St Lukes Church Holbrooks are having an open weekend from 10-12th Sep 2010. This will be an event which celebrates the life of the local community and also the church.

There will be displays, exhibitions and talks throughout the weekend.

The event will also include the following:

> Asian weddings
> Baptisms
> Church vestments (including many rare examples

Refreshensts will be held throught the weekend. We are open from 10am-4pm each day. Entry is free.

Saint Luke's Church holds a coffee morning every Friday in their Parish Centre between 9.00 and 11.30 a.m.

Real coffee, tea, hot chocolate, toast, cakes and biscuits are served free of charge.

Everyone is welcome to drop in and join us.

A Holiday Club for 5 - 11 year olds, on the 23rd of August 2010 to the 27th August 2010, from 10am until 12pm (noon). Entry £5.

Mr C. Leslie Warner, aged 87 of Scots Lane, is to be honoured during a service at Brownshill Green United Reformed Church on 16 08 09, after completing 70 years as a lay preacher in the city and surrounding district.

He took his first service on 13th August 1939 at Radford Congregational Church in Villa Road, and has regularly been seen by churches since.

A former infant and junior school teacher, Mr Warner is a local celebrity, known by many in the Coundon area.

He continues to hear children practice their reading in schools and remain active within the Methodist and United Reformed Churches.

Asked what inspires him and encourages him to carry on he simply responded, "It is the good Lord who calls me."

There will be music, displays, games, a craft corner at this free event to celebrate the church's 250th year.

The Reverend Peter Stevenson a United Reformed Church minister in Coventry received his Doctorate degree from Princeton Theological Seminary, Princeton, New Jersey, USA on 23rd May 2009.

Peter began this course in 2004, which included workshops at Westminster College Cambridge in August of that year and workshops in America in June 2005 and 2006.

Warwickshire Youth Waits (the only youth waits group performing at present) are performing a concert at 7.30pm on 23rd May 2009 at Holyhead Road United Reformed Church, led by their director Alison Kinder.

Services are held every Sunday at 10.30am at the Holyhead Road United Reformed Church.

Fiona, who is the widow of TV entertainer Roy Castle, is patron of the charity, which supports hundreds of children in some of the poorest parts of the world.

She will be speaking at a meeting at St Columba's United Reformed Church, in St Columba's Close, Radford, on Saturday, May 16, at 3pm.

Roberta Hall, of St Columba's Church said: "We know Fiona is a great speaker, with some amazing stories to tell, and we would like to invite as many people as possible to join us for what we are sure will be a fascinating afternoon."

Entrance is 50p for adults, 25p for children and bacon butties will cost £1.25.

Tea and coffee is free and there will be a raffle and a bring and buy sale.

The project, run by artist Victoria Reed, included a number of workshops in the city which focused on creating art based on the theme of hope.

Those taking part included the Coventry 60th Scouts, Girls Brigade, Holyhead Road URC toddler group and the Hillfields-based Kairos women's group.
