Nursing a knee-injury, Australian left-arm pacer Nathan Bracken will have to sit out of the Champions League Twenty20 tournament to undergo a surgery.

A regular in Australia's ODI squad, Bracken was ruled out of the Champions Trophy after being sent home from South Africa following his right knee injury.

"Following consultation with knee specialists, Nathan has been booked in for arthroscopic surgery next week," Cricket Australia Doctor Trefor James said.

"His progress following surgery will be monitored for a return to training in due course," he added.

The 32-year-old Bracken was scheduled to participate in the $2.4 million Champions League as a part of New South Wales squad but this injury means he will not tour for the twenty20 tournament next week.

"We have ruled him out of the Champions League. He will be in contact with Australia in terms of whether he is available for the ODI series in India," Cricket New South Wales spokesman David Townsend said.

AB de Villiers to Miss Champions League

The Delhi Daredevils will miss the services of AB de Villiers in their Champions League campaign as Cricket South Africa has withdrawn the middle-order batsman from the Twenty20 tournament due to a lower back pain.

After consultation with the Board's medical committee, the CSA decided to restrict de Villiers from participating in all forms of competitive cricket for the next four to six weeks.

"AB de Villiers developed left lumbar pain, four weeks ago, during preparation for the Champions Trophy tournament," Shuaib Manjra, Chairman of CSA's medical committee, said in a statement.

"We have thus decided to withdraw AB from all cricketing activities for the next four to six weeks in order to allow for proper management of his condition and prevent further injury," he said.

The Champions League begins on October 8 and will culminate on October 23.

De Villiers is the second South African player to be ruled out of the Champions League after skipper Graeme Smith , nursing a leg injury, pulled out of the Cape Cobras squad for the $2.4 million event to ensure that he is fit for England's tour of South Africa next month.

De Villiers was the top run-getter for Daredevils in the IPL-II in South Africa.

"I am obviously disappointed to miss the Champions League. But I wish the Daredevils all the best for the tournament," de Villiers said.

Paul Collingwood may not be available for Delhi Daredevils in the inaugural Champions League Twenty20 starting October 8 as the England batsman has picked up a buttock injury in the ongoing Champions Trophy.

England coach Andy Flower said Collingwood will undergo a scan on the muscle injury that he sustained during the semifinal loss to Australia when he returns to England from South Africa.

"We have a contract with the IPL about making our players available, however Collingwood has picked up a little niggle in his buttock. He's going back to England with us and will have a scan. A proper assessment and decision will be made," said Flower.

"It's a genuine injury. We don't know how bad it is but he definitely did something when he played one of his first pull shots on Friday against Australia.

Sussex To Rest Matt Prior for Champions League

After announcing their initial 20-man squad for the inaugural Champions League Twenty20 competition, Sussex CCC has been continuing its dialogue with the ECB over the availability of the England players.

The Club can confirm that Matt Prior will not be travelling with the squad after deciding that it would be in his best interest to rest.

Prior, who has an intensely busy period of international cricket ahead of him, will be representing England in the ICC Champions Trophy, which takes place in South Africa at the end of September, followed by England’s tour to South Africa between November 2009 and January 2010.

Mark Robinson, Sussex CCC Professional Cricket Manager, said: “I’ve had a lot of talks with Matty about what is best for him. He obviously is desperate to help his county do well in what is a major competition and he’s also aware of the other potential avenues that could be opened up by him doing well as an individual in India, such as the Indian Premier League."

"When talking with him, the one thing that kept coming out was his desire to be as fit and as fresh to represent his country. As this was his only rest period, it was the right thing to do and we all at Sussex must respect Matt’s dream to continue his England ambitions.”

The Sharks boast a wealth of match-winning stars including Dwayne Smith, Luke Wright, Michael Yardy and Yasir Arafat to name a few.

Dwayne Smith will be available despite being able to represent both Sussex Sharks and Deccan Chargers. The selection was confirmed when Deccan Chargers made the decision to leave Dwayne out of their final 15-man squad.

Luke Wright, who has also been included in the One Day Squads for the NatWest Series and Champions Trophy, will travel with Sussex to the Champions League Twenty20 competition.
