Students from Simms Cross Primary School researched instruments and how they actually make sounds. Using their findings they embarked on designing and developing their own instruments.

Simms Cross Primary School - Noise Pollution Project

Students from Simms Cross Primary School made podcasts based upon their findings regarding noise levels in Widnes. They travelled to various locations across Widnes and monitored noise levels using decibel readers and made notes regarding the noises in question. They also interviewed two members of Halton borough council’s health and safety department to demonstrate their findings and put forward their questions regarding noise levels.

Simms Cross Primary School - Blues Music Radio Broadcast

Students from Simms Cross Primary School have embarked on a term long music project with the Widnes CLC, were they have learnt how to compose their own music tracks using GarageBand. The students have been studying the origins of music and even went as far as to design and make their very own instruments. Here is the output from their radio broadcast which incorporates the students own compositions.

Interview with Miss O’Neil and Alun of the Grange school

Runcorn clc were lucky enough to grab a short interview with Miss O’Neil (music teacher from the Grange Comprehensive) and Alun, a pupil looking to record a Saxophone solo.

We discussed the Media Broadcast Centre and the benefits it has given to Miss O’Neil’s pupils.

Newsround visit Runcorn CLC

The Runcorn CLC had a surprise visitor in the form of ‘Ricky Boleto’ from BBC’s Newsround. Ricky popped in to film a report on the pupils of Hillview Primary who were using ‘Everton’ as teaching tool.

The pupils were filming a school version of ‘Match of the Day’ in the Media Broadcast Centre. Cameras were equipped with green screen technology which replaced the background with a virtual studio. Members of the studio read a specially prepared script off the autocue which will then be edited further by the pupils.

St Bedes & St Sebastian Spanish Podcast Collaboration - Libbie & Isobel
