The fictional world of CSI and Sherlock Holmes make police work on major crime scenes look glamorous and exciting. In reality, criminal investigations require meticulous attention to process, detail, and consistent evidentiary and information management. It is driven by precise methodology and painstaking project management techniques. It is fascinating but rarely glamorous - and the mind of the project manager is perfectly suited for this work. Project Management has revolutionized criminal investigation and prosecution, providing structure, best practices and case management systems. Using an international terrorism case as a reference point, this presentation will examine the impact and intersection of project management with major crime police investigations and prosecutions. With both a senior police officer and former Justice Department lawyer (and PMP) presenting, we will examine how major case management works in policing and the legal profession. Clear communication can make the difference between a pleasant and a toxic environment, and between disgruntled and productive people. Conflict is contagious and can have a powerful negative impact on productivity and profitability, while difficult people can negatively impact morale, job satisfaction, and relationships with coworkers and clients. As Project Managers, you may be reporting to different bosses, dealing with multiple teams and different functional managers, or even arrogant stakeholders. You may also be responsible for delivering certain results from different groups, yet not have full authority over the people you're working with. That situation is ripe for conflict and people becoming difficult. In this interactive training we will show you what steps to take to defuse conflict before it gets out of hand, how to turn destructive conflict into constructive conflict, and transform difficult project team members into happy team members. Resilience on Projects. Resilience is often used as a quality to describe someone’s ability to bounce back from a catastrophe, to properly manage stress and adversity. Think about it, though, and dealing with stress and adversity is a valuable characteristic not only for people, but for teams, projects and organizations as well. In this presentation, Jim starts by leveraging the audience’s reflections on their own project experiences to identify the truly valuable areas to focus on to become more resilient in the workplace, at all levels. He shows that there are myriad practices that can be done consciously to improve resilience, and addresses some of the more common barriers to leveraging these practices. By investing in resilience from the ground up - and from the top down - an organization not only becomes stronger at managing adversity and stress, but also shines more brightly in good times, and those good times become more common. Resilience in the workplace becomes a true differentiator!
