use it with positive results. The second opportunity offers participants a chance to evaluate the organizations conflict culture to increase constructive resolutions to conflict.

This is the first workshop in a series of three for a certificate in Conflict Resolution for Supervisors: Essential Elements. It is not required to attend all three workshops, but a certificate is awarded when all three workshops are taken and completed.

Each of these workshops will provide participants who function in supervisory roles with the skills and knowledge to deal effectively with workplace conflict. Together, they provide a comprehensive basis for a platform of competencies in this crucial area.

The purpose of this workshop is to explore how to effectively communicate, especially when functioning in the role of a group facilitator and leader. Leading with your assertive voice allows you to be clear and concise across diverse audiences while maintaining a professional tone.

You will learn how to balance your personal appeals and better understand how to structure a message that best suits your communication style. Step by step methods for dealing with intense conversations will also be discussed.

About this Seminar

This Parenting Time Expeditor training is a one-day immersion learning experience into the world of assisting parents in conflict using the Parenting Time Expeditor model, which is a unique alternative dispute resolution process found in Minnesota law.

Parenting Time Expeditors are court-appointed mediators who have the authority to issue legally binding decisions (arbitration) on parenting time issues in Minnesota. Parenting Time Expeditors are generally utilized in the most high-conflict family situations and must be experts at this unique sub-field of alternative dispute resolution.

This seminar focuses on:

Understanding the role of a Parenting Time Expeditor in the family law system including the dynamic between the Parenting Time Expeditor, parties' attorneys, and the judiciary
Learning the functions and best practices of Parenting Time Expeditors including setting up a practice, screening and accepting new clients, issuing binding decisions, communication with the court, and other areas of practice considerations
Appreciation for the legal boundaries and liabilities associated with Parenting Time Expeditor practice including a thorough review of the Rule 114 Ethical Code as it relates to Parenting Time Expeditors

About the Instructor

Justin L. Terch is a mediator, parenting time expeditor and consultant practicing in the Duluth area. He has worked with over 300 high-conflict couples in the Twin Ports as both a mediator and expeditor and has a particular interest in the theory and concept of parental alienation and child-centered dispute resolution.

Justin is currently the Principal of Terch & Associates LLC, which provides professional consulting services to family and organizational clients throughout the upper Midwest region. In addition, he is a Guest Lecturer in the Mediation & Conflict Resolution Certificate Program at UW-Superior.

Justin is also the exclusive provider of court-referred mediation in Douglas County Wisconsin, maintains panel affiliation with the Minnesota Department of Human Rights and is a Qualified Neutral under Rule 114 of the Minnesota Supreme Court.
