Most people got prett okay grades, but I guess it's Winter Break that got everyone a little distracted.

Before I get into what's going on this month, I'm sure most people who've read this have heard about the CJHS MySpace hater, a MySpace profile that writes trash talk abbout other people. And you know what, that's not cool. I doubt those people ever did anything to you, so you shouldn't be writing about them.

Moving on, Candy Grams were last week! Just a dollar for sending a bar of Hershey's to someone ;) They were selling compatibility tests too. I have to admit, I liked last years results better, but this time wasn't too bad. Anyways, the Valentine's Day Dance is coming up with our one&only DJ Hightop! I wish it was night dance like last year, but I guess it doesn't matter too much. I encourage 7th graders to go to this dance, because it's your last chance to see DJ Hightop this year, and the next time he's coming is the 8th Grade Promotion Dance.

A four day week, a four day weekend, and another four day weekend. Pretty good.

That's all for now. I'm not even kidding, things are busy right now, and I'm not really in the mood to work right before break. So I'll make this post extra long.

Let's back-track to November. Not much happened, except for Thanksgiving break.

Oh, I forgot about our quarter grades. Not trying to sound like a teacher, but don't let your grades slip just because of holidays. I know from personal experience that grades slip lower to some people because in the beginning of the year, everyone's excited. But when summer vacation comes, people get even MORE distracted. So stop procasinating, and do your work!

December is pretty much my favorite month and there's a lot happening. First of all, everyone is pretty cold in the morning right? Grab a drink in F-1, Mr.Vilkins's room for a cup of hot chocolate and marshmallows! A lot of people are probably worrying you can't drink fast enough, or you'll burn yourself. Don't worry, a lot of teachers usually let you drink in class, as long as you don't make a mess.

Winter Ball 12/4/09. So far, this was the best dance of the year, in my opinion. I loved having a professional photographer, a better DJ, and the fake snow (although it took a while to shake it out of my hair). Part of it sucked, cause the person I liked was dancing with someone else, but that's my personal life. Did you ever notice how the gym is all decorated for a dance, but when you enter it again, it seems so plain? The next dance is in February, a 3-5 P.M. dance, with our one and only DJ: DJ Hightop! :)

You can pick order/pick up your photos you took at the dance the past Thursday, Friday, or this coming Monday. An extra $5 for any other photos you sneaked into.

Third of all: DRESS WARMLY! The fashion part of the blog. I see people t-shirts and jeans. You know, a jacket will never hurt anyone, and bring a lightweight one if you're worried about carrying it around all day. The rain is finally coming, after waiting for so long, so bring umbrellas! Swine flu isn't dying out anytime soon, and I'm pretty sure no one wants to get sick.

I think the next post will be in January, because break is coming, and really. What's there to write about?

A favor to the readers, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let yours friends know, or submit articles about school, teachers, or advice. Greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Sincerely,
The Editor

P.S. Happy Holidays
& Have a great New Year!
2o1o should be an interesting year :D

_________________________________________________
While you are here, why don't you Subscribe to our Feed or
Subscribe via Email

CONTACT AT: the.cjhsgazette.editor@gmail.com

Centerville Junior High does not endorse, support or affiliate in any way to the views of the blog.

It's Been A While...

WOW.

It's been over a month since I wrote; with all the excitement of this week and piles of homework I've been getting, writing escaped my mind.

Hmm, what's new?
For starters, this week is SPIRIT WEEK :) Show some school spirit by dressing up. Since it was Monday today, I know a lot of people forgot to wear pajamas, including me. I advise you to dress up, it's actually fun when you put some thought into it. Tomorrow is Twin day! Wear something identical as a friend. Remember, dress code applies.

This week is also Red Ribbon week. LIVE YOU LIFE DRUG FREE!

Leadership is also setting up a haunted house at F-1. Try going in for a couple of screams. Available all week, for only a dollar. A piece of advice...try going on Friday, because it's usually the scariest day to go, and worth a buck.

Our second dance is coming up, and all the eighth graders who went to the Halloween dance last year can all agree that the DJ was a little bit boring. But I heard that this year, we're getting a new DJ. Tickets are sold at F-1, for 5 dollars each.

Oh...the quarter is also ending soon at November 3rd. Not to sound like a teacher who nags you, but try to turn in all your work. Most people tend to procrastinate, and I have to admit I'm on of them, but trust me, you don't want to regret not working when you see your quarter grades.

HAPPY EARLY HALLOWEEN! :D

Sincerely,
The Editor

P.S If you guys want to get a post published here, don't hesitate to email the address below!

__________________________________________________
While you are here, why don't you Subscribe to our Feed or
Subscribe via Email

CONTACT AT: the.cjhsgazette.editor@gmail.com

Centerville Junior High does not endorse, support or affiliate in any way to the views of the blog.

Back to School Dance & LTA

It was the Back to School dance yesterday from 3-5. For most of the seventh graders, this was a totally new experience. Fun and exciting. With DJ Hightop, it was even better. Most eighth graders don't attend because this dance is mostly for the seventh graders. Another reason why most eighth graders chose not to attend is because the dance wasn't at night from 7-9. In my opinion, it wasn't a bad dance. Just a little less exciting than last years.

Another event that happened yesterday at lunch...another lunch time activity hosted by Leadership. Thanks you guys, for making lunch interesting! I saw a lot of people laughing at people lying on the ground, with people standing on top of chairs and throwing ice cream on them. The event was called "Human Sundae." There's usually a lunch time activity every week.

Hope you guys are having a good year so far!

Sincerely,
The Editor

__________________________________________________
While you are here, why don't you Subscribe to our Feed or
Subscribe via Email

CONTACT AT: the.cjhsgazette.editor@gmail.com

Centerville Junior High does not endorse, support or affiliate in any way to the views of the blog.

Magazine Drive

It's time for our annual magazine drive! The theme this year is: GAME ON!

To the eighth graders, this was basically a review. We've already seen this assembly last year, but the prizes changed. I think. And I don't remember the exact amount of money we earned, but it was a lot.

I know a lot of people are excited about this, but about I'm predicting that about 1/2 of us probably won't participate. The idea of getting prizes got people talking, but the idea of of selling magazines wasn't too thrilling.

I have to admit some of the prizes ARE pretty cool, like the camcorder or speakers.

To the people who are participating: GOOD LUCK!!! And have fun with your new prizes. Haha. And remember, if you want the mystery prize, you can go online to www.QSP.com, and register online!

A good thing about today, our classes were cut short.

Sincerely,
The Editor

P.S Don't forget, there's going to be Stilt Races tomorrow at lunch. For the seventh graders, I recommend going. Our lunch time activities are pretty entertaining and there's prizes!

________________________________________________
While you are here, why don't you Subscribe to our Feed or
Subscribe via Email

CONTACT AT: the.cjhsgazette.editor@gmail.com

Centerville Junior High does not endorse, support or affiliate in any way to the views of the blog.

First Day Of School 09

So it's our first day back at Centerville Junior High.

Welcome back, eighth graders! And I hope the new seventh graders
(or sevies, as most eighth graders perfer) have two great years at Centerville! :)

A typical first day of school for a lot of people, just seeing old faces again, meeting new teachers, complaining about them, and basically just having fun. There wasn't much for the eighth graders, just an assembly and new distribution room, and some new teachers to get used to. For the seventh graders, I saw the confused looks on some of their faces as they tried to figure out where all the classes were. The transition from sixth grade to junior high is big, so it takes some times getting used to. Good luck, you guys.

There IS one thing that didn't make much sense to me today....

The HAB prizes are still going on.

While we're in an crisis: our buses are no longer available and they barely give enough money for teachers to work with, the school is somehow finding a way to give out electronics as prizes. The prize this month is apparently a DS. I heard someone behind me during the assembly getting excited about the DS, honestly, think about it, there's nearly a thousand people in our school, the chances of winning the prize is slim. I just honestly think that using the money to buy expensive prizes instead of using it for school expenses is just pointless.

That's all for now, hope you guys have a great year!

________________________________________________
While you are here, why don't you Subscribe to our Feed or
Subscribe via Email

CONTACT US AT:

♫

the.cjhsgazette.editor@gmail.com

Centerville Junior High does not endorse, support or affiliate in any way to the views of the blog.

The Last Post

I will miss this blog, a lot.

Well, today was graduation. Maybe because it was so depressing.

Some of us went to the dance which was FUN! DJ hightop played and it was just a fantastic night. I really liked that dance. hmm...

You know, I have been dreading high school up untill today. Some of the things were a little older than middle school, but it didn't detract from the overall performence. They talked about sex, depression, and the sorts.

They adressed a lot of serious stuff. The play was fairly accurate about their depictions. It was funny at times and it kept me interested. They won't do anything unless someone else is there to do it with them. They're scared of being judged -- the disappointment.

I was pretty much the same. I was the shy one, the one who always sat in the corner. Now, I guess, I've discovered my confidence. A close relative died a year ago, which made me think about how life is so short. It's a waste to be shy. I've been making more friends. What people think of me has not worried me much. Yet, nowadays, I've been questioning that.

People expect me to be this person. To always be a person who is happy and bubbly. The risk-taker, the one who doesn't care what people think about. They expect me to selflessly do things for them. They expect things from me when they need them. Yet, I never get anything back in return.

I don't want to complain, but it's just been gnawing at me for months.

Sometimes, I just feel like my family life is falling apart at the seams. I would say that school is my escape. Hmm.. that's another story though.

But I have to put up this act. "I'm great and happy!" when I'm really not. "I'm sorry" when it was never my fault. I have to be the model student. The one who all the teachers love. The one who gets the highest grades. The one who behaves. The one who leads. The one who knows what to do. I sit and listen to all my friends problems. I nod and sympathize. I try to be comforting. I always ask everybody how they are doing. Yet when I need it, it's not there.

I hate bottling up my emotions. I really wish someone could listen to me. Just listen.

If you knew me. I would probably be the last person you'd think would write this.

Meh, this is just teenage angst talking probably.

Sincerely,
The Editor

Sorry for my very annoying article. :) I just had to let it out.
__________________________________________________
While you are here, why don't you Subscribe to our Feed or
Subscribe via Email

CONTACT US AT: somebody125@gmail.com or anonymoose181@gmail.com

Visit http://www.ctmnews.com the source for Centerville Junior High news and podcast.

Centerville Junior High does not endorse, support or affiliate in any way to the views of the blog.

End of the School Year stress

The school year is almost over... only a couple of weeks left. The school year passes by so fast.

Grrr... why do teachers have to make all those big projects due now? I have series of projects to do and finals to take. I remember I only slept a couple hours a night last year in 7th grade during these weeks. I'm still excited though. 8th grade is a lot easier than 7th grade, but it only gets harder from here on out. I'll miss it. People are moving and it is sad. hmmmm... Soon, 8th grade will be a distant memory. I love change, but this a bittersweet time for me. How was your Spring Break?

Mine was mostly hanging out with friends, visiting family, homework and what-not.
Yet, it's not the happiest for some. There has been a ton of vicious gossip going around since we came back to school. I hear it everywhere, about people I don't even know.

Actually, there has been some trouble among my group of friends right now. Hmmm.... long breaks like this always set things off. Most of this stuff is just about little things. I'll just probably let the entire thing blow over before I make any move.

7th grade was so much simpler. Who Knows? Does anyone care?

I hear Chris Brown and Rihanna everywhere. Yet, not a soul talks about genocide in Darfur. No one is interested about the real current events that affect our lives, our parents lives, people around us.

Some kids brag about knowing so much about the current events. Still, they usually only grasped a shallow part of it. We aren't given voting rights because how easily swayed we are. This stuff doesn't affect us directly. We aren't the ones losing the jobs. All we do is eat, play, school, and hopefully sleep.

When students argue, they mimick whatever their parents say most of the time. Or, they are mimicking what everybody else is saying at the time. They usually don't have a deep enough grasp on the subject to make an opinion. Every matter has a pro and a con. Many ignore that fact.

Students don't take the time to do research on the matter to form an opinion. They wave around T-shirts and posters. Take for example the current budget cuts. Most don't care, some do. The some are usually misleaded -- they think that school shouldn't get budget cuts.

We need cuts though. We cannot just not have any cuts. Our economy is so low right now. It's unrealistic to picture a world where there are no cuts to anything. If schools aren't cut, imagine what will? Everything is getting cut, not just schools. Our reps have been racking their brains on what to do. There has to be cuts, but the matter is on what. Maybe less cuts on school, but more on prisons? Should we let more prisoners out? No plan can be perfect, less of this, more of this, it a giant balancing act.

People listen if everyone else is doing it. I see "Go Green" T-shirts on the kids that litter the campus at lunch. It's cool to want to save the earth, but no one actually does it.

If they want to help society, they should take time out to volunteer in their community.

I'll admit though, I have only a very shallow grasp on all of this. I listen to the news sparingly. My opinions are formed from my parents. Only recently have I had differing opinions.

Back to the topic, is this what our generation is going to? Most of us are only 4-5 years away till we can vote. We are the future. We will be calling the shots soon. Our generation needs to be informed, at least somewhat. However, most aren't. What will happen? Will our opinions be formed by what people tell us to believe?

Sincerely,
The Editor

It's been a rough month. Centerville has one of the most inventive educational fairs.

There were hot air balloons, roller coasters, people dancing, fencing, and so much more other stuff. That's what I love about Centerville -- it is amazing how open it is to new ideas. I mainly just dawdled along, seeing all of the work that students and teachers put into all of these projects. I slept at 12 AM because of how late I got home that day.

You can literally spend an hour in there. I didn't hear the results, but there were rumours of people knowing 300 digits! Woah, 300 digits of pi is a lot of numbers, really can't think of why someone would memorize that many. There was also a hula hoop contest. Maybe next year, how about "what you can make with only circles" contest. You make a creative thing out of just circles. Kinda weird, but I would love to see what people could do with it. So many firsts.

It's just a learning process I guess. I remember not even caring what I looked like in elementary school. Now, I spend about 3 minutes just thinking about what I'm going to wear. Strange how things change.

Your mind also matures when you're a teenager. I never fully comprehended what my parent's fights were about. Why father wasn't there for graduation, award assemblies, conferences, or anything that was important to me. Why did he come home at 5 AM, with no explanation. The screaming, yelling, slamming of doors. I really started to connect the pieces together just recently. Either they stopped caring to cover it up, or I got smarter. And with that, came feelings of betrayal and hurt. I'm not the type to cry though. All these feelings start coming at you, along with homework to do, and people to deal with, it gets tiring. I think I get a tiny bit of pain everytime I come home with a "highest grade in the class" or "perfect score" and all I get is a door shut in my face. Not even a measely "good job" or "keep up the good work." Despite the hours you spent studying or the days you put into the project. (I'll write in more detail eventually)

Now, you really look at life. You have about 4 more years till college, then 4 more years after that till you're, for the most part, on your own. What will you be? Kids have already become millionares by the age of 14. You start thinking about hopes and dreams and accomplishments.

Then you look back when you were in kindergarten looking up at the 6th graders in the "big kid's" playground. You looked forward to go into 4th grade and being able to play in the upper grade play ground. Then you looked forward to jr. high. Now that I'm here, I realize how naive I was. 4th grade is really young to me now, 6th grade doesn't seem all that great to me now either.
My junior high years have gone by the faster than any of my elementary school years. Each week, you set you goal to complete this project, then next week there is always another one. Week after week. Then you realize the school year is done, and you look back and had some regrets. Like, why didn't I try harder in this class? or Why didn't I make the most of my time here?

I'm not afraid of the future. Just anxious I guess.

Time flies.

I've been extremely sleep deprived lately, sorry for the not-so-great article.

__________________________________________________
While you are here, why don't you Subscribe to our Feed or
Subscribe via Email

CONTACT US AT: somebody125@gmail.com or anonymoose181@gmail.com

Visit http://www.ctmnews.com the source for Centerville Junior High news and podcast.

Centerville Junior High does not endorse, support or affiliate in any way to the views of the blog.

District Writing Test

somebody125@gmail.com

You could hear a pin drop. Most students were writing, some stared aimlessly off into space. Basically, you had a little more than an hour to write an essay. Which gave ample time to proofread and read whatever book you wanted.

Writing is one of my worst subjects. Never have I been able to sit there and just write. Of course, blogging is different. So I sat there, and brainstormed. My essay was done about 20 minutes later. I remember I only read about 10 pages of my book during that free time. The rest of it was just me thinking about my dysfunctional family, feelings, just typical teenage angst.

I might write about my family one of these days. If anyone shows any interest.

Back to the point, the essay had an easy prompt, tons of time to finish and the stress level was none. I hear that the english teachers are hand grading them this year.

Sincerely,
The Editor

I think I might write a poem about the rain one of these days. Most of the information is on the white paper if you got it.

She repeated everything about 10 times. Which is only neccesary because there are always students who forget what to do. Pretty much all of our questions were answered. (side note: I'm glad to be sitting on the bleachers!) We missed our math classes, but it was better than having 500 kids all in room. The speaker was friendly, loud, and not boring.

I'm glad how all of this was all layed out. Staying late to clean up. There was also homework to make up and teamates to deal with.

It takes a lot of work to make one of those booths. A ton of research, glueing, taping, cutting, cooking, baking, movie editing.

Yet, in the end, no one ever learns anything. Kids pass by just looking for stamps. Teachers just say "Good Job!" and that's it. Frankly, it really isn't worthwhile. The work from classes you missed pile up. You get absolutely no recognition for ALL of that hardwork.

All of us could have dropped out. Then there would be no international fair at all. All of the work was purely by the students. We met with the teacher just to get information. All of the planning, working, getting together, was all planned by us. We were the ones who ultimately decided when our deadlines were. We planned how the booth would look like. We were the ones who decided the shifts. We planned and did everything.

If none of us did this, there would be no international fair. We could've all have dropped out last minute and nothing would happen to us.

I really wish we had some recognition or a party, or something.

Anonymous Guest Writer
__________________________________________________
While you are here, why don't you Subscribe to our Feed or
Subscribe via Email

CONTACT US AT: somebody125@gmail.com or anonymoose181@gmail.com

Centerville Junior High does not endorse, support or affiliate in any way to the views of the blog.

McDonald's giftcards as a prize?

somebody125@gmail.com

Old Ronald McDonald has been around for years. It's pretty much an icon now. An icon for fast food and unhealthy junk.

I'm pretty much a health freak. I try to carry my own lunch, excersise regularly, ect. Now I hear that as HAB prizes, they give out a bunch of $5 gift cards to McDonalds. Why McDonalds? There is Jamba Juice, which is still not the healthiest place, but not as bad as McDonalds.

I mean, some of my buddies told me that they spent an entire month in 7th grade talking about the dangers of fastfood. The even watched a documentary about it. I have heard that Dr. Mirigan had fought against having sodas in school and has tried to decrease the amount of high calorie stuff.

It shows on our menu. No greasy fries, no sodas, only baked chips. While, there are some greasy stuff on the menu, there is always a grilled chicken sandwhich that tastes really good.

Now the school supports it? It's just ridiculous. There is a plethora of different shops and venues to choose from.

Sincerely,
The Editor

__________________________________________________
While you are here, why don't you Subscribe to our Feed or
Subscribe via Email

CONTACT US AT: somebody125@gmail.com or anonymoose181@gmail.com

Visit http://www.ctmnews.com the source for Centerville Junior High news and podcast.

Centerville Junior High does not endorse, support or affiliate in any way to the views of the blog.
