LABRIOLA RESPONDS TO MALLOY’S ABYSMAL APPROVAL RATING

HARTFORD—Connecticut Republican Party Chairman Jerry Labriola, Jr. released the following statement today in response to this morning’s Quinnipiac Poll.

“This morning’s poll shows that the voters of Connecticut have had enough of the failed economic policies of Dan Malloy,” said Labriola. “Governor Malloy’s ‘solution’ to our economic problems has been record breaking tax increases and out of control government spending which has produced a $141.9 million hole in the state budget.”

“Governor Malloy and the Democrat-controlled legislature made a choice to serve the special interests and union bosses instead of the hardworking families of Connecticut. Connecticut deserves and—as today’s poll shows—wants better.”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Contact: Zak Sanders

HARTFORD—Connecticut Republican Party Chairman Jerry Labriola, Jr. made the following statement this morning on that the state Office of Policy and Management estimated on Friday that the state will end the year with a $141.9 million deficit, about $80 million worse than projected last month:

“On Friday, OPM Secretary Benjamin Barnes said of the deficit, ‘It’s bad,’ and that the Malloy budget will end the year ‘with a significant deficit.’

“Month after month, Governor Malloy has insisted that his ‘honest, balanced budget’ would finish the year in the black, despite monthly estimates to the contrary by the Office of Fiscal Analysis, the Comptroller, the consensus revenue estimates and now the governor’s own budget chief.

“For months, these fiscal experts have been trying to point out that the Emperor’s budget is indeed scantily clad. Despite the biggest tax hike in state history, the Governor’s and the legislative Democrats’ insatiable appetite for spending has driven Connecticut yet again into a deep budget hole.

“It is certainly disappointing that Barnes reports there also are NO plans to make additional state agency spending cuts. It seems the state is destined to ‘solve’ the deficit issue by what has now become for the Democrats ‘the old-fashioned way’ – with more taxes and more borrowing.”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 17, 2012

Contact: Zak Sanders
zsanders@ctgop.org

HARTFORD – Connecticut Republican Party Chairman Jerry Labriola, Jr. released the following statement this morning in regards to “Tax Day.”

“On this Tax Day, we are reminded of the most crucial difference between our two parties. Republicans believe Connecticut families know best when it comes to how they should spend their money, but President Obama, Governor Malloy and Democrats believe government knows best. This fundamental disagreement cannot be understated,” said Chairman Labriola.

“In Washington, President Obama’s budget would increase taxes on hardworking American families by $1.9 trillion dollars. Here at home, Dan Malloy pushed through a record setting tax increase that still wasn’t enough to offset his out of control government spending—resulting in a project deficit.

“These out of control taxing and spending policies show what little regard President Obama and Dan Malloy have for our hard earned dollars. It’s time to restore fiscal sanity to Washington and Hartford by electing people who believe that Connecticut families know better than the government when it comes to spending their money.”

Contact: Zak Sanders
zsanders@ctgop.org

HARTFORD – Connecticut Republican Party Chairman Jerry Labriola, Jr. defended Ann Romney this afternoon in response to Obama Adviser and DNC Strategist Hilary Rosen’s attack that Ann Romney “never worked a day in her life”

“Ms. Rosen’s comments are highly insulting—not only to Ann Romney and her family, but to all mothers. Anyone who believes that being a mother isn’t a job of the highest importance and difficulty is simply out of touch with reality,” said Labriola.

Ann Romney is scheduled to be the keynote speaker at the Connecticut Republican Party’s annual Prescott Bush Awards Dinner on April 23rd in Stamford, CT.

“Ann Romney raised five boys and volunteers her time to multiple charities despite suffering from Multiple Sclerosis. Contrary to Ms. Rosen’s comments, I believe that Ann Romney understands better than most the meaning of ‘hard work,’” added Labriola.

“I’m excited and honored to have Ann Romney keynoting the 2012 Prescott Bush Awards Dinner. Her story is one of inspiring achievement and dedication,” State GOP Chair Jerry Labriola said. “Despite experiencing some very difficult challenges, Mrs. Romney has persevered and in so doing, she has served as an example to Americans everywhere.”

The 34th Annual Prescott Bush Awards Dinner will take place Monday, April 23rd from 6:00 to 9:00pm at the Stamford Marriott Hotel.

###

BACKGROUND ON ANN ROMNEY:

As First Lady of Massachusetts, Ann Romney served as the governor’s liaison for federal faith-based initiatives. She was involved in a number of children’s charities, including Operation Kids, and was an active participant in her husband’s 2008 presidential run, where she became the most visible of all the Republican candidates’ wives in campaigning. She has continued campaigning on her husband’s behalf during his 2012 presidential bid.

Also while Massachusetts First Lady, she was active in teenage pregnancy prevention efforts. She has been involved in a number of children’s charities, including being director of the inner city-oriented Best Friends. She worked extensively with the Ten Point Coalition in Boston and with other groups that promoted better safety and opportunities for urban youths. She was given the 2006 Lifetime Achievement Award from Salt Lake City-based Operation Kids. She has also served as a board member for the United Way of America and helped found United Way Faith and Action.

Ann was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1998 and has credited a mixture of mainstream and alternative treatments with giving her a lifestyle mostly without limitations. In one of those activities, equestrianism, she has consequently received recognition as an adult amateur at the national level and has competed professionally in Grand Prix as well. In 2008, she was also diagnosed with a non-invasive type of breast cancer. She underwent a lumpectomy in December of the same year and has since been cancer-free.
