CRF asks "Where's the Snow??"

The Children’s Rehabilitation Foundation regretfully announces that due to uncooperative winter weather, the 2012 Ride for Rehab has been cancelled for this year.
With such a lack of snow in Biwabik, Minnesota, it just wasn’t possible to hold a proper snowmobile event. We greatly appreciate the support of our sponsors and all the registered riders who committed to attending the event.
The Foundation is offering registered riders the opportunity to put their 2012 registration fee they have already paid toward the 2013 Ride. The plan is to go to Giant’s Ridge next year and do the ride we were not be able to do this year.
Everyone who supported a rider by making a pledge will receive a full tax receipt for their donation (if they haven’t already).
In lieu of the Ride, the Foundation will be hosting a gathering for all registered riders and spouses in mid-March. More details will be emailed to riders as soon as possible. At this event, we will draw for the snowmobile. We encourage riders to continue collecting pledges and hand them in to CRF by February 29th. Remember, for every $250 riders collect, up to $1000, they receive one entry into a draw for a 2012 sled courtesy of Enns Brothers Powersports. After $1000, riders receive 2 entries for every $250 raised.
The Foundation sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause. We were very much looking forward to Ride for Rehab and spending time with all the wonderful participants, who have become friends over the years. However, we are excited to visit with you at the gathering in March.
If you have any questions about Ride, please contact Erin Kangas, Development Officer at erin@crf.mb.ca.

CRF receives first $50,000 from Manitoba Lotteries employee Charity of Choice campaign

Board members from Manitoba Lotteries’ employee program, ECHO (Employees Caring by Helping Others), presented CRF with the first 2011/12 ECHO Charity of Choice cheque for $50,000.
This is the second time Manitoba Lotteries’ employees selected CRF as their Charity of Choice, supporting and improving through volunteerism the communities in which all employees live and work.
On December 14th, the ECHO board members toured the Rehabilitation Centre for Children, and witnessed first-hand the work being done – from Prosthetics and Orthotics, to the Family Resource Centre to the Specialized Communication Resources for Children department - to help children with disabilities be more independent and mobile.
ECHO is an employee-driven charitable giving program run by a volunteer board of employees. With the help of 600+ employee volunteers and their families, they are currently raising $100,000 for CRF through community volunteering and donations.
Last year, thanks to ECHO, CRF purchased 29 pieces of individual children’s equipment. Under the current campaign, the ECHO grant will fund Summer Day Camp, Cooking Clubs and youth recreation programs for children with disabilities and special needs at the Rehabilitation Centre for Children.

Dufresne donates $10,000 to CRF as part of $1 Million Charity Challenge

Shelters for abused women, sports programs for less fortunate children and treatment services for cancer patients are some of the charitable programs that will benefit from Dufresne’s $1 Million Charity Challenge - including the Children's Rehabilitation Foundation.
As part of the year-long celebration of Dufresne’s 25th anniversary, Dufresne is awarding $500,000 in grants to 51 charities, including forty-three charitable organizations in Manitoba and eight non-profits in Ontario. Grant amounts range from $5,000 to $30,000 each. These non-profit recipients, who focus on women, children and health programs, will then raise an equivalent amount to equal a total of $1 million.

Mark Dufresne, CEO of The Dufresne Group remarked, “We are all enriched by our community experiences and that is why we at Dufresne believe in recognizing and supporting the quality of life within the communities where we live, work and play.”

The charities will receive their award presentations at a special event in the coming weeks.
Two senior managers from Dufresne visited the Rehabilitation Centre for Children on December 8th for a tour of the facilities. The Foundation's Executive Director Christine Schollenberg enjoyed the opportunity to showcase the innovation taking place at the facility, and to thank Dufresne in person for their generosity and support.

A list of all the recipients is available at www.dufresne.ca

About The Dufresne Group:

In addition, Dufresne has achieved Platinum Status in the club, a recognition reserved for those outstanding companies who have sustained a standard of excellence and leadership in all areas of their business practices and have qualified in the award program for at least six consecutive years.

Winnipeg Jets visit Rehab Centre for Children

27 lucky children (who are clients of the Rehabilitation Centre for Children) had the opportunity to meet members of the Winnipeg Jets hockey club last Wednesday
The children showed their obvious excitement as Pavalec, Jaffrey, Kane, Byfuglien and 9 other team members strolled into our Family Resource Room to greet the kids, carrying souvenirs for everyone.
Many photo were taken, and autographs signed by the players.
The children could barely contain their enthusiasm for Winnipeg's newest "Rock Stars".
Many thanks to the Winnipeg Jets hockey club for creating an amazing experience for the children!

Children's Rehab Foundation receives $250,000 grant from President's Choice Children's Charity

On November 9th, President’s Choice® Children’s Charity presented a $250,000 donation to the Children’s Rehabilitation Foundation - the largest grant ever given by the Charity to an organization with a focus on disabilities and special needs. These funds will be used for equipment and programs that are essential for Manitoba children and youth who live with disabilities and special needs.
“President’s Choice® Children’s Charity is delighted to have assisted children and families in Manitoba through individual grants since 2004,” said Peggy Hornell, senior director, Community Investment, Loblaw Companies Limited. “With the current donation for equipment and specialized programs at the Children’s Rehabilitation Foundation, we hope to reach many more children from across Manitoba, with the aim of providing these young people with a renewed sense of dignity and independence in their daily lives.”
“The Children’s Rehabilitation Foundation shares a common goal with President’s Choice® Children’s Charity in working to remove obstacles that make everyday living difficult for children with developmental or physical challenges,” said Christine Schollenberg, executive director, Children’s Rehabilitation Foundation. “We greatly appreciate the Charity’s generous support as an important step in meeting this goal.”
President’s Choice® Children’s Charity is dedicated to helping children who are physically or developmentally challenged. Families can receive individual grants of up to $20,000 to assist with the costs of equipment, home accessibility, respite care, developmental and physical therapy and accessible vehicles. Families who are interested in receiving direct financial assistance can learn more at www.pc.ca/charity.
