Brilliant Big Lottery award lights up Earlsdon Street!

BEAUTIFUL new festive Christmas lights have lit up and magically transformed Earlsdon Street after a successful Big Lottery award by local traders.ÂÂ

The award for £4,000 was announced today by Earlsdon Traders Association who have been working very hard all year to revitalise the shopping street by organising events and improve the shopping experience for their local community.

Marcus Kendall, Chair of the Earlsdon Traders Association said, "It's been a real race against time to get the award and now we are delighted that they look so brilliant! The money arrived just in time for Christmas.

We are continuing to raise funds for even more lights through the sale of attractive Christmas cards featuring historic schemes of Earlsdon and these are available at just £5 for pack from many shops in the street."

Meeting 7th November 2009 Coventry :- "Digital advances" (40 attendees)

This well-attended meeting was introduced by the Society's chairman, Dr. Geoff Ogram,
with an announcement of next year's annual convention by its organiser, Brian Padgett.

The meeting was in five parts, mainly due to the rapid advancement of digital technology
in the world of stereo photography and videography. The first half comprised four 'parts' as follows:

1. Phil Palmer gave a "Big Dummies Guide" to stereoscopy on the internet. Using a live connection via a mobile 'dongle', he demonstrated sites covering: UK societies, social networking groups, various software for producing and viewing stereo pairs and video, good sites to shop!, galleries of other works and finally, manufacturers of products relating to three-dimensional images.

2. Brian Temple showed a fraction of his 3D collectibles; these were mostly books on the subjects of world travel, each with stereo photographs and either a built-in or supplied viewer. These may indeed become a rare sight in the not-too-distant future.

Jennifer White of Earlsdon prepares for transplant

JENNIFER White is being given a lifeline today.

The 45-year-old, of Earlsdon, was yesterday preparing to undergo a life-saving kidney transplant operation thanks to her brother Clive Slater.

Clive, aged 48, has flown to the city from his home in Ireland to give his younger sister the gift of life she desperately needed.

Telegraph readers have been following her story as she counted down to the big day, documenting her daily struggles with chronic renal failure.

They featured her constant battle with tiredness, one of the side-effects of her condition, but her determination to remain upbeat came through her entry for each day.

Speaking from her hospital bed, Jennifer said: "I feel perky and positive.

"I've known about this day for a year, so I've had time to prepare, although it feels really surreal that it's about to happen."

Thanks to her brother's generosity, Jennifer knew the date of her transplant operation, but thousands of people across the country don't have that luxury.

Jennifer has received two kidney transplants in the past after she was diagnosed with lupus.

The first took place in 1994, but only lasted two weeks.

The second was in 1999 and gave her nearly 10 years of "normal" life before it failed and it was back to square one again.

In between waiting for both kidneys, she endured a demanding course of dialysis to rid her blood of harmful toxins.

Determined she wouldn't go through dialysis again, her brother Clive offered to be a live donor.
