Australian property giant Goodman wants to build 10 business units and 68 homes on the 100-acre site, but people living nearby are objecting because of fears over noise, traffic regulation, visual shielding, street parking and access.

Situated on the North Side of the City is the suburb of Radford. The busy Jubilee Crescent is in the heart of Radford. Jubilee Crescent was named to commemorate the then forthcoming silver jubilee of King George V in 1935.

It was here, in a converted burnt-out cotton mill in Draper's Field that the Great Horseless Carriage Company and the Daimler Company produced the first English-built cars in 1897.

It remained a scattered agricultural district dotted with fine gentlemen's houses until after the First World War; then the city burst upon it.

Residents included the watchmaker John Rotherham, then one of the city's biggest employers, and William Hillman, founder of the Hillman and Herbert Cycle Company, later the Hillman Motor Car Company.

Descending from the relative heights of Corley overlooking the city, the brooks are now buried along most of their length; held under the built-up area by culverts.

The structure, bearing the name Longford Bridge, marks the site of the old Long Ford through which pedestrians and vehicles had to pass on their journey to and from Coventry.

The name would indicate that that the settlement was particularly noteworthy and that when the name originated the surrounding area was not populated.
